My first impression was that the receptionists were really friendly and they don't keep you wait for long at all. The space is really zen and relaxing. Although they offer medical treatment, you don't feel like you are at a doctor's office, which is usually slow and stuffy. I saw Dr. Joe after arriving within a few minutes. He was very professional yet personable. I told him where my pain was and he made sure the masseuse understand my concerned areas. The masseuse I saw is Evy. She is very professional and very skilled. I had an hour long massage in a very relaxing room. She set up the chair specifically for my prenatal treatment. I am eager to come back because she makes me feel very comfortable. Besides, I really think the prenatal price here is very competitive. I have low back pain for many, many years. I have seen various doctors, including a spine specialist, but no one has given me relief quite like Dr. Joe. I explained to him where I was feeling pain, he asked about my posture and if I cross my legs when I sit - which I do all of the time. His wonderful nurse found whete the inflammation was and then did two quick injections. These injections are all natural, mostly arnica, so I wasn't concerned about weird side effects. I started trigger point therapy and vitamin drips with Dr. Joe a few weeks ago and I honestly haven't felt this good in years. I went in skeptical of any sort of chiropractic care (as well as vitamin drips) and I came out a convert. Visiting Dr Joe at Space for Wellness was exactly what I needed! After my visit I felt so much better and still do! I had the full package and received a B12 shot, CBD Ultrasound, Chiropractic care and Reiki! I have been looking for a place of "ZEN" for a very long time now. I never really actually believed that it would exist, but I have FOUND IT. In New York City of all places. I was recommended by a friend in yoga two weeks ago of a Wellness Center, meets chiropractic services and medical spa. Everything I need to make myself whole again. I was working 12+ hours every weekend and some weekdays. I had strained my lower back and built plenty of muscle tension in my shoulders from carrying loads of heavy equipment. My first visit was last Wednesday 10/5/11. My experience was so pleasant from the minute I walked in. The dim lit wellness center made me feel relaxed and ready with no expectations of what would begin or end. I was greeted by a nice receptionist and she lead me to my first examination with Dr. Joe Caracillo. He is a noted chiropractor, popular yoga instructor, and respected health expert. In my mind I knew I was in good hands because I use to read Cosmopolitan magazines and he would give some insightful advice on different yoga positions! My exam started out with a back, neck and jaw adjustment. I never realized that I clench my jaw in my sleep, and he made me aware of it. He also attached a Russian muscle therapy machine to my lower back to help alleviate any tension I was having. Immediately I could feel the tingling and buzzing that cured any issues I was having! After my examination and chiropractic treatment, I was sent downstairs for my massage with Eviee. She was this sweet, soft spoken Asian girl that I never expected would of made me feel 110% again! The massage was 60 minutes long and she worked on all the knots I had in my lower back and my shoulders. It was a mix of deep tissue and shiatsu style. After the massage I was realizing I could get use to this. Maybe once a week?! She left the room and when I exited the room I was greeted by her and an Organic Avenue Veggie Elixir Drink! I was extremely impressed. When I went upstairs to check out, Dr Joe was there to ask me how much I enjoyed my first visit. He also mentioned that Organic Avenue is a participant in his Wellness Spa and any drinks can be ordered prior to your treatment. They also stock up on a couple as well. I have never been to a spa that treats you that good with Organic goodies! On Wednesday 10/12/11, I was interested in trying Pilates, so I booked a session of Pilates with Fabricia. My yoga friend said that she was the BEST in New York, and she definitely lived up to her reputation. I tried a combination of Yoga and Pilates before, called Yoga-Lates, but never this true method. I actually used the Pilates machine with her and tried all these different stretching, pulling and pushing methods I never knew my body could handle, but it did! One thing I still had to work on though, was my shoulders. They sort of have a mind of its own. All I had to think was relaxation time and I improved significantly. She recommended that I come in the next day for a massage to loosen up soreness. Thursday 10/13/11, I booked a massage with Matt. He has very limited availability at Space for Wellness. That is because he is very popular and usually takes a couple weeks to book a session with him! Hes in that high demand! I dubbed him Magical Matt because the minute I met him, I knew his presence was exactly what I needed to relax. His calming voice and his selection of music went with the flow of the massage. The strength and use of his fingers and palms of his hands made me imagine ocean waves against my back. He worked out every tension I had and I felt like a whole new improved me! After the session, I was given Organic Avenue Blueberry Smoothie with Sprutilna. So yummy and perfect for hydration. I think I could totally get use to this. I found SPAce for Wellness on Yelp! and through various friends. The place was a nice surprise - you wouldn't know it from the outside, looks like a regular building but once you step inside the peaceful decor and calm atmosphere makes it easy to relax. I purchased the juice cleanse with a discounted massage that I found online. I got my massage when I went in to pick up my juices. While I was waiting I asked