One time, incredible Butternut Squash soup with homemade bread, yesterday an warm olive spread on pita. Great start. Last night we split the seasonal salad, a great side with Brussels sprouts and potatoes (sort of like home fries, but much better). What a lovely spot in East Rockaway! The staff is super friendly, the cocktails delicious, and the food fresh and delicious. Who could ask for more? Upon being seated we were given a delicious complementary appetizer- pita topped flavorful chicken salad that also had a beautiful presentation. I ordered the lavender reign cocktail... wow, I wish I ordered another one. It was well balanced with lavender and beautiful to look at! My friend and I shared the Spanish meatballs to start - full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The owner Frank is so nice ! Very knowledgeable about craft cocktails. The bartender was also very friendly as well and made exquisite drinks. Came here on a date, the ambiance was cool, they had football on and the place was busy since it's the Wildcard games; parking is convenient. You wouldn't think you were in Rockaway at all. Drinks were good, had the Carajillo, which is the Mexican Espresso Martinis. read more

Great place hidden in East Rockaway! Have been here twice and have loved it. Both times I have shared dishes with my lady friends which is always fun because you can try a bunch of things. Here are some definite items to get (though all things are delicious!: - whipped ricotta - bacon wrapped dates - rice balls - crispy rice - sliced hangar steak (and the rice is fantastic which comes with!!) Cocktails are also beautiful and delicious. Frank truly cares about the diners experience and check's in on feedback and home the experience and service is going :) Service is always nice and timely (but not rushed!) The food was delicious we had the crispy rice with spicy tuna as a starter, my wife had the mussels and I had the burger everything was perfect! I made reservation and added that my wife and I were on a date night in the comments which is something that I find over looked at most restaurants but not speak easy they notice and brought champagne and a free app to the table in celebration! Frank the owner was great explaining the menu and drinks HE CREATED! Was very attentive and told his story of his experiences and how speak easy came to be which added to the experience. What a find! My new favorite restaurant in Lynbrook / East Rockaway. A terrific Tapas menu with a mix of seafood, poultry, beef and vegetarian options. I loved the crispy rice with spicy tuna and the kung pao dumplings, along with the local beers on tap from nearby South Shore Brewery; I had ab orange wheat ale and a porter. This place is LOVELY! The drinks were great, the menu has a bunch of cocktails, wines, they have a full bar, the bartender was so nice and very willing to accompany drink changes. They gave these complimentary crostini with tomato and parm, so fresh and tasty. We sat at the bar but they also have a full dining area. We've driven by this restaurant a number of times and realized that the sign recently changed as it re-opened as Speak Easy Tapas Bar late Spring. Well, yesterday we made a wise decision and stopped in for dinner. The owner and staff were extremely pleasant, friendly and attentive. The owner really cared about how much we enjoyed our selections and discussed future seasonal additions to the menu. We started with Chicken Spring Rolls- big winner. The Monkfish special looked great but I was in the mood for a great burger. The Speak Easy Burger was a Great Burger featuring a perfect mix of beef's. Mussels were swimming in a unique Saffron cream sauce. If you order it- and you should- you may need extra bread to soak up every drop of sauce. Desserts feature star items from Whistle Stop. Finished this great meal with a generous slice of Chocolate Cake. Full bar. Plenty of street parking. Really nice people who appreciate customers. Going back soon. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. Great selection of cocktails. Food was phenomenal and fairly priced for what was offered. Rice balls were soft and cheesy with the perfect crispness on the outside. Fruit salad was fresh and refreshing. Fried chicken was on point with a sweet and just enough spice glaze. I'm not much of a French fry person but these were some of the best I've had- soft inside, crispy outside with some skin on it and perfectly salted. Frank chatted with us a bit about his "little black book" of drink recipes and brought us out a bottle of champagne for our celebration- which was a very nice touch and not expected at all. You could see he has a lot of passion in what he does. I'm very excited to sample some more of his creations and interested in his homemade bitters. The beginning of an amazing experience was with Jackie. She greeted us warmly, informed us of specials, and that there would be live music tonight (Thursday). Our server, Sophia was delightful and attentive throughout our entire meal. She checked on us to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Frank, who I believe is the manager, (owner?) sat with us for a moment to chat. This is our first visit, so he made sure we were comfortable. We were treated to an amuse-bouche gratis which was so delicious. The bacon-wrapped dates were a great start. The hanger steak with fried rice which had a nice "kick" to it was well made. My husband had the salmon dish which was very moist with great flavors. Compliments to the bartender who made a version of an espresso martini but with Licor 43 which is hard to find. Delicious! They will also offer non-alcoholic drinks. The restaurant is styled beautifully, with comfortable seating. Suffice it to say, we will be back! I need to apologize for not including photos of our experience at Speakeasy. I promise to make up for it next time. I was very impressed by the food, service and ambiance. Frank and his staff were friendly, attentive and we had great conversation. We opted for the Special - truffle fries and salad with unlimited prosecco. They started us off with an amuse bouche of a whipped feta on fresh handmade pita that was decadent and delicious. The truffle fries were perfectly seasoned and didn't need any ketchup. I really enjoyed the dressing on our salad which paired perfectly with the fries. My wife and I had the blood orange, blackberry, mango, watermelon and passion fruit proseccos which were all amazing. The fresh fruit puree makes such a difference when mixing drinks and the bartenders use only fresh and in house made syrups, purees and bitters! We then ordered the mussels which came with more of the warm, fresh and so flavorful pita bread. We devoured that quickly and switched out from the prosecco to their cocktails. I am a die hard bourbon fan and the Quiet Professional is now my favorite cocktail. My wife paired the mussels with their choice of Sancere which was crisp and complemented the mussels perfectly. Frank spoke with us in depth and after learning about his in house infused rums, bitter and bourbons, we will definitely be back to try everything else on the menu. The fish tacos were good and the Butcher Steak was an excellent cut cooked to order. The steak was tender and the salad was fresh. The dressing was different and refreshing. Overall everything from the fries to waitress was exactly what I look for in a restaurant experience. This bussiness really cares about the local community.
