Wow... this is the second time we have been in and what a disaster husband had the sunday waffle and it tasted like dirt really gross and the fruit was bad and tasted like vinegar. I had the scramble which wasn't that bad but the potatoes side was very bland and tasted like the potatoes sat in water too long. read more

Simply delightful! We came across this hidden gem while we were passing through the quaint town of Palmer Lake and I'm so glad we did. We first ordered drinks with the lovely server who went on to tell us that they were busy and usual times for food was 30-45 mins. At first we were taken aback, but then we realized that is the same amount of time we wait for our pizza at Monument Pizzas and Grinders. Then we spoke with other friendly people, and they shared how this is a family owned place who has put a lot of time and care into it, and the food is from quality ingredients and made to order. So we enjoyed a Painkiller and Bloody Mary, and ordered the Salmon Benedict and the Bacon Cheddar Scallion Quiche. To our surprise, the food came out right after we ordered our second round of drinks and it was delicious! I loved the hearty side salad that came with the quiche and my husband loved the Salmon Benedict. If you have a chance, we highly recommend stopping here for a lovely date. read more

The eggs Benedict served on crepes as the starch are fair. The ham overpowers the other flavors and makes it hard to acknowledge the hollandaise sauce. The presentation is appropriate and the eggs are poached perfectly. I wish a larger portion of fruit accompanied all the protein, carbs, and starch. The raspberries and blueberries are on point for the fruit crepe. The stawberries are adequate but outshined by the other berries. Portions are reasonable, on the small side for American breakfast but perfectly reasonable. The restaurant is busy and the staff work furiously to keep up with demand. There is wifi but you need to procure the password and enter it on a Cisco login that doesn't pop up unless you are using a native browser and it allows the redirect. They serve mamosa with generous portions of sparkling wine to a modest splash of orange juice. I don't favor coffee so I am unable to elucidate you on that aspect of the experience. read more

Great local find in Palmer Lake! Stop in. Eat here. You will be impressed by the diversity of their menu. The portions are appropriate with great prices and their food was fresh. I had the bacon, lettuce, tomato, egg, breakfast sandwich which is served with amazing fruit. The fruit was so fresh. This is definitely worth the stop. Delicious adult beverages that are creative. And a creative menu to see what everyone's needs. They have some gluten-free options. I had a chai tea with almond milk there was also very good. The ambience is also incredible. It's very small and intimate with local decorations and a library. A functioning library. As we were leaving the owner came out with an amazing looking dish which should be the special. It looked absolutely amazing. We will be back. But even have live music in the evenings. This is my new summer destination. read more

I thinks its ironic that their motto is "Be kind to other people" yet their service does not reflect that. Took forever to have our order taken (servers were moving at a super slow pace, ignoring the few tables that were seated, and it wasn't like they were terribly slammed with orders). Even escalated to the bartender to let her know that we were ready to have our order taken (mind you the bartender was not attending anyone either) and she said "Someone will be with you shortly" and turns her back on us. Wow. Way to step up and help out. They ran out of eggs (how unprepared can you be?) and the server notified us 20 mins after we placed our order. Would have been nice to have known this sooner so we can change our order. Mistake after mistake and received some attitude from one of the servers when we mentioned that they messed up our order. As we waited with no food, I asked for coffee refills twice and I had to remind the server yet again for more coffee. I can go on and on....just a bad experience. The Speedtrap is a great little cafe with a great vibe, great staff, great menu, and moderate prices. If you are looking for unique, this is your place. From the hand carved tables and bat to the wood walls with a mountain feeling. So if you are looking for the Colorado experience with a menu that is a step above, this is your place! Their potato layered with cheese side is off the charts and their eggs benedict on a crepe are my favorite. We travel from Colorado Springs to monument just for these delicious treats! read more