the receptionist for more info. who was happy to inform me that it balances the chakras using light and sound therapy combined with deep tissue massage. She mentioned it's a great therapeutic massage while starting a cleanse. Prior to the chakra massage, I filled out a chakra questionnaire followed by a 5 minute consultation with Dr Joe who informed me on the chakras that Pam would be working on based on my results. The receptionist led me downstairs to the waiting lounge - very relaxing, cushioned floors. Pam was wonderful! She worked on the areas that corresponded to my heart chakra and alleviated an ongoing pain that I've had in my neck. I just finished the juices and while it was difficult at times, I liked the way they tasted. I've tried other well-known juicing programs but doing this in combination with the massage gave me great results - sense of clarity and feeling rejuvenated. Came to SPAce for Wellness for a massage through fellow Yelper Athena C. I was really surprised that such a holistic wellness center was near my office- this place is beyond just a spa. It's got everything you could want: lounge, yoga/pilates, massage, hot tub, sauna, lots of nice products in the locker rooms (you get a robe, disposable flip flops, towels, and a locker for your stuff so you don't need to worry). Facilities are nice and clean. The place has very zen decor. They make you remove your shoes to keep the space clean. One of the best things is that the receptionist Anneka can work with you via text- it's hard for me to take personal calls at work because I sit in an open floor so that was convenient. She works with Dr. Joe- who's the chiropractor on site. Dr. Joe saw me before my massage and quickly assessed issues with my back- he was spot on. Then, Terry, my therapist began to work on me, and she was great. She gave me a whole body massage, and was very communicative about letting her know if the pressure was too hard, soft, etc and adjusting accordingly. It was a whole body massage. She gave me a ton of good advice about managing pain and relieving stress. The massage was $110. I'd come back to check out their other services (like the Yoga/Pilates) or just to check out the facilities - sort of reminds me the King Sauna setup and beyond in Pal Park, NJ. Doctor joe is a very good chiropractor. But I read from his reviews to try him out for a alternative (I was having intense stomach pains that were keeping me from work and had just wrapped up two weeks in the hospital with no diagnoses found so I was desperate). Dr. Joe pushed juices cleanses and saying he knew it was because I had toxins built up and that he knew this was the case. Finally hearing someone say they knew the answer was a relief and great, but after a especially painful session of him pushing on my stomach and back "to release the toxins" I went back to a serious doctor I was found to have appendicitis and went into surgery and had my appendix removed and have been 100% ever since. Doctor joes's "diagnoses" was not only wrong but dangerous. Please don't seek his help for medical issues. But he is a very good chiropractor, juices and laying in the dark focusing on fixing yourself just don't fix real diseases and waste a lot of money with you are really sick. read more

My friend Kate referred me to this wellness spa. A few weeks ago, I called to make a same-day appointment. A couple hours before my appointment, the receptionist called back to reschedule since the massage therapist was unavailable. I was a little irritated but the receptionist was really apologetic. Since I was going to be away for a couple weeks on vacation, I declined to make another appointment. The receptionist kindly followed up after my vacation and I made an appointment for a 1-hour massage. My treatment was yesterday -- and it was fantastic! I showed up about 5 minutes before my appointment and answered a few questions. Dr. Joe, who was very friendly, came by to say hi and chat for a bit. There is an area on the ground floor where you can put your shoes and hang your jackets. Everyone in the spa walks barefoot, which I thought was very polite. I was lead downstairs to the locker room to change into a bathrobe. The locker room was nice, clean, and private. I was the only one using the facility at the time. There are a couple sinks, two showers, and a box of female toiletries and products to use. After I changed, I waited in the padded waiting room until my masseuse greeted me and I followed her into the treatment room. My masseuse, Pamela, was very professional and asked me a bunch of questions about which area I wanted her to concentrate on, the type of pressure that I like, and anything else I would like to share with her. She recommended the lavender and orange scented oils to start. I was very impressed with her technique throughout the massage. I usually get a massage once every 1 to 2 months and have been to a number of spas. Pamela noticed the issues that my body had, which before then, only my personal trainer noticed! Smelling the scented oils was different and a nice touch. After the massage ended, I felt so refreshed and a new person! I returned to the locker room and used the steam room and shower. Dr. Joe is an excellent chiropractor and holistic healer. I was feeling pretty twisted and sore after several days of travel, and found his nice new location near Union Square on University. The place is abuzz with natural healers and great energy. First, we sat and discussed my history of injuries, symptoms, diet and recent treatments. (I'm an adrenaline junkie with bulged discs and several healing injuries, so this took some time). After recommending some organic foods and superfoods in my diet, we then proceeded to a treatment table. Heat and some gentle massage helped warm up my back and muscles. Dr. Caraccilo took his