If I could give this place a 0 star rating I would.. This was my first time being at this doctors office and something seemed off the second I stepped foot in the lobby. While getting me prepped for the appointment and filling out paperwork, the receptionist let me know that I will not be allowed to take my coffee in the back with me. I let her know I was a type 1 diabetic and just gave myself a shot for it.. (not trying to give excuses it's just the truth). The doctor was standing on the other side of the desk and proceeded to tell me it will not be back there with me, no exceptions (in a very rude manner, he definitely could have went about it in a nicer way & tone) so the receptionist told me I'll need to throw it away before going back. I finish up my paperwork and I'm waiting for them to call me back & the office manager comes out to let people in the lobby know if you do not have an appointment you need to go wait in the car. Mind you I had my mom with me because I was a complete nervous wreck because today is the day I'll be finding out what kind of surgery they want to do on me. About 10 minutes go by, & then I'm approached by the office manager. She comes up to me letting me know since I can't comply with the rules that the doctor would like to reschedule my appointment. & then proceeds to put words in my mouth saying I said "legally" I need my coffee when in reality, I just told them I gave myself a shot for it and I don't want my blood sugar getting low. I understand with Covid there are certain stipulations people put in place in order to protect their business and the people coming in and out. But the way this staff went about everything was COMPLETELY wrong & disrespectful. I would NEVER write a review unless I felt the need to.. but this is something I can't stay quiet about. I wish I can give a zero star here. My mom didn't see Dr. Barnebey during the Covid after her surgery 3 years ago. We were hoping that he can address the questions she had, but instead we were there for 2.5 hours for an easy appointment. Our appointment was scheduled over one month ahead for 1pm, but we didn't go into any room until 2pm. The front desk staff can only tell me that "they are short staffed". If you are short staffed, maybe you shouldn't schedule so many patients. We won't go back for sure. It is very frustrating when you have elderly parent with anxiety and waited so long to be seen by a doctor. read more

Dr. Barnebey is a very nice man. Don't expect much information or time to explain your treatment from him. Technicians are over worked and push you in and out of office as quickly as possible. Not very friendly or courteous, this includes the front desk lady Megan. If you book an appointment be prepared to sit for 30-40 min before seen. In my opinion they over book their appointments and the technicians are running around trying to keep up with patient flow. I have been getting treat by specialty eye care for 1 1/2 years since I was diagnosed with glaucoma. I am now getting treatment from a different eye care center and am very happy with them. My advice is to always get a second opinion and find a eye care facility that works best for you. Specialty eye care is a racket! read more

Dr. Barnebey has been helping me to manage my open angle glaucoma for over 25 years. I have found the office to be well-run and attuned to patient needs throughout this time. I would not hesitate to recommend him to friends and family. Initially he treated me with eyedrops only. Later, he performed laser surgery to help control the pressure. At present, my pressure is stable with eyedrops only and my retinal images and visual fields show nothing indicating advancement of the disease. A long time patient of Dr Barnebey for over 12 years, seeing him at least 4-5 times a year. He has always been very courteous and informative when asked questions. Have had glaucoma for many years and he has been able to stop the progression through medication, laser surgery, and eye stents. Although have had to wait a couple of times when they have been super busy or an emergency has to be treated I've always been treated respectfully. When I have had to reschedule, even at the last minute when I've forgotten an appointment, the staff has been very pleasant and accommodating to my needs. Highly recommend Dr Barnebey (and Specialty Eyecare Centre) for glaucoma care and eye surgery. He is very knowledgeable, professional, and quite good with chronic eye disorders. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Barnebey for over 25 years for low tension glaucoma and more recently for cataract surgery. I strongly believe that he is the best in the Northwest, perhaps anywhere. He has always spent the time I needed to understand my decreasing vision in my left eye, and how long I could go without drugs or surgery. He has all the most up-to-date equipment, some of which he helped develop and evaluate, and he is involved with multiple clinical trials of new techniques. He has a full surgery center below the diagnostic center on the main floor. Since my low tension glaucoma was unusual, early on he arranged for me to have a full day of further evaluation by Dr. Alon Harris in Indianapolis for no charge. When I finally did agree to have the surgery there was one problem that had never happened before, but he fixed it in short order. I recently had cataract surgery with the new multi-focal lens that corrected my astigmatism and near-sightedness. I now have nearly perfect vision without glasses and can see better than I have in 50 years even with glasses, which I've worn since 7th grade. I highly recommend Dr. Barnebey and give him credit for saving and improving my vision. Yes, sometimes I've had to wait a little, but what's your vision worth, anyway? read more

