I met Dave almost 3 years ago and decided for the first time in my life to get help in trying to achieve my weight loss and fitness goals. Hiring Dave as my personal trainer was one of the best things I could have done for myself. I feel better now than I have ever felt as far as fitness is concerned. I have always battled with my weight. In 2010 when I first started with Dave I weighed 275 pounds and was very out of shape. I was afraid to get back into exercise because I didn't want to injure myself. I have learned so much in the last 3 years with Dave. He is so knowledgeable in his field and very current. He never stops learning. He is very supportive, encouraging, a great motivator and always positive. Most importantly to me, he is always honest. He makes me feel comfortable and he is easy to talk to. Even on my lowest days, (we all have them), he pushes me more than I could ever push myself and I feel so much better after our sessions. I have had my personal setbacks during the last 3 years, but I am currently 234 and have gone from a size 24 to a size 16-18. I still have more to lose, but I feel incredible compared to what I used to feel like. I have muscles in places I thought I would never see them!! Its so exciting to see my body changing. It motivates me to want to keep going and not stop, no matter how long it takes. Dave works with my fitness level and is always careful about body mechanics. I never feel unsure or unsafe. Dave continues to push and motivate me. One of my greatest challenges is being consistent with my diet. We are working on food logging, and increasing the frequency of my workouts. I have been training with Dave for nearly 3 years. I initially started with the stress that I was working full time and about to start graduate school at night. I did not want to gain weight while having such limited free time. During my 2 1/2 year graduate program I lost 10 pounds, lost 2 pant sizes and gained lean muscle. This was not the case for many of my classmates who gained 15-20 pounds during our program due to the long days at work followed by long nights if class and weekends full of group projects. Dave was extremely supportive during this time encouraging a healthy lifestyle through eating right and exercising. Although always eating right (especially food logging) has been a challenge for me, Dave has encouraged me to keep at it an be more aware of the decisions I make. Dave has not only helped me become more physically fit but mentally fit. He helps me channel stress and frustrations in my personal life through my workouts, my favorite being ball slams. Dave is extremely knowledgeable about what exercises should be working which muscles and is a stickler for having correct form in order to prevent injury. I have a persistent back problem (unrelated to the gym) and Dave is flexible with his workout routines where he easily adapts exercises if I feel any strain in my back. Now that school ended two months ago, I am working on losing that last 10 pounds to hit and maintain my goal weight in preparation for my upcoming wedding. David and Cindy are as good as it gets. I am so happy I found Spark Fitness! I will never make the mistake of not investing in myself and my health again. Our health and wellness is simply the most important thing to maintain--without it, we have nothing. I began work with David in January 2013 after nine months of treatment (chemo and radiation) for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was supportive, professional, prepared and always put safety and form first in his workouts. He has an intuitive nature of motivating his clients and finding their edge safely. He is extremely knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition, but never intimidating or pushy. Following treatment, I'd lost all but a little of my muscle and was very weak. After 3 months of two-days-a-week workouts with David, my energy level and muscle tone had increased and I was on my way to my pre-cancer frame, only this time with much more strength. I tell people that David brought me back to life! He treats his clients like partners and works with schedules, dietary limitations and physical conditions.
