This would be a great place to visit more often, even though I'm up the street from the place. I have to say I always choose a better breakfast/brunch restaurant out of town. The food was good, but not spectacular and overpriced. There is no room to sit, even when not busy. And, the come to the counter or you won't get served 'tude got old pretty fast. i still meet friends on scooters there, but only for a coffee read more

Fantastic Breakfast and great service. Pleasantly surprised. Loved the crepes and the rest of the food. Servers are really friendly and fast. BUT - the owner needs some people skills. Got a coupon off of the Internet. Would not honor same. Says he is no longer with that service. Told me to exchange it. My spouse and I love this place. Always friendly service, good food, and Nutella mocha?! Guilty pleasure. My friend recently introduced me to the Speed Trap in Palmer Lake. This place is fantastic. There is such a wonderful variety of live music, and it's all free! I've heard bluegrass, funky jazz, country, rock... and I can't wait to go back for more. If you're looking for a low key evening with your friends, family, or a date, this is a place to go. The live music crowd is generally middle-aged (it changes a little depending on the music) but if you're younger don't let that stop you from going (my friends and I are in our 20's). It's a great place to hang out, socialize, relax, and just be. Great drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Amazing atmosphere. read more

Been twice now. The first time I went I left feeling very sick but turns out...I ended up being diagnosed with strep throat no less than 24 hours later. So, I can't blame that on the food. What I ate WAS very good--a salad. The next time I went was this past weekend. First off, the place is very small and crammed with tables so you will be sitting next to a total stranger and be able to touch them--quick warning. Second, there is 1 bathroom, and when I mean 1, I mean 1--shared for men and women. Finally, an honest critique about the food. I ordered the smoked salmon and asparagus crepes with a poached egg. I don't recommend. The dish came cold, no heat to the meal so that made it even worse. The salmon was so slimy I ended up pushing it all off and to the side. The asparagus was cooked well although cold, and the poached egg...again cold! The meal was not very good at all. I was hoping it was just me but my husband did not enjoy his meal either. If I go again it will not be for breakfast. Safest bet is to stick with a salad. Unfortunate. read more

The food here is always good, but we can never get service. It's hard to even call it bad service because literally no one comes by to even acknowledge your existence. We had to place an order at the bar, and after waiting for over an hour for our food we gave up. So disappointing because the place has great potential. read more

Very disappointed. My asparagus was raw as were my potatoes that came with my breakfast. Had to ask for a cup of coffee several times and never received a refill. I've been wanting to go here for awhile. Will not be returning. read more

Went to the Speed Trap for the first time last week and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was very intimate and the musical performers were incredible. The only complaint I have is with a very few of the customers who thought that everyone was there to hear them talk while the musicians were performing. Very rude, very disruptive. So for anyone out there who is planning on taking in an act there, please have some courtesy and keep quiet while the music is being played so everyone can enjoy! read more

I've only heard good things about the Speed Trap so maybe I caught them on a bad night. I wish I could say that I enjoyed my dinner but it was by far one of the worst I've ever had. I ordered a burger and my husband ordered their philly. When our dinner arrived, we had soggy greasy French fries that were limp. They were so bad that they should not have even been plated. I received a side of ketchup that had about enough ketchup in it for one fry. Beyond that, my tasteless burger was accompanied by some cheese and lettuce. No other condiments were offered. My husbands philly was nothing more than a big chunk of meat that had been precooked and taken out of the fridge and slapped onto a plainness bun. The meat was all on one side of the bun so you had to open your sandwich and cut your meat and spread it across your bun, otherwise half the bun had notthing on it. The meat was not warm and evidently came right out of the fridge before getting slapped between two pieces of bread. Again, no condiments offered. I did ask for condiments which I received but why on earth does anyone serve a burger or any type of sandwich plain? It was certainly not a $13-$14 meal. In almost 3 hours of sitting there because we were listening to the band, not once did I get a refill of water. I hear there is different staff at night and maybe it was just fluke but nonetheless it was one of the worst meals I've ever had. read more

We came for the first time a few weeks ago and it was an amazing experience! So we took some friends there and we were disappointed, it was a sunday so of course busy which we expected nothing the less but what made it worse was our server did not care and was rude even thou we said multiple times theres no rush we are content she still had attitude. I got the same thing I did the first time there because it was sooo good, and it came out completely different which i was disappointed in. Do not eat here! Food is not consistent. Cooks do not wear gloves and they are eating the food as they prepare a meal for a customer. Cheesy Potato wedge was undercooked, and when the kitchen staff was told my husband and I overheard them say, "nothing I can do about it now." This place is not worth the money! read more

Just had a great breakfast at the Speed Trap! The quiche with fruit was terrific! I mean, really, where do they get fresh pineapple in the winter in Colorado at about 7200' elevation? It tasted fresh! I really appreciate that fact that they cook from scratch. This allows them to know all the ingredients (so I can avoid my food allergies). Highly recommend. read more

We drove out of our way to come here on a Sunday after church. Food was good, service was definitely not something to drive out of your way for. Of course we did show up at noon on a Sunday, at probably their busiest time during the weekend. There weren't any tables available so we sat at the cute what looked like handmade bar (there were 3 of us). I had a Nutella latte which was the best latte I have ever had. Ordered the Speedtrap sandwich over the regular BLT because it came with alfalfa sprouts and avocado. They were out of croissants and asked me if I would be okay with a house made brioche bun which I was. When my sandwich arrived there was no avocado on it so that was disappointing but overall it was good. Tasty tomatoes, delicious bacon and good tasting fruit on the side. My husband ordered the Benedict on a crepe and he finished all of it. My daughter had the avocado toast which thankfully had a very generous portion of avocado so I was able to add some to my sandwich. Since we were at the bar we watched the staff pour glasses of water over and over, however no one noticed that our waters were empty. No one even asked how our meal was. We ended up filling our own water glasses with the hose sprayer thing behind the bar. I would come back here again for the outstanding coffee and I would try the food again but I would avoid this place on the weekend if you are looking for good service. read more

This place is fabulous. Funky little bar feel with gourmet fare. I had a smoked salmon crepe... And while the crepe itself was a tiny bit over cooked, the overall dish was so delicious, that it wasn't a factor. The portions aren't huge, but are certainly adequate, and the prices are very reasonable. I live in Castle Rock, it's about a 15 minute drive... One that I suggest you take! read more

The past two times I have been here the service has been horrible! Yes, the food is good, but to sit and wait 10 minutes before someone even comes over with water and a menu is ridiculous! The restaurant was totally slow, almost empty, with only two tables filled. After someone finally came over with a menu, I proceeded to sit at least another 10 plus minutes while being completely ignored. The owner was at the bar laughing and talking with the 2 people that were sitting there. I kept glancing back, but apparently was invisible. Then she proceeded to sit down with the customer!! Never coming over to take my order. Needless to say, I got up and left. I am astounded at the blatant disregard for a paying customer. I am an easy going person, so for me to right a review like this means something! I will never go back and will let others know. Just because someone comes into a restaurant as a single, does not mean they deserve to be totally ignored! read more

Took 15 minutes for someone to come to the table. It was a bit crowded, small place, but not enough to wait 15 minutes to bring water. Food also took a long time to arrive and was meh and lukewarm. I have no idea why anyone would give this place 4 or 5 stars. I guess if you sample the local weed, anything tastes good! read more

I would have happily given the Speedtrap 5 stars but for one thing they can't help, it's small and a bit cramped inside but this doesn't stop us from eating here often. read more
