Everything was great! The place is very open and I didn't feel squished in. There was a live band playing (Saturday). We started off of with the fig and bacon flatbread and that was so good. Then we had the monk fish special and half chicken entree. Both were out of this world. I also order a side of asparagus and it came out perfectly cooked. I felt like the food came from another country. Cheers to the amazing chef! Our server (Crystal) was very friendly and had a beautiful smile. I can't wait to come back here again. I highly recommend. Add this to another extremely middling and predictable restaurant in the area.Reservation was for 6 of us at 7, didn't get sat until 7:20. Place is extremely loud on a Saturday night, both packed to its very tiny brim and with live music blaring it was difficult to hear people at a table of 6. Waitress was extremely nice, but the service behind her was exceptionally slow. One item was already 86ed by the time we sat down (something as simple as chicken wings). Didn't get our drinks until around 7:45 and our apps until around a little after 8. Entrees didn't start arriving until after 8:30 and probably didn't finish arriving until a little closer until 9pm and some items were missing or incomplete. All in all they were able to execute on fairly simple dishes like fried artichoke bites and Caesar salads fine enough but struggled to even fry frozen seafood like shrimp and calamari well enough. This place might get a 3 on a lighter night where their kitchen isn't at capacity but based on what we experienced tonight a 2 is really being generous. read more

This is a nice restaurant to stop by after a day of hitting the beach. Servers greeted us politely and attended to our dietary restrictions well, answering all of our questions patiently. And the food was pretty decent over all. I highly recommend the shrimp and wild mushroom bucatini. It was close to perfect and just hit that pasta craving. I would come back to Long Beach just for it. It makes me curious to try their pesto pasta as well. I wish I could say the same for fall harvest flatbread, but when it came, it looked pretty underwhelming, especially for the price. My wife and I have been regular customers at Roc & Olive for a few years now. That was until tonight. A small, reasonable gesture by the manager could have kept us loyal to the restaurant. But, alas, that would not be the case. I ordered a flatbread without noticing that it came with blue cheese, which I can't eat. Honest mistake; it happens to all of us. But Roc & Olive wouldn't accommodate me - in the least. I'm told it was the manager who refused to let me replace it with another flatbread - without paying again. My wife and I were stunned, knowing how much money we have spent there in the years since we bought a house in Long Beach. Stinginess over a flatbread won the day. Came to eat at Roc & Olive on a weekend around lunch time. Weather was perfect and we decided to sit outside. Service was prompt, and the waitress was knowledgeable of the menu. I tried to go online to see the lunch menu to refresh my memory but couldn't find it on the website. I will try to do this from memory as best I can. We started off with drinks that where OK. Had a bourbon/rye drink that was good, not to much sweetness. My second drink was a rye m/ bourbon based drink they had blackberry in it I believe and I could hardly taste the liquor. Wasn't a fan of this. For an appetizer had a prosciutto flatbread that had good flavor but the balsamic dressing was a little to much and it left your fingers sticky and messy. For my lunch entree I had the chicken sandwich that actually was very good. Nice and crispy with a large piece of chicken and a tasty bun. No complaints here. The main reason for my 3/5 star rating was the bathroom. I always judge a restaurants cleanliness based on there bathroom. If they value hygiene the bathrooms should be taken care of. The men's bathroom here was gross. There was black dirt around the sink, the caulking around the faucet was moldy, the bathroom stall had no toilet paper with a broken toilet paper holder. Nice experience, set a few blocks from the beach. This is a good size restaurant, friendly staff, food was very good, and they have live acoustic music on Saturday nights. Our waiter Amanda was very outgoing, gave good recommendations and we were happy with our choices. Prices were good and all the food we ordered were good size portions. We started with the white sangria, Margarita flatbread which had a nice kick with the jalapeños on top. We also had the grilled octopus special which came with scalloped potatoes. For entrees we had the fall scallops with black eyed peas, carrots and chimichurri. We also had the shrimp and wild mushroom bucatini. The portion was so large I had to take almost half of it home. Both were excellent dishes, the dishes the bucatini for me with a red sauce instead of a cream sauce. We had a good time, it does get loud as it gets crowded at night. They are well staffed, have a big bar and seem like they aim to pleased. There are a lot of good choices in along Beach and I don't think you can go wrong here. read more

