Food AMAZING If you want a small drive out into the hill country, this is the place to go for a great spot to eat at. It is about 30 minutes away from San Antonio. Great indoor outdoor seating and it was not really hot outside this time of the year and we had gotten to the restaurant at 5. It is a very family friendly place and they do have live music that play in the evenings. I did tell them it was my first time trying out the restaurant, and the owner came by himself and greeted us and thanked us that we came to his restaurant. I would have given five stars, but our waitress was not attentive as I would like it to be, but they were getting busy throughout that next hour we were there. We did get a slice of chocolate cake, which I highly recommend if there is any left because it is a very popular dessert! read more

We met another couple here for lunch on Saturday and mostly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I didn't take any pictures while we were there, but I did add a pic of their King Ranch Chicken that I brought home as a leftover. It was VERY good. Our friends shared a hamburger and they said it was very good. Watching some of the food passing our table looked good with good portion sizes. Our server was cut in the middle of our meal and we NEVER had another server assigned to us. We had to flag a random server walking by to get anything additional. We then had to flag down a manager to close the tab out and there was no acknowledgement or apology for the issue. They had a band that started playing while we were there. They sounded good and had a great playlist, my only complaint is they were way too loud for the small space. Conversation was impossible. We had to drive a bit and surprised to see what a cool place this was! Big parking lot, Sunday afternoon; music, food and an awesome "Texas" diner/bar. We tried the chicken fried steak but next time we will try the chicken fried chicken. Chicken fried steak is never as good as I hoped it to be It seems anywhere I get it! They advertise the best I wouldn't say so. It had too much gristle as I've had in many restaurants. Not the best! We enjoyed being there and we'll come back and try something else. Well we came in a torrential downpour and the rain couldn't keep us away. The staff was super nice and welcoming. The house singer was great and the playlist they had before he came on was just hit after country hit, I was having a great time. Then our food came, it was all delicious! First time visitor, the food had really good flavor, and my server was very accommodating. I was a little disappointed in the chicken fried chicken. There was a very small slender of chicken underneath all the breading. The mashed potatoes and green beans were excellent. Sweet tea was also spot on which is always a good thing! I am willing to come back and try again but for the outdoor seating so my office mascot Tes can come. I think this will be more of a drinking and outdoor Venue for me. My husband was in the mood for a burger, but gets very sick from eating pork so he called ahead to see if it was possible to get a burger that is not cooked on the same surface with pork. We spoke with the owner, Aaron and he said absolutely, just ask for him when we got there and he would make sure that they cook the burger in a pan and not the flat top. I wasn't super hungry but the Fredericksburg peach fried chicken salad sounded amazing so I wanted to try it out. We were also contemplating the onion rings and my husband said he didn't want any. I wasn't sure if I could eat the whole thing and Aaron assured us that once you eat one, we will end up finishing the basket. We ended up ordering them and destroyed them! They were absolutely delicious and their homemade ranch was absolutely superb! It was so full of flavor and you could taste the dill and the herbs and spices, they need to bottle that ranch dressing and sell it! I didn't grab a picture of the burger, but my husband was very happy with it, the bun looked wonderful, and the cheese was nice and melted all the way down the patty. His only complaint was that he did ask for grilled onions and they put raw onions on his burger. As for the salad, the chicken was super hot and fresh, the dressing was good, the pecans were delicious , but I was really missing that roasted peach flavor that I was expecting. The peaches were diced pretty small and I couldn't quite tell if they were roasted or not. I was just missing the richer flavor. As for the dressing, it did have a pinch too much vinegar for me, I really should have asked for some of the ranch to mix in there, and I think that would have absolutely taken it over the top. It definitely has an old rural cantina type of feel to it. Limited parking in the front, most of the parking is directly across the street, which is a very small street so no big deal. We did have to scoot down in our booth because the AC was dripping water down and we wanted to make sure it didn't hit the plate. All in all it was a great experience and the owner is a super cool guy and very accommodating. We will definitely go back, and very good price point. read more

