As a recently relocated locavore to the area I was very pleased to find the Speed Trap. This place is an excellent destination to stray off the heavily trodden path with your Harley, Ferrari, Hyundai, mountain bike, or best pair of running shoes. The food is excellent, as is the locally roasted Serrano's espresso that they skillfully extract from their espresso machine. On top of the artfully crafted food and drinks, I was here the day that the health department dropped in for an impromptu inspection and the Speed Trap passed with flying colors. So not only is the food tasty, but the kitchen is clean on top of that. read more

It's good. I have visited a fair number of times, as it's on my way to somewhere else. Food is normally OK. Same with the beverages. I have never gotten anything that was inedible. I have gotten some less than fresh pastry. There is a very dedicated local following, who are in my opinion more attracted by the location and funky hipster/60's CO vibe than the products, but I concede atmosphere and feel also are important. If this business might appeal to you on that basis, go for it. Parking is on the main drag/street and a bit limited. I prefer Serrano's in Monument for the coffee and the food, but it's not always as convenient, and that's me. This place apparently also uses coffee roasted by Serrano's but they seem to be brewing it differently. read more

I love coming here. I come often during the day to simply enjoy a cup of coffee and a fresh baked muffin. The night scene is also a ton of fun. However, my absolute favorite thing is to come up here on Sundays for Quality Waffles. They are the most amazing thing you will ever taste. read more

This is a great little place in the heart of Palmer Lake. The food is fabulous and it's different, in a good way! Everything I've had there has been home made and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. It's not well suited for large groups as the seating's pretty tight in there, but the food doesn't get much better folks. Many of the plates are geared toward the more healthy conscious, but they also have some hearty, rib sticking plates too. Furthermore, the coffee is great! Definitely, one of our favorites! I had lunch there one time and I had their Lamb Stew. It was so good, I ordered a second bowl! LOL! read more

I had The Scrambled. It was alright. Although I did tried the Rustic Pie that my companion ordered. It is pretty much a different take on the egg benedict and it is really good. I also tried the Biscuit and Gravy. It was good but I suggest asking for more gravy since it was a little dry. Overall pretty good food. I highly recommend the Rustic Pie. This place rocks !! I've become addicted to their amazing imaginative and healthy food. The exterior appearance of this place will cause you to think you should keep driving .... i did for a year then ventured in one day and now frequent no less than 4 times a week ! The staff is very friendly and accomidating ! On their busy days.. yes they can get backed up a bit but to me it's part of the charm. They don't hurry you to finish up and get out .....(i suppose they could) so the trade off is you may wait a bit. Well worth it if it happens. It has a cool nostalgic vibe soo relax and enjoy. My fave is the gluten free apple crepe (not too sweet) and their BLT on homemade bread. Their bacon is awesome ! Went in for a date night on a Friday. The place was pretty empty around 6 pm. Sat at the bar, service for drinks was slow. Prices for drinks are way too high for the area. $12.50 for a manhattan....really? The laughing lab was luke warm. The French onion soup is heavy on vinegar. Used to be a very good place for food, drinks, and entertainment the last five years. Obviously has changed ownership. Not sure if the heat was working properly but freezing inside the restaurant for a mid 30's night. read more

I LOVE hanging at this place. Awesome live music almost every Friday and Saturday night, and the food is pretty good. Service is okay, every time I've visited it seems there is a shortage of staff. My husband and I have visited this place twice this summer for dinner and both times the food was amazing. The service has been a little slower - but worth the wait. I have found the servers to be very friendly and engaging. The Coq au Vin falls apart in your mouth with fantastic depth of flavor. We got the market fish twice and were impressed with the level of quality and flavor. Our family frequents the Speed Trap, not for disorganized spotty service, but for the fabulous breakfasts. This place could acquire top ratings if it could improve the service. Too many times we've had to send orders back because the incorrect item was delivered to our table. The wait staff quite often doesn't see the need to provide cutlery with the food. I've actually gone behind the bar several times to get silverware so we can eat before the food gets cold. I also carefully review the bill. Our usual weekend waitress seems to forgot about half of what we've ordered. I've never been overcharged, but quite often am undercharged. It seems an odd way to run a business, but they always seem thankful when I point out the mistake. Since we eat there so often we know the service will suck. We've seen people who are obviously trying it out for the first time get offended by not being greeted or provided with menus or even their meals after ordering, get up and walk out. I've also heard people say bikers aren't welcome. Not true, we often ride or run first then stop in to visit with friends. We're always welcome and we always get the same disjointed service even though now they know us by name. read more

Maybe the worst service I've ever experienced. It took 10-15 minutes just to get our first drink. Food took 35+ minutes for some pretty fast turn items. Main plate was cheap on main ingredients and many parts of my salad were wilted. We sat up by the bar and my leg was cut by a sharp edge. One of the servers sprayed window cleaner on the counter right in front of our food which pretty much ended the meal for us. Came here with my husband for lunch after hiking the nearby Spruce Mountain Open Space Trail. It was pretty busy. We stood by the door until we saw a sign by the bar in the middle of the room that said we could seat ourselves. Both open tables were dirty with crumbs and one with dishes, so we took the crumbs. Even though the server was nearby and saw us enter and wait by the door, she didn't greet us or tell us we could seat ourselves. We weren't the first group to do this. Eventually she came by to partially wipe our table and bring menus. I ordered the caramelized bacon pie, which I thought might literally be a pie (as they also had crepes and quiche), but it was more like a pizza about the size of a tortilla. It was okay. The side strawberry salad was good. My favorite thing was the Nutella latte that I also ordered. Overall, it is a good place in the area to get a meal, but we aren't likely to come back. read more

Found my new favorite restaurant in monument/Palmer lake. It is absolutely fantastic!! I ordered oatmeal and it was perfect and covered with fresh fruit and nuts. Also my friend ordered turkey/salami and cheese sandwich with a salad. The salad was greatly fresh and not just lettuce thrown together - had cranberries, nuts, and crumbled cheese! The food was excellent, the ambience is eclectic, and the service was friendly and fast! Totally recommend. Oh the Bloody Mary was fabulous too -- had horseradish!! read more

Really happy with this place - the gluten free crepes are great, it's nice to have a gluten free option so close. Just make sure you specify gluten free. Coffees and bar drinks are good as well. The only complaint I might have is that there is one guy behind the bar that is a sarcastic little prick at times. Yeah, when I see him working I cringe going in there for sure. He's short, has dark hair, and a chip on his shoulder bigger than him. The bartenders at night are really great though. And the other staff are nice. Gets a bit sweaty and toasty since I was told the kitchen has no ventilation to the outside. All in all though, the food is the reason to go here. That, and the free music (tipping musicians requested since they arent paid!). read more