We've come here for years on & off & typically, the food is good, waiters friendly, etc. However we've had such negative experiences with the hostesses here! On one occasion we arrived with a baby in a car seat. With many tables open, the hostess seated us in a tiny corner, with no room to put the baby. There was no floor space, no room for high chair, nothing. It was literally impossible for us to sit there ( unless she wanted us to put the car seat ON our table) so we wound up just leaving. She didn't offer us any other options. Last night we decided to stop in, just two of us, to sit at the bar or outside if it was available. We waited for about 5 minutes for the hostess to even show up and greet us and she asked how could she help us. My husband said it was just the two of us, to which she replied "we are not seating anyone right now." The restaurant was not completely packed, & the bar was practically empty. We were not told any other details, as we would have happily sat at the bar and had a drink or two if the kitchen needed time to catch up. We would have even just sat and had a few drinks and then went somewhere else without an issue. We were not sure if we heard her correctly, so when we asked what she said, she repeated "we are not sitting anyone right now." Why did we wait 5 minutes for you to come talk to us? Why did you ask if you could help us? She seemed annoyed that we were even standing there so we just turned and walked out. I won't go back. **as stated previously, I would be totally understanding of a kitchen backup. Two piece acoustic classic rock added some nice ambiance. My expectations were exceeded by the quality of the food. Some type of featured rye cocktail was so nice I forgave the use of maraschinos. Appetizers were elevated pub food. Brie stuffed pretzels with fig jam were addictive, crispy cauliflower and the brussel(s) sprouts exemplars! There were about 4 entrees that piqued my interest. I went with the scallops which were ample, sweet, perfectly cooked. The blacked-eyed peas with lardons provided a great contrast in flavors and texture. The service was bad. I don't know if they were understaffed or what but had to catch the waiter several times just to get our drink order. We almost left after getting water because we thought they just forgot about us, we didn't get our drink until around 40 min after sitting down. The food was bland in my opinion, good enough to eat but not something I would recommend or go back for. The best part about this place was the ambiance. We sat outside and it was beautiful, flowers and umbrellas really create a nice space. Inside there was live music and a more upbeat vibe, it looked fun! This was my first time at roc and olive. I have been a local for a long time and I finally went to this restaurant and was very excited. When we first got in, we were not greeted by anyone because the hostess was very busy. She was not very personable, but I understood because it was a little bit busy. While we waited for a table, we were directed to the bar. The bartenders were absolutely wonderful and the drinks were so good. Once we finally sat down, we ordered chicken wings, pasta, and the chicken sandwich and everything came out quickly and absolutely delicious. However, the staff was so rude ...when we asked for extra items, our waitress gave us snotty answers. The dirty looks we got through the night were unacceptable. First the ambiance: both options, indoor and outdoor seating, are unbeatable. Indoor has a warm dining room filled with woven pendant lighting, wooden tables and a light and airy vibe.. as if you were dining aboard a ship. I can easily see myself dining here and losing all track of time; it's as if I was dining in a cozy living room! Outdoors has the same vibe and it's great to sit out and people watch. My friend and I decided to have a leisurely lunch before I departed Long Beach to head home :(. Roc and Olive provided a delicious send off. The menu has a plethora of delectable options: crispy salmon, pan seared chicken, shrimp and mushroom pasta, braised short ribs, NY strip steak, scallops.. there is something for everyone. We dined on a Tuesday which is Taco Tuesday: 3 tacos for $10 and also delicious choices: coconut shrimp, chorizo, braised short ribs.. and house or spicy Margaritas for $5. This also includes Corona. Of course I was in a Margarita mood and ordered a few.. the Margarita had a great kick and I was given extra lime from my great server Bridget. First course: we shared a chopped salad which comes with crumbled feta but we are not fans of this cheese so we substituted fontina, scrumptious! The salad portion was enough for two people to share: luscious tomatoes, onions, carrots, red peppers, cucumbers, zucchini atop fresh greens with a light white balsamic vinaigrette dressing..perfect grazing for a summer day. Rochelle ordered crispy skin salmon with cauliflower purée and broccolini in a light lemon and oil sauce. She loved it. I tasted it and found it a tad fishy. I ordered the pan seared chicken with rosemary roasted potatoes and string beans. ( haricot vert, for you fancy folks, lol!) The chicken was out of this world: crispy skin, moist and tender. I highly recommend! ( next time I want to try the porcini crusted tuna) As we were reviewing the dessert menu, the place was packed and unfortunately I had to catch my train and couldn't try any of the delicious choices. There will definitely be a next time for dessert... Which leaves me to say.. Roc and Olive you rock!!!!! Damn....people should really be talking more about Taco Tuesday's!! Last night, I took myself on a date to Roc & Olive and it was easily the best decision i've made all week. I decided to treat myself to a Sunset on Fire cocktail before even looking at the Taco menu. This cocktail was truly one of a kind. From the spice you got from the jalapeños to the incredible sweetness and tartness from the blood orange, this drink has gotta be up there in the top ten cocktails i've ever had! Now, onto the food! I started with the summer salad as an appetizer and it was delicious. Unfortunately, I was too hungry to remember to take a photo of it, but i've got pics of everything else. For my entree, I got the Wild Mushroom tacos. To be honest, I find it a bit confusing and extremely frustrating that we cannot mix and match. I don't get why it is not an option because I want to mix around the flavors and try new things. Anyways, I really enjoyed the flavoring of the tacos, but I really wished I could've tried two others along with it.
