A cute little eatery in a small strip of shops in Fleming Island. Food--10/10. The cafe bombon was perfect and I will have dreams about that bread. The little salad had a very nice dressing and the eggs had a very tasty seasoning. Overall what a nice way to break your fast. Service--9.5/10. The only complaint I have is service was a little slow and it was a very cold morning one of our frozen days here in Northeast Florida. The combination of that meant because the young lady at the counter was taking another order that my food sat for a couple of moments before it was brought to me, and I was starting to get quite cool. Other than that, the food was fantastic, and she was clearly hustling to the best of her ability. Atmosphere--10/10. A very charming little shop. The exterior and interior are both so cute and quaint. It makes you feel very welcome. It could be a little warmer inside, but usually down here in Florida. We're dealing with the opposite end of the thermometer and trying to keep things cool so these few frosty days that we had this month definitely were more than most of us are prepared for. read more

Very good empanadas today. My favorite is the Cuban sandwich empanada. They have pork, ham, Swiss, mustard and pickle and are very juicy. We also got beef. There was a special today, a box of six for $20. But it's $1.00 more each for the Cuban empanadas. Service was fast and friendly. read more

I really love that 1928 has several locations now as I just really love their food. I enjoy the idea of the family owned business and just excited to support. This location is tucked away across from the high school, into the little center across the street. Stopped in for lunch on a Monday afternoon, and was greeted immediately by the staff. Took a few minutes to look over the menu and got the Pan con Bistek (steak sando) and chicken and rice kids meal for my son. The food took about 10 minutes to come out, so if you're pressed for time I would call ahead. Also ordered the yuca fries and tries leches for dessert. The food was good, but I felt like the sandwich was missing something, the portion of chicken and rice was a little small, but my son is a greedy growing 2 year old, we both loved the fries. I probably won't try here again unless I'm in the mood for some fries and tres leches, which could happen soon. The atmosphere seems great for a nice dessert or snack. read more

Ordered the salsas and Yucca Fries. The salad is mostly iceberg lettuce, not much of the other things that brings the salad together. The dressing, not a fan, too vinegary and watery. I moved up from Miami just over 4 years ago and was really missing the authentic Cuban food .... I'm truly thankful that this restaurant opened in Fleming Island and brings me the true flavors that I was missing. From their ropa vieja, to the pollo a la plancha and their palomilla steak... absolutely delicious ... be prepared for explosions of flavor and depth of seasoning. The staff is always very friendly and the restaurant is clean and welcoming. I just wish they were open later for dinner sometimes. We met my mother-in-law here for lunch at the new Fleming Island location. She has never been to 1928 Cuban Bistro. We told her she was in for a treat. Everything we had was very delicious! My mother-in-law said she can't wait to go back. The only negative was this cafe is so loud (music, other peoples conversations and employees talking with each other about orders)! Even when there weren't many people in there it was still noisy and we could hardly hear each other at the table. Overall we LOVE 1928 Cuban Bistro! Everything we have ever gotten was delicious. A friend and I wanted to try a new place, so this was the selection for lunch. When we walked in there were 2 employees behind the counter, and just a couple empty tables. We weren't sure if we were to order at the counter or at the table, so selected a seat and proceeded to the counter to ask. You do order there, so we made our selections and sat down. We had both ordered water. They didn't tell us it was self-serve, so we found the water area and helped ourselves to water, napkins, and plastic silverware. We had the exact same order. Yucca fries and a Cuban. The fries came out, nice and hot, but very little seasoning, and needed salt (a lot). The green sauce that came with it was very good, but you get a tiny amount and didn't last for all the fries. The Cubans came out several minutes later (would have expected both items together?). They were nice and hot. Pressed to an extent. Meat was not quite as tender as would have liked, and again, was a bit bland. I guess I was somewhat disappointed after all the positive reviews. I lived in the Tampa Bay area for a long time, and they have a large Cuban food selection, so maybe I was spoiled? I don't think I'll be back. Quite an expensive lunch and mediocre food. read more

The food is not very flavorful and "way" over priced for beans and rice. The portions are disappointing for what you pay for. This is a "subpar" Cuban restaurant at best. The service is slow as well. For a Cuban restaurant, the selections are also very limited. read more

Busy day ! It sure gets hot in here when it's poppin and busy ! Verrry small inside but there are tables and chairs outside as well! Cute location though. But also not the closest one for me. I was there this summer. My friend and I told them we were eating there. I ordered a salad containing same fruit. My friend ordered a spinach type sandwich. Hers came out as if she was eating there...a plate and utensils. Mine was given to me as if it was a to go item. plastic clamshell type plasic container and disposable fork taped on top. The salad was mushy as if made a day or 2 or 3 earlier. I was told all salads came as if to go . On top of that, residue from previous 'diners' were still on the table. Takes a little longer than you might expect (about 25 minutes for me today because they were slam packed busy), so give yourself a little time, but it's always worth the wait.
