My family and I came here on a Friday and had a fantastic time! Pros: - About a 50-minute drive (35 minutes without traffic) from Bed-Stuy, and found street parking right outside the entrance. - Easy check-in and seamless locker experience similar to Sojo Spa, where you put your shoes and clothes in separate lockers. They provide a bathrobe, a hand towel, and slippers. No outside flip flops allowed. When you are ready to shower, you can ask for larger shower towels. - Large, spacious, and clean facility with Greek-esque blue and white architectural details. We enjoyed the open layout with the different heated pools, the vast array of strong jets, and the hot tubs. All the jet buttons worked, and the jets turned on right away. We loved the large Himalayan Salt sauna, which was also the hottest. Overall it wasn't crowded at all! - My daughter loved the outdoor pool with the overhead waterfall, the indoor pool right by the bar, the playhouses in the relaxation area, and the kids' playroom. - The hydrotherapy pools, cold baths, and steam room in the changing areas/locker rooms were clean and well-maintained. - The Korean food is delicious! The Korean Beef Stew was some of the best we've had in a while. - Kids allowed (all ages accepted!), and my daughter had a blast! Cons: - Some of the rooms, such as the relaxation room at the top, could use an upgrade. - The co-ed outdoor dry sauna needs to be much hotter. Wish they had a co-ed steamroom like at AIRE Ancient Baths. - Some of the shower heads in the sitting shower area were weak and needed fixing. - The foosball table for kids was missing the ball, and needed extras around. - $13 ramen was the 85-cent Paldo Gomtang Korean Beef Flavored Instant Noodle Soup you can get at H-Mart. I've been a loyal Spa Castle customer from day one, even during the times they closed for renovations. I've always supported this place and truly wanted it to continue being great. Last Wednesday, we visited from around 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM (they close at 9:30 PM), so we were mindful not to rush them or their closing shift. Overall, the spa experience itself was good. The facilities were fine, and the food was absolutely chef's kiss as always -- that part never disappoints. I also understand that prices have gone up, and while Spa Castle is now priced similarly to SoJo Spa, I didn't mind paying more since everything else in life has also gone up. However, the experience was completely ruined at the very end. When we were about to leave, we realized there were no hair dryers at all -- not even one. Yes, you read that right: a spa with NO hair dryers. I asked the three ladies at the front desk if there were any hair dryers available, and they told me, "We don't have any. Customers steal them." I was shocked. That is not the customer's responsibility -- it's the spa's responsibility to manage and replace basic amenities. A hair dryer is a basic service at any spa, especially in winter, when it's cold outside and people cannot walk out with wet hair. When we went to check out, a male and a female staff member were at the counter. The man asked how our experience was, and I honestly said everything was fine except for the fact that there were no hair dryers, which was very disappointing. He looked at the female staff member, and she said, "We do have one hair dryer. Did you ask them?" I told her yes -- we asked twice, and three employees told us there were none. Instead of apologizing or trying to help, her tone was rude and dismissive. There was no effort to resolve the issue or even acknowledge how uncomfortable and unfair that situation was. No spa should send guests out into the cold with wet hair after they paid full price for the experience. Sadly, the lack of basic amenities and the unprofessional attitude at the front desk completely ruined what could have been a great visit. I was very disappointed, especially as someone who has supported Spa Castle for years. At this point, I would rather go to King Spa or SoJo Spa, where customer service and basic spa standards are taken seriously. I want to preface this by saying that I came here with my mom on Mother's Day so my hope is that this place is better on less busy days. It was so crowded that none of the hydrotherapy massages were open. There was a wait for everything from the pools to the saunas. Once i finally got a place at a hydrotherapy massage the jets were so strong it nearly blew me out of the water quite literally. Think a shiatsu massage but with water pounding your back. I mean if that's what you are looking for then power to you. To be fair some of the other hydrotherapy seats were gentler. When I saw that this place would be kid friendly I really underestimated just how many kids would be there. It felt like a water park