Sticky bun! Out of this world.
Sheri P.

I can't believe people aren't giving this place 5 stars! I eat here every summer when I come up to visit friends. Ate here twice this visit. Their cocktails are awesome! Today we had breakfast and I decided to order the sticky bun. Holy cow! Undoubtedly the best sticky bun I've ever had. Yes this place is a tad pricey, but not compared to other not as nice restaurants in the area. I cannot wait to come back!

What a cool place! Has a 1960s retro feel to it. The menu is not expansive, but it looks good. My meal was fantastic! (Minus the biscuit! Word to my southern peeps, don't eat that biscuit). We had local beers with dinner and enjoyed our meal. The service was good too.

Spenard Roadhouse has exceptionally service from the front of the house to my server. This cozy relaxed diner is frequented by many locals and serves up delicious sandwiches. During my lunch visit I got the cubano with tots. The braised pork was juicy. This was a great balance of smoky, zesty, and saltness served in a warm bun. Service was 5 stars and with smiles.

Spenard Roadhouse made for a tasty dinner with easy parking. The interior was nicely decorated with a full bar and tables away from the bar area. We were seated right away on May 29, 2026 at 5:30 PM with no reservations. I had the Bacon Jam burger with a side of super tots. While both tasted good, I do not believe that meal was worth $28. Maybe it was worth $18 on a good day. My wife had the Soup du Jour, but neither of us remember what it was, other than it contained seafood. She also got the small plate of Seared Scallops. As you can see in the picture, the scallops are very small, maybe the diameter of a quarter coin. I also tried the Lil' Pineapple drink from the Zero Proof menu. I asked that they replace the sparkling soda with plain water, and they did. The drink was delicious. The servers were very friendly, answered all our questions, and we enjoyed the service they provided. Would I return to Spenard Roadhouse on my next trip to Anchorage? Probably not. There are many other restaurants to try and nothing about this one made me say "wow!". The food was good, and if you like what you see on the menu, give it a try. But, as for me, I'd like to try other restaurants first.

Here are the highlights: Fair service even with a wait Good food, little more reasonable than some other nearby places Cute place (under 21 years old not allowed without an adult) Needs more parking space

I think the service has become more consistently good again, which is nice to see. I like that you pay on their tablet that the servers carry around so they don't take your card away. This spread pictured below coast me $50, the sliders were shareable and we all ordered them, I thought they were 3, but they had 4 and were $17. Everything was delicious though. The sliders got soggy with all the juice.

Loved it!! Much more lowkey than some of the other brewhouses in Anchorage. Has amazing beer, huge portions of food (especially for the price), and very friendly staff and spacious interior. Surprisingly, brussel sprouts and POPCORN were the stars of the show! Definitely will visit again when I am in town.

I can't think how I have failed to add a review for somewhere we've been coming to for years. I know, I did have a certain disdain for tater tots for many years, so maybe it's that. But Spenard Roadhouse is iconic Alaskan, you HAVE to come here. The decor is fairly busy, but it's not in a jarring way - it fits with this building. There's a full bar (I don't drink alcohol, so that's irrelevant to me) and lots of indoor, and outdoor seating. There's outdoor seating, is super pretty as you're in amongst the hanging baskets, and I really couldn't make my mind up where to sit last night, as the temperature outside was perfect. I had been ordering the same thing here for ages, but it's not on the menu anymore. (Wild mushrooms ravioli in a cream sauce, and it was chef's kiss superb) so I opted for the avocado melt, and super tots (because I have only recently started to enjoy tater tots) he got a burger with regular tater tots. I got a Strawberry Boba drink. Service was prompt, and food came out pretty quickly, despite the busy dining room. I was surprised that my super tots were made with sweet potato, which I hadn't noticed on the menu when I ordered. I'm not a sweet potato fan, and when our server came to check on us, I inquired if super tots were normally made with sweet potatoes, and she said that no, they were not. That they were a mistake, and she ordered me a new plate. They came out quite promptly, even so, I had nearly finished my avocado melt. I enjoyed the avocado melt, though I feel it's lacking somewhat, and needs a bit more flavour. Seasoning? Maybe a bit of bacon perhaps? The super tots were very good, and the strawberry boba drink was delicious. Anyway, I'll definitely return.