Absolutely adorable cafe in the cute town of Palmer Lake! We came for live music, and were SUPER impressed by the food! I sort of expected it to be bar food (not sure why, I obviously didn't read any reviews) but I couldn't be more wrong! We started with delicious, fresh cocktails. Perfect for a hot summer night! Then we got a side of fries. The server said they hand cut the fries in house and the chef was cutting more for us, so they brought us more to add to our plate! Everything is made in house, or so it seems! I do not like ketchup at all, but I was literally licking their house made ketchup out of the cup. There were two servers who took care of us, both were so friendly and attentive! My husband and I are both gluten free and they were super helpful and accommodating with making changes to dessert to make it GF. We were both so happy with our meal, the atmosphere, service and location! Will most definitely be back! We are trying to cut back on eating out as much as we can but as of right we can't give up our Speed Trap. Went there at the last minute of Friday before the band started playing and we had a great time. Just simply one of the best places to take your whole family and get a great (original) dinner, a few drinks and play some board games. It does get a little crowded when it is packed but the place is great. Also the owner is always trying out new things to offer for the day. After we are done eating I always order a mocha to go to keep me up for the drive home. And of course my daughter has to have one of their fantastic cookies for an after dinner snack. Was not greeted by waitresses waited over 5 minutes to get a menu, had to get my own silverware was not provided an extra plate for split plate. Owner needs to train staff better. I really wanted to love this restaurant. The highlights first, the Nutella mocha was good and so were the mocha cavanah's. Now for the bad..... Once we received our drink orders, we were told the food wait would be about 20-30 min. So we settled in. It took 55 min, and only when my husband got up to ask, as we couldn't get eye contact with our original waitress. I ordered bratwurst with eggs. It was on the luke warm side, nothing hot on my plate. Bratwurst was tasty but cold, cheddar potatoes were cold and s bit undercooked. Eggs,,which I ordered over easy, had broke and was already congealing by the time my plate reached me. The homemade bread was great! Other items ordered, bratwurst breakfast pizza, items left off pizza..... Egg benedict on crepes, the combinations was a bit odd..... Nutella crepe, was the last item to be brought to our table, it was good and warm. finally got glasses of water, after asking twice. I understand going to restaurants, especially smaller ones, on holiday's (Father's Day is when we went) but they seemed to have some kitchen line and front of the house misconnects. Smaller groups of customers were getting food sooner, and our nutella crepe came last out of 5 meals, and it was the most simplest. And with the different temperatures of all 5 of our meals. We were seated at 940am, we received our food at 1035am and finished paying bill by 1050am. The system they have in place isn't working especially with a packed house. We were placed at a small table in the back by the kitchen, which we were ok with until they had to place extra chairs in the corner for storage, in which most of us had to move for them to do so. Then the noontime entertainer came and needed us to move so he could put his guitar in the corner. At this point all we could do is laugh. I didn't tip 20%, which I normally do or more, as the wait staff never once came by after dropping off drinks or food to see if we needed anything or if our meal was ok and they seemed to intentionally avoid eye contact. I may try again but not anytime soon. :( read more

If I were grading on quality of food, it may be a 4; however, there are so many other factors at play here. 1) you literally can't move around at all bc the tables are crammed in side by side 2) worst customer service in the area. We almost feel like a burden asking for a refill on coffee 3) the prices are a bit steep for the portions and quality. Breakfast is the way to go but don't come if you are in a hurry. My wife and I visited to Speed Trap for the first time tonight. I have to say the experience was very enjoyable. The staff is super friendly. We learned tonight that as of two weeks ago it is under new ownership. The new owners (Samantha and Spencer) are very nice and accommodating. If you tried this place in the past and had a bad experience (if you're in the area) I would recommend giving this place another shot. The food was very fresh and drinks were tasty. read more

Three and a half stars. Food I've been here twice and I find the food to be hit or miss. The quiche was excellent. Given that about a third of the customers in restaurant were eating quiche, I'd imagine you can't go wrong with ordering it. The nutella crepe was waaaay too sweet to be on the breakfast menu. It may have been a sweet chocolate crepe filled with about a cup of nutella and topped with powdered sugar. It was like eating a candy bar for breakfast. The bacon was undercooked and the coffee had grounds in it. Atmosphere The vibe in this place is awesome. Really laid back with lots of stuff to look at. They have live music at night. It's a pretty small place. Service Fast and friendly. Cost Definitely NOT one $! More like $$, or even $$.5. Both times we went there, we spent over $50 for three modestly sized meals. read more