with hot water. As if water parks could get any more disgusting! In keeping with its water park motif, the floors were so dirty with cups and bandaids littering the area around the pool. They didn't have enough slippers so they just gave me one that was 2 sizes too small. I guess it didn't matter anyway because someone ended up stealing my slippers. Plus there was hair floating around in the pool. The saunas were okay but so crowded and did not seem very clean. The food was mediocre. I ordered a dolsot bibimbap and they used the wrong type of rice which was undercooked and they barely gave you any meat. I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1 because my mom and I did not let this ruin our day. We had a good laugh about it afterwards and it certainly was a memorable Mother's Day. I always heard bad stories about this location, so I never tried it, but my friend was like she never experienced bad things there and when she goes it usually during the week when there's not a lot of people and that's what we did and we were able to enjoy every part of the location. Everybody was nice and polite. Everybody was friendly. The drinks were good. The food was good. The ambience was good. Everything about it was good. We were there from morning to close that's how much fun and comfortable. We were being there and relaxed. I will definitely will be going again. I had an AMAZING 70 min scrub, by Lesly , she scrubs head to toes, is thorough, and checked throighout the scrub , too hard, soft, to make certain I would have a pleasant experience, She lathered me up with lots of soap bubbles, and after each step , washed with warm, water. She massaged me with lotion , hair wash m cranial massage, and wrapped entire body wrapped in gold leaf, which is used for its luxurious appearance and skin benefits. It is applied after exfoliation for enhanced absorption, with warm towels on top of the foil!! Face was wrapped in cucumber, and After my scrub, bubbles, lotion, foil, massage and exceptional pampering, Lesly , instructed me to wash only with water then dry sauna to have the lotion absorb !! This is my first time at Spa Castle so I can't comment on the facility and changes pre renovation. We decided to take advantage of the spa on veterans day, which was a Monday since the weather was fairly warm for fall. I was dreading to see the place packed with kids since school was out, but was pleasantly surprised. The spa was fairly empty and had so many open spaces to eat, sit, and lounge. The locker room was clean and spacious. They provided 2 towels and a robe to be returned unless you want to pay a $35 fee. I started my day exploring all the amenities from top to bottom and was impressed by the nice decor and variety of hydrotherapy jets in the pools. The outdoor deck had 2 large outdoor pools, 2 hot tubs and a dry sauna in the middle. I enjoyed trying all the massage jets and soaking in the hot tub. The main floor had about 5 dry saunas but the most impressive one was the Himalayan salt sauna. It had lit pink walls and tall mirror ceilings, perfect for selfies. It also felt like the warmest room out of the bunch. Other sauna offerings were jade, color therapy, ice, gold, Halotherapy, and infrared. Though we did not eat at Spa Castle, there were two dining options and their prices were not terrible. I think the new admission prices ($110 for adult weekends) have reduced the amount of spa goers, keeping the place clean and spacious. I spent about 6 hours here and could have stayed longer. It was truly a relaxing and therapeutic experience that I recommend. My one complaint is the price of the Korean body scrub for $95, which is almost the price of admission. read more

I finally returned to Spa Castle after 16 year and it was a fantastic experience. I don't quite remember much from my last visit, I distinctly recall having a great time, and this visit didn't disappoint. We arrived on a Saturday at 10:30 AM, which is pretty soon after their 10am opening, and were pleasantly surprised to find it not crowded at all. I mainly came to test the place before planning a girls spa day for December. Therefore we decided to take full advantage of the facilities trying everything... every floor, every sauna room, steam room, relaxing chairs, pools etc. Overall, we loved the experience, although we did notice that only one sauna was truly hot; the others could have been warmer. I thoroughly enjoyed the steam room in the bath area - you really break a sweat there. I also wanted to address some of the reviews I'd read before going: Contrary to what some ppl claimed, we found that the spa provided everything we needed: robes, towels, slippers, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion. I can't believe I paid attention to these reviews and packed unnecessary