This was my first visit: the Sunday brunch of March 24, 2024 and it will not be my last. It was excellent! The restaurant is attractive, large, and comfortable. There was a small salad bar, a broccoli and mushroom dish, pakora, chicken tikka masala, egg curry, goat, the best and most moist and flavorful chicken tandoori I have had in a long time: thighs and drumsticks, rice pudding, and a number of other dishes. A server brought freshly baked naan to the table. The only thing I would have liked that was missing was a cauliflower dish. The price is a reasonable $14.99 and there are punchcards that provide the bearer with a free lunch after purchasing five. There is a lunch buffet Tuesdays through Saturdays as well and the restaurant opens at 11:30. It is closed on Mondays. I only wish I could bring the restaurant closer to my home in Washington County! read more

First, the mango lassi is delicious. That's where the positive review ends. The food is spicy...so I guess it lives up to its name? I ordered a Veggie Korma & Tandoori Tofu, both at a level 7, and they're sufficiently hot. Not just Western PA hot, but hot enough that I'm glad at 7.5 months pregnant, that I didn't order hotter. I also got garlic naan, noticably lacking garlic flavor. Overall, the food is meh. It lacks the umami that one would hope. I actually prefer the microwave meals that you can get at a local grocery. That being said, I will also acknowledge that my rating is influenced by the (lack of) customer service. As an aformentioned 7.5 months pregnant lady, I didn't appreciate it when I was waiting for my order (and the first person in line) that the servers looked past me to serve the group of men behind me who were also awaiting their carry-out order. This was after the guy behind the bar who was the first person I spoke to, and who also summoned the servers who ultimately ignored me, informed me that he wasn't working but instead hanigng out. We ordered takeout from Spice Affair after reading all of its good reviews, and boy did it live up to the hype! We ordered during peak dinner hours on a Friday night, and had a 40 min wait, but it was well worth it. We tried a few entrees plus garlic naan and all everything delicious! I totally get why other Yelpers drive a good distance to Spice Affair. Tandori Chicken: The chicken was super tender, and the medium spice level had good flavor but wasn't overly spicy. Chicken Vindaloo: Not for those who can't handle spice. My husband took one bite and started hiccuping. We both loved the flavor though! Vegetable Jalfrezi: was a good way to pack some veggies in. Current favorite Indian in the city. All of the entrees I have tried have been good, but the chicken vindaloo, lamb rogan josh, and dal tadka have been my favorites. Entrees are stronger than their appetizers. The spicy onion chutney is great. Large patio for outdoor dining. This is a great place to bring friends or family so you can share a bunch of dishes. All around great experience. My wife and I dined in on a Friday night. There is indoor and bar seating available (outdoor seating too, for the warmer months). Our waiter was prompt, the food came out quickly, and our meals were fantastic! I ordered the lamb methi mushroom. Large portion, tender lamb, and an very generous portion. I had leftovers. We tried the garlic naan and the green chili and cilantro naan and both were great. So - website shows lunch buffet but upon arriving was clearly shut down. Floors very sticky. Scary bathroom in basement down stairs is not disability friendly. The service was 1/10 did not greet or say hello, left us long w the menu we ordered drinks, apps, main dishes and sides all at once... at the end when paying, he was rude questioning why x wasn't finished. You pay at the table with device staff has so almost felt required to tip more than I would have when someone is staring at me. Server excuses himself before I had even left the booth to come and start cleaning but we were the only table in restaurant. The dishes did not arrive with how they were described on menu. Loved it. Love it, love it, loved it. We stopped in after my son's basketball game down the street at CDT Academy. The Yelp reviews looked good. Walked in and the scent of curry and spice was in the air. We were seated quickly by a friendly fellow that got our drinks right away. My son ordered the Mixed Grill while I went for the Tandoori Chicken, plain Naan on the side. I also asked for a garden salad with their suggested yogurt based dressing. The food from start to finish was excellent. Authentic. Delicious. We were given a scale to select how spicey we wanted out entrees - the lad said 3 and I went for 5 (out of 10). The mint "salsa" and spiced honey sauce that