I had problems with my car and thus was the pace to go, but when your customer and you take your car to get a diagnosis and they want to charge you $240 fir diagnose. Kind of seems like the prices are not fixed based, it's more like how much we can get. So yeah I don't recommend this place at all. I took my car there for a starter replacement and my car would not start on occasions when I found out that the connector to the starter cable was not connected appropriately. The way it should be connected. That cost me an extra $250 to get fixed somewhere else to get fixed. Ever since I've gone somewhere else to get my car fixed. I've noticed that. I'm not dealing with new car problems. And yeah it seemed like all the time I went there it would be one thing and right after that one thing, it world be another thing shortly after. The red flag should have been the fact that the customers there know George who is the owner there by name and it's because those are repeated customers that go there. Over and over again. (OVER ONE THING THAT BECOMES ANOTHER THING SHORTLY AFTER.) SO DONT GO THERE at all, or you'll experience the same going back shortly after. I do not recommend this place. I was in a hurry to get my brakes replaced before a long road trip, they took my car in on a thursday morning and told me it would be done the same day. However, I never heard back that day so I called right before they closed and they said it wouldnt be ready until the next day and said I also need new sway bar links. That was fine with me. The next day I picked up my car and headed off on my road trip. Once I got out of traffic and was able to get up to 65mph on the freeway, I noticed my alignment was way off, car was pulling right really bad. The following week after I returned from my road trip, I took the car back and explained the alignment was messed up. They took it in and worked on it right away, they gave it back to me later that day and said everything is aligned now. Not true, the car was still pulling right and now the steering wheel was turned left and no longer centered.... I decided to go elsewhere to get an alignment since I didnt trust this place anymore, the alignment is now perfect again. Now 5 months later, my brakes have gone out completely... I was in shock. Took it into a trusted mechanic and they told me whoever last replaced my brakes did not bleed them correctly which caused my master cylinder to fail thus why my brake pads are already worn out... I typically would take my car back to Speedy Tune & Brake, but I have lost all trust and do not want them ever working on any of my cars. read more

I definitely will never come back! I brought my car in got charged and arm and a leg for my serpentine belt that was making noise. They said it was the tensioner. That it would be fixed and my car is still making a loud noise at idol. And now my water pump is leaking and I think they just messed my car up more. I gave them a call to ask for help and no they are avoiding my calls!!!!! read more

We have used Speedy Tune before for brakes and general mechanic needs in the past. This week our 2014 Subaru Crosstrek was making some odd engine noises so we took it in for a diagnostic. Joey was unfortunately the bearer of bad news regarding the transmission but he directed me to Subaru for potential coverage under an extended drivetrain warranty which ended up applying. This shop is a hidden gem in Encinitas. My cat broke down en route to an appointment in San Diego. As I was from out of town, the tow truck driver recommended them. It is a family owned business--father and son working there. They were extremely professional. What I liked was that when they diagnosed the problem, they thoroughly explained it to me and gave me the proposed solutions. I have family in the area who happened to live on the route that the owner was taking that night so he was kind enough to take me to my relatives' house. Talk about service. If I could give them below zero I would. Joseph is one of the sleaziest car mechanics I have come in contact with. I took my car to get my transmission fix and Joe said he found a brand new transmission that's coming from Oregon. Switched it out got my car. When I got my car back I had new noises that were never there before. He ripped off the bottom cover and the plastic connected to it in front of my left tired was burning against my tire I had no idea when I looked I realized my whole bottom cover was ripped off. Went back and told him the issues and he didn't fix the noise he cause as well as zip tying a brand new cover on there. I realized it was zipped tied when I was trying to change my oil. On top of him screwing a screw in there that needs a specific tool to unscrew it. On top of the other issue of the transmission not being new but refurbished. On the receipt paper it doesn't specify, as well as it saying if my car is kept there past 3 days they charge extra. So him getting it from Oregon was for his benefit to suck more money out. If anyone is going to sue this guy I highly recommend and I would gladly partake in that. read more