items like shampoo, conditioner, and slippers and body lotion. And the food was priced FAIRLY. What do guy guys want? A dollar tree meal Did they even go to the lookout floor (level 4) ... we found it to be great, with prices for food that felt appropriate for a spa setting. Once upon a time in the halcyon days of Spa Castle (read: maybe 2008), this sprawling complex might have been the height of accessible indulgence. But now it's more like a cautionary tale about the perils of under-maintenance and over regulation. Spa Castle, while cheaper than other spas, feels like a cross between a budget hotel, public pool with an overzealous hall monitor. There are indeed so many possibilities in the space. Saunas of various temperatures and different salt make up galore, each one a sanctuary or sweaty purgatory, depending on your heat tolerance and the hygiene habits of your fellow bathers. The outdoor pool deck is actually quite nice, and maybe makes this place still worth a visit. Once inside, I think the reality of this place sets in. I've never been to a spa that doesn't provide towel service. I was also basically playing a game of "the floor is lava," except instead of lava the floor is a petri dish of microbial horrors. Absolutely would not recommend walking around barefoot. Some spas feel clean enough to do that, this place does not. There are signs posted everywhere warning against PDA, which makes me question what goes on here. They also cap each person to 1 drink at a time, a strictly enforced rule that gets annoying when you want to buy multiple drinks at once for multiple people in your group, but each person has to go to the counter to get their own. Again, I'm wondering what kind of antics go on here for them to have these warnings plastered on every wall. It's $85 per person on weekdays and $110 per person on weekends-- I'd rather just spend a little more for a nicer spa. I suppose in many ways the lower prices means they're democratizing luxury and everyone deserves a spa day. But... I would brave the waters elsewhere. read more

After hearing and seeing Spa Castle went through new renovations, I had to check it out. I actually never experienced it before the renovations, but I think I got a glimpse of it at the check-in area. But past that, everything seemed clean and sleek. Especially outside, the construction was heavily inspired by Greece, and made everything feel so serene and grand, with plenty of hydrotherapy amenities. There were quite a number of lifeguards around for the small space. Not very relaxing in that sense. I personally loved the sauna rooms here more. They offer color therapy and infrared saunas, which I haven't seen elsewhere. The food is the worst spa food I've tried. There isn't enough variety too. The Humming Bird smoothie though, got me wanting to make it for my own from how delicious it was. It's a shame the food and game rentals closes shop way earlier than their actual 9:30 (really 9PM) closing time. Don't expect much coming here past 6PM. The service was also pretty dreadful. Make sure to check Groupon for admission deals! Ok, after years of wanting to try this place out, I MADE IT! Firstly, I took an uber here from the train. Spa Castle no longer provides the shuttle to Main St. There seemed to be some parking around the area, but only street parking so I suggest getting in early. As soon as I turned the corner, there was a line, but not out of the door so I was thankful. SN: I just travelled an 1hr and 1/2 from Brooklyn to get here, so nothing was turning me away. The line took around 15 minutes. $50 for weekdays and there is no time limit. I was given (1) tiny little hand towel and a watch. I went to the lockers, which sync with the watchs given. The watch number is your locker number. Pretty easy to use once you find your number. Most people have flip flops, so I would suggest that.(It really should be no shoes all together but it makes sense to have flip flops, the place has many floors). By the lockers, was the first pool room I saw. I honestly didn't even notice it was nude only. Like 6/7 different types of pools ranging from hot to cold. I was in there for awhile but then I was asked to leave because I was not nude. I told them I may come back later. Around the corner was a sauna, but way too hot for my liking. I popped my head in and out. I walked up the 2nd floor, which I immediately skipped because I wanted to see the rooftop! The 3rd floor has 3 sections outside, the kiddie zone and 2 outside pool areas with jets, showers and seats. Inside has two sides separated by a snack/food bar. Most people were getting ice cream or frozen drinks. The rooftop was nice, and is maybe on a school day it would of been more relaxing. A lot of families with their kids, kids splashing all over the place like its a water park. I also felt is wasn't that hygienic after awhile. Some jets worked and some did not. I was pretty much 50/50. I stayed up there for about an hr and a half. Moving around trying to stay in the shape when possible. After, I went back down to the 2nd second floor. This floor had a food shop. People were sitting around eating. On the side is mineral saunas and infrared red light area. Overall, It was worth the $50 dollar. 