I see yelp has different spago restaurants in windsor--this review is for the one on erie street in the italian area of town--love it here--even met the beautiful owner anna vitti--this place is #2 on the list of top restaurants in windsor--our sweet waitress was ana--she handled the crowd well--did not have to wait for anything--our food was amazing also--they are building an addition--heard it was an outdoor dining area--on the weekends they open up a second floor for music--had a wedding there yesterday--we will be back soon...

I came here on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30 PM. The place was about 90% full. Families, couples, singles, all types of groups. I was seated quickly at a table by the window. My waiter, who I would like to give a shout out to you, but I forgot his name was excellent. Attentive, very polite. They had an entrée special and appetizer special. I ordered both specials. They always bring fresh bread with roasted garlic cloves on top. The garlic is soft and spreadable on the bread. It is very yummy. I started my meal with a glass of wine and an appetizer of Barata cheese that came with a tomato sauce and pesto. It was good. Not as gooey as as some I've had but quite excellent. Then there was a salad that came with the meal. It was very simple, just greens and tossed in an oil and vinegar dressing. A nice light interlude between my appetizer and the wonderful lamb shank that came next. The lamb shank was large and covered with excellent tomato sauce. The tomato sauce texture is not entirely smooth, but not chunky. I'm not describing this in a negative way, it's really really good. The lamb shank was so tender. I didn't need a knife. It was served with risotto, which had just the tiniest chew to it. It was perfectly cooked. I was too full to order dessert, but I heard people getting the tiramisu. As it was, I went home with a large amount of food for tomorrow.! I've seen some people say that the decor is tired. I don't agree. Yes, there was a chair at my table that the vinyl had a little crack in it. It was not a hole and it certainly wasn't something that I would avoid sitting on. It is the same as it's been for all the years I've been coming here. When I cross the border to go to Windsor for an event or just for shopping, this is the Italian restaurant I come to. It is consistently good. Let's talk a little bit about price. The appetizer was $22, my glass of wine was $10 and the lamb shank was $44. You have to remember, if you're from the US, that there is an 18% tax that is added to your meal. However , given the volume of food and the quality I thought the meal was reasonably priced.

We came here on a Wednesday over the holidays and it was packed. Despite not having a reservation, we were seated within 15 minutes. Had a starter of grilled calamari. We had entrees of lasagna, veal in while wine and beef. Each came with a side of salad, and mine came with noodles. That was to complement the veal and white wine sauce. I think that was the most outstanding dish. Had some cannoli for dessert, which was exceptional.

Whenever I'm in Windsor Ontario for work, everyone wants to eats at Spago. I finally went there and I wasn't disappointed. It definitely has an older, Italian family vibe when you enter. There's 3 locations in Windsor, and people say this is the best one. The portions are pretty generous. There was complimentary foccasia bread with actual cloves of garlic to start. I ordered the Parmigiana, which was 2 pieces of 2 pieces of breaded veal. The entrée also came with a good plate of house salad, and pasta. It was very saucy, which I like.

We spent a rainy day in Windsor and were hoping for a cozy spot for a good meal. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed and we had no reservation. Nevertheless, we were seated and had a fantastic meal. We sampled the lasagna, Brasato, and veal scallopini. Of the three, veal carried the day! Ordered with garlic and oil on the pasta, it was the perfect Italian dish for a rainy day. The other two dishes were great but the veal really emerged as best. Looking around the restaurant, the pizza looked quite temping as well. They have a reasonably priced wine list and the whole meal was quite affordable.

Because I was staying at the casino and got in so late. This was the closest restaurant to my room. I went wearing running pants, tennis shoes and a t-shirt. I was completely underdressed but they still accepted me into the restaurant. I sat at the bar and ordered take out. As I waited I had two drinks. I sat next to a trash can and the dirty dishes so the smell was not amazing but the staff was polite and would check in on me. The food took 20 minutes. They had the hockey game on one TV and a show with subtitles on the other. Food was packaged with silverware and napkins. I felt I was given a lot of food for the price. If I were to go back I would dress better and grab a table. Seemed like a neat place for Italian.

