1-Star Review I brought my vehicle in for simple electrical work related to a detachable steering wheel: * hook up the horn power connection * Hook up cruise control accessibility * Connect the volume/radio control module When I dropped the car off, there were no ABS, traction control, or airbag lights on. During the work, the mechanic broke the clock spring. Instead of stopping and properly repairing the issue, they ordered a replacement part and sent me home anyway with traction control and e-brake warning lights on, meaning the car effectively had no ABS or traction control. I was told the vehicle was "safe to drive." This happened on back roads in Vermont, during snowy conditions. The car lost control, and I nearly crashed. That decision put my safety at serious risk. When I returned , the situation was worse: * ABS light on * Traction control light on * Airbag light on None of these were present before this shop touched my car. I was also told there were "no steering issues," which was blatantly false. The steering wheel is severely off-center, and the alignment is clearly incorrect. Dave claimed the car was put on an alignment machine, but this was not believable--the machine had another vehicle (an Acura) sitting on it that clearly had not been moved and wasn't even in a condition to be aligned. The excuse given was that the alignment machine "might not be calibrated," which is not acceptable. Instead of fixing the root problem, Dave attempted to clear warning lights with a basic scan tool and tried to send me home again, even though: * The e-brake light was still blinking * The airbag light was still on This shows a fundamental lack of understanding--or honesty--about the issue. The steering angle sensor attached to the clock spring was clearly not centered or calibrated, and the airbag resistor was not properly connected, which is why the airbag light remains on and continues to trigger ABS and traction control faults. On top of all this, they broke my aftermarket horn, which is tied into the factory horn circuit. I repeatedly told them it was broken due to their work. When I picked the car up, it was still broken. What I experienced here was negligence, dishonesty, and extremely unsafe decision-making. I was told things were fixed when they clearly were not. I was told the car was safe when it absolutely was not. Warning lights were ignored instead of diagnosed. This shop caused multiple new problems, put me in danger, and then tried to cover it up by clearing codes instead of actually fixing anything. If you value your safety, your vehicle, or honest work--do not bring your car here. read more

This has been my go to shop for about 9 months, every time i come in i find myself wishing i would have come here sooner. I drove past this place a buncha times over the years and i thought they only worked on sports cars. I always wanted to go by. But once i was finally able to get a corvette a went by. In that first visit I learned they work on normal cars too. they do inspections and oil and i could have been coming here for years. My wife comes here now, my son comes here. I could not say more positive things about this shop. The first time i came here i was an out of towner with a blown out strut and a 900 mile drive home to make. The guys had a look at my car and told me what was goin on immediately. My mercedes is a weird car, parts tend to be a little obscure or tricky to find sometimes so i was afraid to see some crazy price or at the very least hear it was going to take ages to get my stuff in. I spoke with the owner and sort of put my situation infront of him. I was weiry to do so. I thought if he knew how far from home i was he could use this opportunity to sort of take advantage of my necessity to get home. Particularly since i lived so far away and he really has no reason to help me, being the odds that im ever in a broken car 1000 miles from home at his shop again were slim. But my gut told me to trust it and just see what they could do. After sort of airing out what i had going on, the owner basically sprung into action, making some calls, digging on the computer etc and within 45 minutes they had all my parts here. He showed me where he ordered from, and told me like it was how much the part cost him. He opted to do the repair for me at no labor cost, and sold me the part for a couple bucks above cost. they had my poor crippled benz back on the road and smooth that same day. Now i told this story, but let me also tell you this was three years ago. Since then the part they replaced has held strong and never given me an ounce of problem. I've actually been back to speed tec as customer now in excess of 5 times since then. No one has ever built my trust in the way this place did in the brief interaction i had then, and the much more extended interactions ive had with them in the time since. I would not trust anyone with my car to the degree that I trust speed tec. Theyve treated me fair every time ive ever been and the courtesy and help ive seen given to other customers from this place could never be accurately represented in a review. If you care enough about your car that you are checking reviews before going to a shop, and you care enough that youve read a review as wordy as this one. Nate has done some decent work on one of my cars. However when it comes to my truck, it was a complete and total nightmare. I bought 2000 f150 used, with high miles for sure. I took it to Nate for a timing job when it started ticking and rattling at startup, a classic issue on the 5.4 ford engine. Nate had the truck for literally months. If I recall it was around 2-3 months. I would call for an update every week or 2,and get fed a line about how busy they are. whatever, I am patient and it was a second vehicle so I let it ride. Well, I finally call again for an update and this time, Nate tells me that they completed the timing job (I had also paid for an upgraded oil pump) and that after they started it, "the cam seized" and that my engine was toast. He theorized that the larger oil pump somehow was to blame. Seemed pretty unlikely/impossible to me. I suspect someone made a mistake with the timing, because he offered to swap the engine for me if i bought a salvage engine at cost (500 bucks) and that he would swap the timing gear over to the new engine as well. I said ok, fine. Since I had been happy with the suspension work he did on my other car, I asked him to go ahead and install a lift kit on the truck as well, and paid for half of it up front. Now the waiting began again. this time, I wouldn't drive the truck again for another 12 MONTHS. Yes, you read that right, an entire god damn year. And even then, things were not right. I had him source wheel spacers for the truck as well, and after they were installed the whole vehicle shook violently. He tried to tell me this was my driveshaft. In fact, the wheel spacers were wrong. They were not hub centric which I asked specifically and was told they were. I took it to be evaluated by a different mechanic who found the issue with the wheel spacers. They had destroyed my rims, and he also found that axle was not securely bolted down and was sliding side to side. You could see the wear marks that proved this easily. The truck was also straight up missing eccentric/cam bolts for front suspension. The power steering was leaking, after I asked him to repair it multiple times. He claimed he could replace a seal on it and that would stop the leak. Well, there is no seal on that steering gear like he mentioned. He did substantially discount the cost of the lift kit, but he still lost my business and endorsement permanently because of this. Thankfully I have my own garage now and can do my own work, I will be removing the heads and timing cover because the head gasket is leaking after not even 10,000 miles on this new (used salvage) engine. So we will see if in fact he did actually swap over my timing components or just lied to me on that. *UPDATE* I just got around to pulling my timing cover, and sure enough, stock oil pump. Nate did not swap over the new timing set that I paid for and he promised to install. Very dissapointing. I would avoid this place for sure. read more