0-10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! Have not been to this place will not call it a spa in years. I don't know when this place became the family fun day of resort spas but it's giving low budget family staycation vibes. I'll start with the entrance where the security at the front desk ask to check your purse. At the check in they ask if you want to purchase an alcohol drink package? I found that odd and declined. We walk into the ladies locker room and it's resembles a gym locker. Lockers were assigned with everyone crammed on top of each other. There was plenty of space but everyone seemed to be piled up in the same area like it was the public pool!Changing area was repainted and brighter than I remembered. Some renovations done. But when I went to change I saw several children in the ladies locker room. Ages ranging from 3-10! Both girls and boys. I was immediately vexed by that. Did not come to hear kids on my day of relaxation. Love kids , have three of my own but not at a spa. And definitely not in the area where other women are completely naked! The wet area cold and hot temperatures were definitely off and did not have the accurate temperature. Best part was the steam room so far. Many have no spa etiquette. There was loud talking or loud whispers. Nothing relaxing about that. Decided to tour the rest of the facility. Upstairs where the food was they were selling hotdogs, hamburgers , fries ,fried wings , frozen pizza cakes ,cookies , chips, old prep packages fruit salads. Basically junk food. Not a fresh health juice or fresh vegan options in sight. I passed on the school cafeteria junk and moved on to the sauna. Someone had left over drinks that had been left by people for quite some time . No one came to clean up the area. Some of the rooms people walked in just talking loud as if they were in the park! Several couples had infants with them , yes in the sauna areas... smh Had the nice conversation with a gentleman that told my daughter and me about a child in the mens locker making comments out loud and pointing to another man's private parts. Which opens the door to very questionable behavior with some of the adults in this place. The place opens up a whole can of unsavory activities. He also warned us about the outside pool. He said he went up there and it was like a daycare center! Kids everywhere and some were unattended. So we went up there somewhat prepared. And it was a hot mess. Half eaten franks and pork sausages all over the seating area. Exposed left out on tables. Wet towels and robes on the chairs so there was no place to sit. Hot tubes well over the capacity. Drinks cups all over the place. And yes there was a full bar selling alcohol. A $45 drink package and a smoking section to boot! Don't know what was being smoked but I was ready to go by this time. We were warned but didn't expect that. Figured I'll just spend 30 minutes in the steam room and shower and get the hell outta there. But that never happened because three little naked girls ran back and forth yelling jumping from tub to tub in the wet area. No parents in sight. No staff to ask them to conduct themselves properly. I was waiting for someone to slip and fall and bust their head to the white meat. Running and hollering like they were on the playground. So I went to take a shower and get the bell out of there. Over head another woman yelling at kids . Even told one with special needs" PUT YOUR HAND DOWN BEFORE I BREAK IT OFF!" I had enough by this point. A young lady that was seat upstairs walked up to my daughter and I and said "I'm fucked up" she wasn't belligerent. But could not get her dress back on. She kept asking my daughter "you good, you good." Clearly she purchased the drink package. I was going to purchase one of the new cute little robes they gave us. Until the clerk tried to give me one they had clearly just laundered...For $35 nonetheless, laughed and said never mind. If you looking to waste $130 for these type of places have it. I will remember the days of years and a cute lite spa, but this place will never see me or my money ever again! 0 out 10 I would never recommend!!! read more

