Had a New York weekends and unfortunately our hotel did not provide breakfast. So we hit the streets and saw this diner close by. We walked it and were greeted by the host. We got seated pretty quickly for a Sunday morning. Inside it was a cute diner and very spacious. Since we were in a city I knew it was be expensive and it was. I got a simple three egg dish and coffee. Everything was cook right and delicious. My fiancé got a bagel with lox. He did not like his bagel but it was fine. I had pretty low expectations of this place given its proximity to Time Square. Carnegie Deli Times Square lived up to my low expectations by delivering a thoroughly average experience. The service was terrible. I sat at the bar during lunch - with very few patrons in the dining room - and was ignored for about 5 minutes before a bartender greeted me, despite 2 bartenders being behind the bar just feet away. I was also the only person sitting at the bar. The ambiance was non-existent. It's loud and echoey. One of the few occupied tables was a large, extremely loud party. These folks were so loud that it was painful. Thanks to the lack of any acoustic material anywhere in the dining room, the high ceiling, and hard floor their yelling and screaming echoed throughout the establishment. You couldn't even hear the piped in synth pop over the speakers thanks to these people. I got my food: a chicken salad sandwich and a Coke ($5 for the Coke). The sandwich was passable - nicely toasted bread and a very average, mayonnaisey version of chicken salad. It was served w/ a small salad (nice add) and fries. The fries were the highlight of the meal - very good. You pay yourself using a QR code on the bar. It defaulted to a 22% gratuity. I thought to myself, "22% for doing what, exactly?" Make sure you adjust this accordingly. No one interacted with me once after my food was served. They stood 5 feet away behind the bar and talked to each other, just not to me. So, if you're in Time Square and not interested in Applebee's or Olive Garden, Carnegie Deli Times Square is another place you could go, if you want an average, very loud experience. read more

Regardless of what you're looking for, the portion sizes are substantial, so you don't need to order multiple items and can do well choosing one -- so long as you don't get overwhelmed by the selection. For me, I wanted breakfast, and that is what I had (I was close to ordering pastrami, but I digress). The Peanut Butter & Bacon Pancakes were incredibly filling and delicious. A solid choice if you know you're going to be walking about with carbs to burn, and drinking to be had. My wife had a chicken Caesar sandwich with gluten-free bread that she enjoyed immensely. If you know me, you know I love a good diner. Carnegie on 8th Ave was ok. The interior was bright and colorful and the wait staff was friendly. Upon ordering, the food was on the table within ten minutes. Ok, let's get into it. First up was the Smashed Double Stack with caramelized onions and chipotle sauce. This burger was juicy and had a nice char on it. This also came with fries and a salad. I would have preferred more fries, but now I know for next time. 5/5 Next was the Bacon Toast. This is French Toast with chopped smoke bacon and walnuts topped with a sweet mascarpone and caramel drizzle. This is also served with a small bowl of fruit. That was a nice touch because it is not mentioned on the mention as a part of the breakfast. As much as I tried to love it, even though the flavors blended nicely, I was not pleased with how tough the bread was to cut. I like French Toast to have a crispy surface and texture, but once you cut into it, it should be moist. This was not that. 3/5 Lastly, was a vegetarian omelette served with a small salad. In my mind, you can never go wrong with an omelette. 5/5 The one thing I will try next are the mozzarella sticks. I was eyeing the kid across from me who had them. They had a cheese pull out of this world. Stay tuned for those pics. I suggest making reservations because it can get pretty busy at this Times Square location. We got a reservation on Resy for six people, and we were able to make it for that same day. I highly do recommend making reservations because we were seat right away, and we saw other people who had only walked in still waiting. I got the Triple Decker grilled chicken and this is more than enough for two people. It was pretty good, but I do have to say that it was very difficult to eat simply because of how big the sandwich was. The chicken was nicely seasoned, and it coming with avocado was great. The fries were OK, pretty standard diner fries. It is definitely on the pricier side, but again, I do highly recommend you split a plate because they serve you pretty well. Baby, this was NOT the breakfast experience I came looking for. We waited a few minutes to be seated, which I completely understood because the restaurant was packed. We weren't given water, and we waited about 30 minutes before anyone came over to take our order. We already knew what we wanted, so there wasn't much "thinking" happening at our table. We were READY. Once our food finally arrived about 30 minutes later, my chocolate pancakes had me questioning where the chocolate went. Baby, you cannot drizzle a little chocolate on top, sprinkle a few pieces around, charge more than you would for buttermilk pancakes, and then call it a chocolate pancake experience. I came for CHOCOLATE, not a chocolate scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, my daughter's meal had an even bigger issue. She specifically requested NO tomatoes on her burger. She isn't diagnosed with an allergy, but the smell of tomatoes makes her extremely nauseous, and we made that request very clear when ordering. When her burger arrived with tomatoes on it anyway, she was immediately grossed out and couldn't eat it. At that point, I had her eat the rest of my