time and made sure I was ready to be adjusted. He then made several painless adjustments, bringing immediate relief to some symptoms that I've had for weeks. Side note; The front desk area can be a bit hectic, but don't be thrown off, once you walk down those stairs into the actual space NYC disappears, and so does all the chaos. The first time I went for a massage I booked Beth--Beth was incredible!! Incredible. It felt like at least two people were working on me because of the way she used her hands. This woman is a gem. She made me feel brand new. I've been to a lot of different spas around NY and I haven't come across anyone like her; you can tell she's trained because of how smooth and effortless the massage is. And did I mention it felt like at least TWO people were working on me? Magic Hands for sure. Unfortunately the second time I needed a massage badly I booked same day and Beth wasn't there so I tried someone else; big mistake. Overall the other woman was good, don't get me wrong, but once you find that one, no one compares. Dr. Joe personally gave me a call the very next morning and explained that he was having a family emergency when the receptionist called and he asked her to take care of the situation properly. He did not know what happened at the time and he talked to the receptionist afterwards. She told him that I was referred by a customer there and I requested for the same masseur and that I knew it was going to be a male (which is not true since she admitted that she never asked customers whether they would mind if it is a masseur or not and she mentioned it was the responsibility of the customer to request for a female masseuse while making the appointment). I have to thank my friend for the referral to Dr. Joe Caraccilo. I was skeptical at first to try another chiropractor since I have been to few for many years. I was in a horrific car accident 11years ago where I got rear ended by a car going over 65 mph and I was at a dead stop. I found Dr Caraccilo on yelp after reading all the great reviews, Best Chiropractor Hands Down. I've been to several chiropractors over the years but this guy is easily the BEST. For years I've had pain in my lower back and neck area, He was the only chiropractor that actually listened to me and took the time to figure out what was really causing my pain. I never really had a chiropractor adjust me with such confidence as Dr. Caraccilo. What an immediate relief. I would also like to mention his knowledge of nutrition, heath and wellness in general. I had to take out a pen and paper to keep up with all the information he was giving me, I left with a much better understanding of how I should be treating my body and the food I was putting into it. He lectured me on why I should eat organic food, the importance of trying to buy local food and the severity of GMO"s in our food an how to avoid them. I'm wrapping up the most frustrating encounter with a medical professional of my life, and it's been ongoing for over seven months. It's complicated, and you're welcome to message me if you'd like to hear full details, but here's the gist of my experience: Actual sample conversation: "I try to get all my new patients started on a juice cleanse." "Remember how I've said that I have no disposable income and can only pay for things that will be covered by my HRA card?" "What's that?" He asked every time I brought this up. "It's a card that pays the deductible on procedures covered by insurance." I said for the nth time. "I'm sure we can code it in some way that will be fine." "A juice cleanse? Really? It's food though." "If the HRA thing is a credit card, it shouldn't be a problem." - Dr. Joe is a liar who on multiple occasions assured me that everything he prescribed would be approved by my insurance, then refused to take responsibility when it wasn't. This ranged from a juice cleanse, to massages, to pilates (all of which his office stood to profit from). I was prudent enough to avoid the juice cleanse, but unfortunately I trusted him and believed the latter two. - I asked him to either refund the unapproved appointments or provide me or my insurance company with their requested information, detailing why he prescribed pilates and massages as part of my recovery. - Despite assuring me he would 'figure this out', he refused to answer or respond to all contact from my insurance company. - After reaching out with countless polite emails and phone calls (95% of which were unreturned), it still took him from September 2013 to May 2014 to send me my "medical records" from his appointments. They should have been pages, but it turned out to be paragraph that he wrote in December, yet somehow still couldn't find the time to send until now. My insurance company thought it was a joke. I don't know if he doesn't know how to write SOPA notes, or just chooses not to. - Hm, I notice the other low reviews of Dr. Joe have been removed. Wonder what will happen to this one? Why not one star? When he actually does his job, he's a perfectly serviceable chiropractor. He gave me simple exercises to do at home (not the impractical 30 minutes of homework most people give) which made a real difference between sessions. Had an amazing deep tissue massage and enjoyed the sanctuary atmosphere...Was surprised to find the steam, plus co-ed sauna and jacuzzi. The music was nice and atmosphere really helped me relax and escape. Happy to return. read more

I've been going to Space for Wellness for 2 years. And each time is a treat! First the place is very calm and grounding, the staff is friendly and knowledgable. Today, I saw Pamela who is a Chakra massage therapist. I've never had this done before and it was an amazing experience. She has such a healing touch. From Cranial Sacral, to massage, to bells and visualization, it completely put me back in balance.
