Specialty Italian Bistro is located on the Westbank of the Greater New Orleans area in Gretna, LA and this area has a lot of restaurants to choose from. They have done a great job updating and upgrading this location which used to be a Kentucky Fried Chicken. This New Orleans Italian Creole restaurant is noted for their great lunch and wine specials which makes it stand out from the many other restaurants in this area. They have a great selection of affordable lunch options in here and unlike many other spots their "specials" are not smaller portions as the serving size here remain VERY generous. They have a lot of traditional Italian options, sandwiches, calzones and salads along with decent pizza. Since this is Louisiana they also have a seafood gumbo on the menu. They also have a decent selection of desserts in here. Overall this is a great value lunch spot to grab an affordable meal and they also are a good dinner location as well. Spinach and artichoke dip
Ongelle C.

Hadn't been here in quite a while so we decided to stop in for lunch. Started with the spinach and artichoke dip which came out piping hot. I love the puffy pita that it comes with and the dip was creamy and delicious. The spaghetti and meatballs were a perfect lunch portion size. The meatballs were very tasty and the marinara was good although a little sweet for my taste. Hubby got the eggplant Parmesan and said it was delicious. A nice little Italian gem on the Westbank! Everyone is short staffed so be patient!!

We have driven by this place many times over the years and decided to give it a try. Well it was wonderful experience. The services was awesome and the food was hot and tasty. We had a pizza which was cooked perfect. Crust was cooked just right. The spinach salad with added grilled shrimp was awesome. The dressing is a pepper jelly vinaigrette which was great. Overall we had a great meal with great service. Give them a try, you know won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back.

The atmosphere was nice and everyone was very friendly but the food was just meh. The mozzarella cheese sticks were definitely frozen. The chicken Parmesan was so dry I could barely chew it up. Nothing was very flavorful or fresh.

Pecan Crusted Catfish

By far the most flavorful meat lasagna I've ever tasted! It's made with Italian sausage and ground beef which brings out the herbs and spices. I had the Pecan encrusted Catfish and the sweetness compliments this tender fluffy fish with every bite. It's the kind of fish that melts in your mouth with brown sugar flavor.

Specialty is one of the best Italian food restaurants on the west bank. Located in what I believe was an old fast food restaurant (KFC maybe?), I had never thought about dining here till a friend suggested it. I am glad I listed to the recommendation because this place is great. We arrived at an odd time due to scheduling issues so the restaurant was mostly empty. The hostess immediately greeted us, and was very friendly. She even tolerated my silly jokes about the westbank. I started with french onion soup in their "mini" size. The mini is a coffee cup which made drinking all of the tasty broth much easier than if it had been in a traditional bowl. I realize french onion soup is not traditional Italian fare, but their version was very good. My friend and I split an order of manicotti that was wonderful. This was among the best versions of manicotti I have ever tried. I highly recommend splitting an entree unless you want leftovers. Each entree comes with a salad and small cheese pizza (cheese bread) and portions are quite large. I really enjoyed this restaurant. If you're on the west bank and want great Italian food coupled with friendly service, I recommend you give Specialty a try.

Another great night at Venezia Restaurant--one of our longtime favorites. Since we live close to…read morethe Gretna location, that's our usual spot, and it never disappoints. We were lucky to have Pam as our server, and she was outstanding--knowledgeable, attentive, and made the entire experience even better. I ordered the Prime Ribeye, and it was phenomenal--served sizzling on a hot plate and full of flavor. I paired it with pasta, which was a perfect complement. My husband went with one of the specials (chicken and penne with vodka sauce), and after trying a bite, I can say it was just as delicious. The only small downside was that prices felt a bit high, but that seems to be the norm everywhere these days. Overall, a fantastic experience--we're already looking forward to our next visit.

For contect, 1 appetizer, 2 entrees at the restaurant, 1 entree to go and 2 ice teas. The veal parm was over cooked with no cheese and the sauce tasted like it came out the can. The chicken was undercooked and the Alfredo was bland. The spinach dip should be called bowl or melted cheese. The shrimp Alfredo was a waste with 6 tail on shrimp and a pasta that was thrown away. The only redeeming quality was the service. The young man was attentive. It wasn't his fault. This faux pas took 38 minutes from parking to pulling off. The fact that there were only 2 tables seated should have been the indicator.

