I took my, almost, one year old Bernedoodle puppy to Spa Dog for a grooming. My puppy had never had a full groom before and I was extremely nervous. Sunny (the owner) had us come in for a free consultation where she and Kylie (our would be groomer) walked us through exactly what our options were. Even though we brush our pup every night, he had some severe mats that were very likely causing him discomfort and we were advised that the best action would be shave him completely. I was so nervous and sad, but I booked the groom. From the day of the consult to the day of the groom two weeks later I must have called or emailed a hundred times (only slightly higher than reality), but Sunny never grew impatient of me or my nervousness, in fact she was calm and patient with me throughout. On the day of the groom, I was very nervous and Sunny called me and said they would do another consult and confirm how short they needed to go and if I wasn't comfortable with it, they would waive the cancellation fee for me. Sunny also mentioned that Kylie had hurt her back and someone else would be performing our groom. When we dropped off our pup, Kylie was there. She was feeling better and she remembered that we were coming in that day and she also remembered how nervous I was, so she didn't want me to have to worry about someone new doing our groom - talk about above and beyond! Well Kylie did an amazing job, she blended our pup's groom so it looks even and so sharp. She has set us up with a plan to regrow his hair and maintain things. Spa Dog is clean, calm and serene, but the absolute most important aspect of things was how much my pup loved it there. He wasn't nervous at all, in fact he didn't want to leave when we picked him up. It is obvious that the team at Spa Dog love dogs and they truly treat each one like family. I felt so good about leaving my pup with them, because it really seems like they truly love him. Which is the best reason of all to recommend them! read more

My poor puppy Benji who I asked not to be shaved got destroyed at spa dog today. These are pictures taken days apart. One looks like a cute happy puppy in need of a cut, the other looks like a sick old dog. They even refunded me my money knowing they had messed up. Unfortunately money won't fix Benjis hair. Be warned spa dog will take you cute teddy bear puppy and do a quick shear of the clippers and hand you back a sad naked little do Update: Months later Benjis hair has grown back but has been destroyed. He had perfect markings with a white stripe down his face and body. This was destroyed by the shave which is why I specifically requested him not to be shaved. I'm still so upset months later and feel terrible that I ever stepped foot in here. read more

It's now 2020, Sonny is the new owner and does a fabulous job with lots of attention to take care of her customers. We now have two beautiful Schnauzers and are so very happy with Cecy. She is a kind, talented groomer. Our boys always look fantastic and dealt with so much care. I watch all the groomers there, and they are so kind and loving and every doggie looks fantastic. My Pomeranian Romeo usually sees Jasmine and she always does a great job. She makes sure to understand the needs of me and my dog and communicates well. She is also very kind to Romeo too and is patient. My dog hasn't liked the groomers in the past, but he adores Jasmine and he is always happy to see her. I normally don't post reviews, but the treatment we received today was a red flag. We've been to Spa Dog a couple of times for our 4 month old puppy. First visit was fine; the shampoo scents were okay, the cuts a little uneven and the price was great. Today we took him in for his last puppy package. 1 hour later we get a call telling us he had a poop and pee right after shampooing (so they had to repeat a wash). He wasn't behaving. We'll be the first to admit he's easily distracted and excited outside the house, but he's a puppy! When we got there he was still wet. They told us they could not blow dry him and we should TAKE HIM HOME WET and DRY HIM OURSELVES! They offered not to charge us. No. Just no. We are not taking our soaking wet dog into -5C winter weather. We ended up holding him while they slightly blow dried him so he wasn't dripping. They said they would not welcome him to their store anymore. That is completely fine. We paid and left. SpaDog said how our puppy was getting more excited with each visit. Instead of simply blaming our dog, who is an excitable puppy for gods sake, perhaps take a look at your own practice. You specialize in the care for dogs. People trust that when they leave their dogs with you they receive patience, care and safety. Do not simply shift the blame and respond in such a confrontational manner. You are entitled to refuse service, but do not do half a job and send a wet puppy into freezing weather. That is unacceptable. TLDR: Decent place for well behaved puppies (I didn't find the scents are amazing as other reviewers have claimed), but the moment your dog causes them any real effort they'd happily kick you out the door. I've seen other similar reviews and comments from the store refuting their opinion. That's fine; there are two sides to every story. I do hope that my post helps add some credence to past negative reviews. read more

