Today I visited Raíces Boricua in Oceanside, and let me just say--this place does NOT disappoint! From the appetizers to the entrees, every bite was packed with flavor. I had dinner at Raices Boricuas, I ordered an amazing amount of sides that included empanada, potato ball beef, corn fitters, fried green plantains and sweet plantains no way I was getting to the entree's. but I did the roast pork came and it was go time. However the pigs feet stew even tho it was very tasty all I got was one piece of pigs feet bone with about a half inch piece of meat on it , we also ordered roasted chicken that was honestly the worst chicken I've had! Dry , bland and just had that microwaved feel to it . As far as drinks go they do have a beautiful bar with every drink you would want but drinks are very small and pricey! I know times are hard but you have to find that right balance between price and portion sizes, they really need to find that balance and I hope they do ! We ordered 2 goat dinners, one of the protein containers consisted of many bones and very little meat and the other had mostly carrots, potatoes and hardly any meat. Wow...as a Puertorican woman, I can honestly say that my experience was a total bust. The food was horrible! The alcapurrias (both beef & crab) were greasy and tasteless. The same holds true for the bacalaitos... one big greasy mass! It did not resemble the light and airy salt-cod fritters I know and love! The white rice was oily as well. The shrimp stuffed tostones were good, but the pernil in the "tostones rellenos con pernil", had no flavor. Unfortunately, my stomach got upset from the little I ate. The authentic Puerto Rican food is great. The traditional dishes they have reminds me of the meals I had visiting family in Puerto Rico.

The pernil and mofongo was good just needed a tad bit more flavor the beef pattie was delicious but the potato ball had no flavor.

I did not like the taste of the food. That food does not represent the Puerto Rican seasoning at all. In addition, the dishes on a family table come out at different times and are poorly organized. read more
