Being Portuguese I was super excited to find Brasas so close to where I was staying! I don't know if there was inside dining prior to Covid but right now it seems that it is primarily take out. The minute I walked in my mouth started watering from all the deliciousness. We ordered a whole chicken with rice and spanish potatoes (resemble chips). The portions were very generous and it was piping hot! Right when I took my first bite I was transported back to my childhood. The chicken was cooked perfectly and super juicy. The sauce has just the right about of kick to it. Sides were spot on as well. I just wish they had Sumol de Ananas!!! Seriously though, Brasas is a 10/10 for me. read more

Tonight, September 13th we went and ordered a full order of chicken with garlic, rice and potatoes.... I spent 19.00 plus .75 for using my credit card. When I arrived home, I opened the containers to find I spent 20.00 dollars for 2 pieces of chicken, soggy fries and rice. I called the store, thinking I received a half order and the owner apologized and said a full order is 2 chicken breast ( thinly sliced). I said thank you...two visits and done... Brasas is definitely the best BBQ joint in town. Their food is just delicious. As a cook, I could never make their food myself. They BBQ everything in cages over a real charcoal grill. Their sides are all good, and you have a choice of two. This is Toms River, so it's very nice to have an offbeat restaurant here and not just a pizza place. It's just not the Ironbound or real barbecue in Kansas, so I have nothing to compare it to. I know I dislike pizza outside of New Jersey. It's best to choose either the ribs or the chicken dinner. Another exciting find in Toms River. Chicken, ribs, wings, sausage etc cooked over open coals? Yeah ok! We called and ordered on New Year's Eve, although we had driven by we had not yet ventured in. We decided to order a full chicken platter with yellow rice and French fries. We also ordered a full platter of baby back ribs, Spanish fries (chips) and yellow rice. We pulled up in front to the wonderful aroma of meat cooking, the aroma filled the air, it was amazing. We walked in to a small place, a few small tables on the side, a couple beverage fridges and a counter. Behind the counter was the rotisserie with butterflied chicken cooking and the small was much more wonderful inside. Two large trays of food was roughly $37. We took the platters home, it fed four of us easily, we all went back for 2nds and 3rds and there was leftover. The rice was perfect and really tasty, fries were fries, the chips, despite being in a steamy tray were still crisp and clearly home made. The ribs were very tender and flavorful, the sauce they put on them I could put in my coffee it was so damn good. If I have any issues, it was the chicken, although I asked for well done, it was pink near the bone, which is a deal breaker for me. read more

So I came here on a recommendation from my uncle who claimed this place is as good as it gets. Loving BBQ and hearing their ribs are particularly good. I decided i had to try it when i was in the area next. Fortunately for me that was last week. I came in and ordered their rib platter with rice and beans for take out, they told me it would take about 15 minutes so i went out to my car and just read a bit while i waited. When i picked up the order I wasn't sure if the platter i ordered was for one person or an army. When i got home and opened it up I notice 3 well portioned sized ribs a container of beans and about a gallons worth of rice. Which is about 16 cups, sadly I ate most of it because it was so damn good. All in all I would come back her in a heartbeat if I was in the area. read more

You gotta have their whole or half chicken! It's got amazing flavor, the only way to make it better is if they made it spicy! If you've ever traveled to the UK and ate at Nando's this is pretty close! This place is mostly a takeout place, great for catering or taking food home for the family. I've had their whole roasted chicken and their ribs. The ribs are fine but their chicken was amazing I'll be back for more. As for sides I've had their Spanish Fries, potatoes w/peppers, and black beans. The Potatoes with peppers are great! the Spanish fries are like potato chips (pretty good) , their beans aren't bad but nothing special. Everything is good. Grew up in Essex county where we were spoiled with access to great Portuguese BBQ all the time. My personal favorites are the chicken and ribs, the rice,fries and veggies are great sides. Everything is grilled over charcoal and it's delicious. Also they're super friendly and they usually have some type of Portuguese sodas. A full order is large and you won't mind having leftovers but they offer half orders too. Each time I have called to place an order I hear business going in the background and then I'm told that it's too late to order that they're closing in 10 minutes. We have tried calling at different times and still it's always they're closing in 10 minutes and cannot take an order. The homemade sauce is fabulous and I slathered it on . Got some to go along with a grilled chicken sandwich for my wife. She demolished it in short order. I said you just advertise one thing and then charge another. That is FRAUD. The food wasn't that great either. The place was fantastic. I originally called and was placed on hold..was checking to see if they offered delivery. Well he placed the phone down and all i could hear was talking and orders being taken.for eight minutes i linger i hang up call back i ask if they deliver..he says not today lol..so i say screw it ill take the drive..well i pull up and in the parking lot i can smell the food im instantly interested i approach the counter and say i would like a whole chicken with two sides..he looks at the guy running the pit he nods ..then says what else so i order the full rack of ribs with two sides he looks at the pit boss again and nods .then he looks up and says to the line that formed behind me and says we are sold out ..lol wow was i lucky well the line is walking out and people saying see ya tomorrow..i knew this was gonna be good..the customers who are regulars didnt mind evidently this is the norm.the staff was friendly talkative and a joy ..i was asking questions on their methods of cooking and taking pics ..driving home all i could smell was the food..i got home and the family tore into this culinary festival.. i will be back..again and again great food great service extremely happy i just went there instead of basing on a phone call..they were busy but treated everyone there with joy read more

