Specialty Italian Bistro is located on the Westbank of the Greater New Orleans area in Gretna, LA and this area has a lot of restaurants to choose from. They have done a great job updating and upgrading this location which used to be a Kentucky Fried Chicken. This New Orleans Italian Creole restaurant is noted for their great lunch and wine specials which makes it stand out from the many other restaurants in this area. They have a great selection of affordable lunch options in here and unlike many other spots their "specials" are not smaller portions as the serving size here remain VERY generous. They have a lot of traditional Italian options, sandwiches, calzones and salads along with decent pizza. Since this is Louisiana they also have a seafood gumbo on the menu. They also have a decent selection of desserts in here. Overall this is a great value lunch spot to grab an affordable meal and they also are a good dinner location as well. My video review of Specialty Italian Bistro is here: https://youtu.be/MB2XBKiZ7r4

    Spinach and artichoke dip

Hadn't been here in quite a while so we decided to stop in for lunch. Started with the spinach and artichoke dip which came out piping hot. I love the puffy pita that it comes with and the dip was creamy and delicious. The spaghetti and meatballs were a perfect lunch portion size. The meatballs were very tasty and the marinara was good although a little sweet for my taste. Hubby got the eggplant Parmesan and said it was delicious. A nice little Italian gem on the Westbank! Everyone is short staffed so be patient!!

We have driven by this place many times over the years and decided to give it a try. Well it was wonderful experience. The services was awesome and the food was hot and tasty. We had a pizza which was cooked perfect. Crust was cooked just right. The spinach salad with added grilled shrimp was awesome. The dressing is a pepper jelly vinaigrette which was great. Overall we had a great meal with great service. Give them a try, you know won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back.

The atmosphere was nice and everyone was very friendly but the food was just meh. The mozzarella cheese sticks were definitely frozen. The chicken Parmesan was so dry I could barely chew it up. Nothing was very flavorful or fresh.

    Pecan Crusted Catfish

By far the most flavorful meat lasagna I've ever tasted! It's made with Italian sausage and ground beef which brings out the herbs and spices. I had the Pecan encrusted Catfish and the sweetness compliments this tender fluffy fish with every bite. It's the kind of fish that melts in your mouth with brown sugar flavor.

Specialty is one of the best Italian food restaurants on the west bank. Located in what I believe was an old fast food restaurant (KFC maybe?), I had never thought about dining here till a friend suggested it. I am glad I listed to the recommendation because this place is great. We arrived at an odd time due to scheduling issues so the restaurant was mostly empty. The hostess immediately greeted us, and was very friendly. She even tolerated my silly jokes about the westbank. I started with french onion soup in their "mini" size. The mini is a coffee cup which made drinking all of the tasty broth much easier than if it had been in a traditional bowl. I realize french onion soup is not traditional Italian fare, but their version was very good. My friend and I split an order of manicotti that was wonderful. This was among the best versions of manicotti I have ever tried. I highly recommend splitting an entree unless you want leftovers. Each entree comes with a salad and small cheese pizza (cheese bread) and portions are quite large. I really enjoyed this restaurant. If you're on the west bank and want great Italian food coupled with friendly service, I recommend you give Specialty a try.

Mr. Bubbles -- 5…read more Located right before you walk into Hong Kong Market, this is hands down one of my favorite boba spots in the area. And being next to one of the best international markets in Greater New Orleans? Yeah... it's a whole experience. I started coming here about 7 years ago, and my go-to back then was the Vietnamese coffee with boba jelly. Fell in love instantly. Then one day I wanted to switch it up, and the owner--who I've seen consistently since day one--put me on to honeydew with watermelon and condensed milk. BABY... that became my order for a whole year. So this visit, I came in on the same type of timing, wanting something new. And just like that, she recommended strawberry with coconut. Let me tell you... she knows BALL. The flavor is creamy, smooth, and gives strawberry Blue Bell ice cream vibes in the best way. Their boba is always consistent. Texture on point, flavors on point. Never a miss. They also have bánh mì--basically a Vietnamese po-boy--and I'm almost certain the bread is from Dong Phuong. If you know, you know. I usually get the roasted sweet pork with extra pâté because that pâté? Chef's kiss every single time. Random memory but I remember catching them at NOLA Night Market years ago and that lemongrass chicken had my husband hooked. I'm still waiting on that comeback! They went fully takeout after COVID and are on DoorDash, but I noticed the boba teas aren't listed. Honestly, I get it... they don't hold up the same sitting around. Staff is always kind, service is smooth, and the quality never slipped in all these years. This is a no-brainer for me. I'll always come back--and I'm always trying something new. I always recommend the Banana with Matcha