Spa castle has been my "easy" spa to visit from my first visit to my most recent it's gone through some good changes. Usually go for the any day pass since it works better for us, I had family visiting early during the year & didn't realize the place was going thought some renovations & the outside pool was closed so we were left with the inside pool which was only not bad because it wasn't crowded. Flash forward to my most recent visit & the main renovations seem to be done u can certainly see the difference, new colors, they fixed all jets in outside pool the outside area has a bit of Santorini vibe because of the colors which is nice. Great that they finally fixed this area up , they have plenty of sit down areas, new area I noticed is the penthouse area nice views outside, nice calm area to relax in. Drinks prices are unfortunately pretty ridiculous but seem normal these days at $11-22 for drinks. Snack foods is more reasonable for $3-8 for basic, nachos, hot dogs, ice cream etc. Food options are not bad we tried Turkey burgers & Chicken fingers along w a Mozzarella salad it was good also tried the Chicken wings & Chicken Dumplings also not bad. U can see they put some work into the renovations, lockers room are nice & bright , happy they are back to providing robes, slippers & towels let's face it as they should for what u pay. They seem to have more life guards & security which is good & I've notice much less rowdy crowds if any really. Not a big fan of kids being allowed as I personally don't think it's a kid type environment they should make some sort of kid free / kid only days. Price wise finding a sale or groupon helps weekdays are $85 while wknds go for $110 not terrible only because u can basically be here all day should u choose to be. Went on Thursday 12/27, surprisingly it wasn't crowded. I have been to spa castle few times before renovation, this was my first time after they reopened. Purchased I believe $55 Groupon and honestly it is what is worth. I wouldn't pay the full price. The place was clean and it is nicely renovated. However, saunas are absolutely not hot enough, especially the one in the separate nude (or what used to be nude) area. It literally wasn't hot at all, which I find quite odd and disappointing. Outside pools were great and warm enough for a very cold day. They don't have the buffet anymore so we ate upstairs in the "Korean " restaurant. It took a while for the food to be ready, they had only two women making the food. Staff is entirely Hispanic and many don't speak English at all. Kids screaming and running around so forget about the spa zen environment. Towels are given out once and if you want a dry towel they will charge you! 20%+ tips were added automatically to every drink, food, spa etc without being told. My massage was done by a person literally learning on me, I felt it was his first time too and that cost me $168 for 30 min ....it said 50 but it was 30 and they take advantage of you because there are no clocks anywhere ! Plain and simple this place is no longer a Korean spa. It's just a facility with some outdoor pool areas & saunas. I've been frequenting this establishment since 2012 and have only seen it go downhill. I don't know if it's because of COVID or if they finally just completed the fall from grace they started years ago but I'm done and here's why: They have stripped the place of everything that wasn't bolted down: No more valet parking. Park yourself if there's room in their adjacent garage and walk down a steep parking ramp because no stairs or elevator are available. No more towels. No more uniforms so folks aren't wandering around in swimsuits in the lounge areas. No more foot massage room Fewer staff around The salad bar is only on weekends now. On a weekday visit, one of the main outdoor pools was closed for cleaning. I get the need to be clean, especially now, but the staff here seem to think bleaching the hell out of everything is the answer. As a case in point have a look at my swimsuit which they ruined with their high chlorine content. I sat down in one of the water loungers facing outdoors and after being there for 30 min or so looked down to see my entire bathing suit had changed color. That's a perfectly good suit ruined. This used to be a place to come relax with your girls, or family. Now it's a free for all. On my most recent and final visit, a man sat next to me in the jacuzzi area with his flip-flops STILL on. Your shoes in our bathing water? No thanks. Small children with no swim diapers abounded, and children with noodles (as if we were at a public pool) also made an appearance. Other true Korean spas may now charge more but clearly you get what you pay for, and in this case, I was left wishing I could get my $50 back because a trip to Astoria's free pool would have been better. read more

