Friend took me to this nice gem in Bulverde, TX. Very wide open spaces outside the restaurant/rodeo for hanging out with a group of friends, dance and maybe even catch a little rodeo action. Cody was our server. He was attentive and made sure all of our questions got answered from the chef. You can't go wrong with their Black Angus Beef. My only regret is I should have ordered a bigger steak than 8oz. The quantity portion of our sides was more than anticipated. I got Steak Fries as a side and was given Steak Fries in what looked like a never ending tin bowl. Definitely will be taking a drive back to Tejas Steakhouse soon read more

Called for reservations and got a table for dinner where we could also enjoy the rodeo! Great entertainment for about 2 hours. Fabulous opening with basically the entire crowd on their feet with hand over heart for the National Anthem. The food was out of this world. Our table had both ribeye and medallions and both were perfectly cooked and tender! The jalapeno mac and cheese was super creamy but not much jalapeno flavor. Split a bread pudding with bourbon sauce ala mode that was flavorful and definitely worth returning for. We had out-of- towners with us and know that this is now a place to bring out non-Texas guests for a terrific meal, fun atmosphere and true taste of what makes Texas so special. We found this amazing steakhouse hidden on a country road. I started with a refreshing cocktail called First Rodeo. I ordered the steak sandwich. The steak was so tender and seasoned perfectly. The flavors were amazing! I also tried the chicken fried steak, which was just as good. Our server was super friendly and helpful. If you're new to Texas and near San Antonio, take advantage of the Saturday night rodeo! We also indulged in the steak dinner for three- more than enough food for our family of four. We even had enough for sandwiches the next day. Steak comes with buttery cheese and pepper biscuits. We chose mushroom and onions for one side and broccoli for another. Everything was cooked to perfection. And, service was prompt and responsive. We got the hot queso dip with nachos as a starter and it arrived hot and creamy. It was so good we could have had two. The rodeo begins promptly at 7:30 pm so plan your reservation accordingly. (Do make one, you'll have to deposit $25 which they deduct from your final bill). We went to Tejas steakhouse and Saloon the atmosphere was great. You totally get that cowboy vibe. They have a steer over the fireplace buffalo over the bar. They have guns on the wall. Lots of pictures amazing place you definitely get that feel that you're in Texas. Last year I went with my father who came out from California. He picked the restaurant. They had a really great prime rib that time but this time when I went, they didn't have prime rib. The only big steak you could really get was a ribeye, which is amazing steak. I just wanted the prime rib and same with my dad and that's what he was looking forward to, but they didn't have that so instead we got the steak sandwiches that were still good. I would've liked a little bit more steak on it. My brother got a country fried chicken that he really liked. My boys got chicken strips which obviously kids love their chicken strips and the wife got a chicken breast that I won't lie was probably the smallest chicken breast I've seen. The waiter was doing his best to get to everybody in the restaurant. They were packed since it was Saturday night and it's during the rodeo. After dinner we went to the rodeo had an amazing time. Saw them riding bulls, riding horses doing a bunch of other things during the show. We had a great time and the kids loved seeing the cowboys and cowgirls. We will definitely would take people back for the rodeo when they come to visit us here. Next time we will probably do the food outside of the restaurant that is more set with the rodeo. Ok so we weren't going to eat here before the rodeó because it was all sort of last minute and from what I read there was no way on the planet we would be able to get a reservation but the rodeó gods smiled upon us and (likely because we were seriously early) got us out of the heat and Into the ac for what promised to be some good food. (Ya'll have a seriously hot town- this week was like 104). To my delight it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Southern hospitality is a thing. Thank you Texas. We ordered the fried jalapeño and pickles. They were hot and crispy and everything a fried appetizer should be. We ordered the kc steak for two which came with 4 appetizers.. the good news is that they let us order the steak cooked to our preferred temperature for each of us. The fist words I uttered were- damn someone knows how to season a steak. It was tender and flavorful. I'm a steak snob- worked managing a high end steak house for years .. I know a good steak and this was it. Sonny was our server. He was very concerned that we enjoyed our meal- offering suggestions along the way. I always have a lot of questions (it's in my nature- has nothing to do with my yelping). He could answer all if them. I could tell he was a rookie (that's experience on my end) but he was