I came here for a last-minute snack and I bought some Starbursts on my way to class. I loved how easy it was to find everything, they also had a large variety of food, drinks, and other things. They also have my favorite kind of mochi which is great for a pick-me-up. I did take notice of a few things. They do have a buffet option which isn't exactly sanitary, especially during a pandemic and they have a $5 credit card minimum for purchases which is ok, but when you need to put your change back in your wallet there isn't a lot of time between customers coming in to be able to efficiently get my stuff together and leave. I ended up dropping a lot of my change and things on the floor. It was a mess. Those are just little things but overall I really do like coming here. read more

Very conveniently located in the midst of NYU buildings It's also great that they offer students and anyone with an NYU ID card a 10% discounts. It's not much but a discount is a discount. Unfortunately I'm not too big of a fan of their breakfast options like Bagels and breakfast sandwiches. Their lunch wraps and sandwiches are better but I feel like it's a bit bland and lacking in taste. The coffee is great though and I love how its self serve. The buffet in the middle is a hit or miss sometimes. It's not the best but they have varied options everyday. Also I wish they would put labels on the food because sometimes I don't know what I'm grabbing and it's a surprise when I bite into it after I buy it. They also have sushi options which is great but I don't like how it's so out in the open where bacteria can get in (they do have plastic Saran wrap as a cover but people don't always recover it after serving themselves and you never know if someone coughed around it, etc). What a deceptive storefront. It looks like one of those annoying overpriced produce markets from the window. And then you walk inside and discover that it's completely not what it seems. I'd estimate that roughly a third of the floor space is taken up by pre-fab food-by-the-pound style buffets. Salads and soups, hot foods, and even more tempting... a giant section of cheeses and crackers. Crap. I can already feel my willpower crumbling, just thinking about the selection. Escaping with my little bowl of soup was way more daunting than it ended up being; the line of roughly ten deep for checkout was managed handily in under five minutes by the staggeringly efficient cashiers shouting, "Next!" faster than I could imagine. NB: Apparently NYU students get some sort of student discount here. It took the cashier asking me three times before I understood that she was saying "NYU." I was like... I walked in today to buy a quick gluten free snack and called my sister on the phone to catch up. I was pacing up and down one aisle looking at food. I noticed one of the workers come to the aisle and stare me down. I knew something was off. A couple minutes later, he comes back and asks If I need help with anything. I tell him no. He proceeds to accuse me of stealing so I walk out of the store. My sister calls the store just after to tell them that their actions were completely unacceptable. The worker on the phone responds with "Why don't you come over and we'll deal with this in person." I cannot believe this place is still in business. This is the only market I'll buy my produce at. The apples and other fruit are the best I've seen anywhere in the city. Contrary to other reviews, the staff has always been nothing but nice to me. They have the best buffet, great sandwiches at a great price without the bad attitude from the guy at the Subway around the corner. On numerous occasions they have tried to charge me a bag fee (when I requested NO BAG) ranging from $0.10 to $1. Further, they have added random items to my order to up the charge. Space Market is great to grab a muffin or packaged snacks but not for their deli or salad bar. Their sandwiches, bagels and paninis don't taste fresh and below average. The food at their salad bar tastes like it has been sitting out at room temperature...oh wait, it has been. Even with an NYU discount, I wouldn't opt for this to be my lunch spot. read more

I was surprisingly satisfied with the pickings at Space Market. They have plenty to-go items, a sandwich counter, a salad bar, warm food buffet - and grocery items in the back! While it was crowded, there was plenty of space to move around. The store even carries fresh produce - and a lot of it. I also appreciated the quick check out. I passed this place yesterday afternoon, and pathetically I became excited to notice they have a hot food/salad bar - so I inquired re: how late the food would be available, since I couldn't return until several hours later. The two young women working at the cash registers were friendly and I did indeed return. The selection was decent, although not huge - including several different types of sushi - and it was the usual pricey $8.99/pound. I was very happy to discover that this store sells a health food juice which I've been unable to find anywhere for quite awhile, so I also got one of those. When I went to pay, the man at the cash register (who's apparently the same one several other reviewers have commented negatively about) was initially pleasant & patient when I left the food there and told him I needed to go retrieve my stuff (two heavy bags) from back by the food bar. I'd put the food into two of the plastic containers instead of just one because I didn't want the food to spill out on my way home, and he carefully wrapped everything in a plastic bag and included plenty of napkins plus utensils. I then asked him if he had (plastic) bags with handles, since the two containers were really stretching the (small) plastic bag and he would have had to put the (very tall & heavy) bottle of juice in a separate bag - so it would have been nearly impossible to carry them for any distance (and especially a lengthy one) because I already had two other (heavy) bags to carry. He did indeed have a plastic bag with handles - and I asked if he'd please "double-bag" it because the juice bottle together with the two containers of food was quite heavy and took up every inch of space, at which point he became very annoyed and *refused*. I then explained that I didn't live in the neighborhood - and I had to take two buses to get home - and I was also carrying two other (heavy) bags. He told me (in an annoyed manner) that there had never been a problem with people only using one bag, so I said "then I might be the first person in the history of this store to have a problem with the bag, so please use an extra bag". AGAIN he refused, so I said "then I might be the first person IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD to have a problem with the bag, so PLEASE USE AN EXTRA BAG". I was spending an *obscene* amount of money, yet he was refusing to give me an extra bag that probably costs them about $.05 (!!). FINALLY he (very reluctantly) complied with my request. I ate some of the food last night and some of it today. Everything tasted o.k., but it was nothing special. The store looked very clean and certainly the two young women were friendly, but the ridiculous scenario re: the plastic bag was inexcusable (I'm being generous by giving three stars) and therefore I won't return. read more

