    "First Rodeo" cocktail
    Jeff S.

We found this amazing steakhouse hidden on a country road. I started with a refreshing cocktail called First Rodeo. I ordered the steak sandwich. The steak was so tender and seasoned perfectly. The flavors were amazing! I also tried the chicken fried steak, which was just as good. Our server was super friendly and helpful. She told us they have a rodeo outback on Saturday nights until November, which made our dinner even more fun.

If you're new to Texas and near San Antonio, take advantage of the Saturday night rodeo! We also indulged in the steak dinner for three- more than enough food for our family of four. We even had enough for sandwiches the next day. Steak comes with buttery cheese and pepper biscuits. We chose mushroom and onions for one side and broccoli for another. Everything was cooked to perfection. And, service was prompt and responsive. We got the hot queso dip with nachos as a starter and it arrived hot and creamy. It was so good we could have had two. The rodeo begins promptly at 7:30 pm so plan your reservation accordingly. (Do make one, you'll have to deposit $25 which they deduct from your final bill). Well worth the price as the experience is true and true Texan!

Love this place. Food and service are always good. Finally went to the rodeo as well. Great time.

We went to Tejas steakhouse and Saloon the atmosphere was great. You totally get that cowboy vibe. They have a steer over the fireplace buffalo over the bar. They have guns on the wall. Lots of pictures amazing place you definitely get that feel that you're in Texas. Last year I went with my father who came out from California. He picked the restaurant. They had a really great prime rib that time but this time when I went, they didn't have prime rib. The only big steak you could really get was a ribeye, which is amazing steak. I just wanted the prime rib and same with my dad and that's what he was looking forward to, but they didn't have that so instead we got the steak sandwiches that were still good. I would've liked a little bit more steak on it. My brother got a country fried chicken that he really liked. My boys got chicken strips which obviously kids love their chicken strips and the wife got a chicken breast that I won't lie was probably the smallest chicken breast I've seen. The waiter was doing his best to get to everybody in the restaurant. They were packed since it was Saturday night and it's during the rodeo. After dinner we went to the rodeo had an amazing time. Saw them riding bulls, riding horses doing a bunch of other things during the show. We had a great time and the kids loved seeing the cowboys and cowgirls. We will definitely would take people back for the rodeo when they come to visit us here. Next time we will probably do the food outside of the restaurant that is more set with the rodeo. Which looked have burgers and stuff

Ok so we weren't going to eat here before the rodeó because it was all sort of last minute and from what I read there was no way on the planet we would be able to get a reservation but the rodeó gods smiled upon us and (likely because we were seriously early) got us out of the heat and Into the ac for what promised to be some good food. (Ya'll have a seriously hot town- this week was like 104). To my delight it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Southern hospitality is a thing. Thank you Texas. We ordered the fried jalapeño and pickles. They were hot and crispy and everything a fried appetizer should be. We ordered the kc steak for two which came with 4 appetizers.. the good news is that they let us order the steak cooked to our preferred temperature for each of us. The fist words I uttered were- damn someone knows how to season a steak. It was tender and flavorful. I'm a steak snob- worked managing a high end steak house for years .. I know a good steak and this was it. Sonny was our server. He was very concerned that we enjoyed our meal- offering suggestions along the way. I always have a lot of questions (it's in my nature- has nothing to do with my yelping). He could answer all if them. I could tell he was a rookie (that's experience on my end) but he was earnest in his approach and attentive and if I was his manager I would have been proud to have him in my employ. Speaking of the manager. She stopped by- not in the I need to put a check mark next to the say hello to every table kindof way but in the I really welcome your feedback kindof way. Bonus points. I didn't need the sides. I was full. So I'm not Commenting on them. Our server found out we were coming to the rodeó and offered us a drink to go. Smart guy. We got to go cups and we're on our way with full belly's and big smiles. Go. Eat. It's not some cheezy cowboy themed steakhouse. It's a steakhouse with damned good steak.

Thank you Olivia and team! Compliments to the chef as well. Everything we had was perfect! Olivia was so sweet and helpful. The biscuits were life changing and the steak was melt in your mouth. We had steak for 2 the Mac is great and everything was sooo fresh.

I started with the Prickly Pear margarita. It was tart and tasty. The selection of steaks on the menu is small and unique. They serve a 14 oz ribeye or KC Steak medallions. We ordered the medallions and were honestly shocked at how good they were. The meat was tender, perfectly cooked and had an amazing seasoning. We also ordered the chicken fried steak. It was also tender and not too heavily breaded, with a nice creamy gravy. However, we will likely skip that next time because the steaks were just too good. The hatch chile Mac & cheese was creamy and flavorful. The asparagus was nicely spiced and cooked . We ended with the whiskey bread pudding with ice cream - Yum. The bread pudding was just the right texture and the sauce was delicious. Our server Alyssa B was friendly, helpful and very efficient. A great representative for the restaurant. We enjoyed the Christmas rodeo - but the meal was the highlight.

    The aftermath. Yum

From the delicious wicked whiskey drink to the musician on an acoustic guitar, this was the best Friday date night. The steaks for two were perfectly cooked. Medium rare of course. I recommend adding the onions and mushrooms to steak. And a kind tip of the hat for the awesome service. Worth every hard earned penny.