earnest in his approach and attentive and if I was his manager I would have been proud to have him in my employ. Speaking of the manager. She stopped by- not in the I need to put a check mark next to the say hello to every table kindof way but in the I really welcome your feedback kindof way. Bonus points. I started with the Prickly Pear margarita. It was tart and tasty. The selection of steaks on the menu is small and unique. They serve a 14 oz ribeye or KC Steak medallions. We ordered the medallions and were honestly shocked at how good they were. The meat was tender, perfectly cooked and had an amazing seasoning. We also ordered the chicken fried steak. It was also tender and not too heavily breaded, with a nice creamy gravy. However, we will likely skip that next time because the steaks were just too good. The hatch chile Mac & cheese was creamy and flavorful. The asparagus was nicely spiced and cooked . We ended with the whiskey bread pudding with ice cream - Yum. IYKYK - This place is hands down one of the (if not THE) best steakhouse in the San Antonio area. I've been coming here since I first moved to San Antonio back in 2013 and the food is still just as good now as it was when I first tried it years ago. It's a completely low key, unpretentious atmosphere that screams TEXAS as soon as you walk through the front door Some of the key menu items to show up hungry for: - KC style steak (perfectly seasoned and seared - this is their signature steak item and once you have a taste, you won't look at any other steak on the menu) - Fried pickles and jalepenos: I dont know how they get them so crispy and flavorful but don't miss out on this appetizer - Side items - You're going to want to go with the green chile mac and cheese and french fries...and you'll thank me for it ;) - Quail on a Wire - They didn't have this appetizer available on my most recent trip, but if you spot these quail/bacon/jalepeno/bbq sauce delicacy on the menu don't leave without ordering it. If you're going on a rodeo night - make sure you have a reservation (and make it early because they do book up early). Reservations shouldn't be an issue for any other day of the week. This was our first trip to Tejas Steakhouse. It was a trial run to find it and try it out when considering where to take some friends visiting from Europe in a couple of weeks. Will we take them? Definitely yes! Although it seems out in the country (which it is), it is only 10 minutes from the Bulverde Rd./281 intersection. The restaurant oozes Texas country ambiance. We had the KC steak for 3 and didn't regret it. The steak comes in 2 ounce medallions and was cooked perfectly to our request for medium. There is an extensive choice of sides. For an appetizer, we had fried pickles and jalapeños. Maybe the best fried pickles we've ever had - highly recommended! I have deducted a star because of dessert. We had both the peach cobbler and bread pudding. As a fan of both, both were subpar. The cobbler was some type of crumbled pieces of something mixed in with a can (?) of peach gel. Not very appetizing. The bread pudding had no sauce and was simply crumpled up pieces of dry bread with some cinnamon sprinkled on top. They really need to improve both recipes. read more

Service and ambience were amazing. Meat was seasoned very well, the KC for three, was a great dish to share and the sides were good. Id give this place closer to a 5, but it was priced pretty high for the value. $48 for a 14oz Ribeye was the only downside. Well heck...I really wanted to love this place. A good steakhouse without driving past loop 1604 is what I am looking for here in Spring Branch, America. This was our first time. We went with another couple. Celebrating a special occasion, I wanted a good steak. Arriving, we weren't sure where to park because you can't see the front door from the parking lot. So I figured any spot will work if you don't know where your going. An open door looked promising but we soon realized it was the back door of the kitchen. Following some horse shoes embedded in a concrete path we finally made the entrance. Smaller inside than I imagined. Less cozy too. The website recommends reservations which we had, but there were only four other people in the restaurant. Seemed unnecessary. Lots of cowboy decor. Chaps hanging all around the walls with western art and a few cow taxidermy heads. Country music playing in the background. The server was prompt, polite, and attentive. The steaks on the menu: ribeye, prime ribs and KC (Kansas City) Medallions. The wife and I prefer filets so we chose the closest to that which were the medallions for two. We ordered them medium and a choice of four sides. The friends followed suit with the medallions cooked medium and four sides. Bread was served with our waters. We also ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon for the table. The bread was more like a cornbread but not. Very dense and heavily peppered. Not my favorite. But I don't go to a steakhouse to eat bread (save Texas Roadhouse, their rolls are epic). The food arrived within a reasonable time. Cutting into my medallion, it was medium-ish. The wife's was...well don't. Same with the