After my trial, there was a few things I wanted to change about it and he was 100% open to feedback and on my wedding day absolutely NAILED it! I had the absolute, worst hair cut experience with Roger Orgill! Somehow, he friended me on Facebook, I saw a post of him being the 2019 Best of Long Beach Hair Dresser, etc. I went in for a long shag. I told him I wanted to keep my length, I only wanted a dusting. I had mid-length hair. He started cutting the back of my hair. He spent a lot of time there, he seemed & looked really confused. I thought, "He's either, very meticulous & I'm going to get an amazing haircut, or he doesn't know what the hell he's doing!" He asked me, mid point, if I was, "okay?" I guess he could see my concern. He had absolutely no precision or direction. He was mindlessly, chopping away at my hair! He seemed like he had never cut hair in his lifetime! After he was done chopping the back of my hair, he came around & chopped a piece off the front of my hair! I went from mid-length hair, to shoulder length hair on one side! I told him to stop! I asked him what the hell he was doing!? I told him I was very uncomfortable! I told him, this is not what I wanted or asked for! I left his salon, mid haircut, with wet hair, one side of my hair shorter than the other! I told him, that i didn't want him to touch my hair again!!! I had to leave & try to find another salon to fix my hair, as I was leaving out of the country the next day. It will take me a couple of years to regrow my hair to makeup for the absolute disaster, Robert Orgill has cost me. I'm actually thinking about taking him to Small Claims Court! read more

I've tried to find a new place to get my hair and skin taken care of since moving to Philadelphia, but once I knew I was coming back to Long Beach for a vacation, the first thing I did was make an appointment to see Sidney for a facial and Robert for a haircut. They have a new online appointment system on their website that makes it a snap. Robert continues to do wonders with my hair. He truly is able to communicate with my hair and have a conversation with it. My most recent cut was a little daring for me, and I knew the only person I could trust to do it was Robert. I don't think I've ever gotten so many compliments on a haircut; it continues to amaze me each time I look at it. He was able to give me a cut that does all the work for me; it doesn't require any product or styling, I can just give it a little tussle or shake it out and everything falls into place. Perfect! The atmosphere of Spa Sidney is the other thing I really like about coming here. It's got a real community feel to it, a place where you can feel like you're hanging out with your neighbors. Spa Sidney is always a wonderful experience. I found them through their positive Yelp reviews. Being a guy with facial hair, I was immediately drawn to the fact that their website has pictures of Sidney (who also had facial hair). I've gotten facials elsewhere and found that most were accustomed to women or men with no facial hair, so I thought "if his face looks that good with facial hair, I need to go there!" Sidney is a sweet guy. He walked me through each step of the process to ensure I was educated on the steps and products being utilized. I always strive for vegan, organic products especially on my face (gotta protect the money maker). I usually feel pressured to buy products after visiting a salon, but Sidney and his team create a relaxed environment with zero expectations or pressures. I truly appreciate the products used and stocked in the store - all were from small, independent sellers. Trying to stay a conscious customer, I fully appreciate this small business supporting other small businesses, which is just one of the many reasons I keep coming back. I did end up buying a starter kit with face wash, moisturizer, a serum by Comfort Zone (look it up!). The quality products, relaxed atmosphere, and customer service will keep me coming back. I always leave feeling refreshed and glowing. Without even telling them, several friends have commented "wow, you look great! What are you doing?" I have been seeing Robert Orgill for so many years I can't even recall who my stylist was before him. He is hands down the best stylist out there and I would not trust my hair with anyone else! He has been with me since I lived down the street from the salon years ago, through a million moves, and I now drive up from San Clemente to see him. Totally worth it! I most recently had my first color ever, accompanied by my first post-COVID-quarantine cut. Not only is my color completely gorgeous, and literally gets better every day (how???), but the cut brought life back to my poor, overgrown hair. I checked out Spa Sidney for the first time last week and had my hair cut by Robert. I can't say enough about the place or about Robert. They were both fantastic. The salon is small, but they make great use of the space so it really never feels cramped. It's sun-lit and clean and is a great place to just relax and let someone take care of you. Robert cut my hair dry then shampooed and styled it. My normally fine, flat hair was voluminous and shapely after I left, and remained that way all day. In all, he spent over an hour focusing on me and my hair. Robert even taught me a thing or two about how to care for my hair (without pushing products sold in the salon!) and he was very careful to confirm with me what I wanted so we were both on the same page. Normally I go to the cheapest salon I can find and hope that when I tell them I want layers I don't leave looking like I just randomly took a razor to my hair. I'm glad I looked for a better experience this time because I got it. I found the prices to be very fair for the excellent service and haircut quality. Robert even gave me a relaxing scalp massage as he shampooed my hair. Sidney himself was in the salon at the time and only needed to hear my name once to remember it. He enthusiastically addressed me using my name every time we crossed paths in the salon after that. I'll be honest; it was partially the Yelp coupon that brought me in, but I'm glad I went to Spa Sidney. I will definitely be back for my next haircut and more. read more

