This is a hidden gem. The customer service from Reggie was pretty welcoming and makes you want to believe the food is good before you try. The 4 stars are for the customer service. I got the fish greens and Mac and it was okay. Gives home cooking vibes. Catfish was okay but the chicken thighs were perfect worth going back. The waffle is like a carrot cake or spice cake type waffle and different. If you're close and don't want to cook but want a home cooked meal to order. This is the place to try.

We had the best brunch at Spice and Gravy! My husband and I were looking for a new restaurant to try and we stumbled upon this one! I got the biscuits and gravy and they were DIVINE. May I add, they have great portion sizes! My husband had their catfish and grits and in addition to enjoying his meal, he loved their homemade tartar sauce! The atmosphere was so warm and the staff made us feel so welcomed! We are already planning what we are going to order on our next visit! Haha!

This is a little secret Mom & Pop Restaurant in a strip mall. My sister and nieces had been before so we decided to go after church for brunch when I was in town. There were quite a few of us and I can't remember everything we ordered but I ordered Catfish, greens and Mac and cheese . Some ordered the same, French toast, Chicken (looked too dark and dry for me, but my bro in love polished it off) and Waffles and loaded Grits. Unfortunately, they missed my sister's "loaded" grits order and just brought grits. They then took them back, but unfortunately again forgot her. We had to remind them that she still didn't have her food and we were almost finished. The chef brought out her order and apologized and asked her if she wanted a side of greens for free, my sister accepted. Restaurant cute and quaint. Server and service kind and gracious. I would higher additional help as there was one up front and one in the back. They ran out of grits when I got to order. My mac n cheese was absolutely amazing. My fish was delicious, but although my greens were flavorful, they had too many stems for me. I also ordered a side of banana nut French toast and they were pretty good.

I'd seen reviews about this place so hubby and I popped into this spot on a Saturday afternoon. From what I'd read, it seemed like this place was an upscale eatery so we were somewhat surprised to see it located in a strip mall surrounded by a bunch of other eateries. The curb appeal left a lot to be desired but we did not want to judge a book by its cover so we decided to give it a try. We walked in around 1 PM on a Saturday and the place was empty. The place was clean with minimal decor and they had 2 TVs mounted showing football games (our visit was during TX-OU weekend). We walked up to the counter where we were greeted by Reggie. He was nice and told us how it worked. You place your order at the counter and then seat yourself. He also told us about the brunch they have on Sundays. I wanted to try the Shrimp and Grits but was told they were out of shrimp. I went with the FGG - Fish, Grits, and Greens while hubby ordered The OC - Orange Chicken and waffle. Our food came out pretty quickly but I was shocked to see our food served on paper plates. They were nice, elevated paper plates but paper plates nonetheless. We were also given plastic cutlery for our dine-in service. Definitely not what I was expecting for meals at this price point and at a dine-in restaurant. The presentation of the food was nice though. My food was just alright. I noticed there were no salt & pepper shakers on the tables and I could have used it. My grits were bland but I figured they expected the seasoning from the greens to flavor the grits. It didn't work for me. I later noticed that the website says their meals are "seasoned well with low sodium" so that could explain why there were no salt & pepper in sight. The sauce on my hubby's orange chicken had a nice flavor and he enjoyed his waffle. I guess the chef had gone out to buy more shrimp and Reggie brought us a sample of the shrimp & grits. We tried it and it had more of a chowder type of texture. I'm glad I chose the FGG over that because I would not have liked it. I wouldn't rush back to this place but I'm glad we gave it a try.

Decided to try out this new black owned business in Arlington after church and it had such a nice ambiance. The decor was very warm, and inviting with soft music in the background. I got french toast and bacon. The french toast was really good and had a nice cinnamon flavor. It was more on the wet side but the taste was solid. The bacon was crispy too. Everyone was friendly and you could tell the staff is still learning but the owner was great about rectifying the orders.I look forward to going back and trying out other items on the menu. If you haven't give them a try!

The food and service is absolutely amazing. The interior design is really nice. It brings the southern home feel. Love the warm colors and the feel. Ceiling, floors, pendant lights work really good together. I had the vegan plate and it was amazing and seasoned to perfection. Mushrooms, greens, and grits. I could have eaten ten of them. My children had the fish which they raved about. My wife had the chicken and cheese grits which she also loved the natural lemon pepper flavors. The mac& cheese was good it was done perfectly. They have fountain drinks and a delicious chocolate tea which you have to try and frozen margaritas.

