Stopped in for lunch on a Monday afternoon, and was greeted immediately by the staff. Took a few minutes to look over the menu and got the Pan con Bistek (steak sando) and chicken and rice kids meal for my son. The food took about 10 minutes to come out, so if you're pressed for time I would call ahead. Also ordered the yuca fries and tries leches for dessert. The food was good, but I felt like the sandwich was missing something, the portion of chicken and rice was a little small, but my son is a greedy growing 2 year old, we both loved the fries. I probably won't try here again unless I'm in the mood for some fries and tres leches, which could happen soon. The atmosphere seems great for a nice dessert or snack.

Ordered the salsas and Yucca Fries. The salad is mostly iceberg lettuce, not much of the other things that brings the salad together. The dressing, not a fan, too vinegary and watery. The chicken added to the salad is small and dry. Not so fresh avocado, starting to brown. Not so great salad... 15$ for a plate of lettuce and dry chicken chucks.

Fleming Island location. My husband tries Cuban sandwiches everywhere and he said this was the BEST!! I had the tuna melt without the melt-lol. Delicious!! Clean and attractive restaurant with nice staff. Definitely will return.

Stopped here on a whim. Got a great little sandwich, drink and snacks to go. Very chill atmosphere and very hopeful staff that helped me pick from the menu. You order at the counter and then sit down and they bring it out.

1928 continues to be one of my favorite spots in Fleming Island with consistently good food and service and delicious coffee.

Popped on on my lunch break. Cuban sandwich was sooooo good!! Reminded me of down south in Miami. Very authentic and delicious They have canned sodas and water. As well as many Cuban coffee options and matcha! Will have to try some desserts or pastries next time they look super amazing!

Be vewwwy quiet...there's an Elite Yelper in Su Casa. Haha! Food was fresh, authentic, and delicious! Desserts very tempting I enjoyed sweet plantains and a coconut flan that I ate most of it waiting for my food. I attempted 1 bite then I COULDNT STOP! YOUVE BEEN WARNED haha! Service is at the counter, then seat yourself. Casual diner feel Staff great and explain any items without an eyeroll. [If you've been to Miami as an English speaker-you know it happens sometimes] Atmosphere cute clean and inviting. Also, and important info! Stop in to try a coffee. The Cuban coffee choices are well worth stopping in!

I moved up from Miami just over 4 years ago and was really missing the authentic Cuban food .... I'm truly thankful that this restaurant opened in Fleming Island and brings me the true flavors that I was missing. From their ropa vieja, to the pollo a la plancha and their palomilla steak... absolutely delicious ... be prepared for explosions of flavor and depth of seasoning. The staff is always very friendly and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. I just wish they were open later for dinner sometimes. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't try this place out! And don't forget to grab some tequeños, pastelitos and croquetas to go!

We met my mother-in-law here for lunch at the new Fleming Island location. She has never been to 1928 Cuban Bistro. We told her she was in for a treat. Everything we had was very delicious! My mother-in-law said she can't wait to go back. The only negative was this cafe is so loud (music, other peoples conversations and employees talking with each other about orders)! Even when there weren't many people in there it was still noisy and we could hardly hear each other at the table. Overall we LOVE 1928 Cuban Bistro! Everything we have ever gotten was delicious. Service is always friendly. Cafe is always clean.

A friend and I wanted to try a new place, so this was the selection for lunch. When we walked in there were 2 employees behind the counter, and just a couple empty tables. We weren't sure if we were to order at the counter or at the table, so selected a seat and proceeded to the counter to ask. You do order there, so we made our selections and sat down. We had both ordered water. They didn't tell us it was self-serve, so we found the water area and helped ourselves to water, napkins, and plastic silverware. We had the exact same order. Yucca fries and a Cuban. The fries came out, nice and hot, but very little seasoning, and needed salt (a lot). The green sauce that came with it was very good, but you get a tiny amount and didn't last for all the fries. The Cubans came out several minutes later (would have expected both items together?). They were nice and hot. Pressed to an extent. Meat was not quite as tender as would have liked, and again, was a bit bland. I guess I was somewhat disappointed after all the positive reviews. I lived in the Tampa Bay area for a long time, and they have a large Cuban food selection, so maybe I was spoiled? I don't think I'll be back. Quite an expensive lunch and mediocre food.

We dined here for lunch and sat outside on the patio. We enjoyed the tequenos and the Cuban although we both agreed the salad had room for improvement. We would come back to try the pastries and breakfast items

Food was great and for this side of town I'm glad I can get my Cuban fix. Living in CA I was spoiled with Porto's and now here in FL it's hard to find something comparable so 1928 did justice...I will definitely be back. Service was quick and efficient and ambiance was quaint and clean!

The food was so good and very generous portions! You walk up to the counter to order and then they bring the food to your table. The staff was very friendly. There's not much seating inside, but it is a nice space.