We saw on the menu that checks could not be split, which was fine even though split would be preferable to us. So, when our server told us the check can't be split but she can "take multiple cards" I was a bit confused and asked if she could explain more since that's what we might do, since she said it was possible. Already there she gave attitude and said I don't know how else to explain it to you in a rude tone. After we finished our food, we asked her to take multiple cards for the check and she told us to write on the back what to charge each card. I apologize that I did misunderstand what she meant, and put the items rather than the exact amount to charge each card. She came back and said, "you did exactly what I said not to do." So I said sorry and was in the midst of redoing it by calculating when she just snatched it from me and said she'll just do it. I had no problem doing it nor did we complain even once. After a while, understandably, she came back and basically scolded us, saying what if she was busy she wouldn't have been able to do this....but she said she could do it in the first place! We understood from the get go no split checks but then she gave the option of multiple cards so obviously we took it. The food was good and the ambience was nice. I enjoyed the open kitchen concept and seeing the pizza oven. But the service ruined it for me. I work the food industry and would have never acted this way. Nevertheless, I would come again but would not want that server.

I struggled with putting a 5-star review on a pretty basic menu (no offense), but dang it,…read moreeverything we've eaten in our last 3 visits (in 2 months) has been 5-star fresh, tasty and plentiful. Give credit where credit is due. And the servers have really stepped it up. Very nice! Have not had to deal with huge crowds on any of our three visits, just a steady stream of in and out guests and to go orders. Drinks are always brought promptly, and only once has one gone dry. (They are $3.79 ea, so drink up!) One visit involved Pesto Bites and a Savory Cannoli w/a pasta salad side. The Pesto Bites were to die for, and don't believe the picture on the website - the cannoli was huge and looked more like a very big calzone, but it was packed with ingredients and flavor. The pasta salad was seasoned with just the right amount of Italian dressing. Another visit involved Mozzarella Sticks, Pesto Bites, wings and a Combo pizza. It also involved a large to go box. :) The wings were very good - not bready or slimy, which I often encounter when wings aren't the sole business of the establishment. Loved the crust on the pizza. The 3rd visit involved 3 people and Pizza Bites, Seafood Bites, Savory Cannoli w/pasta salad, Spaghetti & Meatballs w/2 extra meatballs and a 14" Hawaiian Pizza. There were some to go boxes and to go drinks with this meal too. I was pleasantly surprised with the Hawaiian pizza, not something I would ordinarily try, the Pizza Bites were amazing, and I don't eat shrimp but am told the Seafood Bites were very good. I wish I had taken pictures, but each time we were sitting down starving; that's never good for the photo business. :) Try it, you'll like it.

Very upscale Italian restaurant…read more FOOD: Delicious but very rich and filling. I had their lasagna and it was very unique, it wasn't your traditional lasagna as the pasta noodles were green and it had some other unique flavors going on but we liked it. AMBIANCE: The perfect ambience really. I can't stand going to a restaurant for dinner and it is bright lighting but this was absolutely perfect. Not too light and not dark. The perfect in between. Music was nice and appropriate and the interior decor was very upscale. Like if I was to ever to open a restaurant this decor would be my inspiration. ENTERTAINMENT: N/A SERVICE: Great service from our waiter and other staff floating in the area. The receptionist/hostess are is nice but the hostesses themselves could be a bit more welcoming. Just cheese pizza. Of course we already ordered one for us and yea agree. No sauce, super thin crust and just a lack of good pizza flavor. Had the white and added prosciutto. Won't be going for pizza here. Speghetti also had an odd flavor which the kids not I enjoyed. Kind of like vinegar. The tagliatelle though was amazing. The sauce was spot on just a little too frugal with it. The truffle was a great mix and just the whole dish was a balance of savory umami. Would love to see a protein with it though. Tried the meat and cheeses which were fantastic as well with the accompaniments and fried bread. I really enjoyed the chicken patte. The prosciutto was good nothing exciting. The bresaola was ok. The matru, bocconcino, and Harbison were all good. Of all the desserts tried the lemon sorbet was best but thats from brocatos. One of my fav places. The banana cake was not bad. Liked how it wasn't that sweet if you don't eat the brittle. The chocolate coconut didn't care for because of the hazelnuts. Will have to try another pasta to see if they match the deliciousness of the tagliatelle.