On a whim we tried Spice and Gravy today for lunch. There weren't too many reviews but why not try it out, right? I am very happy that we did as the food was great. I had the chicken and waffle and that was some of the best fried chicken I have had in a long time. It was very juicy, crispy as can be, and perfectly seasoned. That waffle, it was no second fiddle on this plate. The cinnamon was a nice touch and the texture of the waffle was perfect for being able to stand up to the chicken being piled on top of it. It almost had a buckwheat earthiness to the taste but it wasn't that. This was no run of the mill waffle though, I can assure you that much. We dined in and the food wasn't rushed to get out to us but also we didn't feel like we had been waiting for it for an unreasonable amount of time. Long story short, we will be back!

This restaurant was absolutely extraordinary! Spice and Gravy was the perfect place to eat for me and my family, especially during brunch! I had the chicken and waffles and they were the BEST chicken and waffles I've ever had! Roscoe's has some real competition here in Arlington! The chicken was perfectly cooked and tender while the waffles had an amazing flavor and super fluffy! Meanwhile, my mom had the shrimp and grits, which she said was a " mouthwatering, delicious" dish! The shrimp had such a unique and tasty flavor and the grits were 10/10, leaving you to want more! As far as the ambience and atmosphere of the restaurant, all the customers had such a joyful spirit and wanted to stay there for so long mostly because of how welcoming and friendly the owners were! It's like going to big Sunday brunch with your family and friends! Lastly, the owners really take into consideration the safety of restaurant health with the plastic cutlery, paper plates, and plastic silverware because it's so important for customers to know the owners are taking thought into our health and safety while eating at their restaurant! I cannot wait to go back to Spice and Gravy and get a bucket of shrimp and grits to go! Highly recommended!

Do yourself a favor and visit this hidden gem! It's a small restaurant located in Arlington near Matlock & Harris St. They are very nice people and the food is very good, seasoned well, and the portion sizes are just right! We will definitely be going back!

If you are in the area this place is a must!! This was literally one of the best pieces of fish I have ever eaten. I am very picky about my greens because I make a mean batch myself. The greens here are legit!!! The keto tacos are so good. If your trying to watch the waste line give those a try. The owners are so great. They were so friendly and attentive. We have penciled this in to go to as a family once a month. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

This is a small operation, one person front of house, and a single chef. I'm keeping that in mind and applaud trying to make it happen on your own! This place is well hidden in a strip mall and has fairly limited hours. We went for Sunday brunch, and the interior is nice, the owners are really personable and welcoming. We over ordered just because we want to make a well-rounded decision. I ordered the gravy and biscuits and my husband the loaded grits, and we shared a French toast. The meals are served on flimsy paper plates, and though I totally get trying to speed things up for clean up, I wished they were a little more rigid. Small detail. The French toast, skip it. It was dry and forgettable. The biscuits and gravy.... as a gravy connoisseur, I give the thumbs up for a homemade gravy. It had great flavor and was absolutely loaded with sausage. The biscuits were not homemade and were probably microwaved from frozen. This took points from that dish, but again... small kitchen so I get it but still. Bummer. My husband liked the grits, but he had to eat the bacon first because it couldn't be mixed up. He also prefers them ultra cheesy because they don't have a lot of flavor, but he said the sausage and eggs helped. I felt like it came with enough cheese, but he said meh. We put most of what we ordered in a box and tried again, ordering Catfish, Greens, and Mac. The catfish was well seasoned and had a good cornmeal crust. The gouda mac was just ok, but we could taste the gouda. The greens were salty but flavorful. I wish more places would offer collard greens. They are so underrated. We would like to try their fried chicken. The food was good but not standout. I love that it's a small business and was quiet enough to have a conversation in there and if you're feeling southern food, this may be a good choice if you're in the area and within their open hours.

This place is so underrated! Always empty when we visit. Owner is so attentive and talks to us every time! The food is top notch, real, soul food. We've been looking for a place like this in our area and Spice and Gravy did not let us down. Food is always super fresh and so tasty. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is due to really wishing they served food with real utensils. It can be difficult to eat these meals with plastic silverware. Other than that, no complaints! Will be back again and again.

The cabbage had a little unexpected heat to it, but that's actually the same way my family cooks theirs, so I ended up really enjoying it. One thing that stood out to me was the staff. I'm not sure if the restaurant is always staffed this way, but I was genuinely impressed that all the front-line workers were men -- and every single one of them was courteous, respectful, patient, and mindful of each customer. While I enjoyed my meal, I watched them treat each person who walked in with the same positive energy and attentiveness. If you're in the area, go support this restaurant. In today's world it's comforting to know there are businesses verifying identity! Kudos!! Once seated at home I opened my container to hot fried catfish, tomatoes and okra, Mac n cheese and hot water cornbread. My first bite of everything was very good and seasoned to perfection. I got so full so quick that I wasn't able to finish but it made for perfect leftovers later that day. On to the desserts! My mom got a slice of pecan pie and I enjoyed the strawberry cake. Both were tasty and prepared perfectly! I will stop in again for fried pork chops when it's time for an off plan meal.

