Since each Kinokuniya is basically its own franchise, every store has a different vibe. This one leans more toward stationery and gifts than a huge selection of Japanese books or magazines. It's a great date spot, but not really the place to dig for rare anime or manga collectibles. The space is smaller than some of the other LA locations, and with Animate nearby, they don't carry every item you might expect. If you want something specific, just order ahead and use their buying service--it's the move.

Thanks to Yelp, this spot was just 5 minutes away, and I was even able to wrap my gift while in the store! I was so thankful. I also had my one year old grand daughter with me, and she also felt welcome and found the toy selection to be very appealing! She picked out a cute little toy that had to come home with us. The selection is not quite the same as Card de A, but it is still nicer than going to a chain store and you're also supporting small business! After taking some pictures we took a look at the store. It's actually a cute little gift shop. They have lots of beach themed items such as cards, candles, and shirts. They already had some really cute Christmas ornaments for sale. We ended up walking out with a soft and comfy tee. A bonus is that the shop owner is really sweet and often gives treats to my dog. I hope to come back soon to check out other items that would make cute and funny Christmas gifts.