This morning I went just for coffee, and the reason I am only giving one star is because I was very surprised to see that this restaurant is not abiding by the state's guidelines for reopening . This was such a fun breakfast out with the ladies. I will agree with other reviewers that it isn't ideal for large groups since most tables seat 2-4 comfortably, but the food is really delicious and the vanilla chai latte is OUTSTANDING. I ordered a quiche for breakfast, but wish I would've tried the Eggs Benedict, oatmeal or the biscuits and gravy (which is only served on the weekend). Wow. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but this is a true gem of a breakfast place. Went for a cold and windy run on the Santa Fe Trail and ended at the Speed Trap. The misery of the weather was immediately forgotten with the delish aroma of coffee and hot food. I had the Quiche De Jour and my hubby had the BLT breakfast sandwich. Again, less than stellar service but, 5 stars is so close and easily achievable. We have been here two times and the location and atmosphere is what we love. However, the service is consistently poor and distracting the the greatness that is so close. Both times we have dined here, we waited patiently 10 minutes or so to be recognized (it is a seat yourself joint). The young and seemingly task saturated servers notice us but seem to hope that someone else will pick up the new table. While this could be expected in a huge Dennys' or IHOP, the fact you can stand in one spot and reach four tables makes this very frustrating for the patron. This goes for the duration of the service period. There are typically 4 servers working a brunch and the team work is just not there. Patrons are forced to go up to the bar or stand up and chase down a server for something as simple as a refill or the sides that were ordered...using a calendar (not a watch) to keep track of service time, I lost track or what eventually and what never did arrive...almost killing my post hike and beautiful Sunday "buzz". I really want to love this place. Amazing location close to our house and local owned which is what keeps us coming back. The food is good but would be great if the servers didn't let it continually sit under light. We will return hoping the service issues will improve. If you have low expectations of service, not in a hurry and love local places with great food, come here. read more

I had a BLT on homemade bread (they were very accommodating since it was on the lunch menu and they made it anyway) and my husband had the breakfast burrito. He said it was really good as well. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place yet seeing as how I'm a regular!! This is my favorite cafe in the entire world! The decorations are fun and whimsical, the drinks are awesome, and the food is inventive and phenomenal. OH and the service can't be beat!! The servers here are some of the nicest people! Sometimes this place gets a little crowded so service gets a little slow, so don't come here if you're in a hurry. BUT if you have the time to sit and enjoy a coffee while you wait for your food, DO IT!! It's such a charming spot! I live near Sedalia so I even like to ride my bike here and take a rest before heading back. The food is light enough that I can eat something and pedal my way back. If you're into road biking, the Speed Trap is a MUST!! Some of my favorite dishes: the lox bagel with a side salad instead of chips with maple vinaigrette, the lox crepes (truly fantastic), and the buffalo crepes. The place is cute and their recurring motto seems to be kindness. That's great but you might want to give your cashier a crash course on the concept. This morning we ordered to go food. The girl was not very welcoming or friendly. I ordered an English muffin with cheese and bacon and no eggs. It is on the menu as the Speedtrap sandwich with your choice of type of bread and meat. Apparently I confused her by not calling it the Speedtrap sandwich so she ordered me a croissant sandwich instead which is more expensive. When I received the receipt I asked her about it and with a crap attitude tells me I should have ordered the Speedtrap sandwich because they have an English muffin ala carte. HUH? Is it not YOUR job to know YOUR menu? I tried to tell her I will just take the croissant sandwich since she charged me for it but she went and got me a refund and when I stated that I still needed to pay for the correct sandwich she just waved her hand at me. She was rude. This was not my mistake but hers. When she gave us our bag of to go food I said thank you and she did not respond at all. You can have the best food in the world, but if your servers are rude and unwelcoming people will stop coming. For the record, all the other cashiers were smiling and seemed to be keen to the concept of customer service. read more