This was my first visit to Spago. The main floor is adorable, love the decor. The upstairs is much "fancier" and has more of a formal feeling. We started with the arancini which were the best I've had that were not in Italy itself. They were so flavorful. They had the perfect amount of crisp on the outside & the inside was sooo gooey with cheese.10/10 The house salad that comes with the meals are very yummy. Fresh and covered with the perfect amount of dressing. 10/10 I got the lasagna for my main course. I think it needed more sauce, as it was a bit dry. The noodles layers were too thin which caused them all to stick together. 6/10 My bf got the chicken parm and he loved it! He gave it 9/10 Overall, the service was great. I will be back!

Phenomenal plate of pasta and seafood: shrimp, scallops, mussels in a white wine sauce. Kitchen helped me some red pepper flakes to spice it up. Fresh, simple, well executed. Setting is casual and staff friendly. I definitely would return and eat more seafood.

Good place for a reasonable group dinner or lunch. Service is fast so don't be discouraged by long lines.

Excellent on the lower and upper floor. Casual with smoked pizza and garlic on the lower, and Dressy on the upper floor.

This place checks ALL the boxes-ambience , service and most importantly the food! I ordered the calamari fritta and the veal saltimbocca and both were prepared to perfection! The calamari was super fresh and the veal was, as my grandpa would say, "tender as a woman's heart" DEFIANTLY worth a visit if you're ever in South Detroit!

We enjoyed the bread topped with garlic the most. Added some dipping oil to it and ate way too much. Cocktails were also great. My mom's cocktail was $22. I forgot what she drank but remember her surprise that her drink was about the same price as her meal. Her vegetable primavera was good. My lasagna was ok. Very large portion. There is a restaurant in Memphis that has a fresher tasting sauce similar to being in Italy. So it wasn't bad, the sauce is just not as fresh as my other favs. Also, the celebration dessert comes out with sparklers so the night ended with a flash! It was a great experience. Def would not go again without a reservation. But glad to check it off my list of places to go.

Arancini were excellent, I personally felt a little more pomodoro would be nice, but is not necessary since the arancini have good flavor and seem to be super popular by the sheer amount of them coming out of the kitchen. The pesto balanced the arancini well. The Brussels are good, a little under seasoned (I did not taste hot honey nor the yuzu aioli on any of the pieces I tried) but cooked well and the pecorino is lovely shaved. My meal, agnolotti piedmontese, was excellent. The beef inside was so tender, pasta cooked well, and the butter and cheese, finished with a potato crumb, was absolutely stunning. My husband had the pollo trevisano. The chicken was ok, was pretty bland, the only seasoning being salt, which came from the prosciutto, and the butter herb sauce, which seemed to lack any real depth. The mash was excellent. Also came with some broccolini on the side which was cooked perfectly. My grandmother got the octopus appetizer for her meal. The octopus leg was chewy/overcooked. On the flip side, the potatoes with bacon were delicious. The arugula was well flavored. Overall was the most disappointing part of the meal, barely ate the octopus that she was so excited for. My grandfather got an excellent rigatoni dish that I cannot recall the name of, and their website is currently not up to date with what their in house menu is so I do not know the name. I did not try it myself but It has veal, and either kale/cabbage leaves or some interestingly large spinach, as well as a delicious sauce. The veal was amazing, he raved about it endlessly and shared that dish with my grandmother. To end our meals, my grandparents split an Affogato, and I got a coconut and banana panna cotta. My husband was full from dinner and did not indulge on dessert. Service: 5/5 Between our server and the other staff keeping our drinks full, table bussed and reset, and the timely service, it was an excellent occasion. Our server did an awesome job checking on refills of wine. Ambiance: 5/5 Absolutely adorable corner location right on Erie and Howard. They have awesome seating, tables, and lighting. The tvs play old sitcoms. There are umbrellas hanging from the ceiling, that may seem silly at first, but seem to divert the AC/heating from blowing directly on their customers, which is a lovely touch. I've never seen any other restaurant do something like that to keep their customers comfortable, I applaud it. Overall, a great experience with decent food. If we decide to venture back, we will have to try the pizza, get some more arancini, and try some other dishes.