I really wanted to do something different with my daughter so i decided to have a girls day here with her. I actually like the fact that you can bring your kids to this Spa.  The outside of the spa is huge. Looks like it used to be a warehouse. The entry process is pretty easy. You walk up to the counter, the person at the front desk asks for your ID and payment. Its $50 per person. My daughter is 11 so she also paid full price. They give you a wrist band with a number on it.  After paying you go into the 1st locker room and lock up your shoes. You use your wrist band to unlock all lockers. There are no signs showing you where the 2nd locker room is so I asked some of the staff and they pointed me into the right direction.  The locker rooms were clean, pretty spacious and easy to use. We locked up our remaining belongings and headed to the spa area. You have to bring your own towels here. I recommend bringing two, one to come in and out of the pool with and one to dry off with once your leaving the spa.  We ate at one of the food stations. We got pepperoni pizza and a fried chicken sandwich with fries. All of it was pretty good. Later on we did get a Frappuccino and that was good as well. At the bar my daughter had a pina colada and i had a frozen peach Margarita with patron. I loved the drinks. We first visited the pool area. The kids section is still closed. The jacuzzi was open but the water was not hot. The pool was alot warmer then the jacuzzi. Most of the jets inside of the pool are broken so you cant truly enjoy the water massaging jets. Inside by the bar, theres a section where you can sit in the water on tables and have your drink. We sat there for a while and enjoyed the space. The opposite side has a pool with massage seating but they were all broken. The four to the left have water jets spraying at different pressures and the ones to the right of them don't even work.  After the pool we went to the saunas. They are located right next to the food sections. We layed on the infrared tables first. I loved that. There's space for six people to lay and six rows of lights which were all working. The ice sauna was closed. We visited each one of the heated saunas. The most bearable sauna was the Color Therapy room. It was warm and we were able to sit inside of some time. There's small little sections you can sit inside of that are different colors and each color is suppose to provide some sort of support. Some of the saunas were completely unbearable but we still visited each one and spent some time there. The salt sauna has a leak so there's a musty smell. The hot tubs and small pools inside of the locker room are great. I dislike that you have to be completely naked to enter them. I feel like that's completely unnecessary. Swimsuits should be mandatory and no cover up, etc.  I like the ease of making purchases. You scan the band and pay it all at the end upon exiting. I ended up paying about $80 additional for the items we purchased inside. Overall this place is good to try once or twice. It could be so much better IF they made some repairs to the amenities that are broken or leaky. It would also help if someone walked around with a pool net and clean up the hair in the pool. They should also make sure the jacuzzi temperature is hot. This place needs some tlc. I had a good time here with my daughter. I still think its pretty awesome that children are allowed here. It's definitely somewhere i recommend trying once. read more

They close even earlier now. I managed to get here early (before 12p) and stood until close (9:30p). Nothings really changed other than they have lifeguards now (why...). These LG can bring their cellphones into the soak area... where guests are nude... NOT OK! The place is still filthy even though they were closed for "renovations" after covid. The soaking pools have so much grime and crap in them (I pulled what appeared to be a piece of wire from a brillo out the water). No photo because phones are not and should not be allowed. Although they appear to test the water for contaminants they do not appear to drain the waters after closing and actually clean the pools (feels like grainy stuff on the bottoms.) I don't not recommend picking at it because ya might vomit from what you find. This was definitely the last time I'd be here. Cleanliness is the same (gross). Only common areas, such as hallway floors, are constantly cleaned not communal areas, such as saunas and soaking waters. Loudness is the same in quiet areas. From about 5 hrs or more one sauna room (gold) was jam packed with a group bogarting the room and chatting up a storm. People talking with outdoor voices, opening and closing sauna doors never to enter. Some opened the doors to step in and yell for their friends to come in only to step out again (still loudly talking)... Food was not good at all, bland, oily and a disgrace to Korean cuisine. Waters and saunas are not as hot as they were (everything is warm or just comfortable). None of the clocks work which can be a bit dangerous in the wet saunas. Overall I'm just lucky and glad the times I've come were with discounts and I never left with infections. Oh and those ladies know how to give exceptional scrubs and need to be given all the money :) read more

