After over a decade living in OK, I finally visited this Stillwater destination restaurant. It…read morelived up to its reputation as a special place. I came to Stillwater on a work trip with 5 other people. It was a Tuesday just before noon. We were quoted an accurate 10 - 15 minute wait time. That gave us time to browse the gift shop before we sat down at our table on the second floor. We had a nice view of the campus and the bar across the street. It was a bit loud in there due to the music and many other guests, but we carried on our lunch table conversation without any trouble. I ordered Joe's Classic with lettuce, tomato, and pickles. It was a solid charbroiled burger -- a step up from Burger King because of the thickness of the patty and because it had a buttered toasted bun. A little ketchup and mustard was all that it needed. For my side order, I got the coleslaw. Overall, not bad. It was served cold and had little bits of carrot and red cabbage for color and extra crunch. The dressing was not overly sweet and had a runny consistency that I liked. However, I prefer a coleslaw dressing with more vinegar than in their recipe. We ordered some of the famous cheese fries to share as a table. They were delicious! I like that they cut their fries in-house, and their custom fry seasoning was delicious. No extra salt or pepper needed!

We were brought here by folks who claimed it was very famous in these parts. To be sure, the place…read moreis BIG with an extensive array of souvenirs and logo tagged tee shirts. The day was warm so the AC was up inside. We were seated however, on a second floor, open porch. Thank goodness for the large, iced, cold glasses of water! I ordered Chicken chili and a Black Bean Burger with everything on it (pickle, tomato and lettuce). The rest of the party received their appetizers, and main dishes. I waited, and waited while the server attended to guests being seated at other tables. When my sandwich arrived it was cold and dry. Way disappointing. The chili though, was hot and delicious, especially with the shredded cheddar I received on the side. I guess it was a busy time of day, or that our server was a bit overwhelmed and unorganized, but I won't be returning any time soon for a cold, dry burger.

I don't believe that I have ever had a bad meal at any restaurant that had the name "Granny" in it…read more Granny's Kitchen did not disappoint. Located on the SE corner 7th and Main St. in downtown Stillwater, in a nicely remodeled brick building. Inside, the restaurant is smartly decorated in a modern décor mixed with a connection to the past. Between the tee shirts that are for sale, historical pictures and a few artifacts representing rural farm life hang on the walls. In a few areas of the walls, the original brick work is exposed, but masked with a coat of paint. The building's true age shows through the makeup. The chaotic conglomeration of bricks testify that masonry skills and craftsmanship were not required of the builder, when the original structure was erected. Building codes likely not in vogue either. A work of historical beauty. On street parking. And directly behind the restaurant, on the east side, is a parking lot. On a busy weekend parking could be a challenge. Somewhat of a tourist attraction. Souvenirs for the out of towners are prominently on display for purchase. A bar is available to help celebrate yesterday's team victory or numb the pain of defeat. Patio seating is available. Breakfast was perfect. My usual. The picture describes the food. The friendly attentive wait staff keeps your coffee cup full. What else can I say it's, "Granny's" Kitchen.

I told the server it was my first time, and she recommended a great meal and gave me a cinnamon roll. Warm and sticky. The meals are large; they said they make them large because it's a college town, and they want to give the kids leftovers. The restaurant is in the downtown area, with plenty of parking. Although the restaurant seems to be a chain, the staff and the food were excellent, so give it a shot. I would absolutely come back.
