DISCLAIMER: ONLY GIVING ONE STAR BECAUSE I HAD TO CHOOSE A STAR. My real choice for my last service/experience is NOT even ONE STAR. I waited a while (a little over a month) to do this review because I didn't want to be as angry as I was a month ago when writing it. We have used this Speedee/Midas for about 8 years. They have always been amazing. They have fixed my car even when other shops couldn't. I have only ever talked highly of them to people and I even would recommend them all the time. It started many years ago with a mechanic named Chris there and he was amazing. Then, Nas came along and she was equally awesome. The owner/manager lady always made sure your car got fixed in a timely manner. She was great too. Not anymore!! My husband's car started acting up on the morning of 8/12/24. So, we had it towed to Speedee. Again... we passed like 15 repair shops from where we live to bring it there. That's how much we (used to) trust them. So, they call my husband later in the day and say "you need this, this, and this done. It will be $1236 plus tax." My husband said yes because he just wanted his car drivable and back on the road. He was desperate and vulnerable. He agreed. We went to pick up the car and we paid. They waited until AFTER the work was done to say "oh... you need a new engine." What?!?! Why didn't they say that from the start?! We paid all that money and they waited to tell us that!!!!!!! So crappy. We ended up junking the car for a measles $300 and having to get him a new car. We are out this $1349.71 all because they took advantage of him when he was vulnerable. The other people would have never done that! This place has lost my business forever and I have been telling everyone how much they ripped us off. What a scam! How dare you take advantage of vulnerable customers? You should have given full disclosure about the engine BEFORE telling us we needed the work done. These people are a bunch of crooks! Be warned and stay far away! My wife took her Chevy Equinox there for a tune up and about a month later we were having lots of problems with the car. I took it to my regular good and highly rated mechanic (Mayeau Quality Car Care on 6th St) that I tried to get her to go to in the first place and they fixed the car. They informed me that it did not look like the oil had been changed in a very long time and was very low and very dirty. I showed them the $900 bill Speedee charged us and it included replacing some steering linkage which we had already had replaces a year earlier! The oil being so low had caused several sensors to fail and was causing the car to die at idle. If it had gone on much longer the car could have been destroyed. So for $900 they ripped us off on parts that were not needed and maybe not even actually installed and on an oil change that it appears was not really done! I had to give it one star but they should get negative stars. Wish I could prove all this and sue them! read more