Eureka (I have found it)! Hollywood in Florida!!!!…read more JUST like Dr. Indiana Jones combing through the jungles seeking his ancient museum artifacts, I was navigating the curvy wilds of the Jacksonville Southpoint area, located near I-95 and JTB. The best things in life require some effort to build your appetite, and whereas I did not collect a golden idol like Dr. Jones, I was rewarded instead with a cheerful new friend and one of the absolute FRESHEST sandwiches in JAX! Nestled between the sparse woods and surrounding offices you will find happy, loyal diners who fill Hollywood Heroes and Subs each lunchtime to the point where the line stretches out the door. I had just seen the last of the lunch crowd smiling and saying goodbye for the day to our energetic and upbeat host, Founder, sandwich artist and Jacksonville native Kevin Porter, an actor turned restaurateur -- known for roles including "Lazer" in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, plus appearances in Daredevil and General Hospital. Something that cannot be "acted" around was his genuine welcome and desire to roll out the red Hollywood carpet for all who make the journey (yes, it's a REAL red carpet)!! This sweet shop is the perfect size, and has a significant amount of Hollywood memorabilia all around to keep you engaged while chatting with Kevin as he works his magic. And what he produced was a treasure of cheese and meats that made me forget about whatever might have been chasing me through those woods to get there! J/K In between wonderful conversation with Kevin, each bite of my MASSIVE "The Towering Inferno" hot hero (pepperoni, Genoa salami, cappy and melted provolone) on fresh baked Village Bread made me realize just how huge and delicious this thing was. Kevin promised that the one pictured is exactly what every customer will get...he prides himself on highly generous portions at fair prices...and man, did he deliver!! I would have been completely satisfied with HALF, but NO!!!! There sat its twin, begging for sacrifice to the stomach Gods. I was only too happy to oblige! The owner Kevin = engaging, friendly, talented with his craft, makes you feel like you drove through the woods to come home to your happy place. The ambiance = bright, colorful, great memorabilia, puts you as the star of the show. The sandwiches = creative in name and product with fresh being the operative word, this sandwich hit above its price point and I can't wait to try to the rest of the menu! So no, I didn't get chased by a boulder, or leave with Dr. Jones' golden idol, but I did get a Golden Belly from my experience, and the knowledge of why hundreds of hungry lunch- goers seek this "Temple of Delish" every day!! Crack the whip and corral your family into the car for this absolute treat in the core of "ancient Jacksonville!!"

I got a bite of my brother's meatloaf, mashed potatoes and broccoli and also my sister's smothered fried chicken breast. Both entrees were flavorful, seasoned right and cooked perfectly! And my BIL's Buffalo Chicken Wings were excellent. Definitely a great place to share food and experience others' dishes. Save room for the desserts! Made in-house and the selections are great. We shared the warm chocolate chip cookie skillet with ice-cream and whipped cream and the chocolate cake. So good! Look forward to going again for a piece of their Key Lime pie. We left full and really happy. Prices are extremely reasonable and they do have Happy Hour specials. Can't believe I've never been to this neighborhood gem before!? Highly recommend!

This place has apparently only been open for a week when we sat down, so there is probably a few 'new place' exceptions/errors that should improve over time. To be completely honest, I know next to nothing about Cuban food, having experienced maybe 2-3 Cubano sandwiches in my entire life in different parts of the world. My buddy and i decided to tread lightly and get some initial impressions of the appetizers. He ordred the Tostones, while I got the 'Cuban Cigars'. The tostones were a solid 7/10, and came as 3 pretty pieces. The "Cuban Cigars" were described as 'Cuban sandwich-flavored crispy shells', and came served in a Cohiba ashtray (top marks for presentation). They tasted ok, probably a 6.5/10, and the best way I can describe it is they tasted like Hispanic flavored Chinese eggrolls. We also ordered the Pina colada frozen drinks, which were a bit too sweet for my taste buds. In all fairness, I can't give a confident review of the entire place based on these 3 orders, and will likely come back for some of the steak entrees. They have a live music on weekends, so if you're not fully sleep on a Sunday evening, I suggest popping in here for a snack and a nightcap, listen to some oldies, before heading home.

A new Cuban gem in Fleming Island! Tried Habana Mariel Cuban Restaurant (Mindy's Cuban Kitchen for…read moreshort) after seeing a movie at the AMC theaters in Fleming Island. What a delight! The food and atmosphere were outstanding. Their menu is filled with a wide selection of Cuban favorites making it difficult to choose. My wife had the stuffed Mahi Mahi that was a large fish portion, breaded, perfectly fried and stuffed with ham and cheese. She had wonderfully spiced black beans and sweet plantains to round out the meal. I had one of their specialties, Rice with Shrimp. It was a huge mound of delightful and perfectly spiced Sazon rice stuffed with approximately a dozen or so small shrimp that was to die for and came with 4 large sweet plantains. Both dishes were large enough that we had leftovers for lunch the next day. The restaurant is nicely decorated in Cuban chic and there is authentic Cuban/latin music playing in the background to help give the restaurant a Cuban vibe. We didn't have room for dessert so we'll have to try that the next time we visit. The only thing keeping me from giving a 5 star review was the fact that the restaurant only had one server and though she was very nice, helpful in making selections and tried to be prompt, as the restaurant filled up, it was difficult to handle all the duties effectively. However, this should not deter anyone from going to Habana Mariels for lunch or dinner as I'm sure that the owners (who also own Palermo's in Orange Park--see my reviews for that wonderful Puerto Rican restaurant--will rectify this situation soon. Please give "Mindy's" the short name for Habana Mariels a try. You won't regret it.

That portion was enormous, that cut was elegant, and I nearly applauded when it arrived. Service? Oh, darling. Legendary. I'm almost certain his name was Josh.