If you're looking for a real Korean scrub this is the place. Not to mention with their renovation it's very clean and nice and a lot of facilities. Only downside is it can get crowded with kids and families. So I recommend going early morning on a weekday to avoid the crowds. read more

What a shame.. I used to go here and enjoy my day. They closed for renovation for a very long time and while it ooks beautiful inside, still nothing works. Certain jets in the pools are out. 100° water is likely 80°. And the outdoor area is still not open. I left after 20 minutes and had to get a refund from Groupon. avoid this place at all costs, unless they get their act together. read more

It is a shame how far downhill this place has gone, and I don't think it will ever be back up to a high quality standard. This used to be my favorite spa. The cleanliness is gone - when I opened my locker it was wet and had a used towel inside. Immediately I noticed that people in the men's spa were allowed to wear their street clothes, and that probably contributes to the dirtiness of the spa area. There were several groups of young kids running around the spa like it was a water park, with no supervisor whatsoever and no attendant in the men's spa to stop them. I mainly go to the spa for peace and quiet. Specifically I went to the quiet zone in the common area, normally a place I could catch a nap if needed. On this visit people felt very open to playing Tik Toks on full volume, laughing with friends, and other casual conversation. I won't be returning. read more

I would be hesitant to call this place a Korean Sauna. There are better places that can give you a more authentic experience for cheaper. Even if it wasn't labeled as a "Korean Spa" I still would say it isn't worth the price. This is my first time I've been there after the renovations. Fluorescent lighting everywhere, even in the nude baths and changing rooms. Not super relaxing. They also added a line of lockers in the back, which reduced the amount of space you have to change, and put on lotion,etc. The temperatures of the saunas and nude baths were not hot. Slightly hotter than body temperature at best. The steam sauna in the nude section also did not get as hot or as steamy as it used to. The nude baths also got a lot of people with their swimsuits on, which was not a problem, but it did annoy me. The problem was when people started bringing their phones into the nude baths. Staff did not do anything about this. The big hot clay sauna was changed into ANOTHER Himalayan salt sauna with mirrors (?) on the ceilings (why???), the temperatures stayed and hovered around 130~, when previously they had temps ranging from 120~170. They got rid of the sleeping stations and added in more sofas. They also got rid of the nice flowing waterfalls and stuck almost every surface with white tiles. Not super relaxing in my opinion. They also don't have any posted signage about when the food stalls open, and the staff were pretty rude about it when questioned. The pools on the 3rd floor stayed exactly the same, with some cosmetic changes. A lot of the touch-activated water jets don't work, and the pools are still the same as before the renovation - rusty and slightly dirty. Now however, the sauna in the middle of the outdoor area also doesn't work. The only thing bumping this review up to two stars is the food. The food is decently priced and good. The third floor has pretty good Korean food that doesn't cost like 20 bucks for Shin ramen. Overall, the new renovations and management got rid of anything that might be able to describe this as a Korean spa. It's just pools. The renovations didn't improve the facilities, and in fact have decreased the quality of them, sacrificing them for looking "instagram worthy" and modern. If you're looking for a Korean Spa experience, this is not it. Even if you're looking for a relaxing spa experience, this is not it. 85$ entrance fee?? For this??? Definitely not. read more

Relaxing day going from Himalayan salt room, to infrared room to polar ice room. Lovely outdoor pools with jets for any achy muscle. Unfortunately, I lost my tennis bracelet while there. (Therefore, I strongly recommend others remove jewelry they would miss before going). However, all the staff (lifeguards, locker room attendant, security guard and administrative staff) were all extremely helpful and allowed me to look for it until closing and again the next morning. Unfortunately, I have not found it, but am still hopeful it may be in the filters. Fingers crossed!!! read more

