We've eaten there twice so far and both times were great. Food is very good and the staff is courteous and friendly. I must thank the one gentleman that served us as our bill was 28 dollars and I meant to give him 38 for the meal and tip. One of the ones was actually a twenty so I gave him 57 dollars. I was already across the street getting in the vehicle when he ran to catch us and gave me the extra twenty back. I didn't catch his name but I will hopefully see him there again to thank him for his honesty. read more

In a quest to visit hidden in plain site gems in Colorado , my family ND I decided to venture out and try this spot and, OH WHAT A TRUE PLEASURE! The food was ok, but the service was terrible. Walked up to front to get menu, and they said they would come take the order. They never came. Finally went up to ask to place my order...waited on another group for them to take my order who came in way after me. Once I placed the order, waited a LONG time. Once food was delivered, soup was cold. Didn't bring the drinks we ordered. Had to go up and ask them to warm up soup and bring drinks. Not once did anyone check on us. Wow. Plenty of food if you're 3. We entered the restaurant with zero greeting and the distinct feeling we were interrupting a conversation with three people in it. We'd never been there so we didn't really understand the system. Ordered, spent $32 for two people. Received yummy scramble that literally was enough for a toddler who had been stranded on a deserted island and whose stomach had shrunk. Bread and jam were good. A young man took our order and apologized for the wait(over 10 minutes just sitting there). Once we got our food, it was good for Sunday brunch. This place was OK. I got the quiche and it was good but a little dry for my taste. I thought it was overpriced as well - $12 for a slice of quiche and fruit! I came hungry and wanted to make sure it was enough food so upgraded my fruit to a side salad (which was good), but that made it over $14. My other issue was their lack of consistency. My friend sitting next to me got a different flavor of quiche and got a whole small pie! I did not think that was fair. I talked to a someone who said she's heard multiple people complain about issues with consistency. There isn't a ton of indoor seating either. Stayed in PalmerLake Saturday night, woke up Sunday with a craving for coffee. Speed Trap was close by, decided to check it out. Ended up getting more than coffee. The staff are very friendly and there were quite a few of them, I think we saw 8 employees. Which is refreshing, rather than seeing 2 people having to do everything. We ordered the Healthy Trap and everything bagel with cream cheese. Both were very good and they didn't skimp on the cream cheese like a lot of places do. The coffee was okay... not bad but not amazing. Though they do have quite the coffee menu. I looked like this establishment goes from Breakfast place to lunch to dinner to bar/late night. Kind of neat. They had beer drafts and what looked like a full bar. Also saw advertisement for band who play there. When I'm passing through again I'll definitely stop by. read more

We tried this place for a late breakfast on a Saturday. At the point that we had been waiting an hour for our food,we asked our server if she could tell us when our order might be ready. She stated the kitchen refused to give her any estimated time and so we waited and waited. 15 minutes later our food showed up. It was ok at best. Any service focused restaurant recognizes when they have made a mistake and does something to try to make it right. When I asked what had happened the answer was we got backed up. No other explanation and no attempt to do anything but charge us for our full bill. If you want terrible service and mediocre food this is your place. As for us, we will never return. read more