I've been going to Dr. Barnebey for 4 years, and although he isn't the most communicative of Dr.'s, he is truly an expert and is up to date with the latest techniques and technology. I just had my second surgery from him and so far, I couldn't be more pleased. His staff is top notch and I have yet to meet a team member I was unsure about. They are super helpful and so nice. I can't even believe there was a single negative review for Dr. Barnebey's office. My husband had glaucoma and cataract surgery by Dr. Barnebey. He now has 20/20 vision in that eye and is looking forward to getting the other eye done as soon as it stabilizes from not wearing the contact. No more grabbing for his glasses when he wakes up in the middle of the night to prevent walking into walls (seriously). Woohoo! Dr. Barnebey and his staff are TERRIFIC. Every single little detail was explained to us in a way we could understand. SO friendly and SO professional. Dr. Barnebey is very down to earth and does a fantastic job. When we asked questions, he NEVER seemed to mind, or rush us. Which leads me to: Did I have to wait a few minutes passed my appointment time to get in to see the Dr? I don't know, because the world does not revolve around us. If the patient before me needs a little extra time, do I want a Dr. that says, "Yeah, I know we aren't quite finished, but you are going to have to make another appointment, because I have a 10:30." After waiting 20 minutes for my appointment and not hearing even when they might see me, I went to the receptionist and told her I had to leave because if I started this late I'd get out too late for my absence from work. While I was talking with her another poor gent was complain he'd been waiting for 45 minutes for his over due appointment. I'm done. For my last 3-5 visits they've been 30 minutes + late each time. I was scheduled for a basic test having been referred by my doctor. When checking in I gave them my insurance card and they assured me the tests would be covered. And the Dr was very pushy on scheduling surgery. No thank you. I have another Doctor who has much better manners. AND, this place is a $$$ Money Machine with many testing rooms. I completely agree with the first reviewer. I had an appointment for 2:20pm today and by 3:15, I still had not been called back. I ended up walking out and will never go back. What's the point of having an appointment? The front office is a joke. They should be telling patients upon arrival of the current wait times and then offer to reschedule if someone doesn't have an extra hour to sit around. My previous eye doctor was condescending and basically told me to find a solution to my dry eye problem by surfing the internet. A friend works in medical device certification and told me about a new system for treating dry eye and pointed me at Dr. Barnaby as a local practitioner. Dr. Barnaby tested me and determined I didn't fit the criteria for using that system but made other suggestions for treatment. We was patient and explained everything in great detail. It had taken a lot of time and a the arrival of a new drug, but we have found a solution. I had problems with long waits - my appointment starting late, even almost a half hour late - there for while. They seem to have improved their appointment scheduling - they've taken me in on time the last several times I've been there. Very early on, I also had some billing confusion - I got a bunch of notifications of them filing my insurance and some notifications of insurance turning me down a bill for what insurance didn't cover. However, I couldn't match up what wasn't covered with the bill they sent. They did eventually send an itemized list of charges that explained everything but it was frustrating that was not the default. Since then, we've had no issues. Throughout it all, the staff were professional and patient and willing to accommodate my requests. read more

I was to have eye surgery today w/Dr. Barnebey but after a series of troubling office mistakes made by the staff and as well as waiting one and and half hours for my first appointment.....I cancelled. I am sure the doctor is a good one but the training of the staff and over site of them is appalling. Phone numbers were transposed; a bill was sent to me excluding Medicare, although a photo of my Medicare Card was in the file.....that bill was addressed w/the incorrect spelling of the street and wrong apt. number and misspelled City. These are just a few examples but it did not give me any confidence in wanting to give my eye balls to this organization for surgery. What to do and where to go? read more

I have been going there for 2 years now. I am NEVER explained what is going one with my eyes, and the results. I feel like a number, and that somehow I should be so grateful to be seen there. I am treated as if I always overreact with my eyes, but then they always want to see me every 6 months. I always have a call 1 or 2 days before my appointment as a reminder. I made the appointment 6 months ago. So, today, while driving, I receive a call from the receptionist that I missed my appointment. Very politely, I mentioned that I didn't know I had an appointment today. From there, without any warning the receptionist started being rude, talking over me, explaining it is my responsibility blah blah blah, without even listening. I didn't call to start a war, lady. I mentioned that I took the appointment 6 months ago. Then, she proceeded to say that they reminded me. Yeah!! On April 24th!!!!! 20 days ago! 3/4 of their clients are seniors. I'm wondering how many gets billed for missed appointments for reminder 20 days PRIOR to the appointment. It was the last straw. I'm done giving my money to them. read more

Allow me to describe in a few words my experience with Dr. Barnebey: excellent expertise, outstanding professionalism, courteous, calm and patient - a doctor you can trust. I was first referred to Dr. Barnebey in 2003 - after my previous doctor performed an unsuccessful glaucoma surgery on my right eye. Dr. Barnebey fixed the whole situation through a second surgery and I regularly visit his cabinet to check my eyes ever since. It has been always easy to find a day and time convenient to me to get an appointment, and every time the staff is nice and welcoming (even on times when I happened to be late). The wait time has never been a problem (10 minutes at max), and the whole place (Specialty Eyecare Centre) is extremely well organized - running like a Swiss watch. read more

This is the most unprofessinal health care provider I have ever had to deal with. My opthamologist performs his surgeries here. They demanded $1500 up front when I arrived for the appointment. They have now been reimbursed by my insurance, but are still refusing to return my prepayment. They provide no information and are extremely rude at all times. read more

Waiting time is at least 20 minutes if you make appo at first thing in the morning. If you make appointment after 10am bring your books. 45-1 hr waiting time is expected. I was referred by my eye doctor for an infected stye. They were adamant that I needed a full eye exam, including dilation and pressure test, even though they had current charts from my eye doctor. Dr. Golez spent 20 minutes keying in all of my vitamins, including my brand of fiber. Then tried to send me on my way without even looking at the stye infection. "Oh it will go away." I asked "what about the pus and redness?" He said, oh is there pus and redness, here let me look at it. What an idiot; wasted 1 hour and $102.77. Went to another doctor who was very concerned and scheduled me for surgery. read more
