This is a great place for gluten free items. Everything we had was delicious. For starters, you cannot go wrong with the sweet potato tots and blackened fried Brussels sprouts. I wasn't really a fan of Brussels sprouts but these changed my mind! The cauliflower crust is amazing, which makes all the pizzas a must try. We had the chicken bacon pesto ranch and roadhouse classic. All the veggies were so good. You really cannot go wrong here! Lavender lemonade and rhubarbie are delicious non-alcoholic drinks. Finishing with the chocolate flourless torte will surely make your evening! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They can get busy, so make sure to check-in so you're not overlooked. Waited at least 20 mins for the privilege to order. 4 people eating, my food was cold probably because it was not timed properly. What a great place to go for a date night or business meeting. Rather eclectic clients as well as staff, all of which are super friendly and adds to the charm of this great place! Server was phenomenal in making sure we were all taken cared of. Appetizers were EXCELLENT!! Drinks were EXCELLENT, which made me extremely excited for the Cubano I'd ordered. All that build up, for an alright sandwich. I should preface that I have had a few other cubanos in previous cities. This one in particular was lacking on the "inside" ingredients. There was very little meat and cheese. It was a lot of bread so the meal was basically like eating... bread. For the sticker price of the sandwich, I definitely figured it would have come jammed packed with a lot of meat, and the full taste of the BBQ to shine through. Spenard Roadhouse made for a tasty dinner with easy parking. The interior was nicely decorated with a full bar and tables away from the bar area. We were seated right away on May 29, 2026 at 5:30 PM with no reservations. I had the Bacon Jam burger with a side of super tots. While both tasted good, I do not believe that meal was worth $28. Maybe it was worth $18 on a good day. My wife had the Soup du Jour, but neither of us remember what it was, other than it contained seafood. She also got the small plate of Seared Scallops. As you can see in the picture, the scallops are very small, maybe the diameter of a quarter coin. I also tried the Lil' Pineapple drink from the Zero Proof menu. I asked that they replace the sparkling soda with plain water, and they did. The drink was delicious. The servers were very friendly, answered all our questions, and we enjoyed the service they provided. Would I return to Spenard Roadhouse on my next trip to Anchorage? Probably not. There are many other restaurants to try and nothing about this one made me say "wow!". The food was good, and if you like what you see on the menu, give it a try. But, as for me, I'd like to try other restaurants first. read more

No frills atmosphere but creative selection of food and drinks. The inside is quite diner-like and makes you feel like you're really in a roadhouse. Seating is made up of booths along the window perimeter, tables thru the middle area and a large bar area with more tables and stools along the counter. The menu selection is surprisingly diverse. I was happy to see halibut as the fish for their fish & chips, as it is often cod or other white fish. I find halibut to be the best. They also have a few dishes with nods to Korean and Thai flavors. There are pizzas and dinner salads too. I went with their bacon jam burger for dinner. It is cooked to your liking and has a grilled apple, cambozola, bacon jam, arugula & house mayo. This is the best burger I've had in a long time. The flavors complement each other so well. If you are a fan of bleu cheese you will really love the cambozola. It is creamy and oozy and is amazing on a burger. My spouse tried their Cuban sandwich and didn't like that the pickles were mediocre and didn't add to the overall flavors, and that the bread wasn't crisped or toasted in any way -- the way Cubans traditionally are. He also took a chance with a appetizer off the specials menu which he imaged was Brussels sprouts however it was shaved sautéed Brussels sprout leaves, over warm couscous with lots of fresh herbs, jalapeños, and heavily spiced with bold spices like fennel. It was bizarre and not like anything we've ever tried. We liked some of the flavors but all together didn't make sense to us so we sent it back, unfortunately. Our child tried the Mac and cheese that came with purple grapes and sorbet. The Mac and cheese was good although I'd advise SRH to try a larger noodle than a small shell so kids can stab it better and get it in their little mouths. The sorbet must be seasonal/rotating bc it was cinnamon honey pear and it was crazy delicious. I'd come back for just the sorbet tbh. Other than that our red-haired bespectacled server was fairly attentive and quite friendly, even on a very busy Friday dinner rush. Parking lot just outside seems easy enough as long as you can grab a spot at busy times. Will be back in the future for the fried halibut (and sorbet!). read more