What happened today was unacceptable from the moment we walked in. The place was visibly dirty and completely unappetizing. The back area was mostly hidden behind what looked like a shower curtain, which did nothing to inspire confidence. There appeared to be only one man working, and he came out only a few times during the entire 45 minutes we waited. Even more concerning, there was a child who looked to be about eight or nine years old wearing latex gloves and repeatedly coming out to the front, apparently helping with restaurant tasks that no child should be doing. Despite having prepaid through Too Good To Go, no one acknowledged us for nearly 10 minutes. We stood in a hot dining room with almost no air conditioning while the child wandered in and out and the adult remained behind the curtain. More people arrived behind us, also with prepaid orders, until there were about 10 people waiting. We watched three other customers receive their food before us. One was a DoorDash driver, which made sense, and one woman had arrived before us. However, another woman with a very small order was served ahead of us even though she arrived after we did. When the man finally came out, we showed him our Too Good To Go order. He swiped the app, marking our order as picked up, then disappeared behind the curtain again and never returned with our food. After waiting 45 minutes in a sweltering dining room on a nearly 100-degree Texas day, we gave up. We left without the food we had already paid for. At that point, losing the cost of the meal was preferable to staying in that environment any longer. This was one of the worst pickup experiences I have ever had. Between the unsanitary conditions, the lack of staff, the presence of a child apparently performing restaurant tasks, the complete absence of customer service, and the fact that we never even received the order we had already paid for, I can say with complete confidence: We will never return.

I'm giving 4 stars because the service needs a little more organization and training. When we walked in, my daughter asked a petite young lady how long the wait would be, and unfortunately, her response came across as unprofessional with a bit of an attitude. Even while taking our order, some of her responses didn't reflect a team-oriented attitude. When one person looks good, the whole team looks good--and when one person doesn't, it reflects on everyone. I don't hold that against the young lady; in my opinion, she simply needs more training and guidance for her role. One of Ms. Nana's friends even got up in her church clothes to help sweep. She later went home, changed, came back, and immediately started helping--that's a friend! I also LOVE that some of the staff are part of a second-chance organization! I came here today a little after 5pm and did not get a greeting like everyone else did when I walked into the door. They were pretty busy with to go orders around this time. There is an entrance area where you order and pay for your food and a separate area for dining in. I ordered a catfish fillet with Mac n cheese and sweet potatoes and fried shrimp basket with fries and greens to go. I ordered at 5:15 and got my food at 5:45 and let me tell you, it was the longest wait of my life. I think the A/C must've been broken because it was hot in the waiting area and it didn't help that one of the front desk girls kept complaining about them still being open for another hour. There were a bunch of flies everywhere and the front area doesn't seem to be cleaned throughout the day. I also feel for the woman who puts the plates together because she's doing it by herself and was constantly asking the front desk girls to bag the orders. She stayed calm though and still greeted people as they were coming in. Now for the food. The shrimp basket was $25.99 and the catfish was $19.99. The shrimp was good, kids approved. The catfish was good too. All the food was made fresh to order so I can appreciate that for quality. Onto the sides. I think the French fries were accidentally season with sugar instead of salt. The greens were ok, just drenched with garlic. The Mac n cheese, ehhh. I was looking forward to the Mac n cheese but it wasn't as cheesy as I was expecting but tasted ok. The sweet potatoes were really good, probably my favorite side out of the four. The cornbread was moist and good. Overall, food was good but definitely overpriced. However, I do support small businesses but still think it's a bit overpriced based on portion size. They do require you pay for your food before you sit down if you are dining in. This may be because of too many incidents where people dine and dash. I do think that the lady behind the counter putting the plates together needs better help. No offense to the young girls they have working there but either train them or get someone who can actually do the job. If you are looking for true southern food, this ain't it. Texas food vs. southern food are 2 completely different things which I am learning the hard way now having lived here for a year.

The greens, corn nuggets, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and potato salad were all excellent. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was relaxing, the customer service at the front counter was spot on, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food we received. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because of an interaction that left a disappointing impression. The owner appeared to be making his way around the restaurant greeting guests. He stopped by our table, warmly greeted and spoke with my son, then moved on without ever acknowledging me or my wife. It may have been completely unintentional, but it left us feeling overlooked. As someone who serves in ministry and regularly recommends businesses to church members, friends, and professional contacts, I left thinking this could have become one of my go-to recommendations. Unfortunately, that interaction changed what could have been a great relationship with the restaurant. One thing I've learned in life is that you never know who's sitting at your table. A simple greeting can turn a customer into a loyal supporter. The food was excellent, and I sincerely wish this business continued success. I simply hope future guests receive the same level of hospitality as the quality of food being served.