I really want to like Specht's because of proximity and ambience We had to ask for a server after a 10 minute wait. Did get drinks promptly and 2 beers and ranch water were good. Fried pickles good but we're sitting in a puddle of oil. Nachos were not hot and lacking in ingredients. Fried chicken peach salad used chicken nuggets and canned peaches. All such processed food. This is a family friendly eatery with a playground outside and live music on the weekends. There is a covered and uncovered seating outside. They recently renovated the inside of the restaurant and it is nice to have a drink with friends. Food is good too. I like the sandwiches, brisket fries and grilled cheese sandwich. First time out here and it was jam packed and by the end of the night, we understood why. First walking up, there was the cutest kitty who greeted us and decided to quench his thirst after a hard day of greeting. It appears this establishment is on a farm so they have chickens and cows off to the back. Loved that so much! There was a live band that performed some awesome music and it was just an entertaining night. We had a few drinks but didn't order any food but everyone's food around us looked amazing. Then a customer walked in with this cool bird and he was the attraction for the night. His fries also looked delicious. lol. All in all, great atmosphere, very cool people and a chill vibe. Loved it here and we can't wait to go back. The manager Moe did a great job with the fans to keep everyone cool during the night and we were very satisfied with our visit. read more

This was a bit of drive for us but the food pics online led us here. The burger was one of the best I've had. The jalapeños and slaw were a nice touch and so tasty. My parents both ordered the Award Winning Chicken Fried Steak and they both thought the meat was too chewy. The ambience wasn't exactly pleasurable with some male patrons being loud and with foul language. It wasn't a drunken weekend night (it was Thursday just after opening). Let me start with that we came here based on attending a soccer tournament down the road. The place is rustic to say the least. We sit and wait a good 10+ min for waitress. The fried pickles were tasty as an appetizer. The food is slow in coming. But when it got there, finally, it was good. The place had a pretty good band playing when we arrived. I ordered the burger. Although not cooked to order the burger came with all the adds (lettuce, tomato, onion) and the meat blend was tasty. For what the place is and being the only place in a stones throw to these soccer fields, it was good. The only issue again was spotty service. My friend, Belinda, had reached out and wanted to catch up. She had never been to @spechtsstore before so we met for lunch today. It wasn't too busy today. Katie was our terrific server. Both Belinda and I tried the Bulverde Punch, which had rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, and grenadine. You couldn't taste the alcohol, which made it too easy to drink. I had the Cobb Salad with grilled chicken. The portion was huge and I ended up bringing at least half of it home. Belinda ordered The Hanz Burger with onion rings. She also ended up taking her food home. The onion rings looked good. All the food was delicious. There's usually live music but Katie said it was at night. We went here last night for Valentines Day and we absolutely LOVED it. The food was GREAT! We didn't expect to love it so much. We ordered the fried pickles, chicken and waffles and a bacon cheddar burger and we LOVE it. The ladies that served us were so friendly and sweet and the energy and ambience couldn't have been better. We enjoyed our time there so much I actually asked for an application to apply and the Owner Aaron, came out and introduced himself, gave me the application and chatted with us a bit. It's not often you are able to speak directly with the man in the charge so it meant a lot for him to come talk to us on a Saturday night. We absolutely will be back! read more

