I went here with a girl friend for her birthday treat and we absolutely loved it! I ended up getting a massage and she got a pedicure treatment. When we came in, we were welcomed with friendly faces and a beautiful salon. The atmosphere was amazing, clean, and inviting and the vibes were cozy and just vibing. There was nice and relaxing music playing which was great. Nothing too crazy. We headed to our respective areas to get our services and were treated with absolute care. I received my massage from Jazmyne whom I completely recommend. It was the BEST massage I have ever gotten, not too firm, not too soft, just perfect. She targeted the areas I asked for and I left feeling absolutely refreshed and happy. My friend got a pedicure treatment from Liz (Elizabeth) and was radiating when she finished. I use to love Spa Isabell but the last time I went my experience was not the best . I had a facial but it was the worst experience ever, my skin was literally WHITE . Located on the corner of Magazine and Thalia, just off the Pontchartrain Expressway, Spa Isbell is a welcoming salon filled with kind and creative stylists. I have been here a few times now and I have left with a smile on my face each time. The haircuts and styles I have gotten from Gregor have been just what my hair needed. His cutting skills are wonderful, and I love the care and thought he puts into making my hair look and feel great. I'd been searching for a new spa to have massage therapy at since my former one didn't make it through the first COVID wave in 2020. I booked an appointment for 5 people (for a girls weekend). Two of us had our brows laminated by the same person. They were laminated straight up. Looked terrible on both of us to the point where we had to go to the bathroom and immediately wash them out because we did not feel comfortable being seen. She also left an extreme amount of dye/tint still in my brows. I tint my own at home unprofessionally better than this professional. So disappointed in my experience and would not recommend anyone going here to do brow lamination through them. They should not even offer this service as the person providing it is clearly not properly trained. read more

I was in NOLA for work and was badly in need of a massage so I consulted my trusty Yelp app and found Spa Isbell. I booked a massage online and despite a bunch of back and forth with the receptionist over what time and day I wanted to come in I finally got booked. I showed up and had a quick wait before my massage with Victoria began. It was a really good massage! Incredibly relaxing, she was also great about getting out a huge knot I had in my shoulder. It wasn't quite as deep tissue as I wanted but it still was very good. The scalp massage was in particular AMAZING. Some other reviewers mentioned noise issues during their massages - there was a little bit of street noise during my massage but nothing I think the studio could have really prevented. It is definitely a character filled old building which contributes to some of that. Like, I had to squeeze through a really tiny half door to get to the massage. But that's my style so I liked it. They also have a deal where once you get, I think, 10 massages you get one free, so that's pretty cool, and it never expires. I would come back when I'm in town again. read more