came with our meal went perfectly with our food. The chicken was terrific, and my son was obviously delighting in his grill. Try this place. The service, the FOOD! And the price? You're kidding me...that was all? Very reasonable for the quality. Oh..and the restaurant is clean and well-kept. We'll return. Another enjoyable meal from Spice Affair. Tried Chicken Keeshond , yummy green peppers, onions in a tomato sauce, the chicken was tender and juicy; all blended to taste great! Palak Paneer, my fave, had plenty of paneer, more than other places. I liked the Lamb Seekh Kebab, but it was kind of dry and the veggies were too raw. Mango ice tea was refreshing. Pappadums and some sauces were presented at first and they are good. I am used to the variety of Indian restaurants in Florida and they are excellent, so that is why I have to give 3 stars to Spice Affair. All in all the food is good and I will come back to try the buffet but they need a trip to Tampa to see how they compare to the restaurants all over that area. No liquor license so if you are craving some Indian beer, you will have to look elsewhere. read more

I was ecstatic to try Spice Affair but have to say, I was very disappointed. The stars are for the effort the waitress put forth, but the experience still fell very flat. We arrived and were one of only a few tables occupied. We scoured the menu, there around 90 options if not more so making a decision was pretty tough to narrow down. Nothing is labeled as vegan, only vegetarian but it seems they can accommodate dietary restrictions for the most part. We ordered two entrees, naan and two garden salads. The salads and Naan were to start and to be followed by the entrees and rice that it comes with. As everyone else around us was served their fragrant food, we drank water and stared at our empty plates. 40 minutes passed, and they notified us that some employees had called off, which was understandable. Unfortunately as soon as I heard someone who just walked in order the same dish we did, and they rushed in out in less than 5 minutes I grew frustrated. When our food finally arrived, it was simple and one note. It tasted exactly like dishes I've eaten many times before. The salad does not come with dressing, only a lemon to squeeze on top. The naan was thin and dry, likely because they had to omit the butter (no vegetable based butter available to my surprise). And I hate to say it, but the chickpea masala was identical in taste to a frozen dish I buy from Trader Joe's. read more

We nixed the buffet because we wanted something made to order and to try other things. It didn't look all so appetizing but everyone at the restaurant seemed to really enjoy it. My colleague, Amanda, had never tried Indian food before, and I convinced her to try Spice Affair for lunch today. I do love Indian food, and have enjoyed it in several places around the world. I will say that this restaurant is my absolute favorite Indian in Pittsburgh. We were treated like queens. The food was amazing. We had the Pappadum with three chutneys, Salmon Tandoori, Chicken Tikka Masala (I asked for extra vegetables) and the garlic naan. Delicious! I do not consider myself a learned connoisseur of Indian food, despite one of my best friend's mother's spoiling me with amazing home-made dishes throughout my College years, but I will say that this place was amazing! It's a nicely situated space, right on Brilliant Avenue in Aspinwall. Street parking isn't difficult, and it's free after 5, I believe - make sure to check the meters because you don't want a ticket! If it's nice out, sit on the deck; ignore the trains that pass by as they are the price of your enjoyment and to be honest, aren't very frequent. We only had one go by, right in the beginning. The deck is nice, and it's fun to people-watch. Seriously, sit outside and enjoy quaint Aspinwall. The menu is intimidating has hell, but I bet that folks who know their Indian dishes would feel very comfortable with it. It's like 500 pages long. I still found bliss in it, though. Can't go wrong with some samosas, naan, and chicken tikka masala if you're not yet facile with the huge selection. Now, your waiters will probably tell you that their portions are reasonable. Don't believe them!! They are lying - the portions are Pittsburgh-sized and will bust your gut! Don't worry if you over-order like we did, though. We took home 3 boxes of that deliciousness! (All kidding aside, they don't try and upsell you or push you into things - they are super nice, and will definitely help you with your selections.) They do like their spice, so unless you are very experienced, don't go hot! I found everything to be super tasty at the mildest level of heat, but more sensitive eaters