Purchased tickets one week in advance for a 2:00 PM showing at Sparta Theatre, only to arrive and find the theater never opened. When I contacted the owner, instead of receiving an apology or explanation, I find him very dismissiveness. Completely unacceptable customer service and a very disappointing experience. If you sell tickets for a scheduled showing, the bare minimum expectation is that the doors are open 4:30 P.M. After a very disappointing initial experience at Sparta Theatre, I returned to request a refund and was helped by a young man at the counter who completely restored my faith in the theater. He was professional, courteous, and provided outstanding customer service while processing my refund. He should absolutely be recognized for the way he handled the situation. Employees like that make a lasting impression. read more

Went to see a scheduled movie today. The man behind the counter said come back tomorrow (not in English so we had trouble figuring out what he was saying)." He kept saying manyana?? There were people in line that purchased tickets online today for the same show. No customer service. read more

This theater has never disappointed me. Recently re-opened after the pandemic had the theater close down for two and a half years, the theater has now been upgraded to where you can now charge your phones in the leather rocker seats that also has adjustable levels of heat along with new snacks such as White Castle burgers for example and other upgrades. This place has been a favorite of mine since moving here in 2010 and seeing it come back and doing so well in the age of streaming especially has me very happy. The only minor downside is that there's no longer a 5.00 Tuesday anymore and the ticket prices are a little more steep than what your average AMC ticket would be. But besides that, this place remains a favorite of mine and I can not wait to bring my son here in the future to share the experience with. read more

Filthy. What the heck is going on? Does no one clean this theater???! Popcorn and trash everywhere. The women's bathroom were absolutely disgusting. Old filth too, like no cleaning for months. Completely unacceptable. Especially for Sparta. I would comment on women who leave bathroom is filthy, but who in the world would want to sit on those seats anyway?! It was so gross that we didn't even get food as we weren't sure when anything in the concession stand was cleaned last and were so grossed out and disgusted by the shape of the theatre, that we had a bottle of water each. There is no excuse for this state of this theatre. What a shame too, because I have gone to the Sparta theatre since I was seven years old (my first movie was Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) and the renovation was so nice we thought. Also - We were made to wait outside by the elevator with no idea why the door wasn't open, no sign and not a clue what was going on until someone finally came out and opened the door. There were at least 12 others with no idea why why were sandwiched in the small space. The staff sure wasn't cleaning! This theatre is in such bad shape and so disgusting that we will drive to Rockaway or Ledgwood from now on. read more

My biggest complaint is that the light sconces along the walls are too bright. The one in the front bleeds light onto the screen. A quarter of the image is obliterated. I'd like a quarter of my money back. Today, I asked a friend to come to the Sparta Theater with me, and he said no because the lights ruins the film. We're off to the Rockaway AMC. read more

Absolutely filthy and unmanaged. We went to a 7:15 showing that had three teenage staff playing on their phones behind the snack counter, the entered a theater that had obviously not been cleaned at all that day after other showings. Popcorn and garbage everywhere, stinking of spilled food and the theater door left open with light coming in from the hallway for the first half of the movie. I will drive the extra 20 mins to AMC Rockaway going forward. read more

Tucked in to the basement of the large building in the middle of Theatre Center is the actual Sparta Theatre. When they were building this place it was hard to imagine how it was all going to work. And when word came out that it was going to be a three screen theater, I just thought they were crazy. But it works. You go down the steps or take the elevator down to the basement and you're greeted with the snack stand/ticket counter. It's actually a very welcoming walk down the stairs, descending into the smell of movie popcorn isn't so bad. There are three theaters: one medium, one small and one tiny. You're not going to get the big mega plex viewing experience, but the sound is good, the chairs (with cup holders) are comfortable, and the screens fit the theaters well. read more

I took the family to see a movie here today. The venue was interesting when I first got to the door. (Walked down a few flights of stairs) I was in concessions. I thought maybe I walked in the exit or something. Each person ordered their snacks and purchased or show their tickets to that same employee. The theaters are small this came as a nice shock! I'm use to the very large, loud and cold theaters. This was small, pleasantly cool, and the volume was great for the size of the room. Just over all felt the theater was dated. read more

Rude and incorporative staff. A women rudely kicked me out because I was in the wrong theater!!! I had not even done that on purpose was just genuinely confused and walked into the wrong one. THEN I was not even afforded a refund! Needless to say I will never be returning. read more

This is a small theatre and we only use it to take young grandchildren to their movies. Its the only theatre in Sussex County so its convenient. As I saw in a previous review it is staffed by young kids, which is typically a job for the kids in high school. My problem is the same as the other review....those stupid cell phones. I don't understand why managers don't ban them while someone is working with the threat of firing if they are seen with them. The kids today can't stay off of them for 2 minutes and nothing makes me more angry then thinking I am disturbing the employee by interrupting their phone time just to get popcorn. The theatre is ok for kids' movies, or if you want to stay local. Just up the supervision on your employees and put the phones in a locker! read more

If I could give negative stars I would! I just left Beauty and the Beast they had the volumes all off that you couldn't hear the singing some of the talking was over shadowed by the music. The lights in the theater were never dimmed which was distracting. It was an absolutely horrible experience!!! I'm glad this the second time I was seeing the movie so I already was in love with it, but the same couldn't be said for the rest of my group. I have already told others to avoid this theater if wanting to see this movie. I will never go to Sparta theater again! read more
