Hankering for a good sandwich and stopped at the Little Lucca location in Burlingame. These guys hit every time but this last visit was the best ever. I stopped in on the day they must have just received their order of rolls. The rolls were incredible, soft, a little bit of chewiness and fresh flavor. I wasn't planning on eating the sandwich until later in the evening so I asked for everything to be wrapped separate which they did. I had a great wonderful and fresh sandwich that evening. Wow this was an excellent sandwich. Perhaps even the best! I tried to visit the SSF location but the line would not budge. Although this location also had a line (weekday lunch rush), it went by quick because there were 5 workers prepping away. Two Meat Special ($14.25) - I chose Chicken Rotisserie & Peppered Turkey on Dutch Crunch. The whole thing was bigger than my arm! All the ingredients seemed fresh and melded perfectly. Came after work around 3 PM on a weekday. It was pretty packed inside and I waited a good 20 minutes to get my sandwich. I got a Lucca Combo on Dutch crunch. The sandwich is enormous. It is quite a good deal and definitely can be split into 2 meals for most. The garlic sauce is really good and they are generous with all the meat and toppings. Overall I thought it was pretty good, though I travelled a while before eating it. I think all they're missing is peperoncinis to cut through the richness of the garlic sauce and mayo. It's a mess, so I would recommend finding a secluded spot to eat it like an animal. Service was line style, and moved relatively slow in my experience because a lot of customers were customizing their sandwiches pretty heavily. Service is really friendly though. read more

If you want an awesome Sammy the size of your head, these guys will get you in n out quick with a no frills counter servic Got the Pastrami hot w/ pepper jack and everything on it. The sandwich tech guy was kinda sloppy on the build this time, don't know his name but if you watch him, you will know as the sauces were not evenly spread, some tomatoes folded and doubled up, pickles clumped on half the samich, onions unevenly placed...sloppy work. Normally you get a balanced marriage of the flavors in each bite, this time you I got blank spots and bites of excess condiments. This is the first time I have experienced this after years of Samich bliss! I'm going to chalk this up to poor training and supervision as I'm sure if any of the Veteran Sando techs or the Boss observed his process, they would call him out, hopefully. If I have to designate a "meibutsu" to Burlingame, it'd be Little Lucca. Came here on a random Tuesday after Memorial Day weekend, slightly after lunch and it was still PACKED to the brim. Super organized winding line and you can tell it's regulars who are grabbing lunches and who have already put in big orders through the phone. Local favorite and easily can see why. The specialty is their original garlic sauce from the 1980's and their comically huge sandwiches. The other must is to get their Dutch Crunch since it's a more unique bread that isn't commonly offered elsewhere. To be honest, this was the first time I've even heard of this bread. Also TRIGGER WARNING, skip over this part if you fear medical maladies or body horror, but the texture of this bread reminds me of scaled diabetic calves from my time working in the hospital. Disturbing random thought I had, but the sandwiches are delicious! Toasted to perfection, slathered in sauce, super huge. You can always build your own sandwich, but I'm no expert and it's always best to let the real sandwich artisans do their jobs. Cannot go wrong with their turkey sandwich if you like a Thanksgiving taste and Lucca Combo (anything with their titular title in the name, is a solid choice). I haven't been here before but I've seen a ton of reviews that this is a Goated sandwich spot so I stopped by on my way to the city to grab one. It's in a pretty busy shopping plaza and so parking might be tough. But you walk in and the line is wrapped around with a bunch of sandwich makers that make your order fresh. I ended up getting the lucca's ultimate (turkey, ham, bacon and cheese) on dutch crunch. The sandwich is huge btw so you can definitely split one with someone else. Everything tasted fresh and the garlic sauce is incredible. I will say that the bread isn't toasted and pretty thick so the bite that you get can sometimes be a bit hard to bite through. Instead of cheddar, I would change it to pepper jack or provolone so it compliments the pesto. The fire roasted steak Caesar could've used some pepperoncinis or something else to add heat. Another lesson learned is I definitely should ask for the bread to be toasted next time. Pricing was about $15-18 a sandwich which I'm not that mad about. It's better than Katz Deli being $30. I was so happy to find out there is a Burlingame location as I heard wonderful things about the South San Francisco place. It's a quaint shop with ample parking. We were greeted with a line out the door already for a Saturday lunch time rush. It was actually perfect because it'll give you time to decide on what to order. This location is a bit faster than the other one and a lot roomier for people to walk through and stuff. They make the sandwiches just as bomb as the other location. They have their original garlic sauce that you cannot leave off of your sandwich because quite frankly would it even be a Little Lucca sandwich without it? All in all, I was satisfied with my sandwich and could not finish it in one sitting. So, if you're ever in the mood and are in either South San Francisco or Burlingame- try it. Little Lucca is a Peninsula staple, but it's not my favorite sandwich spot. I didn't have a good experience the first time I tried it because one of the meats in the muffaletta was impossible to tear and poor quality. Despite the olive spread, the muffaletta tasted nothing like a real muffaletta. It also caught me off guard that they tore away part of the bread and threw it away to make space for the filling.