IYKYK - This place is hands down one of the (if not THE) best steakhouse in the San Antonio area. I've been coming here since I first moved to San Antonio back in 2013 and the food is still just as good now as it was when I first tried it years ago. It's a completely low key, unpretentious atmosphere that screams TEXAS as soon as you walk through the front door Some of the key menu items to show up hungry for: - KC style steak (perfectly seasoned and seared - this is their signature steak item and once you have a taste, you won't look at any other steak on the menu) - Fried pickles and jalepenos: I dont know how they get them so crispy and flavorful but don't miss out on this appetizer - Side items - You're going to want to go with the green chile mac and cheese and french fries...and you'll thank me for it ;) - Quail on a Wire - They didn't have this appetizer available on my most recent trip, but if you spot these quail/bacon/jalepeno/bbq sauce delicacy on the menu don't leave without ordering it. If you're going on a rodeo night - make sure you have a reservation (and make it early because they do book up early). Reservations shouldn't be an issue for any other day of the week. Long story short - if you're in San Antonio, make the drive out to Bulverde for one of the best meals you're going to have in Texas.

This time, we went all the way to the Spring Branch area to eat here at Richter's Antler Inn. I had found it on an internet search for new places for our group. Nobody in our group of nine had ever heard of it, let alone eaten there. The distance scared a few off, but most of the usual folks came. I knew I was ordering liver and onions months ago when I first studied the menu. I got mine fried because one of my friends said that would be best. I knew my mom always sauteed it in a fry pan, so I passed on the grilled version. I was really shocked when it was served fried with a batter like a chicken fried steak. My friend said that was how her mama always did it. That will probably be how I always do it going forward. It was perfect. The whole plate, which included mashed potatoes with brown gravy and corn, was perfect. I also tried an Antlerita on the rocks. Believe me, it was the best margarita I have had in years. It was only something like four dollars at happy hour prices. I would have had another, had I not been driving. Others in our group had chicken fried steaks, fried catfish, and fried shrimp. I could see that all of the portions were large. I specifically asked how everyone liked their food. Not one negative response in the bunch. That always makes me happy as the organizer. The atmosphere here is pure Texas Country. It is beautifully rustic and felt like a very comfortable ranch lodge. I'm going to put it on the list for out of state guests in the future. Our server was a very young man. I tried to remember the name, but y'all no I have a mind like a sieve, as Daddy used to say. Anyway, he looked like he might have just graduated high school and gone straight to work here. He did a great job. I don't think there was one mistake on our order. Any my folks always make special requests that would annoy a veteran server. I'm going to mention the price here, because it simply blew me away. I had fried liver and onions, Texas toast, mashed potatoes with gravy, a margarita, and a sweet tea all for $16.00! I stopped for fast food the other day and paid more than that. This place is a hidden jewel. Give it a try!

But at my age anytime you are over ground is the best occasion. I have heard it is real fancy. And it is. Do not come in Crocs and sweatpants. This is not that restaurant. It is that restaurant where you should make reservations. It is also a place that emphasizes presentation and service. We came right when it opened and we informed the hostess of our reservations. We were seated in the bar area. Once inside I was struck by its ambience. It is sleek, dark and dare say "sexy." Our server, who was extremely attentive came to our table and took our drink orders. My partner ordered an Old Fashioned and me, a Lagunitas IPA. Whilst waiting for our drinks I looked over the room. One thing I noticed was a barrier that separated the bar area and the dining room. The Social Hour is meant, to socialize. I saw couples leaning into each other. Another group were drinking martinis with a seafood tower, almost touching the ceiling. Conversations were had. Romantic glances were exchanged. It isn't a casual place like Bubba's 33 nor Texas Roadhouse. It feels like a place best suited for a date night or an anniversary. I'm wondering how the dining room area is? The Social Hour does offer some drink and small bites specials. We ordered the kabob with pineapple, brussel sprouts, and sliders. They were all pretty great. It reminded me of the same experience as in partaking in tapas. I would remiss if I didn't relay our service here, it was excellent. Our server, Holiday(I hope I spelled it right.) treated us like we were the only patrons there. I've gone to upscale restaurants where staff looks at you up and down. Or they try to size you up. This is not that place. Which was so refreshing. If this place went above and beyond my expectations why didn't I give it four stars? In my opinion I think that a place that creates an upscale experience needs to have a few beers on tap. Even places like Wing Daddy's or Chili's offers a few beers on tap. Secondly, the bar area seating feels a bit tight. I wonder when the dinner crowd arrives would you be in the lap, of someone else's conversation? I still highly recommend this place. The Social Hour area is perfect for a date or an anniversary. The service and food were both excellent. And I've never been to a place where you are given warm hand towels. It reminded me of that scene with Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" minus Billy Idol.

But when we arrived there were perhaps hundreds of latex balloons throughout the restaurant, several at each table. No employee knew anything about them, other than that they were rubber balloons bought on Amazon. Rubber is latex As many as 15% of Americans have latex allergies. Symptoms can be as mild as undiagnosed gastro distress, (great for a restaurant's reputation) and as severe as a fatal anphalaxis.