We called ahead to find out if it was wheel chair accessible and was told yes. I flew in from California to take my best friend for her birthday and although the facility was clean, it was not accessible. Parking lot was for employees only yet there was an elevator that would have taken me straight into the bldg. instead I had to use my wheelchair down steep ramps where the cars come in and drive it around the block. The entrance to the saunas and dining and massages had a large step up and my wheelchair couldn't go up. Then there are steps to climb to get into the various saunas. I couldn't do it. On the deck with the pool. Yep you got it....steps no ramp to go outdoors to the pool. I had to get help from another guest and the staff to climb up steps and down steps into the pool. I have ALS and what was supposed to be a relaxing day was very taxing on my body. I'm giving two stars because the massage was great and they were very helpful in helping me get dressed and off the table. This place is a liability for anyone who can't walk well. From pulling the back of my wheelchair to get me up a large step to workers physically helping. Anything could have happened to me or my chair, which are my legs. read more

HOW TO RUIN A DAY SPA by Amanda Raker Oh, Spa Castle. I remember your glory days of quiet weekdays where my spa buddy and I would take a sick day, convene in Flushing, hop on a complementary shuttle, and bliss out in a clean and cozy Korean day spa, with piping hot saunas, floor mats, and relaxed lighting, surrounded by appropriate spa etiquette of hushed voices and matching uniforms. The new "renovated" Spa Castle is blasphemous, ostentatious, and depressing reminder of what used to be. Upon entry to the locker room, I was immediately blinded by the new décor where everything is white, reflecting harsh florescent lighting overhead. I was half expecting someone to roll in an exam table with some stirrups and give me a pap smear. In a country where 70% of the population is overweight or obese, let's keep these locker rooms lowly lit, shall we? I don't want to see every nook, cranny, and cellulite ripple here. Venturing into the nude women's baths, they now have clothed lifeguards there to watch you bathe, which seems creepy and unnecessary, considering the baths are less than 2 feet deep. Some women were wearing bathing suits in the nude area, which I also found annoying. Women don't ogle each other's bodies, and its blissful to be nude in all the different temperature pools. Except that changed too. There used to be various temperatures and names for the baths: "Event Bath" at 103 degrees with fun lighting, the succinct but aptly named "Hot Bath" at 108 degrees. Now all the baths were a tepid 98-101 degrees. Gee, let's hang out in some body temperature water! Maybe a placenta will float by. On to the general area. I was so excited to revisit the large hot clay sauna, where you had an enormous dark room heated to 170 degrees with multiple levels. I was shockingly disappointed to discover the only change was to remove this one great sauna, and replaced it with, yep, you guessed it, more florescent lights, more Himalayan salts (when they already had another salt sauna) and a mirrored ceiling like some sort of sex dungeon. One is now forced to stare at themselves when lying down. Great, now I get to see how fat and how middle-aged I am. Thanks Spa Castle. But the worst part is that the temperature in this, and all the other saunas, was tepid. What's the point of having all these saunas if they are all the same temperature? The only variation is that some smelled like a toilet freshener at Port Authority, and others smelled like dirty socks. Why, WHY did they have to take the best thing, and mess it up? On to the pools. Exactly the same as before. No renovations except for a paint job and some cosmetic changes. Just some couples groping each other among the jets. What's gonna float by this time? Ick. Oh wait, let's remember that the M.O. of the renovations was to take away the best parts, and they did remove the outdoor showers that you could sit under on a stool and get a massage. My spa buddy got a drink, and the refreshment area was blasting the archaic Alice in Chains' hit, "Would". When I think of a serene spa soundtrack, a grunge rock tribute song about a heroin overdose from 1992 isn't the first thing that comes to mind, but clearly this is a new vibe. This... plus an increased entry fee?! I feel I should be compensated for having to endure these shoddy and thoughtless renovations. Cleary this spa is not under the same management. It's now just a sad Instagram template for Queens basic bi*ches. Sadly, I won't be back, until the Korean management returns and rights these egregious wrongs. read more