Zero stars. This place was the place of choice for my fleet maintenance. The owners now allow a guy who pretends to not understand English when he doesn't have an answer. The same guy that wanted to use drywall screws to fix a mirror that they broke when one of our trucks were being serviced. The same guy that tried charging for the mirror they broke and told me it was worth a try. The other manager thinks Everything is funny and speaks to people like they are as ignorant as him. They also try to add maintenance to the bill that we don't ask for. Owner if you read this, you need to get rid of these guys today are they will put you out of business. Bring the lady manager back. Took my car to Midas by Academy off of Veterans. The catalytic converter was stolen. I already had my neighbor was is a mechanic inspect the car for me and told me all what I needed. He couldn't do the work because he doesn't do welding. At any rate, the lady who is a mechanic that inspected my car told me the parts I needed and gave me a verbal quote of $900 plus tax. This included the parts and labor. However, I took some time to think about it because the price was so high considering I already looked the parts up myself. My friend who was paying for the service just told me to get it done. Well I go to the register to pay for the parts and the old lady with the foreign accent "pretends" to be all confused and senile and tells me that it will be $1499 PLUS TAX. I asked to see the paper (which is attached) and they were charging me for all of these parts that they didn't need, nor were they probably going to even use . I asked the lady how did the price increase so much? She's like "I don't know what you are talking about!" I said," I was quoted a price of less than $1000" So she goes and gets the lady and comes back and says you're right, my mistake. I asked, "MISTAKE ?" This was about to be a costly mistake. So the girl walks in and said she was doing me a favor by giving me a deal. I told her I would have appreciated it if she would have let me know that she was giving me a "deal" So now I have trust issues and said I'll just pay the inspection fee. They got mad at me because I didn't want the service. I said y'all were already over charging me, BUT y'all decided to go way over board and add on additional parts and fees, parts I don't need. The other customers were in the office shaking their hands, shocked by this too! A few days later I went to another mechanic and he told me the service I needed done and the ONE AND only part that I needed. Which was exactly what my neighbor told me I needed. These people are shysters. Beware!!! You can see that I paid less than $500! Car is running great! Im literally sitting in the waiting room writing this. I used to come here but now I remembered why I stopped. I came a week ago looking to replace a tail light. A younger lady said she would call me next week with a price on a part I needed. A nice man named Keith said he would replace the part for 50 bucks. So next week comes, no call. I continued to call for three days, but the lady wouldn't call me back. Finally I got her to answer and she said she'd call me right back and never did. So I found the part myself and here I am today. Of course Keith isn't here, so that 50 bucks becomes 150. I said no, where is the lady I spoke to? They told me she was here but busy. I said go get her. Finally the guy comes back and says OK 50 bucks. So next , the older foreign lady comes in the office. I ask her a question. She literally goes off on me saying she was very busy. I said I'm trying to give you money, you should learn to talk to customers. She just kept ranting and never apologized. I walked out before i lost my temper, while she was still rambling on. Then a technician calls me while I'm at Academy and says I need 2 more services NOW for another 200 bucks. I walked back in , found someone who would speak. I said do the light for 50 bucks like I was promised or give me my car now. They did. But I would rather sell my car and walk everywhere than come back to this hell hole. I had paid over a thousand dollars and everything is working perfect! I cannot believe how fast and friendly this location is . This place is king of scamming customers. Avoid like the plague if you care about your car and money. They didn't know I have experience with car maintenance and tried to hustle me. I don't have tools to do maintenance on my car like I used to when I lived with my family and we had a garage that was professional because my brother is a mechanic. Well, I went in for a simple oil change because they had a "special" $21.00 seventeen point check to check the air filter, brakes, tire treads etc... Now mind you I keep my car maintained in text book fashion. I follow the manufacturers recommendations for everything. my car had no symptoms of anything going in. I just was due for an oil change. When it was time to settle the bill, they came up to me with a long list of things that "needed work"... I was flabbergasted. I knew something was fishy because I maintain my car to the Tee and there was no problems. Later That night I was backing up and in my reverse camera I saw that my car was burning oil, a bunch of smog was coming out. The next day the car was idling rough and the car lacked power. There was so much smog coming out of the exhaust!!! I had never seen from my camera any smoke come out of my exhausts before!!! Naturally, I'm concerned about what the heck has happened to my engine. I took it to the dealer, and they told me there was just too much oil added. They drained the excess and told me things should go back to normal after the car burns off the remaining excess oil. What they also told me and SHOWED ME was the brake pads being thin as heck. Time to replace them. I thought speedee was supposed to have checked in their 17 point check? So now I'm pissed... I checked everything myself and low and behold, That list speedee gave me was contradicted by the dealership and I looked at all of those points myself too. Speedee added too much oil to my car to cause those problems to get me to bring the car back to them so they could make money off me. they didn't check my brakes like they were supposed to have and that is very dangerous, particularly with how low my pad were. I thanked the dealership and went to my local advanced auto bought some tools and went to work. I cleaned my throttle body and it was pristine, silver on the external side, but the inside was completely carboned up because of the oil that was burned from the excess put in by speedee. I needed to replace my map sensor because all the oil and carbon from the smog from speedee putting too much oil in my car ruined the sensor. My spark plugs needed to be wiped off but underneath that wet oil carbon, the spark plugs were pristine. Speedee even told me to expect the check sensor light to come on due to the map sensor... I thought that was funny they would say that and suddenly a bunch of problems occurred. They wanted $200 to replace that sensor when I did it my self for $8. And it's simple like replacing a tire cap. Just one bolt. I'm really pissed at this speedee... just this one. I've been to a few others before and they have all done adequate work. But this one... they have Bad business practice and didn't check my brakes!!! If the brakes faulter, you die in a car crash!!! You kill others in a car crash!!! The fire from a car crash can burn down the city!!! and to top it off, they did check my air filter... do you know how I know they did? BECAUSE THEY BROKE THE CLIP ON MY AIR FILTER BOX!!!! Speedee said I needed tires when the dealership said not yet. Tires cost $200 a piece. I checked too, treads were lower on front but not yet in Need of replacement, I agree with the dealership. I replaced my brake pads for $70, dealership wanted $200. but the dealership was correct and honest about that. I could have died if those pads went out... speedee didn't check when they said they did in their 17 point check. Don't ever go to this speedee. you get what you pay for a cheap horrible oil change that could have ruined my catalytic converter which is super expensive and thats how they F you in the A. The oil change is cheap but the problems from adding too much oil causes to your car can cost thousands upon thousands.... Oh... and it took 2 hours for them to change my oil when there was only one other customer there and plenty of workers and lanes to change another customers oil... so they either added too much oil on purposed or their lazy technicians don't know what the heck they are doing... take your pick... It takes me 10-15 minutes to change my oil and oil filter when I used to do it myself.... I'm pissed... I'm really pissed... don't go to this one if you value your car, money, or life. And don't bother trying to buy me off speedee! I see what you tried to do with the other yelp customer who had an issue with your crappy service. If you don't want bad reviews, have good business practices!!! read more