might want to have a taste of someone's food before committing. My kids did perfectly well at spice level 1. Their rice is great, as were all of our dishes - tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, aloo mattar, and chana paneer were awesome. The Samosas are enormous - there's no way a normal human could eat the two that come in one order. Well, maybe Kayser Soze could, but I'm pretty sure they said that Chuck Norris gave up after eating 1.5 because he was so stuffed. Don't eat both - you won't eat your dinner. Trust me. The naan was delicious - as one might expect. It had a nice mix of char and buttery flavor to it, and was wonderful to use in consuming the delicious choices as we made our way through the meal. We FINALLY have an Indian food restaurant in our neighborhood...yayyyyy! I have already visited four or five times since they opened last month (yeah, this might become a problem!), mostly for takeout. So far I've tried their chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, malai kafta, aloo matar, naan, and veggie samosas. I've been quite pleased with the food. Their sauces are really flavorful and creamy without being too rich or heavy. The chicken has always been perfectly tender in the meat dishes. And their veggie samosas may be the best I've ever had. Their naan is the one item that I think could use some improvement. I've always ordered the garlic naan, and some of the time it's tasted a little tough without much garlic flavor, almost like it wasn't fresh. Other times, the naan has been chewy, soft, fluffy, and packed with garlic flavor like good garlic naan should be. True to their name, they certainly include lots of flavor and spice in their dishes, although I have found their heat scale to be a little inconsistent (you can choose your desired spice level from 1-10). I tend to like things on the spicier side (not burn-your-tongue-off spicy, but enough to break me into a minor league sweat). Depending on the day, the heat levels seem to differ. I've had everything from a level 7 that barely tickled my tongue to a level 5 that had me reaching for the water several times during my meal. So until they get a little more consistent with their heat, I'd recommend going conservative on your spice level selection. Every time we've ordered takeout, our food has been ready within 20 minutes and the workers were very friendly when we came to pick it up. The food is also always packaged very thoughtfully, which is a nice touch (e.g., plastic wrap around the take out containers to avoid the dreaded soggy-bottom-of-the-bag-due-to-sauce-spillage). Most new restaurants have growing pains and need to work out the kinks at the beginning, so it bodes well that my experiences here have been positive right out of the gate. I must admit that this is still not my favorite Indian food in the 'Burgh (at least not yet), but it definitely holds its own. Considering that this is a short walk away from me, they will continue to see a lot of my hungry face in the future. I can't wait to try their lunch buffet. We had a great meal at Spice Affair this past weekend! Happened to be around Aspinwall and Indian food sounded like a great way to end a rainy day. The interior of the restaurant looks very warm and clean. The service is very friendly as well! After we ordered, a waitress brought over some chips with three accompaniments: onion chutney, coriander sauce, and a sweeter brown glaze sauce. It was a great appetizer and really tasty! We ended up getting the chicken pakora, keema naan, and the house biriyani. The pakora was crispy and delicious. The keema naan tasted very fresh and savory as well. The biriyani was delicious! The house biriyani had a mixture of chicken, lamb, and shrimp, along with vegetables with the rice. Along with the chutneys provided earlier, the meal was very filling. We ended up taking half of the naan and biriyani home since we filled up pretty quickly. I also got a rose lassi which was lightly sweetened and fragrant too. A great compliment to the savory meal. The food is often lukewarm and the quality of the meat is marginal. Our last round of takeout was sinewy chicken that we had to spit half of it out. The taste profiles are good but the dishes never feel like they are fresh. Many times the dishes taste like they have been reheated from days ago. I have had take out and eaten in and have had the same impression regardless of whether the food is eaten immediately or in home.The service is fine, but the place can feel creepy as it is often empty --they must do a lot of takeout. They have a large menu with so many options for chicken, shrimp, and veggie options. Everything is so fresh and fragrant, my mouth is watering as I write this review.