What is this ? Heard the stylists squealing over the delish eats next door. while I got foiled Had no idea there was a Portuguese place next door. I have to say it was some top food. My friend and I split the Picadinho and it was super good. You can see over the counter they are slow roasting the meats which they chop up and serve with some pretty good black beans. Guys behind the counter are super cool and (super cute) but seriously, all in all, this is a fantastic little spot with some good, pocket friendly eats. read more

I first noticed Brasas several months ago when I stopped in for bagels at NY Water Bagel. Portugese BBQ? My interest was piqued. When my wife informed me that she could be easily persuaded to forsake her P90x2 regimen for the evening, I decided that we'd give Brasas a shot. So we packed up the kiddos and headed over. Walking up the the storefront, you are immediately bathed in the sweet inscense of meat cooked over hot coals. Yeah, my mouth was watering. It obviously isn't INTENDED to be a sit-down place. 3-4 tables crammed into a very small space. However the glorious aromas coming from the kitchen does wonders to minimize the lack of seating. I ordered the 1/2 chicken, 1/2 rack of rib platter with spanish fries & rice. First, the platters are HUGE. Plan on taking half home. Man... that's BBQ done right. Savory... just spicy enough... and (mostly) fall off the bone tender. The spanish fries were addictive. The rice... well... it was rice. The Mrs. had the sirloin steak sandwich and black beans. When I asked how it was (she was at a different table... poor seating), she gave me an enthusiastic thumbs up. No comment on the beans tho. As for the kids, all they were interested in was the chicken fingers. Now, I often think that a place that can do a good job on a kid's meal gets extra credit. These chicken fingers were great! Bravo, Brasas. My only real "complaint" is that the counter guy switched the TV to Family Guy right after I came in with my kids. Not the wisest move. Will I be going back? I think so. Average for a Portuguese Churrasco, but for locals this is a great alternative to pizza, Italian, and fish. We ordered mixed meats and grilled chicken platters. The chicken was grilled perfectly, and the meats were tasty but had some elbows and gristly bits. The rice side was very small, but they got the black beans right. The fries were soggy but they soaked up the greasy goodness. I guess for Toms River this is superior, but it would be about average in Newark. My Wife and I debated this, and my rationale is that I have to compare Brasas against the best churrasco I've eaten; against that measure this is average. -C read more

Very disappointed. Saw the reviews. We ordered and waited and waited. The place is lacking in a woman's touch. Think prison kitchen. Kind of dirty and lacking in the details that make you want to stay and eat. We took ordered and took the food to go. The bill for lunch for two came to $30. NOT CHEAP! I ordered the mixed picadinho grill which had chicken, chorizo, and shrimp. There were literally 4 shrimp and they were overcooked and mushy. The chicken was OK. A bit dry but nothing to be excited about. The "platter" was a big greasy mass of oily potatoes, mixed meats, and mushy french fries that were probably frozen. We ordered a mixed salad for $4.00. I opened it. It was simply iceberg lettuce with onions and NO DRESSING! Even worse, the lettuce was rotten! It was grey and slimy. GROSS. We won't go back. The stars you see on YELP are ridiculous. Who rates this place so highly? Are we even talking about the same place. Most of the food went in the trash. No lie. It was that bad. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is the chorizo sandwich we ordered was edible. It was the only thing that we actually ate. YUCK. read more

We order from them at least 4 times a week and normally all is good but tonight was different. Delivery was over 1 hour and when it got here it was wrong. No sauce with meal. Picadinho sandwich was half the size as normal. Bag was leaking whatever sauce it had on the chicken platter. Not only is Brasas the only churrascaria place in the Toms River/Brick area, it's pretty good. The cornerstone of any good churrasco take-out is the quality of the ribs and chicken, so no disappointments there. The also offer sweet potato fries and for a Churrasco menu, that's new and different - and it works! Brasas is a tad bit greasier than some churrascarias I've sampled in the past, so I wouldn't recommend frequent dining here if you have some health problems. But an occasional stop on the way home from the shore here is worth it. I've read some complaints about seating, but Brasa's is a take-out, as are many churrascarias. So if you're looking to eat party style or eat out with a big group, rent a hall and get them to cater, or better yet, hit the bay and bring some plates and drinks. read more

I used Brasas to cater my son's baptism reception for 20 people and they did a fantastic job. They were courteous and helpful on the phone when I was figuring out what I wanted to order and what time I needed them to deliver. On the day of the baptism party, they were on time, food arrived hot, and everything was delicious. My family is a mix of Haitians and Nigerians and they all praised the food. We especially liked the ribs and the sweet potato fries! Felt like a home-cooked meal. I would definitely order from here again and highly recommend! read more