pancakes, because apparently we were having a breakfast buffet of whatever survived the experience. And then came the check. After asking for it, we waited another 20 minutes. I completely understand that the restaurant was crowded, and I don't expect instant service when a place is busy. But after we'd already waited so long for our food, it would've been nice to have the check brought over rather than waiting while other tables were being seated, ordering, and receiving drinks. I really wanted to enjoy this place, but between the long waits, the disappointing pancakes, and my daughter's burger coming out with something we specifically asked to leave off, this was unfortunately one of our worst dining experiences in a while. We came here twice for breakfast during our weeklong stay in New York. I had the steak and eggs which were outstanding. Both the brisket and the eggs were cooked to my exact specifications. It comes with potatoes, toast and a green salad. My picky husband ordered an omelet both times and was very happy. One night we stopped in late for some decaf coffee and dessert. The coffee was excellent, but they were out of apple pie, which I wanted. Understandable as it was late. I'm sorry that I took a photo of my plate only after it was half-eaten, but trust me, the whole thing was great. The service is efficient and friendly. Giving credit where it's due - the wait staff is extremely efficient at turning over tables. We were probably waiting no more than 20-25 minutes. Once seated their goal is to get you in and out as quick as possible. Service is fast, servers are attentive, food comes out quickly. We chose to share the Times Square burger, drawn by the idea of a burger and a chicken sandwich in the same bun. It was good but it wasn't great. I think this combination isn't more common for a reason. While the flavors work together, neither really adds anything to the other; so you're left wondering why you opted for the extra calories. The fries were good. Tables are very close to each other. We had another couple immediately next to us. We all ordered pastrami sandwiches or "hotdogs" which is pastrami on a hotdog bun. We were very confused by that as the two girls that ordered that thought it came with a hotdog and pastrami. I liked that the waiters and waitresses shared duties checking on the tables. We were quickly able to get water refills, sauce refill and in my case Coleslaw. It wasn't too loud in there, we could hear each other talking just fine. It was quick and efficient and we were in and out in under a hour. The portions are expensive but they are HUGE. We stopped in for breakfast right after getting off the train at Penn Station. We sat at the bar and Augie took care of us. He and the other girls behind the counter were excellent! You can tell they have fun at work and really interact with customers at the bar. My husband had steak and eggs while I had the avocado toast. Both were delicious but I felt the avocado toast was pretty overpriced considering it was just under the price of steak and eggs. This space used to be occupied by the Press Club Grill, and the interior decor is largely unchanged. Just a change in ownership I guess? The menu has expanded significantly from the Press Club Grill. The prices seem to be overall more reasonable compared to before. So far so good. On the downside, portion size is down. The bagel & lox here at the Carnegie Diner is tiny compared to what I used to get at the Press Club Grill. Biggest issue I had though was the relative lack of service. Both days that I dined here, the only times my waiter came to talk to me was to get my order, and to drop off the check. I had to wait 5 minutes just to flag down a different waiter for a coffee refill both days! With that said, I noticed that they have bottomless mimosas on their brunch menu... you probably shouldn't order it because getting a drink refill here is unreasonably difficult! read more

Carnegie diner is always bustling...so if you can grab a reservation, do it. Coffee was strong and tasty; refills were free. I anticipated coming here after a Broadway show. Glad we got there before it got too crowded. I think I just made bad choices as far as ordering. I asked the server if she recommended the Carnegie Nachos or the Onion Rings. She said the nachos were popular. My son ordered the burger which he enjoyed. My nachos looked good with lots of guacamole which many places skimp on and lots of sourcream. However, after a few bites, I looked back at the menu because something seemed missing. The description stated containing steak chili. I saw maybe one spoonful of chili?! Anyway, I thought I would just eat it but noting that this was very low on protein and I was disappointed, I sent it back. I rarely send food back but I decided I'll try the onion rings. Again, served hot but I thought it looked like it was taken out a tad too early. The onion was slipping out of the batter after one bite. I didn't want to send this dish back but I was disapppointed. There was a "special sauce" that was part of this appetizer. It was basically an apple sauce, just too sweet for something like this and I prefer ranch dressing. Overall, my son really enjoyed his Corner Burger. I tried to salvage the salad on his plate and realized it was merely a garnish, no dressing on it. The server was really nice and it looks like the host/manager proactively try to serve the customers here. I felt bad after his experience. The have their A/C cranked up for those hot & humid NYC days, which was great. They have plenty of food options and everything I had was great. I had their American Breakfast in the mornings, Pastrami or Chicken Salad sandwiches for lunch and a nice steak for dinner. The Happy Hours are great and the bartenders serving you are friendly, efficient and know the assignment when it comes to cocktails. Definitely a place to have a quick delicious meal and drink!
