I HAD to stop for a looksie when I spotted a special card!
Product: These pieces of artwork catch my eye every day during my trek to work. I've seen sports logos and cartoons on his display. One day I saw a Christmas Simpson's card (Bart laughing at Homer who is stuck in the chimney wearing a Santa outfit) and I could NOT help but stop to look at it. It was hilarious! The drawing was spot on and definitely captured the Simpson's relationship. I asked Robert if I could purchase the art, and he notified me that they are actually greeting cards! EVEN BETTER! They had multiple uses for them: Art just to hang or give away! I immediately purchased the card along with two others (Mickey and Minnie on a sleigh and Dora on a horse). I definitely kept the Simpson's card for myself! Later in January, I bought two more cards: one with Elsa and Anna and the other was an Elmo Valentine card. These are the best cards! He also signs the back of the cards with his name and lists 750 17th and H St NW as his address of work.
Service: A couple of months before I purchased a card from Robert, I saw Robert run after a couple that was pushing a stroller. He handed the little girl a card that she liked and walked away without compensation. It was the sweetest thing! Just a note: the art that you see displayed are display only. Robert has to photocopy them onto nice cardstock elsewhere. He usually has ready-printed cards on hand, but if he doesn't have the card, he will call you to pick them up when they are ready! The cards are $5 each! If he doesn't have cash on hand to get the cards printed, you have to pay ahead of time. During the day, you can see him drawing new artwork with his drawing utensils on the sidewalk! His replenishes his display of cards with new artwork and is always in season. His artwork is customizable! He can add words to the front of the card if you'd like. I believe he works pretty much all day. I see him at 8:30am when I come into work and when I leave at 6:30pm.
Decor: This place is located outside a PICF (a custom imaging and framing store) near the McDonalds. If you don't see him sitting on the chair posted near his art, he can be found in McDonalds especially during the winter time since it's so cold outside. His cards are displayed on a cardboard trifold that is tied to a short iron fence. He is a street vendor, definitely keeps overhead costs low!
Parking: There's garage and street parking. Farragut West Metro Station (1 block away) and Farragut North Metro Station (2 blocks away) are close by too!
I'm so happy that I gave Robert's cards a chance! They are super unique, creative, and colorful! I wouldn't buy cards elsewhere! I will try to post up the cards that I buy, but I've already given a few away! read more