I've never had one and has a lot of flavors and good textures. It has a little bit of everything. It's got the vegetables, pork if many variety. Including meatballs. Lots cilantro and jalapeño it's a really good sandwich. Overall, I recommend if you haven't tried one might as well try Mr. bubbles. We have about six sandwich options. A lot of drinks even a veggie option with avocado so I don't think you can go wrong. Take a little trip to the taste of Vietnam. Try Mr. bubbles you'll be happy you did if not it was a good adventure. The service was fast and friendly, and the ambience was your typical sandwich shop with a little bit of Asian flair. Don't forget to stop by Hong Kong market while you're there it's an adventure in its own.

I cook a lot of both at home--I'm someone who is dedicated enough to my Louisiana cooking to order Steen's syrup from Louisiana to my Florida doorstep even though Florida makes perfectly good cane syrup in its own right. (Side note: any New Orleans restaurant you venture to serving pain perdu with maple syrup and not Steen's--ask what the hell they're even doing.) Like most worthwhile restaurants, the menu here changes up. The specials as well as their famous sandwiches seem the way to go and I got the fried shrimp with bread and butter pickles. Exceptional--a small amount, it may have even been a starter but regardless was perfect for me. The sandwiches other diners had on their plates were large and looked delicious just glancing around at other tables. Everything comes up fast and the atmosphere is . . . just ideally New Orleans. It feels all the way "working CBD lunch" yet unhurried, a reflection of Cochon's greatness but scaled down and with utterly no pretense. There's simply a real sense of both care and expertise in everything done here no matter how simple or complex. Beyond all else, they're doing what they love here with no scaling back or dressing up to make it anything else. A winner through and through.

I placed an order about 10:20pm via GrubHub. After receiving a notification via GrubHub that my order was being made and in process, I was happy I would be having a po' boy and fries in 30 minutes. Well....20-30 minutes go by and I get an update saying my order is delayed 15 minutes. Ok...thats fine. Still satisfied that with my limited options this late in this night that I will be getting food. 10 minutes later, I get a text saying my order has been canceled. Frustration ensues... I debate. Just let it go? Or call the restaurant directly. I call the restaurant. A pleasant gentleman answers. I explain my order and cancellation notice. He says my first name without prompting and explains that Grub Hub did not assign a driver and he cancelled the order. Before my objection, however, he asks where I am and clarifies that I am at a very near hotel. He, the owner, confirms my location and room number and says he can make my order in 5 minutes and deliver within 15. I was elated. I go downstairs to the hotel lobby to wait and within less than 15 minutes he arrives with a bag of hot food that I ordered. This is customer service of perfection. When he arrives I pulled out cash for a tip and he refused to accept it and apologized for Grub Hub screwing things up before I could even have cash to give him. The food....it was great. The bread of the po'boy was crispy on the outside and chewy inside. Fresh shrimp was flavorful and lightly breaded. The cheese fries are indeed world famous. This wasn't just a "food was great" review. But the above and beyond service was as good as the food. If you have read this review this far, just order food from Parkside Tavern. Please. You will not regret it.

Said it would be ready in 10 minutes and it was. The food was as good as I remembered. The French bread must be Leidenheimer's. It's the best. Parkside is smoky and it's decor leaves something to be desired. Mostly frequented by friendly locals who have been going to Parkside forever. However, I know wait times can be out the door so plan accordingly. We were dropped off by Uber, but in terms of parking, it's mainly street parking. Overall, the shop is pretty small. They have a handful of tables outside and more seating inside but it's not huge -- hence the longer lines. It's also quite eclectic with serving on plastic McDonald's plates and the music that was playing. We ordered: The ham sandwich, wedge salad, and a delicious pickle cocktail The ham sandwich had excellent flavor! I wish it had a but more ham on it, but overall the flavor was 10/10! The wedge salad had too much salad dressing. I LOVE blue cheese and blue cheese salad dressing but the lettuce to dressing ratio was off. Could have used less as I felt so much went to waste. The thick cut bacon on the salad was the exact salty touch it needed and the fresh dill was such a fresh touch. The pickle cocktail was delicious! I wish I would have ordered another one! It was slightly sweet, but also salty... SO good! Overall, I would highly recommend Turkey and the Wolf and totally stop by again if I were visiting New Orleans in the future.
