Once inside I liked the old school feel I get it in Green Cove. Now since I'm not getting coffee of course went with breakfast food. I will say the price after for sure fair and a lot sounds good but I went with The Lumberjack which is a waffle, egg cheese, and bacon sandwich and the Biscuits and Gravy... don't need to think. I need to explain that one. Good come out in good time and I got into the Biscuits and Gravy first. This was a bit of a letdown. It's pretty much a biscuit with a Turkey Sausage patty, then covered in White Gravy. Now, turkey can never beatbe sausage, let's be honest here. The main problem was the gravy it was just so bland. Almost reminded me of the powdered stuff you get at the store and make it home. The Lumberjack was better and had the mix of sweet and salty but really was just OK. Now I'm sure this place is great if you're a coffee drinker but the breakfast just wasn't it for me.

The little salad had a very nice dressing and the eggs had a very tasty seasoning. Overall what a nice way to break your fast. Service--9.5/10. The only complaint I have is service was a little slow and it was a very cold morning one of our frozen days here in Northeast Florida. The combination of that meant because the young lady at the counter was taking another order that my food sat for a couple of moments before it was brought to me, and I was starting to get quite cool. Other than that, the food was fantastic, and she was clearly hustling to the best of her ability. Atmosphere--10/10. A very charming little shop. The exterior and interior are both so cute and quaint. It makes you feel very welcome. It could be a little warmer inside, but usually down here in Florida. We're dealing with the opposite end of the thermometer and trying to keep things cool so these few frosty days that we had this month definitely were more than most of us are prepared for.

With the new Cathedral Oaks Parkway now open, I was determined to check out more of the local area…read moreby bike. As a fan of both books and coffee, I figured this this was the perfect place to start. The little cafe is toward the back of the business. On he way, you're surrounded by a multitude of books organized by genre. The barista was cold and did not greet. I tried to make a little small talk to get a feel for what to order since they're the experts on what they serve, but he did not seem receptive to the gesture. I settled ultimately on a caramel latte. Seeing as how they also had breakfast sandwiches on their menu, I was also excited to try out their sausage, egg, and cheese croissants. Needless to say, I was disappointed when the barista, without uttering a word, went over to the fridge, grabbed a Jimmy Dean-style frozen sandwich, unwrapped it from plastic, and threw it in the microwave without explaining that's actually what they served. The value and quality for drinks aren't bad at all, but compared to some of their local competitors, I've seen and tasted better. The food was a disappointment to say the least, but it does look like they have some interesting baked goods for sale for those interested. Service could use some improvement as well to promote sales on their books as well as inform customers that they're about to order something they could throw in the microwave themselves. I don't recall seeing indications for prices on the books, and at this point, I didn't want to try to start up a conversation with the barista again either. There is free wifi if you're looking for a place to work. For better or worse, there is also a children's area that could be a source of noise if you intended to find a relaxing atmosphere. I'd be willing to give this place a try again since some of these issues appear to be service-related.

This is what my retirement plans looked like, from the books to the coffee shop, to the local displays of baked goods and other items. Our barista was excellent. We were saddened to learn that this quaint place was on borrowed time, and time was running out. When the lease expires, it will be no more unless someone else comes along to fill the void. I certainly hope that the torch will be passed and this place can continue to bring good vibes to others as it did for us.

I have…read moreloved Parlor Doughnuts very much so when I had to schedule an appointment instead of going downtown, I decided to go to Fleming Island because I could stop a Parlor Doughnuts. But it was an overall disappointment. I placed my order online and parked as I was parking. I saw two people walk in and by the time I got out of my car and inside one was with the lady at the espresso machine, and the other was waiting in line by the donuts since I had a pick up order, I went over there to try to pick it up, but the lady fiddling with the machine was the only one visible at the time and she was having a time with that machine. I think by the time the lady waiting got her drink. It was probably a good 10 minutes. Meanwhile, because I have physical issues I sat down to wait. In that time about six other people had come in. Now, suddenly another employee appears, and he pulls out a box for a pick up order and started walking into me and then when I said that's not me he then found one of the other people in line who it was for and she indicated she also wanted to go ahead and get a drink so he started helping her with that despite her being one of the last people to walk in the store. Meanwhile, the other lady finally finished the coffee for the first lady and began making this coffee for the second lady from the pick up order. Meanwhile, the gentleman goes over and skips me who was there first and just getting a pick up order that was already placed and start helping another lady in line when he finishes with her he goes to help another gentleman. Meanwhile, I'm sitting there and I'm just trying to get my order picked up that I had already placed long before any of these people appeared in store. So when I finally got my order, it was a good 20 minute wait in store. As for the food itself, I can't say I felt it was the normal expectations I had of Parlor Doughnuts. I ordered a turtle doughnut, a churro doughnut, and a cookies and cream doughnut for my family. Looks wise, they were OK except for mine. Mine was the turtle donut and sorely lacking on the nuts as you can see in the picture. The other ones looked appealing visually however it stopped right there. Whereas I'm normally accustomed to a crispy outside and a flaky interior. This doughnut had a brown exterior, but it wasn't very crispy and the interior was gummy. Very disappointing. So as far as the atmosphere on that regards, the restaurant is very charming. It's well located for its neighborhood. It's generally clean looking however the floors were very sticky.