We have been going to Specht's for years now and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Today I went with a friend of mine and we sat outside. The first thing I noticed when we walked to the back patio was a black and white cat sitting on a table so I stopped to pet the cat because I love cats. I later found out his name was Patches and he looked healthy and happy and rather plump. Once my friend and I sat down I noticed there was another cat walking around and this cat looked very thin and hungry. As we are eating our food I see the poor little thin cat jump up between two women at the other table and grab what looks like the remains of a piece of chicken and ran a few tables over to eat the chicken. Upon seeing that I decided to give the cat some of my chicken so I was cutting pieces off and giving them to this cat. As I'm doing this, I notice our waitress and what appeared to be the manager looking at me and I could tell they did not want me feeding this poor, emaciated cat. Well sure enough the waitress was sent over to tell me to not feed the cat. I told the waitress that if they were feeding the cat then I wouldn't need to. She tried to tell me that they do feed the cat and that they think the cat is sick or something because it's so thin. I told the waitress, no, this cat is not sick, I'm looking at it right now and there's nothing wrong with this cat, this cat is just starving that's why it's so thin. I told her furthermore, if you were feeding this cat it wouldn't have jumped up on that table to take food. And then she said they were going to get rid of the cat and I said well good luck with that, no agency is going to pick this cat up. If I didn't already have four cats I would've brought the poor cat home. She was a little skittish and wouldn't let me touch her but I think with a little food she could be grabbed. So we're eating our meal and I keep giving this cat chicken and the cat keeps hovering around me. The poor cat is literally so thin and and it's breathing seems labored because it is so thin. This cat is literally starving to death at this restaurant while they feed another cat and ignore this cat. How heartless can you be? Now for the food, I ordered chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon. My friend had a cheeseburger with french fries and enjoyed her food. My chicken fried chicken was okay, it was not excellent, the mashed potatoes honestly were probably the best part of the plate and the green beans were soggy and limp And none of the food was exceptionally hot. As soon as my friend and I got up to leave, I noticed the manager come out and I could tell he was looking for this cat and I'm fearful that he was going to hurt the cat because they seemed quite upset that the cat was there. Mostly because of the cat and partly because of the mediocre food, I'm not sure that I'll go back anytime soon. If the manager is reading this, please feed that cat, you have one already, what's the second tiny little cat going to hurt. It seems a manager is irritated with this cat but all the cat is looking for some food and if it was given a little bit of food it wouldn't jump on the table looking for food. I noticed that Patches had a clipped ear which means he was neutered or spayed if it's a girl so there are lots of programs out there that you could get this cat fixed for $25. You could even put a cup up at the register that says donations to spay the cat. read more

Got here yesterday at 3:15 pm and they said they were closed. The sign says they closed at 8pm. They gave us a free app voucher for next time but will not be making the drive again. We were excited to try it. I checked their IG and they said they would be closing at 4:30 pm due to plumbing issues. It was just 2 of us so it was still an hour and 15 till they closed but oh well. Arrived at 6:50 on Sunday, May 3, 2026. We sat at an inside table by the bar. My husband ordered a beer and it sat on the bar for 10 minutes. When it was poured it had 3" of heavy foam. By the time the waitress was picking it up it had no foam and we watched her stir it with a spoon and served it to him. We ordered at 7:00, two chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, one bacon cheeseburger. We had been waiting about 20 minutes and the waitress came and said they were out of mashed potatoes. So we had to pick a different side. In the meantime we were listening to the staff tell customers as they walked in that the kitchen was closed and so was the bar. This started at 7:10 and they have posted they close at 8. They locked the front door so people would stop coming in. Very poor service and an unprofessional environment. The last time I had visited here I found a paper receipt in the bottom of my green beans. Thought I would give it a try after they advertised a revamp. Very disappointing. It is 7:33 and we are still waiting on our food, listening to them in the kitchen ask about onion rings for my burger that still haven't been dropped. Food came out at 7:45 and was missing green beans on one plate. The waitress that was delivering was super nice and apologized. She said they were out of a lot of stuff and just trying to make it work to get something out. The chicken friend steak was missing batter and the sides very small as they didn't have much of anything left. We decided to not eat and left. In the 45 minutes we waited on our food the waitress came by once to tell us they had no mashed potatoes. You would think the manager on duty would at least come by and apologize or update us. While we waited the guy in the band came in to get paid and complained that it sure is hard to sing a set when you have kids running around screaming. The bartender responded "yeah I bet!" read more

It was very unorganized, it seemed like sit yourself or put your name on the "list", but really grab a table before anyone else... bc everyone was just sitting themselves, the whole stage was full of dirty dishes and cups. I wonder why the manager wasn't out there cleaning up... the server was overwhelmed and busy, but the food came out fast. My ticket was wrong, someone else "fixed it", but it was even more incorrect the second time around. I salad looked fresh and the house watermelon margarita was perfect.