Wow, I have found my new mechanic. I was at Valvoline which is just in front of Speedy Tune & Brake, having a battery replaced. There was an issue that had to be done by a mechanic so Valvoline told me to have it done there. Joseph happened to come over and looked at my battery issue. He said he would try to fit me in. by the time I drove over there, the battery was not working. Joseph said he would get it done right away instead of waiting a couple hours or coming back next day. He squeezed me in which was so nice. When i went to pay him when all done, he refused and said it wasn't worth writing up an invoice. Wow, i was speechless! This is completely overdue. I just moved away from San Diego and one of the saddest parts about it was leaving Joey, George and the team at this place. They were always so kind to me and took very good care of my Honda Accord with up to 160k Miles on it. Everything from oil changes to part replacements...these guys were willing to help. They even let me drive a loner car for up to a week before when something had to be ordered and replaced. Even when I moved they were quick to send me my repair history when it was time to sell my car. Speedy tube and brakes is a great service and they have honest, reliable, and skilled mechanics. I have had two experiences with them, both being positive. I had my brakes replaced and an oil change within 24 hours of calling Joe (on a Friday afternoon too). They were upfront about pricing and very reasonable and honest. My second experience was when I called about a check engine light that came on. I had the code from the code reader about what the problem was. When I called Joe (again on a Friday afternoon), he said that he was completely booked up for Saturday which was understandable. He then proceeded to tell me that the problem could potentially be an easy fix and gave me instructions on how I might try to fix it myself if I didn't want to wait until next week for them to check it out. I was able to fix the problem myself and get the check engine light off with Joe's help. Speedy tune and brake is a great service and the honesty and integrity they put into their work is refreshing. I had to get my rear breaks and rotors replaced and they originally told me it would cost 550, I was skeptical but they told me it would be done before 3(dropped it off at 10) and it was, which was really helpful but when I came in to pick it up the total had jumped up to 650. But it had already been done and I was running late for work. By the time I paid the full total was $710. I didn't have time to argue and haggle. But seriously wtf two rotors and two break pads which on the receipt cost 300 max. They charged me 356$ in labor for just the rears. Once I got into my car and got onto the free way I noticed my tires were also unbalanced and it was causing crazy shaking at around 80mph which made it feel like I was about to die. The breaks do feel way better as I was breaking with metal before, but it should not have costed this much, at most shoulda be been 500$ read more

I brought my old van in to replace the front brakes. ($400) Speedy put one side back on loose, thereby causing my wheel to rattle around while I drove. Brought it back the next day and Joey acted like he had no idea what I was talking about. Wouldn't even bother to drive it for test. Told me it could be the calipers or hub bearing. So I had the calipers replaced. ($100) Still the problem persisted. George then told me I better have the hub bearing replaced or the wheel could fall off. Estimated another $400. Finally I took it to my usual mechanic, who told me about the loose wheel. These clowns put me and my family in jeopardy just to make more money. Had to replace the bearing because of their negligence, the loose wheel caused it to go out. Look at the plaque on the wall in the front office. Little Joey got an award for his skills in the "upsell." NOT professional. Also rude and condescending. read more

I would usually take my rig to my normal mechanic but he was out of town on vacation so I thought I would give these guys a shot. My brakes started to feel a little funny and I knew I was going to need new rotors soon for my Ford Explorer but thought it was just the brake pads. I asked for the free brake inspection, without telling them what I needed and they came back to me (30 min later) saying my pads were fine and that I just needed new rotors. Johnny the manager offered a few other suggestions on what needed to be fixed but said that the rotors were most important and didn't try to forcefully up-sell me like normal shops. He said my rig would be ready in a couple of hours on a Sat. and a couple hours later I was back on the road and received what I paid for in a timely fashion. I believe shops get a bad rap because we've all felt ripped off but the truth is these guys are just trying to make a living doing something that is not truly appreciated. If you want to save some money than do it yourself but give praise on the knowledge that these guys have. Also do a little research before you call or go to a shop, knowledge is power and if you don't know anything about cars than do yourself a favor and look online, ask an uncle, dad and/or neighbor who does. Improper diagnostic, not competent, bad experience and overcharged. Joey has no idea what he is talking about. This is my first car. Had A/C issues and was charged $150 for A/C recharge. They said the A/C was working right in front of me when I brought it back for the second time when it was blowing regular 'cool' air. I brought it back a third time when I noticed cold air sometimes more than others. They wanted an estimated $1500 for a new compressor installed. Went to Le's Auto on Auto Parkway in Escondido and they did an A/C recharge, put on a new schrader valve and replaced the relay for parts AND labor $140 out the door and the problem is fixed. read more