other couple. Some were medium and some way overcooked. Everything was good; not great like we were hoping. The evening was nice because of our company and not so much the food. I did see a chicken fried steak go by to another table that looked delicious. I may come back. The wife...no. First time there and had been wanting to try it but it's always busy when we tried to go on a Saturday. So went today on a Thursday and wasn't packed. Group of 4 and we had the salsa, queso and chips and the fried pickles and jalapeños. Both apps were good. Chips were better than most Mexican restaurants. I had the KC for one and was very impressed. Wife had the pan de campo. Was decent but it had pesto which through it off for me. Would be better with honey. Our first experience here about 8 months ago was pretty terrible. Enough time has passed and this place is under new ownership (same family of restaurants as La Gloria, La Fruteria), so we gave it another shot and we were not disappointed. We dined on Thursday night - because that's the best night to come! They open at 5 PM for dinner service and it's very peaceful and relaxing because it's not crowded. Parking is plentiful. They also have a great Prime Rib with 2 sides dinner special on Thursdays and it's tasty! I recommend you make a reservation (or just walk-in) on a Thursday. They're also open Friday - Sunday, but those days are much more crowded. We had 7 PM reservations and were seated immediately. Our waiter, Andrew, was wonderful! He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We chatted with him for a few moments each time he came by and he made some great recommendations. I got a glass of Kendall Jackson chardonnay - they opened a new bottle just for me, so that was appreciated. My fiancé got a Texas martini, which was very good. They gave us a basket of biscuits with butter and those were good too. We got the bacon wrapped quail as an appetizer. This dish is better than it used to be. It's 5 quail stuffed with cream cheese and jalapeno, wrapped in bacon, and served with a jalapeno and peach glaze. It was delicious! For our entrees, my fiancé got the Prime Rib special. It was huge, very well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. I actually liked the flavor of his steak a little more than my own. It was also topped with mushrooms and onions and came with a side of mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. It was all very good and the price was reasonable. It was a lot of meat though and he was unable to finish it - steak and egg leftovers, anyone? I usually get a filet mignon when I go to a steakhouse, but Tejas has KC Akaushi steaks, so I decided to try that this time. I got the 10 oz petite. I usually order it Medium, but the waiter recommended I get more Medium Well, as the Medium on these steaks is closer to rare, which I didn't want. So, I went with this recommendation and he was spot on. It comes as 2 oz medallions and each one was cooked perfectly. This steak is highly seasoned, which I liked, but others might find it a tad on the salty side. I got a side salad with blue cheese dressing and a loaded baked potato. Both were great! This is my 3rd visit to Tejas Steakhouse, and I had a better experience on my previous two so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt with this review. The positives are that the atmosphere is awesome - located in an isolated area on the edge of the Texas Hill Country just North of San Antonio, it's a beautiful rural setting. There are several rustic buildings on the property, including a stage area and a rodeo building where they hold events on Saturday nights in season. It's really a fun place to visit and attend an event after dinner. On a previous visit I had a tasty grilled, stuffed, and bacon-wrapped jalapeno appetizer, but as of 1/19/14 it's no longer on the menu. I also had a very tender prime rib about 18 months ago, but I was told this item is now served only on special occasions. Tonight I splurged on a 12 oz Akaushi Ribeye (the American raised Kobe / Wagyu beef) which I expected to be exceptional - it wasn't. It was cooked a perfect medium (maybe a little red, but it worked for me) but it was tough and had some gristle. Really? Tough and gristly Akaushi beef - how is that possible? My baked potato was severely undercooked, so much so that I couldn't smash it with my fork. My wife's potato was the same, so mine wasn't just an exception. My side Caesar salad looked attractive but didn't have the flavor I was hoping for. Because the complimentary biscuits provided a positive addition to the meal, as well as the creamy green chile mac & cheese, and because I've had better experiences in the past, I'm giving Tejas the benefit of the doubt with 3 stars instead of 2. read more

Last night I was supposed to celebrate my 68th birthday. I specifically chose this place because I wanted to have prime rib. I made a 7:30 reservation and on the Saturday prior I called to ask if the prime rib was going to be available for my reservation. I heard the young lady ask someone else about it then assured me that it was available. So I made the hour drive last night only to be told by the server that prime rib was only available on Friday and Saturday nights. This information could have easily been posted on the menu and really should be common knowledge for your employees. I could have easily made my reservation for Friday had I been made aware. Other than an apology by the server made me feel disinclined to celebrate there so I left. read more