Spenard Roadhouse has become one of my favorite restaurants in Anchorage over the years. They have a unique variety of food and drinks and service is always great. They have a lot of gluten-free and vegan options clearly labeled on the menu. I like that dishes with Alaska products are also labeled on the menu. Most recently I had the cajun reindeer scramble which was flavorful and filling. It included marionberry jam for the toast which I enjoyed. If you have room after your main course, their desserts are delicious. I've tried the banana cream pie and the flourless chocolate cake and loved both. The main downside is it can be hard to find parking when it's busy since the lot is small. However if you're able to go outside peak dinner hours then parking shouldn't be a problem.

Stopped in for brunch and stumbled upon this gem. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating--great atmosphere to relax and enjoy a meal. The coffee was excellent, and the pineapple frizz drink was well-balanced and refreshing. We started with the buffalo fried bacon, which was a fun twist, though the sauce was a bit overpowering. For the main, I had the reindeer sausage scramble--it was flavorful and well-seasoned. Overall, a great spot to grab a satisfying bite after a long morning. I'd definitely come back!

The service was on point. They have a massive whiskey bar downstairs. They have an excellent menu of craft cocktails. They also have excellent mocktails. I will critique their bourbon selection only because they have a number of bourbons that are 18+ years old that they're trying to sell for Scottish and Japanese prices which are based on reality. Bourbon is not any good out of the barrel past 12 to 14 years. Corn is not the same as grains. The sugar is degrade and get dark after 14 years in spite of some companies selling some of their older swill, trying to get rid of it as premium. They were very nice. I gave the bartenders and recommendations of things that actually are worth that kind of money in the bourbon world. There was plenty to find that was not expensive and quite excellent. The only negative? The Host stand at the top of the stairs needs people who have more pleasant personality. How you greet people in the restaurant is absolutely imperative. It sets the tone for the whole meal. The whole experience. They seem to think that their job is to shoot people off because the restaurant is booked, but they do it in a manner that will make sure people don't come back. It's a little too New York curt. Smiling, and some good grace, would not hurt either of them. When they tell you, it's time to be seated, engaging people and making eye contact would certainly also help them look a little more human as well. Do make reservations. Otherwise, the wait time can be very long. Outstanding food! Absolutely worth passing through the gargoyles at the front door

First they said they were moving things around implying it would be a few minutes. 15 minutes later I went up and he said 5-10 minutes to wait. 15 minutes later still nothing and they tell me another 30-45 minutes and acted appalled that I had checked in. Not worth dealing with them so I left. Ambiance seemed great but ramen isn't worth rude staff so I left.

I…read morefeel like Koots is somewhat of an institution to the town so I was definitely curious about the bar. I'm glad I went to check it out, but outside of going there for a show I don't see myself going back. Seriously gave me college bar/frat house basement party vibes. Considering I went to a Big 10 school in the middle of Illinois I'm very well versed in that type of establishment/vibe. It's not exactly the kind of place I want to go to as a 30 something year old. I went there for a burlesque show. Shout out to Pulse Dance Company! The show was amazing and tons of fun. The bar itself I don't think has had any updates since like maybe 1995, and that estimate is probably generous. This bar was probably the place to be when it first opened, but now it's kind of just tired and sad. It could probably be better if they took the time & money to renovate it, but they don't really have an incentive since people go there regardless. Koot's kind of just exists, but considering Anchorage is the biggest metropolitan area Alaska has it's a confusing type of establishment to find here. If you're looking to party though it seems to be the spot!