I did it again. I cheated on my Spa Sidney. Suuure, I made all the excuses in the world. "I was just soo busy." "It was just a trim, it didn't mean anything." But it boils down to this, once you find the one that really and truly gets you, don't you dare go meandering elsewhere. ...Salons, people. Salons. I'm not doling out marriage advice here. Yeah, I stopped by a few other salons since my last visit to Spa Sidney, and while it usually wasn't a complete disaster, I just knew they weren't "the one." Other than Anna being totally awesome, and always completely understanding exactly the the cut I'm going for, I love that there are only three chairs here. You know at bigger salons, part of all the gossip you hear is about the girl three chairs down and how she totally screwed up someone's hair last week and slept with so-and-so...yeah. I don't care for that so much, good thing at a tiny salon like this there's no room for any of that nonsense. I must say, I looove my hair again. It's not one of those half-hearted, holding the mirror in your hand "Yup. I like it" experiences. No. It's a smiling like a 4-year-old at Disneyland "Oh my god! I LOVE it" experience. I've gotta pay them a visit for a facial sometime soon. Word on the street is that the Sidney Facial is some damn good stuff. read more

I have a confession to make. I am a flaky, disloyal hair girl. Every 8 weeks or so, I wake up in a hair emergency and shlump my way through the day in misery until I can beg an opening from the closest dweeb with hair sheers. Supercuts? Check. Mall Salon? Check. Yeah, I know... with short short boy hair like mine, how hard is it to predict I'll need a hair cut and schedule it appropriately? But because of my phobia of appointments, I am official prey to all of the unwanted hairdressers who have nothing to do but to make me butch, Farah-Feathered or whatever whimsical fancy crosses their bored little minds. Until Manny. Manny has come the closest as anyone to curing me of my planning phobia. Now, instead of enduring another round of "where are you from? are you married?" line of questionings from another complete stranger, I hear Manny's wondrous stories instead. It doesn't hurt that Sidney's store is a half a block from my house. What really matters is that this boy can really cut hair. Manny is one of those talents that when you tell him "do whatever you think looks good" will do just that. Last time he gave me a faux-hawk which was great on the weekends and could be played down for my ultra-conservative daytime life (yeah, so he surprised me on that one but I loved it!) and he's always up on whatever is new and trendy in the salon world. Manny takes tons of care in finding out what you're about, what you want (and don't want) and really studies you to determine what will work for you. His judgment is sound and he usually gets it dead-on. Thanks to Manny, I'm now stopped on the street to be asked "who does your hair?" I always make them take notes and promise to call Manny. Hopefully, not everyone ends up with my Faux-hawk... well, maybe just a few could use it :) Oh, and Sidney is an absolute doll. I haven't discovered my "Spa" side yet but when I do he'll be my first spa experience. Sidney is a total sweetheart and welcomes everyone into his salon like a long lost friend. We are so happy to have found Spa Sidney. The first thing I saw when I walked in was a client leaving with gorgeous hair and giving my new stylist, Robert Orgill a hug! At that moment, I knew I was in the right place. Robert worked wonders with my hair. I have never had any hair style other than long layered hair and it is now a little below my shoulders. It looks beautiful and I would have never thought of it if it weren't for Robert. He made me feel so comfortable and relaxed, I trusted him completely. Spa Sidney is a vibrant little salon/spa/boutique on Broadway. You can't miss its bright orange signage. Inside you'll find a very cute establishment that reminds me a bit of a candy store. I must tell you now, I am a beauty product whore. My roomie bought me a gift certificate for a facial at Spa Sidney. I had never had a facial before. I was a little nervous not sure what to expect. I wondered if it would be like going to the dentist when I get lectured for not flossing enough. My facial was with Sidney himself. He ushered me into the lounge in the back and talked to me abut my skin for a moment and told about some of the products he would use on me. Spa Sidney is one of the sole vendors of Guinot in the U.S, a professional French skin care line. I was hooked. Any beauty product from France simply HAD TO BE SUPERIOR. The facial was fabulous and Sidney is charming character who put me at ease even if the pores around my nose are enlarged. I must go back and buy some more fancy skin creme. read more