Do you like spicy bread? Pepper cheddar biscuits. Omg the KC steak medallions were amazing. My daughter gave it a 10/10 rating. Perfectly seasoned perfectly cooked. It must have been all the employees' parking right up front. We were seated at least 10 minutes before our waitress came and greeted us. Mind you, this young lady only had one table. She goes back to the kitchen and five minutes later comes out with our salads. The waitress brings out two biscuits to our table, and I'm excited to clear my mouth of a vinegar salad. I haven't had that hard of a biscuit since I tried to eat a three day old biscuit at home, but hey, the butter was at least soft. We ordered the KC steak for two. Our waitress brought the steak to the table, and a well-done round steak would have been more tender. They say medallions, but it was some mystery cut. It was very, very, very tough! It tasted like a steak that you keep in the fridge for two days too long after buying it discounted. We ordered the bacon green beans, and I imagined fresh al dente green beans with crispy bacon pieces. Of course not. We received what tasted like canned green beans that were boiled and nary a piece of bacon in sight. The macaroni and cheese wasn't spicy but was edible. The wife enjoyed her two glasses of wine, and our bill was $115. Im embarrassed to admit it, but I've had better meals at Golden Coral. The musician was good but a little loud. It was loud enough but the employees decided to stand right next to our table, one of three in the place that was being used and have an employee party like they were hanging at a bar at closing time. I'm really surprised this place can make rent. I assume it's more of a bar than a restraunt. I feel for the owners, they must have been absent. The place looked like it was being run by kids and they didn't care about quality. Our waitress was nice but she didn't know the menu and she and the cook need to be retrained. I got subpar service. Check in with hostess 2 hours before the rodeo starts and told we could sit outside because we didn't make a reservation. I didn't see the bar until later when someone else asked to sit, never offered to me. By then all the bar seats were full. Waiting to be seated outside because the shortage in wait staff. Finally get seated outside and asked to have the misting fan turned on because of the heat. No follow up on that. Wait 20 minutes without anyone checking on us but manager had time to check on the table next to us to make sure their completed meal was good. Ended up leaving because no one brought us water or anything. Maybe it was because I don't look enough like the rest of the crowd. Oh my! The food here is amazing! Our dining companions, who were visiting the US for the first time from Germany, LOVED their steaks, green beans, & baked potatoes. I thoroughly enjoyed the venison meat balls and house salad. We began with an appetizer, the bacon wrapped quail. Fantastic! Katy was the perfect waiter and management came by a couple of times to make sure we were taken care of. Top notch quality and service! Why only 1 star, you ask? I had purchased some LipSense products from a vendor there at Tejas, before the rodeo, and had placed the bag beside me, on the floor, when we came into the steakhouse for dining. When we left, I forgot the bag. When I realized I had forgotten my purchase, I called that same night, and was told that no such bag had been turned in that evening. Best steak ever! The Kansas City meal offers five evenly cut medallions of steak that have been seared and cooked exactly to order (Medium Rare + in our case). The medallions provide an even crust all around the meat but leave the inside tender and juicy. Add in one of the best steak seasonings I have ever had and it is heaven! While you are waiting for your food there is plenty of cowboy artifacts from Texas history to look at. Great, one of a kind steakhouse certainly worth the drive. read more

What A Loser! We only drove out to this place after reading the food reporters review this morning. He gave it one star, we don't always agree with him, but in this case, he was too liberal. It is atmospheric, nice old Western ranch decor. Anything favorable ends here. The manager seats you and insists on your drink order while you still are fumbling with getting seated. I asked him (nicely) not to do this, and the next party that came in, he did the same thing. tsk tsk Food is terrible. Biscuits and gravy were the worst. Three biscuits thrown on a plate with a small 1/2 cup of tasteless luke warm white flour gravy. on the side The biscuits were not baked inside with a gummy bitter baking powder taste. Breakfast steak was three 2" cubes of steak and their "country fries" were 1/2 " cubed french fries. Pancakes had one side charcoaled black and the syrup was sugared brown water.
