came here for dinner with the boyfriends family after them talking about it for months/years and omg.....wowza....!!!!! the vibe was so nice and the food was even better. we had the weekend appetizer sampler special to start with great calamari, chorizo, and shrimp. i had the tropical shrimp (served in a pineapple like omg) which was soooo delicious, boyfriend got the seafood paella, and his parents had the mariscada with red sauce! everything was so delicious and fresh it was hard to stop eating!! the flavors were just so incredible and having wonderful service made this meal even better. Came here with my fiancée and her parents. We're Portuguese and Colombian, so we know good meat and flavor and this place absolutely delivered. Takes way too long to get your dinner- waitress overworked. A nice bowl of soup would be nice instead of a bowl served to me looking like i just finished. ITS a shame cause it WAS delicious. Cod had bones in it' should've told us....almost choked. No Portuguese rolls!!!!! Regular bread(.thats not the norm.in a Portuguese restaurant). Garlic sauce was burnt, ruined taste of the shrimp & garlic. It wasn't busy at that time so NO EXCUSES! ONLY 1 TABLE was occupied when we came in with only 2 people. Horrible, horrible service. Dinner orders were incorrect and tried to charge us for them. Food is average. Will not return.

We really wanted to love this place and had been wanting to go for quite a while, so the experience was a huge disappointment. We didn't realize we had ordered the paella for two, which was over $80. That part is on us. However, one order would have been more than enough for two people--especially considering it also came with a delicious bowl of soup. The portion was enormous, easily enough for four people, and unfortunately resulted in a lot of wasted food. The bigger issue was the quality of the seafood. Both the lobster and shrimp were shockingly overcooked and rubbery, to the point of being inedible. Oddly, the scallops were not overcooked. We mentioned the lobster to our server, and she kindly offered to have more cooked, but given how much food we already had, we declined. We expected perhaps a small adjustment to the bill or an offer of dessert, but nothing was offered. Given that paella is a staple of Portuguese cuisine, it was surprising and disappointing to see it executed so poorly--especially at this price point. Because of the overcooked, overpriced seafood, we would not return. That said, the staff was very friendly and efficient, and we were happy with the service. read more

We were the second table on the Resturant and waited 45 minutes for our appetizer then another hour for our dinners. Several of us ordered the same garlic shrimp, the garlic was burnt, service was very slow, other customers came in were seated served apps and dinners and left before we received our dinners. People also walked in and waited by the front desk and waited about 15 minutes and were totally ignored, so they left. Poor management, short staffed food was mediocre at best. What a superb presentation! I normally eat about 1/2 my meal. I ate the whole thing! Medallions were tender to the fork. Vegetables were shaped so elegant. Mash potatoes were piped artistically! Immediately we were enamored with the spread of appetizers in the center of the room. I absolutely took advantage of it! Everything was tasty. For my entrée I opted for the chorizo. On Friday evening, 3/21/25 I ordered the grilled Octopus, and when it arrived it looked SPECTACULAR! However, it was just shy of rubber. Honestly, RUBBER..... Difficult to cut, and sooo chewy I was unable to eat any of it. I love grilled octopus, I've had it scores of times, I know how it should be. I ate the potatoes and vowed never to return. When our waiter, (who was the only waiter working an entire room filled with a birthday party and other regular patrons) scooped up my plate, after trying to flag him down for about 20 minutes, he simply apologized and continued with trying to work the filled room by himself. I've dined at places that served food somewhat 'under-par' but was still edible and easily tolerable. This grilled octopus was not edible.... How a chef could send it out of the kitchen to a customer is disappointing. I paid, but will never return. read more

Haven't been there in about a year and thought I would try it again. Our server Carlos was very attentive and professional and did a great job taking care of us. We ordered the shrimp with garlic and it was very bland but a good amount of shrimp. We got the paella with extra chorizo and lobster. The chorizo was grey and dark with no flavor. The chicken looked like bone in chicken wings. It was lacking the Spanish paella coloring and flavor. Desserts were acceptable. It's a shame this place has gone down. The service was wonderful, the decor was nice. The food was amazing. The stuffed mushroom, the chicken and vegetables were delicious. The mushrooms were stuffed with crab meat. The salad was fresh and the balsamic dressing was so tasty. The pasta was also yummy, it had olives but it wasn't pitted and it had small mozzarella balls and the dressing on the pasta salad was very tasty and complemented the salad. Restaurant has been open for over 10 years, we got lucky, we went on what turned out to be Lobster specials night, Wednesdays. Huge inside with lovely decor, nice spacing between tables, large room for private affairs. Delicious Portuguese and Spanish dishes, featuring great seafood Paella or Maricadas in salsa Verde. Comparable to the good Spanish restaurants in the Iron Bound section in Newark and Perth Amboy! We absolutely loved the Mariscada in green sauce and the Island tropical fruit shrimp dish. Appetizers were plentiful, we ordered the Chorizo and calamari, it turned out to be, too much food. Take home is expected, given the amount of food they serve. We went there last night for dinner. My girlfriend ordered the flank steak which she had ordered there before. This time, the steak had grizzle throughout. The server apologized for the inconvenience and asked if she wanted to order the same item again she declined and the server then recommended the filet mignon as a substitute. My girlfriend agreed and the steak was wonderful. When we were given the bill, we were charged $58.00 for the steak. The flank steak costs $31.00. We both expected the bill to reflect the cost of the flank steak. Instead, it cost us $28.00 more because of there mistake. I'm a bit confused by the negative reviews. We've passed SPG a bunch of times and have been tempted to go in. But I must be honest, we were a bit put off by the negative reviews. Despite the reviews, we opted to give a try. We decided on a Thursday night which happened to be steak and live music night. Upon entering, the place is nice, clean and open. A single singer was in the corner singing various American and Latin music, it was a nice touch. Our waiter Ricardo approached us and provided menus. He opened our bottle of wine (BYOB) and asked if we needed anything else. He was attentive to us start to finish. We ordered For Apps: Fried calamari Sliced potatoes w cheese (think nachos using potatoes) For entrees: Porterhouse steak Brazilian steak (I forget name of cut) Shrimp in green sauce Pulpo (octopus) We were all happy, steak was really cooked nice. We had dinner on Mother's Day, my wife and myself. I hate to say it, but it was a total disappointment. Service was terrible, 3.25 hr. most of it was sitting waiting for a waiter. The place was full and yet there were only three service people, who had to wait on tables and also clear them. The food was not close to the quailty we usually get. And the price was way over the top. Over two hundred dollars for two people. I had the shrimp Verdi, got six shrimp and the sauce was as thick as paste. We will probably return, but one more time like this and we will not go back. We dine there often; it is our go to Special Restaurant. The food is always great, and the quality of the food is the tops. I am hoping that the restaurant can hire more help and give good quality food for the price. Calamari were ok and not tentacles which means most of the time they are frozen not fresh, potatoes were a bit burnt and lacking flavor and barely any chorizo( found only a few little bits). I have flank steak which was tender but ok. I tasted the paella and was lacking flavor and clams were gritty. Sangria was a rip off $30 for a pitcher which was mostly ice and a few little tiny pieces of apple and orange. Was very disappointed. Food lacks flavor and way overpriced. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, they are pretty good two medium mushrooms,also we had calamari that was ok....the soup our entree came with white bean and cabbage delish!
