Spectrum Health has given me the best medical care I have ever received. I was treated with respect, kindness and care.

The 4th (the most complicated one.) was a total horror. I woke up after 8 hours of surgery and the nurses at Butterworth wouldn't give me any pain medication. When my doctor finally came in after the second day he ordered me Norco. I STILL never got any medication. The nurse would come in singing..."i have your pain pill"! Only to look in the small cup she held and see one Tylenol 500. I am CONVINCED the entire opium epidemic comes right from Butterworth Hospital. Not only do they take your meds when you're in dire need of them, after you finally go home, the surgeon offers to have your scripts sent to you via mail because you may live a ways away. Those never come either. When I ask about the mailed scripts, they tell me i filled them in the Meijer Pharmacy right below Butterworth Hospital. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out I wouldn't have them mailed just to drive all the way back there to fill them. I was labeled a junkie or something because i kept complaining about not getting pain any relief. I have NEVER been addicted to ANYTHING, not even coffee! And i have PTSD over that surgery and the pain i was in and the nasty way i was treated at Spectrum Health Butterworth. Now i have to have a 5th surgery. I will go to Saint Mary's in hopes they treat me a little better. I'm scared to death.

This review focuses on the hospital staff and not the surgeon who was outstanding as well. I arrived two hours prior to my surgery time as directed and was pleased to use the offered valet parking. Not a big deal going in but it's super nice to have your car all warmed up waiting for you when you're ready to leave. With all the pretesting that takes place, it is understandable why you are told to arrive two hours prior to the surgery time. Additional bloodwork and surgical preparation (IV's, etc.) were handled by two really outstanding and friendly nurses. Also during this time, the anesthesiologist, surgical nurse and surgeon came to talk to me. I was a bit concerned about the anesthesia since I was made aware Corewell did not renew the contracts with the various practices that previously provided this service. Apparently their business model is to employ Nurse Anesthetists with the Anesthesiologist (also a hospital employee instead of independent) supervising two or three operating rooms. The Anesthesiologist did a good job explaining to me his involvement and did not discount any of my concerns but rather tried to address them. I awoke in the recovery room to another pair of excellent nurses. They did a great job explaining the do's and don'ts of post recovery. I needed to be assessed by Physical Therapy before I could go home so that came next. No one likes surgery (at least I don't think so) so when a team can do such an outstanding job making you comfortable, it really is a nice surprise.

The "receptionist" down in the ER was an absolute clown, and incredibly disrespectful. That lady needs a behind the scenes job because she does not have even the most rudimentary customer service skills. I went to the hospital for hypertension and she nearly put me into cardiac arrest once I was discharged. and I never did get that doctors note.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Chung and his team. My recovery went really well, and I feel that's due to his expertise. I saw him every day in the hospital (except the weekend) plus another member of his team saw me every morning. I felt very well cared for. I also want to commend the nursing staff....especially Katie, Alyssa, and nurse assistants Bronwyn, Jack and Sequoia. Everyone was very attentive even though they have so much to do. Being in the hospital is never pleasant, but the care I received at Butterworth on the 7th floor made the experience bearable. A big thank you to all the staff...you are appreciated!

She looked at me and said well I can get a supervisor or security and I looked at her and said you're gonna need both of them they treated her like crap and then the second one that came in I was explaining to her what happened and then she got quiet and then started being rude and I asked her what was that about and she said well you were talking about my coworkers and that makes me feel triggered and started treating us bad it was like insane skit from a reality show that you couldn't believe was actually happening. They were so rude and nobody did a damn thing about it. They are heartless in there. They don't give a damn about people. I will never step foot back in the hospital.

Overall to say that numerous Nurses(not all by any means) went about their work with the urgency of a sloth with time to kill would be an understatement. While I was bellowing for aid, I could literally hear all of the nurses standing at the nurse station talking about their weekends. When I was discharged I realized why they were so distracted.... they all had their phones out gently scrolling through social media. Excellent! I also got some good pics of them on their phones! When I was leaving I asked the security officer if this was commonplace and he said absolutely! I would definitely search other medical aid while in Grand ... Update: the staff put the wrong address on my Bill and sent my info to address from over 15 years ago. After calling them to find out about my bill they realized they took a pic of my ID and insurance and just didn't update the file.... the incompetence is never ending here.
