We haven't been here in a while and decided to give this place a go. The pretzel and cheese as an appetizer was SO good! I'm not sure what kind of cheese they use but it was delicious! We also had the meatloaf sandwich which is still really good. We ended up splitting this as a meal and it was plenty for two people. We subbed the fries for onion rings which I didn't care for. The onion rings have a fish taste to them, so I assume they're in the same fryer as the fish and chips. My only complaint is when you get the tablet to pay, the minimum tip is defaulted to 20% and the other options are 25% and 28%. I do believe the tipping culture is a little out of control. read more

We've eaten here enough times that I understand why their star reviews range from 1 to 5. They really are all over the map. Because it's literally around the corner from where I work and it's been a rough week and their drinks are ALWAYS amazing, we decided to take our chances. I'm so glad we did. It was a 5 star experience this time. The ambiance is the Alaskan vibe locals and tourists love. All the animals and Alaskan stuff that is warm and inviting. The restaurant was packed and we were seated and waited on right away. Our waitress, Cher, was the highlight. She's one of those people I will make a point of asking for in the future because she was so awesome. I got the Paloma and the bartender used a heavy hand. Wowser. It was next level. Our maple Brussel sprout app was AMAZING. My husband couldn't finish his humongous Carnivore burger. Nor could I finish my perfect chicken and Waffles. We are staying at the Hilton across the parking lot and coworkers had recommend to check this spot. We were starving and came over after checking into the hotel. We came in through the pickup door without realizing it. The staff in general were super friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was very patient and gave us suggestions with the menu. The reindeer sausage jalapeño poppers were AMAZING! All of the food was great! I liked the ribs better with the rub since the bbq sauce was ok. It had like a mustard flavour to it. The pizza was very tasty and the salmon had good flavour. The only thing about the salmon is that it was a bit too cooked for me. I typically like it a bit medium rare in the middle and not well done. The ambiance is unique with a cabin outdoors feel to it. They have plenty of beers on tap. I travel to Anchorage from Denver pretty often, and Bear Paw is one of my absolute go-to spots. I've tried a bunch of things on the menu (the meatloaf is killer!), but I especially love that I can count on them for something lighter when I need it. I honestly order the grilled chicken breast almost every night I'm in town -- it's simple, healthy, and always hits the spot. I usually mix up the sides, but it's just so nice knowing I can get a solid meal with veggies and a salad, especially after a not-so-healthy lunch out. The staff is also always warm and welcoming. Additionally, there is a four-panel mega TV that is about 8 feet tall by 8 feet wide. We came to watch the NCAA men's national championship game, and it was pretty ideal. Take-Out - They are an amazing spot for takeout. Their process is pretty seamless. Their online platform makes it easy to select an item, make alterations, and order with discount codes if you possess them. Additionally, they will text you immediately to confirm your order and give you a 5-minute window for when your order will be ready. They then text you when your order is ready. Entrees - I have had their grilled chicken, Atlantic salmon, wings, and pesto chicken sandwich. All four meals have been delicious, and I highly recommend them. All items are some of the best "price to entree" ratio in the city. The value is great when it comes to sit-down restaurants and elevated bar food. Pro Tip: They have tons of parking. The search for a good Reuben continues. Staff was nice and prompt. Area was clean. If you want a mid tier bland basic somewhat Reuben, come here. A recipe is a nice blend of flavors, but this sandwich (using the term loosely) was bland, too much meat, not enough sauerkraut and the bread was under-cooked. Sauce was non-existent. I took recommendations from DoorDash reviews. We ordered a cheeseburger, club sandwich, and corn fritters. Both came w/fries, subbed onion rings w/the club. The onion rings had a batter that was amazing but made me wonder if they dropped fish in the same fryer. The fries were crispy outside, soft inside and both were excellent as sides. The cheeb was delicious. I like mine a little less done but it was great quality beef and well seasoned. It needed the lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle to keep it from seeming dry but that is personal preference. I think it can stand alone and shine. The club was awesome. Well built. Real turkey breast and bacon which is appreciated. Great balance of ingredients that makes a classic club. The prices were competitive, better even, with similar items available from other local restaurants using fresh ingredients. The corn fritters I left to review last. They were yummy. 8 little balls for $14. Sorry if I'm remembering the Sourdough Mining Company's fritters, but that's a great litmus test! These could be larger and use a few more pieces of corn. I understand the balance of dough/corn has to keep them cohesive for frying and eating. It's a low cost item. Make them worth $14. The cinnamon and honey butter provided to dip them in was so good. Very friendly staff, Heather was our waitress and we highly recommend her attention and social interaction. The food was great tasting, hot, fresh cooked and quickly served. The menu is extensive and should appeal to many tastes. We saw folks enjoying their pizzas as well as their pasta dishes. Our drinks were cold and refreshing. Our meals consisted of: -pickle chip appetizer (7/10), not a fan of their chipotle dip, I'd prefer a horseradish dip for it. - Ruben sandwich (6.5/10) with onion rings (8/10) the sandwich needed more dressing and we requested and received a cup after trying and that did the trick. Just went here for lunch and it was amazing! for a 5$ alfredo i expected a plastic cup with too-creamy mac and cheese. instead, the alfredo was served in a nice dish with a beautiful garnish on top. and those flavors were amazing!! forget about a plastic cup of soggy fruit, you get another ceramic dish of freshly cut stertbweries, pineapples, and blueberries. AMAZING! the servers were so sweet and even brought us our food to our car that we had forgotten. the interior was nice and relaxing, my family loved seeing all the bears around. the only flaw was that you were only given three crayons for the kids menu which was disappointing, but the coloring page was amazing! read more

If you bring this home, you need to make sure you have plenty of napkins. Bone-in pork chop with apple-pear chutney (need to get the chutney on the side...thanks for the recommendation TK). The chutney is sweet and cinnamony... it will over power the savoriness of the pork chop. It is really hard to find a place that still has bone in pork chops and I really really enjoyed chewing on the bone....brings out the savage in me. The mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli that came with the dish were pretty good. The mashed potatoes were creamy mashed red potatoes. Steamed broccoli made the dish "healthier", but I think it could have used some butter. Our first visit to Alaska and first restaurant stop. Inside is very inviting with a lodge like feel. Staff was friendly and we were seated immediately-they were on a wait when we left 45 minutes later. We were greeted by a nice young man and ordered within a few minutes. Didn't take long at all to get our food. My husband got the salmon and said it was so good. His broccoli and rice was satisfying as well. I ordered the grilled chicken. 2 nice sized thin pieces of chicken. BBQ sauce on the side was a bit tangy-glad I didn't order it cooked on. Baked potato was probably the best I've had-giant sized and I added cheese-there was so much cheese! Freshly baked in aluminum foil, it had the best flavor. Butter has chives in it FYI. They forgot my broccoli and I received it about 5 minutes later-it was very green and delicious. Chicken was very, very, very dry and had no flavor. Salt helped a little, but I ended up only eating one piece after eventually getting some ranch. I could see our server had taken a section in the middle of the restaurant (we were on the edge of the bar seating). I had to flag him down for water after 10 minutes. That was the only real issue besides the taste of the chicken. I might go back and try a burger-food has great looking appeal and portion sizes are very generous. The brussel sprouts were decent, but the french onion soup needs more flavor. Definitely needs stronger cheese and more onions. And at the end of the meal, it was really awkward having her sit there and stare at us while we paid and decided how much to tip.