It had plenty of flavor without being overly salty, which I definitely appreciated. The fries were good too and seasoned nicely with seasoning salt. The place itself was clean, and everything looked well kept. Customer service was okay--not bad at all, but nothing that really stood out either. Since I ordered to-go, I didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff. I will say the young man working the register could've been a little more welcoming and engaging. This would've also been a perfect opportunity to upsell me on a dessert, drink, or another menu item, especially since it was my first time there. Overall, though, the food was the star of the show. The chicken was flavorful, well-seasoned, and not too salty. I'd definitely come back and try some other items on the menu.

I placed my order about 17-18 minutes before closing. The staff wasn't particularly welcoming, but they were somewhat friendly, took my order, and answered my questions the best they could. One person didn't know the answer to something I asked, but another employee chimed in and helped, which I appreciated. I also understand that I came near the end of their day, so everyone may have simply been tired. I ordered the 2-piece catfish with mac & cheese and green beans, plus 3 wings on the side. I was told my food would take about 20-25 minutes. There were customers ahead of me and people who came in after me, so I actually gave them an extra five minutes before returning to pick up my order. Everything was hot when I received it, but strangely, the first piece of fish and the wings didn't taste freshly fried. They were hot, but the breading had lost that fresh crispness, which made me wonder if they had possibly been reheated or dropped back into the fryer. What made it even more noticeable was that my second piece of fish was MUCH better and tasted considerably fresher. Overall, the fish and chicken were also surprisingly bland. Once I got home, I ended up adding seasoning salt myself. However, I have to give credit where it's due: the green beans and cornbread were easily the highlights of the meal. The green beans had good flavor, and the cornbread was REALLY good. It was incredibly moist--almost cake-like moist--and definitely one of the things I enjoyed most. Unfortunately, the mac & cheese was the biggest disappointment. It was extremely dry, and even the noodles didn't look like the mac & cheese I had seen in photos before ordering. Maybe I received what was left toward the bottom of the pan because it was the end of the day, but either way, what I received really wasn't acceptable. I'm including a picture because it honestly speaks for itself. I completely understand that I ordered close to closing time, and I'm taking that into consideration. However, if the quality of the food can't be maintained until closing, I think there should be a cutoff for new orders--maybe 30 minutes beforehand. If a restaurant is open, still accepting orders, and charging full price, customers should receive the same quality of food they would receive earlier in the day. I spent around $30, so overall this was disappointing. I'm actually considering giving Juicy's another try in the middle of the day because I'd like to know whether this was simply an end-of-day experience or if this is representative of the food overall. Based on this first visit, though, I wasn't impressed.

Craving fried chicken and decided to head to Juicys Soul Food and learned they had closed....uggggh. Not to be deterred discovers Linda's Soul Food to go and called to inquire if they had fried chicken. They did. Yahoooo. Off we went. Upon arrival and as we entered this little gem I just admit I was worried. It was dead and appeared only one person was working. We learned they only had 4 meat offerings, fried chicken, fried pork chops, meatloaf and fried catfish. We were a bit disappointed when we learned they only had wings and legs for the fried chicken but moved on and placed an order. I had the fried chicken legs, collard greens, fried cabbage and Mac n cheese. She opted for the fried pork chops and Mac n cheese. The serving size are huge. 3 legs, 3 pork chops. Sides are plentiful. Are you ready? Absolutely delicious. The fried pork chops were the best we have ever had out. The Fried chicken was equally as good. HOT. JUICY. Soooo good. The Mac n cheese was better than Juicys. Cheesy and gooey goodness. I loved it. The collards were also better than Juicys....id argued one of the best I've ever had out. My mom would have been in heaven. Speaking of heaven...the Fried Cabbage is to die for... A major home run!

He offered me a sample of chicken tetrazzini that wasn't on the menu. He swore it was good, and it was! I ordered that with corn and greens, since the cabbage I originally requested would not be ready for another 15 minutes. Chicken tetrazzini was 9/10. Very good. The corn and greens were cooked with waaaaayyyyy too much pepper and should have been labeled as spicy corn and spicy greens. Also, the greens needed to be picked - I had too many big stems in my serving, and I'm not a fan of those. Would I go back when I'm in the area? Yes. Will I take advantage of them offering samples on everything? Absolutely! Reel back on that pepper, and they are in there. I recommend.