I can't think how I have failed to add a review for somewhere we've been coming to for years. I know, I did have a certain disdain for tater tots for many years, so maybe it's that. But Spenard Roadhouse is iconic Alaskan, you HAVE to come here. The decor is fairly busy, but it's not in a jarring way - it fits with this building. There's a full bar (I don't drink alcohol, so that's irrelevant to me) and lots of indoor, and outdoor seating. There's outdoor seating, is super pretty as you're in amongst the hanging baskets, and I really couldn't make my mind up where to sit last night, as the temperature outside was perfect. I had been ordering the same thing here for ages, but it's not on the menu anymore. (Wild mushrooms ravioli in a cream sauce, and it was chef's kiss superb) so I opted for the avocado melt, and super tots (because I have only recently started to enjoy tater tots) he got a burger with regular tater tots. I got a Strawberry Boba drink. Service was prompt, and food came out pretty quickly, despite the busy dining room. I was surprised that my super tots were made with sweet potato, which I hadn't noticed on the menu when I ordered. I'm not a sweet potato fan, and when our server came to check on us, I inquired if super tots were normally made with sweet potatoes, and she said that no, they were not. That they were a mistake, and she ordered me a new plate. They came out quite promptly, even so, I had nearly finished my avocado melt. I enjoyed the avocado melt, though I feel it's lacking somewhat, and needs a bit more flavour. Seasoning? Maybe a bit of bacon perhaps? The super tots were very good, and the strawberry boba drink was delicious. Anyway, I'll definitely return. read more

Spenard Roadhouse has become one of my favorite restaurants in Anchorage over the years. They have a unique variety of food and drinks and service is always great. They have a lot of gluten-free and vegan options clearly labeled on the menu. I like that dishes with Alaska products are also labeled on the menu. Most recently I had the cajun reindeer scramble which was flavorful and filling. It included marionberry jam for the toast which I enjoyed. If you have room after your main course, their desserts are delicious. I've tried the banana cream pie and the flourless chocolate cake and loved both. The main downside is it can be hard to find parking when it's busy since the lot is small. However if you're able to go outside peak dinner hours then parking shouldn't be a problem. read more

Stopped in for brunch and stumbled upon this gem. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating--great atmosphere to relax and enjoy a meal. The coffee was excellent, and the pineapple frizz drink was well-balanced and refreshing. We started with the buffalo fried bacon, which was a fun twist, though the sauce was a bit overpowering. The food was 3 stars, I got the Cobb salad and honestly it was subpar, not sure whaat kind of lettuce they used but it was bitter, and it was lightly done, more like a 1/2 Cobb elsewhere but this was the full dinner version - not great. But the 2 stars come from the fact that I knew my sister in-law was paying the bill, and I wanted another beer but I didn't want her to pay for it, so I went to the bathroom and tried to get a drink at the bar which I was going to pay cash for and tip the bartender, and I was told that if I was at a table I had to order there. Really? You lost my business in the future, and lost your money from this sale, and honestly, are you my mommy telling me I can't buy a beer and go sit at the table? I'm going to leave it here, otherwise I'm going to talk myself into giving you 1 star. Please, you can do better! How about, sure what can I get you? When I asked for hot coffee, I got attitude from the male 40-ish server, demonstrated by: fresh coffee cup harshly put on the table, old coffee not removed, no cream. Had to flag the server down even though he was attentive to the table next to us. Was not offered a refill (the table next to us was refilled). Another time I was there, the breakfast was not hot and did not seem to be fresh made. That time, the waiter did not come back for 15 dang minutes while I sat there NOT eating the cold food. Excellent food! Multiple visits here while in Anchorage and found it consistently excellent! I had a few complicated orders omitting and adding things to my order and server was wonderful! Food came out plated beautifully and perfect! Sauces, breads, and all the other homemade from scratch items were tasty. They also had house made sodas that were good as well. Atmosphere was lively and eclectic. Loved it! Hoping we have time on our vacation to go back for dinner. Highly recommend as it's been a consistent eatery throughout our visits throughout the years. I love that they cycle through top quality bacons! My personal favorite is the Eggs Benedict on French toast (instead of English muffin) with bacon instead of ham. So much quality and flavor with each dish. My kids said 10/10 for their food-- includes starter, entree, drink, and dessert for $9! I especially liked the chicken tenders breading (yes i ate off of my kids' plates). My wild mushroom ravioli was super tasty.. each bite was perfection and nothing was leftover. We returned to SR on the last night of stay in Alaska. So glad that we did. Sarah made the experience memorable. Five of us ordered Old Fashioneds. Sarah suggested we let the bartender go wild with various bitters, which was a taste treat. That allowed us to zero in on a favorite for a second round. The bartender even came to our table to meet the group who entrusted him with creating unique flavors. Of the five entrees, all were delicious. The halibut sandwich was superb. Shrimp and grits and the jambalaya are both true comfort food loaded with flavor. If you can find a little room for dessert, get the peanut butter pie. It's beyond decadent. I just wish the service had been more accurate. I didn't bother to return the sandwich because I didn't want to wait for another meal to be made.