We have always loved this unique breakfast cafe - and enjoyed recommending it. But today was very disappointing. Not sure we will go back. Terrible service, food took over an hour, and then the meal was lackluster. We'd reached the point where we didn't even care anymore and just ate it. The tortilla crumbled on the plate, the toast wasn't toasted and getting the basic level of service was tricky. No water refills, no jam, no communication about delays and no offer of more coffee. We did play 4 games while we waited. They have a nice selection of games if you want to make a day of it while you wait. It was a place today where 'speed' did get 'trapped'. Really a standout place in an area that has some great options. First, it is important to mention the place is small. Seating almost seems like an afterthought. However, it is what it is and I can't penalize it for that. Quality coffee offerings with just the right amount of specialty javas. We were there for Easter Brunch and 9:30am was just ahead of the crowd. All our meals were beautiful and delicious. I admired the other dishes and will try them next time. I had the Rustic Breakfast Pie. Nothing Rustic about it, more like a flatbread, but every bite was savory and perfect. I'm looking forward to trying the bratwurst & carmelized onion crepe for lunch. Thank you, Yelp! I never would have found this charmer if I didn't have the Yelp app. We were cruising down the highway in an unfamiliar area, put the word "coffee" into the Yelp search and it gave us Speed Trap. Located about 2 miles down a small two lane road, across the railroad track, next to the bicycle shop, Speed Trap is waiting for you to stop in. The place is frankly too big for the two ladies doing all the front of house work, and I suspect that there was only one person in the kitchen, but they manage to get everyone fed and watered. I can see how, if it was a busy weekend with lots of city folk swarming this beautiful countryside and demanding quiche and lattes (that's not a slam, that's what I ordered), that the service might be a little slow. So what? Adjust your expectations, and slow your roll. What did you come to the countryside for anyway? So you could rush rush rush around? Sit. Savor. From 5 stars to 2, but after two visits with abysmal "service" I'm being generous to not just write them off and give Speed Trap a 1 star rating. This morning my wife and I went in for breakfast and coffee. We were greeted immediately by a curly haired lady, a change from our last visit (see below). I thought things were looking up. We sat there for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us or taking our order. Servers walked by countless times but never stopped. These same servers were greeting and taking orders of other customers nearly as quickly as they walked in, but apparently today they didn't want our money. We WALKED OUT. On 5/18, my wife and I walked in to Speed Trap and waited in the line at the coffee bar. They made drinks for the folks in front of us, and accepted payments from them. But when it was our turn to order we were asked to grab a seat and a server would be "right with us". We sat down outside, and a server came out a few times, attending to the other tables, just not to us. My wife went inside two times to ask for someone to come take our order. Just plain ridiculous. The coffee and food is good here, but the "service" or rather lack there of is what would make me never step foot in here again. I don't have time to waste sitting around hoping someone wants to treat us right. So much for their slogan, "Be kind to other people". read more

This was one of the best breakfasts I've had since moving to Colorado. Last weekend, my partner and I decided to make the short drive from the Springs up to Palmer Lake to give the Speed Trap a try. Wow. This rivals just about any breakfast joint anywhere. I had the breakfast BLT sandwich, and my partner did a make-your-own scramble. Both were delicious. It was, in fact, so good that he ordered another BLT after he finished his scramble, because mine looked so good. One of the real highlights of the meal was the cheesy potatoes. The photo I took doesn't remotely do them justice. It's basically a pie, which is constructed of thinly sliced pottoes layered with cheese. The "crust" is the best part-- it's a big chunk of chewy cheesy goodness. Finally, the ambience was great. It was a cute little place with lots of character-- shelves of books, posters for local musical talent, a fun little bar in the middle, and pet-friendly outdoor seating. I'll definitely be back for breakfast soon. And I also hear that they do dinner and fun evening events, like Martinis and Vinyl-- sounds like fun! read more

I am so impressed at this little diner. Very unassuming building, but inside the food and atmosphere are amazing. My wife and I had the ham, egg and cheese croissant and the Buffalo breakfast pie (breakfast pizza) and everything was amazing! Don't let the cheese potatoes slip past you! Their coffee was also very tasty. I visited a second time in two days and it gets even better! The salmon crepes were great and the bacon quiche was a winner. What a find in the little town of Palmer Lake! This is a funky little coffee shop/bar right off the main road. We got there just as they were closing on a sunday afternoon, but still allowed us in and served us. The owner was wonderful. Very accomodating, she took the time to talk with us despite trying to clean up and head out. The coffee was great and the food was good too. The blueberry muffins are homemade and were warmed perfectly. The wedding cookies were excellent as well. There is music in the evenings, so we may be back for that! read more

This place is incredible and is by far one of my favorite places in the quiet town of Palmer Lake. The atmosphere is very calm and the place gives a very nice classic coffee shop vibe. There is frequently live music and the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. I've tried most everything on the menu. My personal favorite are the strawberry white chocolate muffins, which are phenomenal. I would definitely recommend stopping in if you're in town! read more

My first time and last time visiting Speed Trap!! My friend and I went there and the service was horrid!!! Our steaks where well done and the waitress would walk away mid conversation "more than once" and treated us like we where a problem or an inconvenience. Some random person came to us with a $15 gift card and we told him we didn't want it. Then they had the nerve to charge us full price without even apologizing. The environment was hostile and the food was mediocre and over cooked. Plus the wait was over extensive. I will never go back to this "Money Trap". I've even dined here many times when we've literally been the only table and the wait for the meal was still about 30 minutes. The prices are a tad steep. $50 plus tip for two adults and a child.