I got one of the spa packages for massage, facial & mani/pedi. I loved the esthetician & the nail technician, I highly recommend getting those services. The massage was okay, however the masseuse gave me the impression she wasn't happy to be there. It's just the vibe she gave me. But the worst part was that I could hear people laughing & having a loud conversation during my massage. Not sure if the massage room was near a break room or what? But it was super distracting & made the massage less relaxing. I will give the masseuse props for offering me a glass of wine. I was left sitting alone & had to wait quite awhile between services. So it was nice to finally have someone to notice me & offer a drink. To sum everything up.. Our first time to New Orleans and how blessed we were to find Spa Isbell!! The five of us ladies had the most amazing time! The massages were definitely some of the best we've ever received, the blowout hair styles exceeded our expectations and I had my makeup done, too, which I absolutely loved! I can't say enough how sweet everyone was and so accommodating to allow us to bring some appetizers to snack on while being pampered. Upstairs the two pedicure chairs are in terrible shape and need to be replaced. One chair was completely broken so the one I was in would slowly move backwards so the employee had to constantly pick it back up and bring pillows behind my back to keep upright. It was uncomfortable. However, the lady, I forgot her name, is the owner's mother and she is FANTASTIC! I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her and she's the type of woman I'd like to have a drink with. I'd definitely come back because she's awesome. Booked a massage and facial here for my vacation. Facial was supposed to be a European. The esthetician suggested some upgrades to the facial that would get my pores cleaner. She neglected to mention that she was actually using a 4 layer peel on my face. So while my skin was clean I ended up with a chemical burn and my face peeled for my entire vacation. The 90 minute stone massage was the worst I've ever had in my life. At one point I wondered if the lady was even licensed. The building is beautiful. Here's your warning: I'm drinking and Yelping. Let's start with the phone experience: It's a little hurried and a little loud, but that means the salon/spa is just hopping. The phone elves are really nice and sweet, though. I got my question about my service answered when I called for an appointment before the official business opening, too. Rad. And the building itself: It's adorable. Spa Isbell is in a house that's been restored, reformed, and re-done. Neat! This involves some creative reapportionment of space with lots (AND LOTS) of stairs, which makes things interesting after certain services. Ahem. The salon is on the first floor, with the spa services on the second and third. I think the massage rooms are along a balcony with the facial and skin treatments in a main room. The waxing studio is on the third floor in a very tiny room. Some of the stairs are exposed to the weather, too. Interesting. The staff? Well, they're darn cute. No one is super-young and strapping. Most of the staff are in their late 20s or above. I note this because salons and spas and stuff with staff that's below the drinking age usually make me feel really old and dumb and crummy. I prefer a calmer, more polished staff that's comfortable in their jobs instead of people who are jittery on Red Bull and last night's vodka. The staff at Spa Isbell was hip but comfortably so, appropriately chill. I didn't feel too square. (I'm a total square sometimes.) My particular staffer was Amanda, and she was lovely. She was unflappable when I asked her questions about what was going on, and she told me as much as I needed to know. OH! Right! And not once did I hear a comment on the state of my...uhhh...pudding cup. It was reassuring to not have her make faces or even offer compliments. I don't really know how to review my particular service without having my review removed. You can imagine the awesome things I had done while I tell you that it was better than I expected, although a friend was amazed that I spent the afternoon walking around. The services at Spa Isbell aren't cheap, but they are on-par with similar salons and spas in the area. I thought it was worth my time, especially because my service took nearly an hour when it was supposed to be about 30 minutes. (Don't get me wrong; this isn't the fault of the aesthetician. i came here for the first time and had perhaps the worst wax of my life, and i've been getting waxed for 15+ years. the technician handled me roughly and cut hair that didn't need to be cut, and didn't put the wax on in the correct direction or at the proper temperature. when i expressed that i was deeply uncomfortable, she seemed ambivalent and confused. eventually she gave up and called another technician in, but i was disturbed enough that i left. they didn't charge me, at least, but now i am half waxed, patchy, and literally bruised. don't go here. read more

Can't believe I haven't ever reviewed spa isbell... I started coming here yearsss ago when I lived in NOLA for law school, and was heartbroken when I moved away and had to search for someone else who understands my hair as well as Maritza... Needless to say, after years in SF i have never found someone who can color hair as well as maritza, someone who can blow out my hair so it looks incredibly smooth and amazing (see profile photo; for more than one day nonetheless which is nearly impossible with my hair; i've watched her time and time again yet simply cannot replicate at home on my own), and for such a reasonable price! Each and every time I visit NOLA I make sure to get my hair done with Maritza, even if it means getting up at 8 am to go in there as she's off the other days I'm there...she almost always manages to squeeze me in (as my visits are usually fairly last minute, and typically only a couple days), even when she's rushed she ALWAYS makes sure my hair looks amazing (i.e. has to leave but still will blow it out, flat iron it, trim it when i didn't even come in for a cut, etc)! Everyone is always super sweet here, and now that i'm planning to move back to NY I cannot WAIT for the short flight to Nola so i can continue to get my hair done as frequently as possible by maritza!! love love love! read more

I found Spa Isbell online when I was looking for a place to get a mani and pedi but didn't want to go to one of those quicky places. They were very pleasant when I called and fit me in. Melissa was an excellent aesthetician. She really took her time with my services, and I could really tell she likes what she does. She takes a great amount of pride in her work, and she is very warm, personable, and friendly. I felt very relaxed, and I am very happy with the way my nails look. The spa is very clean, well maintained, and aesthetically pleasing. I could not have hoped for a better experience. I will be back to my new found gem the next time I need services. read more