This is the first time I have written a comment concerning my experience at any business. I have taken my car to this business for close to 15 years. In the end of May I went for my usual oil change. After I was home I noticed a gigantic amount of oil underneath my car. Next I checked my oil and there was not a drop of oil left in my car. Whoever serviced my vehicle forgot to put the gasket on the oil plug. I called the store immediately and they came to my house to give me another oil change. At this point, six weeks later, the management has yet to clean my driveway in a proper manner. This may sound picky but I have multiple oil stains covering my driveway. When speaking to the management. She acts like that this is an inconvenience. By the way, I was still charged for the oil change and now I will have to pay someone to pressure wash my driveway. I wish I could give this place a 0. Came in for an oil change on 08/18. Ran great on the drive home, but from then until this morning (08/20) the check engine light would intermittently come on and the oil pressure kept dropping. Now, I am aware that my vehicle has an oil leak. I bought it that way and I brought it in for an oil change that way. I check the dipstick regularly (about every other day) to make sure that it is not losing enough oil to require me to add anything or pull it out of commission for repairs. The leak is currently has is minor and likely coming from the oil pan. While I waited for the mechanics to finish the oil change, and attendant came in to the lobby to tell me about the leaks. I told him that I was aware, and inquired whether or not they noticed a severe depletion in the amount of oil when they drained It, just so I could essentially have another opinion as to whether or not there was an issue I needed to address sooner than expected. The attendant told me no, that the amount of oil that I brought the vehicle in with was fine. Provided the attendant knew what he was talking about, his comment would indicate that there was no issue with the oil leak that needed attention. So, when I went to check the dipstick this morning, it was practically bone dry. I decided to check the last thing that had been done in relation to the engine oil and found that the filter was loose. I tightened it by hand and added more oil, up to spec. Realizing that the leak issue--which only occurred with such severity between 8/18 and 8/20, coinciding with the days between the service at this location and my assessment--was most likely the loose oil filter, I called to express my concern and ask for a refund. A refund because I don't give second chances. Do the job right or lose a customer. I have been maintaining older vehicles for years now. I know my way around basic engine maintenance. Long story short, I was denied a refund and told multiple times that the business couldn't do anything unless I brought the vehicle in. The hypocrisy in their request was that I addressed and fixed the oil leak/loss problem that they had created from their shoddy work, and obviously if I brought the vehicle in they would say, 'well, there is oil in the engine and the oil filter is tight,' which would void my complaints about their shoddy work because I fixed the issue AND WOULD HAVE HAD TO DO SO TO EVEN DRIVE IT BACK TO THEIR LOCATION IN THE FIRST PLACE. Y'all, this one guy out of the three people I spoke to on the phone even had the audacity to accuse me of trying to ruin my own car so I could someone get another one. What?? No accountability. Mistreatment of customers. Lack of knowledge. Blaming me and attempting to manipulate me into returning to the shop so I could give them more money? No thanks. This place is awful, they don't know what they're doing, and they'll treat you like garbage if you say anything about the quality of their work. Avoid this place at all costs, it's too much of a gamble. Going to keep doing my own maintenance from now own. I highly recommend for anyone reading this that made it this far to do your own oil change rather than opt for this place. It's really not difficult (unless you have one of those oil filters in a relatively inaccessible location) and you'll probably do a better job than these guys even with no previous experience. Save yourself the headache of dealing with rude, manipulative people. read more