I love Spa Dog ....but more importantly, my Cavalier Edie Mae does, too and that goes a long way with me. The staff are all very kind and gentle with anxious Edie. When I pick Edie up, she always looks fabulous and smells delicious...very talented groomers. I also appreciate their straightforward website where base prices are clearly visible-- a lot of other Spas/Groomers insist that you call them. I'm a very impressed with spa dog. My guy is old and blind, however always senses when he's about to be dropped at the groomers. Up until today it was a heartbreaking experience for me and my guy. Hilary was so gentile and sweet with Kahuna. She got what I said when I explained I didn't want a typical "poodle". My poor fat dog* was scooting her butt and I thought she needed her anal glands checked. Our vet is open Saturdays but had no appointments left so I thought I would try a groomer's and this one was in the area. I dropped in said she needed her glands done but I'd like her bathed as well, if that was possible. (This stout corgi is too heavy for me to lift into our tub!) Although they were booked up, someone was a few minutes late for their appointment so they offered to call and see if the dog was actually coming in - if not they said they would have time to bathe her. Stars aligned and they were able to wash her for me. I appreciated the fact that the prices were all set out and the fellow told me what was included with a bath (nails clipped, ears cleaned and yes, the glands). They seemed very knowledgeable and asked lots of questions so they'd know how best to handle her. Afterwards they let me know that she had been pretty happy throughout, but was a little "fussy" about the glands which were difficult to express and that I might want to follow up with her vet in case there was an impaction developing. The dog was very clean, happy, and fluffy afterwards with nice trim nails and hasn't scooted so we're all satisfied. *DISCLAIMER we just adopted this dog 3 weeks ago and we are WORKING ON IT. She is on a very strict NO TREATS diet and gets walked 3X daily. read more

I have been visiting Spa Dog since it first opened and I intend on continuing to go back simply because the owners love what they do and are good at what they do. First, and foremost, this groomer is run by the owners and they genuinely seen to love animals. I know I can leave my dog with them knowing he will be well cared for and groomed by people who really love dogs. More importantly, they know what they're doing. My dog comes out looking awesome even though he has a tricky coat to cut - a coat of fur that is constantly tangled close to the skin. The prices are fair for the level of service and professionalism you receive. The prices are in line with every other groomer I have used in the past. I can't recommend Spa Dog enough. As I mentioned, the owners run this business and you can rest assured your dog will be left in extremely caring and competent hands. My first interaction with Hilary was via email and she wanted to speak to me on the phone. She gave me a thorough rundown on grooming double coated dogs, as I was thinking of shaving my dog (she advised against it). I really appreciated the time she took out of her day to talk to me, what awesome service! I booked in for a shedless bath and tidy and they did an awesome job. Olivia looks and smells great. They also have a great selection of their own bath products, grooming tools, pet beds, dog toys, etc. They obviously enjoy what they do and love dogs! My two dogs had a very muddy play at the park and i called to see if they could squeeze in a bath for both of them. Luckily they had two girls available to get them in right away, which I'm very thankful for. The woman at the front desk explained everything so perfectly and detailed, asking questions about the dogs to better the service. It did not take very long and they were perfectly shiny afterwards. I love that they use organic products and are so caring and lovely with my animals like they were their own. Isaac and Marcy are in good spirits and i will definitely bring them back! I am 5 months pregnant and cannot bathe my dog on my own at this time. He needs a bath to maintain good health. This business refused to groom my large breed Alaskan Malamute again because he took longer than the alloted 4 hour time they have due their tightly packed, non-flexibile scheduling. They are also not experienced dog handlers as they refused to take the extra time to groom a dominant male. I do not recommend this business to anyone who requires a genuine dog lover and experienced dog handler to groom their dog. Their business is an assembly line of dogs and they turn away any dog and owners who do not like leaving their dogs with inexperienced dog handlers as they cannot bother with taking the extra care or time because it interferes with their assembly line of dogs business. ie, volume of dogs they put through is more important than their quality of work and taking the extra care and time for your dog. Because of their inexperience in dog handling, they could not finish my dogs grooming but still charged me full price for incomplete grooming. Not honest at all. In their philosophy statement about their business on their website, they boast about how they offer patience and kindness, are totally flexible, and can customize treatments, and acknowledge that grooming takes time. All lies. They turned me and my dog down and i cannot bathe him when i'm pregnant, so compromising his health, how is that kindness? And they absolutely refused to have any patience, flexibility, or customize any treatments for him because they would rather take in dogs like an assembly line service. In response to Hilary B.'s comments below. My dog has NEVER BITTEN ANYONE, EVER. She is a liar and I will be pursuing slander charges as my vet can attest that he's never bitten anyone at our vet clinic. Nor has my vet at any such time said our dog is not welcome. They absolutely love him there. What an unprofessional establishment that she has to lie on Yelp. Further, breach of client confidentiality to state dogs name on yelp. I will be speaking to my lawyer. Do not trust this women. I would be happy to provide my vet's name to prove her lying to anyone who asks. And do not trust someone with your dog who cannot tell the truth. Also, we require an excellent groomer for our dog as he has a double coat and groomers so far have not been drying him adequately including this one making him prone to hot spots when he has not been dried properly in their limited 4 hour time slot. Despite HIlary being told about this, she sent our dog home wet. Thirdly, he is a sweet lovable dog, thoroughly socialized, and non-aggressive towards other dogs and people. He is a cuddle bug and is nothing but submissive to my 3-year-old. He needs a loving hand when he does not like something and all he needs is some pets and he is fine. This was explained to Hilary B. but due to her inability to handle dogs she did not know how to handle the situation and I hate to see what happens to your dog when situations arise with a handler who is incapable. In fact, first thing she did when i handed him over is shove him in a crate right away, instead of gaining his trust first. She did not bother to make him feel comfortable on his first visit at all, and refused to take the extra time for this. It's important for a groomer to take the extra time to make dogs feel comfortable, especially the first visit, and her refusal to take this extra step proves her inability to handle dogs. It is not a sincere apology to lie about someone's dog. What a horrible thing to do. I do not recommend this business to anyone that loves their dog. PS: My vet office The Richmond Animal Hospital has now been informed and is not impressed by the false accusations made by Spa Dog Organic both to them and my dog. I will not be returning to spadog Organic Dog Spa as I am very dissatisfied with the service. I have a 5 month old 7lb yorkie havanese cross puppy who was scheduled for a puppy trim. The groomer requested an introductory puppy trim instead of the full hair cut. Upon arrival at the "spa" my pup was greeted by the receptionist who insisted on carrying him by pinning him against her body with her forearm across his chest instead of supporting him with the length of her arm. After showing her how calm he was when when properly supported, she ignored my advice and went back to carrying him as a sack of potatoes. I discussed the trim with the receptionist and groomer, and even emailed a picture of the trim i wanted. I did NOT want my dog shaved. The groomer was keen to point out some minor matting to me, to which I noted again that I did not want my dog shaved-- the minor matting came out with 1min of brushing. As recommended by the groomer I wanted this to be a simple trim for my puppy to get him used to the process. I left with an uncomfortable feeling. Upon arrival I was immediately asked to pay and asked for a tip even before I could see my pup. After paying, I was brought my pup who apparently was given a cut which completely ignored my request. Instead of a trim, his face was shaved and not trimmed in other areas. I have to note again, I was specific that I did not want my pup shaved, and that all I wanted was a bit of length removed. My dog was obviously agitated from the experience. Upon questioning the groomer on how it went, she proceeded to tell me, "he was yelping on the table, but it is ok because he was wagging his tail". I was surprised and angry that the groomer didn't understand that the tail wagging is a dogs way of expressing fear and anxiety in this context. She then proceeded to call my pup to show that everything was ok. When my pup didn't come over she got a treat to entice him. When he still didn't come she grabbed his leash and dragged him over to her where she crammed a treat in his face. My pup is very food driven and to see him avoid someone with a treat is extremely strange. Although it was nice that receptionist and groomer asked lots of initial questions, it turned out to be a waste of time as they ignored everything I said. I will not be returning as this was a disappointing experience for myself and an agitating one for my pup. I followed up with Sunny from the spa, where they recognized that the staff needed training and offered an explanation that there "might have been a misunderstanding". In response Sunny offered a 20% discount on my next visit. Needless to say, I will not be taking Sunny up on this offer. read more