I've been to a lot of day spas in New Orleans looking for that elusive perfect mani-pedi. Having just moved here from San Fran, I used to have my goto girl and my goto place and so far I've been disappointed by most places here as just mediocre. I saw two people here, one for my nails and one for my toes, and both went above and beyond, really took their time with their work, listened to me and did an amazing job. I'm going back this week and if I have another excellent experience I'd up it to 5 stars. The only reason it's not is because the nail area is really small (only 2 pedi chairs) and there were 3 of us and due to a misunderstanding, they couldn't see us all at once. (But then they did fit in a quick mini-pedi for our third even though they said they wouldn't have time). Kudos! read more

Went for waxing, brow and body parts, as well as a brow shaping, tint. Ashley was the esthetician, wonderful service, great personality, took care of me when I had some discomfort, very easy to talk to about what was needed. Will return for that service. Then, I saw that they do nails. I don't like all the geegaws of nails nowadays and I really dislike the fast nail, do not speak English, do not understand when I say I want a rounded nail and no clipping kind of place, but my nails needed a basic manicure, the kind we used to get but takes longer than the in and out, could care less about you variety. I like my manicure and pedicure to be the oasis of time that really relaxes . So Judy did my nails, perfectly. exactly as I wanted them done. AND she is a hoot to boot. So many stories and I was doubled over with laughter. So relaxed. The place is great. They do it all here and I will be back. Pricing, the waxing was more than I pay at UniKWax or European Wax Centers, but still as expected. The manicure was $25 - for the basic. I'm willing to pay that for the communication alone. The in and out places are less expensive, but not by much and I always feel dissatisfied when I leave. read more

Spa Isbell was able to fit me in for a facial on very short notice, which I really appreciated- it was the week of my wedding and I had some blemishes that needed to go, stat! Ashley did a fantastic facial, and really listened when I described my various skin problems. I left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I took off some stars due to the price- I've had facials before, and I felt that this salon was slightly overpriced. I'm a grad student on a pretty strict budget, though, so take that one with a grain of salt. I wasn't shocked by the prices, as I looked them up online before, but it was still jarring to spend $100 on one service. Though I thought the layout of the salon was cool (another Yelper commented on the fact that it's a restored old house with multiple stories), I would feel really bad for someone who wasn't very stable on their feet. The rooms for facials are pretty much in the attic space, at the very top of some narrow, creaky stairs. Again, it's a cool ambience, but beware if you're not very sure on your feet (or, like me, more than a little clumsy). Also, the massages take place on the second floor, which has an outdoor hallway/balcony that leads to each room. They have a nice awning/shade which protects from the sun and provides some privacy. The only issue? Even a slight gust of wind knocks the shade around and bangs on the railings of the balcony. I can't imagine how loud it must be in those rooms- not good when you're trying to get a relaxing massage! Oh my Lord, YES! After a stressful day at work I got a last minute appt to get my hair washed and styled. I got Micah. He is amazeballs. The décor in the salon is very New Orleansy....sort of weird and awesome. I believe they also offer a glass of prosecco with every service. Just an all around really friendly person and a great stylist. He made me feel totally comfortable, as did everyone else in the salon. I highly, highly recommend this place. I went to Spa Isbell a couple of weeks ago and had a fantastic experience!! I got everything done from manicure, pedicure, highlights, and a haircut. I never realized how HUGE this place really was!!! I first started off by getting my pedi and mani upstairs and had some great conversation and a just all around relaxing time with the nail specialist. I decided to get the UV polish on my nails and it still looks great 2 weeks later. I went downstairs to get my hair done by Angela (the owner) and she did a wonderful job! She was very enthusiastic to do what she could to make my hair look as healthy as possible. I will go back to Spa Isbell for sure. I still would like to try the massages. read more
