When we were there, it was a one man operation. So he was also our host and server. If you couldn't tell - service was excellent. Chatting about food. About seafood. About the beginning of Gulf Port. And about life in general. This is one of those places, that if I lived there - I'd frequent the place just because of him. I should preface this by saying that Gulf Port is a seafood market first and that they have one table (4 chairs) so you can dine-in - but space is limited. Kojo, the restaurant owner, has both raw and hot options for patrons to enjoy. We came pretty late on a Saturday so many of his popular items (gumbo and lobster roll) were sold out, but we decide to try his other offerings which were delicious. We ordered the 2 orders of Cajun Crawfish Roll (methinks $15?), Seafood Mac & Cheese (methinks $20?) and Shrimp and Grits ($20? maybe) and all were made to order and brought to our table in a timely manner. The Cajun Crawfish Rolls came out first (I guess one order is given two rolls) and we demolished it. The toasted bun had a nice char, but was fluffy on the inside and the cajun sauce gave the crawfish nice flavor. We devoured this and were really impressed with the item. Next the Seafood Mac and Cheese came our as well as the shrimp and grits. The Mac and Cheese had such a great blend of cheeses and the noodles were cooked al dente. The grits on the shrimp and grits were scrumptious - not mushy at all and the shrimp was cooked through. Everything tasted very comforting and the prices are very reasonable! Overall, this was definitely a highlight meal of my Southern States travels and the next time I'm back in Nashville I hope to try the gumbo and lobster roll!
