The guy changed my battery while I waited and did so fast and efficiently -- there was a bracket holding down my battery that corporate apparently doesn't want their employees to mess with -- but the guy who changed my battery explained everything and made an exception, which I appreciated so I didn't have to change it myself. I'm glad I have an older car -- would you believe that newer cars won't accept a new battery until you register it or something with the car's computer? Think I'm showing my age but I digress. One thing I recommend is to keep your car running for a while or drive it around as a new battery sitting for a while can lose charge. Don't turn it off right away. It chugged a bit to start the second time but did so and after driving for 15 I was good to go. The store is well organized and clean. Great variety of supplies -- much easier than hunting on Amazon. Good to see brick and mortar stores like this that hold their own. You can even pick up some Lucas CLP and an "Extreme Duty" needle oiler, which is stocked right across from the register as you walk in. That's a nice touch :) read more

Went in to buy a quart of oil. In the parking lot, like a total idiot, I dropped the engine oil cap into the engine compartment. They lent me a mirror and a grabber claw. After 10 minutes, Caleb came out and offered to help...well..it wasn't too easy. But the guy refused to give up and ended shoulder-deep into the hood, abandoning the claw and using his bare hands. And g-d damn if he didn't get the cap out. A real legend. Going ABOVE AND BEYOND. There are auto shops down and across the street that I could have rolled the car to, but Caleb was determined to get that darn thing out. So thankful for this guy and the service. The last two times I have gone in there have been frustrating to say the least. The first time I needed a cabin air filter and he sold me the wrong one. The last time I went in, I needed a bulb for my vehicle and he told me I needed to replace the entire headlamp, which is not true and ridiculous. Honestly, I will never go back there. I was very pleased and surprised with this O'Reilly store, although in retrospect, maybe I shouldn't be overly happy. Still, as a business, it certainly did help me out quite a bit. My family and I were on a road trip to Southern California and on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, were pulled aside by a local Sheriff's Deputy to be told that I had a front headlight out. This wasn't something I wanted to drive around with while out of state, so I definitely wanted to get it fixed. We had a busy day planned for Friday and were heading home on Saturday, so Thursday I headed to the WalMart in this area, a store I generally try to avoid, to see if I might be able to luck out and get a new headlight bulb. It was not open. Nor was the Toyota dealership. For some random reason, I decided to try calling O'Reilly's. While literally saying to my partner, "They won't be open on Thanksgiving, I don't know why I'm bothering..." a young lady answered. She confirmed they were open. So I headed down and checked out the selection. Due to an error that was completely on my part, I requested the wrong bulb for the low-beam part of my headlights and got a high-beam bulb instead. After noticing my mistake, I went back inside with hunched shoulders and asked if I could get the right part. The young man said he'd take the old bulb back, even though the package was opened, and return it under the warranty and got me the correct piece. I was even given a small refund as the price was less. The customer service here, on behalf of both employees, was great, although my reservation is with the company as a whole, in that they had these great employees working on Thanksgiving. However, the pay probably doesn't hurt and they really helped me out with this part at a very inconvenient time. As a business, that does pretty well. I would definitely utilize this store again if I needed something and was in the area, and as my extended family lives here, this is a very likely prospect. read more

Walked in for a oil filter removal tool and the older gentleman directed the younger fella to the area to get them. I had the filter on hand, wasnt sure if was a right fit but he said it was. Went in asking for help, and Justus showed me how to use rubbing compound to get the paint transfer out without wrecking the paint job on the vehicle. Rick was very helpful but I spoke to some lazy guy on the phone named Ortega who didn't know what CVT fluid is, or didn't understand English enough to answer the question or was too lazy to look for the Valvoline CVT fluid I'd asked about. I knew they carried it as I'd just bought 10 quarts from two other o'reilly stores. The way he acted, he didn't know what CVT fluid was so he said "No....we don't carry it. This was some nonsense from this guy. How does anybody listen to a guy in an auto parts store that doesn't know what CVT fluid is? Be forewarned and don't ask his advice about anything because he clearly isn't knowledgeable about cars. My windshield wipers were long overdue for a replacement and I Yelped to see which auto parts shop I should go to. For some reason, O' Reilly seems to have a lot of good ratings, including other locations, and I happened to be near one in Encinitas, so I walked in to shop for a pair. Well, not really "shop", but more like asking for help for a good pair of windshield wipers. There were 2 staff members there, an old man and Jacque, who happened to serve me when it was my turn. Jacque was the first woman I saw at an auto parts shop. She's very knowledgeable and helpful, friendly and nice with a cheerful disposition as well! She looked up my car model and grabbed the Bosch windshield wiper pairs for me. They cost around $25 only and they look sturdy and stylish! They work very well too! She said her pair lasted for at least 2 years while my old pair lasted for less than a year. She also kindly installed the wipers for me and they have been working wonderfully in this wet weather! I waited at the counter for 13 minutes and the gentleman behind the counter did not once acknowledge me. This is a business and I felt ignored. Maybe instead of having so many national commercials.
