We were on our way to locations far from home and the need for a bio break was becoming clear. There is always that quiet panic that no clean place will be found. Praise be!!! The Sisters Mainline Station was far more than we could have hoped for. They had gents and ladies restrooms so there was less of a queue. The lavatories had stand and handicapped arrangements in the men's room. Hot and cold taps actually worked (you could wash your hands with real hot water). The soap dispenser was great as it created the microfoam for good hand coverage. They had Dyson air blade driers and the door opened outward so you did NOT have to soil your clean hands by touching a door shared by all the clowns that do not wash their hands. Plentiful snack options were on offer to even include fresh bananas at the counter. The ladies working there were delightful, efficient, and made the overall shopping experience a positive and memorable one. Pit stop well, my friends.

We stopped at the 76 station for gas on Monday, July 27, 2020, abut 12:10 or 12:15 PM. When we first pulled in, I was telling my husband that I had to go to the bathroom and I'd get his cigarettes while I was in the store. As I opened my door to get out of the car, I also said he could get the gas on his debit card, but I was interrupted by a scruffy-looking man standing right outside my door, within two feet of me and not wearing a mask. He looked disheveled said, "They don't have a bathroom in there, but there is a park right there about 2 and 1/2 blocks away, ma'am." I thanked him but said we'd just wait until we got to a restaurant. I assumed he was some sort of transient. I went in and bought my husband his cigarettes. The clerk at the cash register had her mask only half on. When I said, "Please cover your nose," she said she couldn't breathe with the mask. I was thinking about all the people who have had COVID and couldn't breathe. But I didn't want to start an argument. When I came out, my husband asked me if I had paid for the gas. I told him "no" because I thought he was going to put it on his card. The scruffy man was still hanging around our car and Rick handed him the card. It was then I realized he was actually our gas station attendant! I asked him to please put his mask on. I had to ask him twice. He thumped the car and said, "You're good to go!" We didn't understand what he meant. "But I still need gas," my husband told him. "Well, you're not getting any gas here!" I was appalled. Isn't mask wearing a law? Aren't we trying to stop COVID? We know from other nations that mask-wearing is the quickest way to get this under control. But regardless of your politics, it is a public safety issue and THE LAW. Luckily, Sisters has more than one place to purchase gas, but this soured us on the whole visit and we no longer had any desire to stay a second longer or spend another dime in Sisters Country. I later learned that the manager's name is Brandon, and the attendant's name is Paul. I was shocked and angry to have a necessity such as gas denied to us because we asked them to comply with the law and public safety measures. Who knows how many people a day Paul is exposed to? Since when is a gas station attendant empowered to make illegal decisions about another person's business? I felt the need to report this to the proper authorities. I have reported this incident to the Bend office of OSHA, the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, and the Oregon Public Health Division, as well as the corporate offices of 76. I have also written to the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sisters Mayor and Council. I strongly recommend that NOBODY patronize this establishment. Go to one of the other gas stations in town.

It's a way long distance to the next nearest fuel if you don't have a Pacific Pride card or the ability to use commercial fuel services. Not such a huge deal anymore with the big Harleys having 5+ gallon fuel tanks and better mileage motors. But 30+ years ago, 100 or so miles was about the range of the average chopper which, "conveniently" was the distance from the Shell station in Estacada to Detroit. All gone now :( The wildfire that swept through Mill City, Gates and Detroit took out many homes and businesses, this store among them. In the 16 years I've been filling up here I have only had two incidents where the attendants were…read morerude. Today is as the one that means I will not go back there. I pulled up and noticed they were pretty busy, and started the process of entering in my data into the pump. A short time passed with attendants walking by without assisting me, so I began pumping myself since it appeared they were too busy to help. Once I did that, a young man decided to confront me about it and when I informed him I was trying to be helpful since they appeared busy - he scowled and began behaving like he was angry and became confrontational about the situation. He continued to press the issue with me, and then decided to pull the nozzle and tell me to leave. He then decided he would take a photo of my license plate and then proceeded to tell me to get my "beat up ass truck" out of there, and he was going to make sure I couldn't get gas there again. As I was trying to leave to he continued his harassment from across the station and at that point I took a photo of him which then triggered another employee to get involved and they both continued to attempt to intimidate me with a show of force. I will be sending the photo and this review to whomever operates that station. It's a bummer because I really like a few of the people who work there and have become friendly with them over the years.