I have been here twice now with both of my dogs (Billy & Bogus) and they are a wonderful team. They also give my dogs the best haircuts I've found in Vancouver (and I have tried a lot!). Would definitely recommend using them for your pets grooming! read more

I asked for a breed appropriate cut on my Maltese and he was returned with a cut with all his hair gone to between 1-2cm. It was shocking. His ears, his face his whole body. He has been left shaking and just curled up. This was from hair which at about 12 plus cm was already quite short for a Maltese I cannot express how outraged I am with this terrible service. DO NOT TAKE YOU PET TO THESE CLUELESS PEOPLE Hillary I clearly told you or the person who took my booking that I wanted a breed appropriate cut. To my friend you said you needed to cut out some matting. You DID NOT SAY you were going to give him a short cut over his entire body. You have not excuse to have cut all the hair from his face. He had beautiful long hair flowing from his ears, he had a breed appropriate "beard" and he had a breed appropriate "main". My feeling is the cut you gave him was simply "shear him quickly and move him through". Would you have done the same to a pom, a bijon, a shitzu, a schnauzer. Your excuses are infuriating and its so disappointing to have had my pet returned in such a condition. And to say you were not given direction is simply NOT TRUE. I clearly told you I wanted a breed appropriate cut!! Before you judge on the matting and combing you should really have seen my dog. You haven't, he does get daily brushing. Your dogs sound similar to mine in that the have a certain breed appearance. How you like your dog returned with ALL of its hair cut off ........ face, ears, entire body and given the excuse the your dog had matting. Would you REALLY accept that. I don't.