I came today and got a smog check and left with a smog check. Super nice and convenient and some quick service too. I had called and made an appointment on Saturday for Monday, but their smog service tech guy wasn't there that day, so I had it scheduled for today. The guy told me that it would take about 30 minutes to do the test on my car, and in literally about 10 minutes, my car was done. I was so scared and nervous because my car had finished so fast that I thought that my car had failed... a couple of minutes later, I get "Adam, you're all set" and just assumed that was me because the only other person in the waiting area was a female. read more

!!!! WORST AUTO SHOP EVER !!!! The key was stuck inside the ignition in the ACC (accessory) position and the car was not turning off. My friend called AAA and Evan from CA Towing referred us to Speedy Tune & Brake in Encinitas. Evan claimed that with his referral, it should only cost about $100 to fix it. I called ahead and David quoted me $75. I was so excited, I brought the car in on Saturday morning and signed a form agreeing to pay $89.99. David promised that the cost of a new ignition switch tumbler would be taken out if this slightly higher quote. I agreed to leave the car on their property so that they could take a look at it in the afternoon. When I called back at 5 PM to check on the status of the repairs, they told me that they did not have time to look at it. I had to leave the car over the weekend and wait for a call on the following Monday. When I finally received a call back, they quoted a huge price hike of $279 to replace an ignition cylinder that costs $54.99. When I complained that this was too expensive, the manager offered a $50 coupon bringing the cost down to $229 plus tax. I reluctantly agreed to the repair only because I was told I was going to be charged $89 anyways just for the inspection. When I picked up the car on Tuesday morning, I was greeted by a tattooed gang member for intimidation purposes. After I got into the car, I noticed trash had been thrown all over the floor (lots of food wrappers and a flash card with a strange message written on it; "Antisocial Behavior: Intentionally causes harm to others." As I was driving away, I noticed the hood was left partially open, as if they wanted it to fly open and cause a car accident. After I parked the car at home, I noticed an open can of Coke sitting on the floor of the drivers side back seat, as if they wanted it to spill all over the place. Then I noticed a brand new nail placed in the center of the back right tire. To top it all off, the new key was stuck in the newly replaced ignition, just like it was when I brought the car in for repairs. Also, the paperwork states, "valve cover gaskets are leaking and going into spark plugs" which I now suspect resulted from more damage caused by these shady auto mechanics. I paid a lot of money for them to just trash and vandalize the vehicle without successfully completing the repairs I paid for. So, I called the owner "George" and he denied everything without having even looked at the car. When I told him that I was going to file an online complaint, he said he was going to tell them I am a liar. I've never been treated so poorly in my life and for no reason. I was very kind and polite to them. I never once suspected that they had a problem with me up until I complained to the owner who was extremely rude. These auto mechanics are scam artists who charge top dollar to destroy other people's property! read more

When you try a new auto repair shop there is a sense of vulnerability if you are not mechanical. Can you trust them? My car has over 200,000 miles and some issues that financially make no good sense to completely repair. The fear is your car is done. Joey knows how to keep a car going safely, only repairing what is necessary. He explains what is happening and all options. More than fair in pricing, even not charging after time spent finding out what is causing the problem. Three times now I have driven off the same day relieved and happy. I went in for a smog check. Left with a smog check. Why just three stars? A few days prior to going in, I called around 4p to see if they could do a smog check before they closed at 6. Nope. Ok, no big deal, they must be busy. Could a customer service oriented shop fit in a smog check sometime in two hours? I'm going to say most likely. The day I went in, dropped my car off. Guy asked if I wanted an oil change. "No thanks", I said. I thought to myself, no big deal that they tried to up sell me on an item. A few hours later, I get a voicemail. The voicemail says, "Please call us about your car." Sounds troublesome. I wonder what could have gone wrong! The message wasn't, "Your car is ready but give us a call before you come in." I call them, "Did you have the 50,000 mile service done on your car because it's overdue?" No thanks, I said. "You should also have a Throttle body cleaning or fuel injection service done." No thanks, I said again. "Ok, your car is ready." How many things have they tried to up sell me already? FOUR. When I roll in to pickup my car, I'm asked, "Hey where do you have your service done on your car?" STOP IT! Oh my, you've tried to up sell me FOUR times. STOP THE MADNESS! So I went in for a smog check. Left with a smog check. This place could have gotten 5 stars but the hassle left me saying to any perspective customers to avoid this place if you don't like to be harassed. read more