Ordered a siciliano panini today which said that it has salami, ham, mozzarella, spinach, red peppers, and vinegar. I instead got a 2 inch stack of salami with swiss cheese between pita bread. I paid the absurd $13 for it and I didn't realize until I got back to work. --- I'm giving two stars because their food is always fresh, BUT EXTREMELY OVERPRICED. Seriously. I've lived in the neighborhood for over 20 years and avoid shopping there when possible. It's a "bodega" for out of state NYU kids who dont know any better. Alright - this joint follows standard college campus deli protocol. It is overpriced and of questionable quality. That said, if you have no options, you can do worse. There is no consistency with the sandwiches, both in price and make. Some days a ham and cheese will be $7.00, others $7.50. What really gets me (and has prompted this review) is the tomato situation. These guys will always put tomatoes on your sandwich. It is only a small inconvenience, but out of curiosity I have tried a few different ways of ordering: "Ham and cheese, no tomato please" "Ham and cheese, lettuce, no tomato" "Ham and cheese, nothing else, no tomato or lettuce" ...you get the idea. Without fail, you will walk out of there with two slices tomato. The key is to not say the work tomato at all. If you say the T word, you get it. Period. There are creative ways around this, but they require some maneuvering. It is as fascinating as it is frustrating. read more

Tried this place because I heard a lot of good stuff from friends. Got food from the hot bar. I went and got food at about 11:30, before the lunch rush. I got a few items, paid, and went back to eat. All of the food was cold or lukewarm at best and none of it was very good. The fish tasted very fishy but worst of all, I found a worm in the fish. I spat out the food and promptly threw it away. The prices charged for certain items at Space Market are outrageous. Many of the key products have no prices marked on them, and so one only discovers at checkout how expensive they are. Today, i bought bacon and eggs. Oscar Mayer bacon was $16, almost double the price anywhere else online. The eggs were $8, which was 55% higher than the norm online. Apparently, "24 hours" does not mean the same thing in Manhattan as it does in Brooklyn. When I lived in Brooklyn, I could crawl into my deli (God Bless Deli, FYI) and order an egg and cheese on a roll at any time of any day and they would make it for me. If they didn't have rolls, they would put that shit on a hero and NOT charge me extra. Now that I live down the street from the pit of despair (NYU, FYI), I have started to go to Space Market... partly because I thought the name was funny, which was also why I picked my last deli. Anyway... At Space Market, I would have to estimate that of the last 5 times that I ordered my egg and cheese, the man at the counter fought with me four times. Twice, I believe I walked out with the goddam sandwich. Excuses I have received: "The grill is not on." (Turn it on, I can wait. You are cooking a egg, not a goat.) "We have no rolls." (So put it on any other type of bread-like material you may have. Space Market is also a small grocery store, so this excuse makes no sense.) "I'm cleaning right now." (Are you kidding me?) (There was no one at the counter and the guy at the register was bewildered at that fact. No one to argue with here.) The salad bar is not the worst thing in the world for a impromptu picnic, so they can have two stars. Oh, and I don't go to NYU but I lie and get the discount. You should all do the same. An NYU haunt that sports a large salad bar, a large selection of sandwiches, and stocks general grocery items. Not to be confused with Spice Market or an establishment that specializes in Tang and freeze dried foods. I've had two sandwiches here - a very good mozzarella, sundried tomato, and basil sandwich (Gourmet #5) and a well-intentioned but lacking Italian hero (Gourmet #6). Really like their olive bar in the back. Ton of choices and a dozen or so olives will only set you back about $1.50. A definite step up from the All About Food around the corner. read more

The only thing good is the location to NYU Campus The salad bar is really $8/ A POUND! Most of the foods are lathered with sauces & mystery meat (no signs to say what the mystery dish is). Pork? Chicken? Who knows?! Even with the 10% off during summer for NYU students, my food never gets a real 10% off, just about 20- 30 cents off for a $5-$6 worth of food. That's only about 5% discount, forget you. I'm going elsewhere. read more

If you're an NYU student, you've most likely stepped into this place at least once, whether you were in a rush to get to class in the morning and wanted a quick cup of cheap coffee and cappucino or came by during lunch for some food from the large buffet selection. The Koreans who run this store also enjoy the more-than-occasional group of drunk stragglers in the wee mornings. The buffet ranges from Chinese to Japanese to various salads. The place is open 24/7, but I'm not sure if I would trust the buffet after a certain hour. While their sushi is cheap, the chefs overstuff the rolls with rice to weigh down the sushi (since you pay by weight). This isn't exactly the cheapest places to go grocery shopping either, even with a 10% NYU student discount. read more