Do not go here, we were scammed and it costed us an entire engine. We used to go to this shop for oil changes on both our vehicles. We had a problem with one vehicle losing coolant, after multiple times bringing it here and them tell me that nothing was wrong (we were adding coolant everyday) we finally asked them to check for a blown head gasket. They checked and told us we needed a new engine. Well we decided to let them put a new one in and they managed to break my hood latch in the process. When I picked my car up thinking all would be fixed and the new engine which we were assured was under warranty would fix our problem sure enough it starts over heating not even a month later. We bring it in and they tried to tell us nothing was wrong mind you the car is still losing coolant! Well after asking them to check it multiple times they just sent us off saying there's nothing they can do. Another mechanic looked at it and immediately determined that this engine also had a blown gasket. So now we're stuck with the same problem and a $6,000 bill! So much for warranty.. absolutely ridiculous read more

I wish I could give this place a negative 0. I went in for a brake tag after work. I called prior to coming 45 minutes in traffic out of my way however, as far as I knew this was the only place opened until 6pm. I called and the lady asked what parish was my car registered in? I replied Jefferson..... because it is. When I get there she tells me after discussions with a coworker " they won't let us do brake tags for the city of Westwego " !! I do not live in WestWego . I live in AVONDALE. If I called the police right now they would send Jefferson Parish Police not WestWego police. At this point I'm furious because my address has been the same since 2005! I've had 8 cars all registered to the same address and never had a problem in this area of Metairie or any other area getting brake tags. At this point I felt like this was discrimination. My dash cam was on so I got every word on camera. Then she goes in to say " then there is an address on your registration from Plano Texas" ! That's the finance company DUMMY! WTF DOES that have to do with the address that is on my drivers license, insurance, or registration. MY CAR LEGALLY BELONGS TO ME AND ALL OF MY PAPERWORK IS IN ORDER. They suck and I say take your business elsewhere. You all might as well stop selling brake tags if you are going to pick and choose who should get them. I hope you lose every customer!!!! read more

After moving to the area last summer, I still haven't found a good local mechanic..so I've been taking my car to "chain brand name" places. I gave up on Firestone after they overcharged and under delivered on both mine and my boyfriends cars. So I was a little scared to go to Midas when I was having a very obvious muffler problem. The lady greeted me immediately and signed my car in. An hour later they had my car up on the lift and she took me back to the garage to show my the extent of the damage (it was pretty gnarly). She gave me a quote and said it would prob take a day bc of the work that had to be done. They were very upfront with cost and what was happening to my car. She didn't push or pressure me into getting anything else done (besides an oil change that I requested), which I REALLY appreciate. read more

I brought my car there for simple alignment, once I entered the lobby young lady backed my car out the spot and floored my car back towards the garage hitting at least 40mph in a parking lot, when I confronted her about it she claimed she was testing my car, I have a snapshot and it lowered my score for rapid acceleration, very unprofessional, run by children. You bring your car there for service yet they do things that could break it even more. read more

If I could give this business zero stars, I would. I brought in my car to get A/C service done over a year ago. They charged me $1400 dollars and supposedly repaired it. I've brought it in several times to get it looked at it and they just out free-on in it. After 3-4 times of doing that I asked if they would look for what's causing it and they found a leak. After months of trying to get in touch with them about the replacement part they ordered for me, I finally go back in and talked to the manager today. She was extremely rude and accused me of getting in a wreck and causing the damage, which I've never been in a wreck. After going back and forth with her, she asked me to leave. Great place to get your oil changed! Yesterday was my 2nd time I've gotten my oil changed here. They took my car change the oil and didn't come in trying to tell me I need new tires or an air filter. Just got what I came in here for. Even when checking out the man said everything looks good may want to get this checked out in the future. I asked about my tires because another place told me I needed to change them within the year which surprised me because I do drive a lot, but my car's only 3yrs old. The man at speedee told me they looked fine and maybe in a year and half or 2 I should look into new ones. I respected the honesty and not trying to take my question and run with it. The inside waiting room is very clean and the oil change didn't take long. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because of the under the breathe comment I got for showing up within the last hour of closing, which I can't completely bash because I understand the feeling. But I probably wouldn't have gone here if they closed at 5 since that's when I get off work. So staying open till 6 helps me and lots of others!! read more
