We had a reservation New Year's Eve. Arrived on time and sat down right away. Good cocktails. My husband liked the fried calamari because he liked the sweet and spicy dipping sauce. I like a crispier fried coating and more tender inner texture - I had sushi for dinner, two special rolls. Would have liked more of a variety of selections. The servers and staff were excellent. I'm a bit stunned having just spent $157 on some sushi and chinese food. Yes the service was attentive, the view was awesome and the food was very tasty. My husband and I each had two drinks (2 beers/2 glasses Chardonnay). We shared the sashimi nachos and spicy girl roll. Both delicious. My husband had the Kung po chicken and I went with the sesame chicken. We both replaced the white rice for fried rice and that was an $8 upcharge. I think that's a bit unreasonable, no?!I I would've stuck with white rice. My portion was large though and I took more than half home. All in all the food was great. We went on a Friday night and were seated at a high top outside (which I highly recommend). There was also live music which was a nice surprise. I tipped singer too. To be honest I just tried Shogun last week for the first time and this place is hands down one of the best places to go in Ocean County. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive to our needs. The food was awful!! My husband got Chilean sea bass and it was extremely fishy. The broccoli was hard. My general Cho chicken didn't taste right !! Worst meal ever!!! Eight of us went for dinner on Christmas Eve. It was the first time for all of us. What a pleasant evening we had. It may have been the first time we were there but it sure won't be the last!!! Ordered the Volcano Steak Special which was good, really spicy, served with broccoli underseasoned, the Hibachi Style Filet mignon, a little on tough side and coated in a very sweet sauce, and a specialty shrimp sushi roll very good and fresh. Tried the molten lava cake and the guava mango cheesecake for dessert, both okay, but not homemade. Priced fairly but definitely lacking the flavors of authentic stuff...not quite spicy for some dishes, a little too sweet on others and menu was a random mix of sushi, Chinese and Thai. I went to shogun with my Grandfather for dinner while visiting. I am going to start with the good and work to the bad. The food was very good, I had tried the seafood dried rice and got the pad thai for dinner. That were both delicious. We had ordered a few rolls each and they were all on par. The food was overall pretty great. Here is where things went bad. My grandfather had called to make a reservation for the hibachi. To our surprise when we walked in they try to seat us at a table, we had told the waiter that we had a reservation for the hibachi. He told us that they still do hibachi but they just cook it in the back now. I was rather flabbergasted by this comment sitting at a normal table and ordering food is something that can be done at any Asian joint, places that have hibachi distinguish themselves buy being able to sit around a table and have a chef make everything for you, it's the hibachi experience. Being disappointed that I couldn't get what I had come here for I settled for the pad Thai, which was very good, but I thought it was deceitful to agree to a reservation for hibachi, I guess I didn't say specifically at a hibachi table, and to not say that you don't have it anymore. In all honest this took a star off my review alone. Other issues we had involved the seating, we were sitting next to the windows, not our choice, not a bad seat. Half way through our meal another family had come in to sit next to us, and asked to waiter to open the blinds, which he did, which happened to let that golden hour sunshine right in, which was rather annoying for having to squint, the family next to use were rather toolish and just put on their sunglasses. We said something to the wait even if they just dimmed them slightly but they just told us they wanted to look out onto the golf course. Love this place normally, great food great staff. Booked a reservation for my anniversary for 7pm on a Monday, 2 weeks in advance. We get to the restaurant only to find the doors locked and the phone ringing inside. We look online to see that they are closed Mondays so now we are left hungry and scrambling to find somewhere else to eat. Very disappointed! read more

This place has a really nice ambience. But truthfully the food is just ok. Not great. It's run by non Asians. Even the Sushi is prepared by non Japanese. The quality of the fish was subpar. The avocado in the sushi roll was already browning. Given the location in south jersey it is probably considered pretty good. But relatively speaking it is not that good to get 4 stars sadly. The Chilean sea bass also did not taste fresh. It was a bit chewy. Good Chilean sea bass should be flaky and melt in your mouth.
