Of course Rick is a mannequin. If you're seated at his table, he doesn't do much talking during the meal We both said hello to Rick and placed our order with our, ever smiling, Stephen S. He was wonderful throughout our visit ensuring we never lacked for anything. My wife and I ordered a fried chicken dinner and a vegetable plate. A few visits back we learned the little trick. Ordering the two separate plates we don't end up taking a lot of chicken home. The fired chicken dinner includes the white meat my wife likes and the dark meat I love plus unlimited veggies for the both of us. It's the perfect dinner for the two of us. Imagine going to a place where the service has been OK and suddenly is non-existent. We went in at about five in a Monday afternoon. There were literally more staff on site than customers. We were promptly seated and then forgotten. I could see three larger women congregated in the back talking. A couple times a young man walked past from clearing tables. Fifteen minutes in, we got up and left. Now we may never be back. How often can you ignore customers and survive? How often can wait staff miss out on tips? Restaurants live or die on reputation. Went today with some colleagues for lunch the staff was great and greeted us as warmly as they always do. was quickly seated. the food came out, and we quickly discovered that they had changed the type and quality of green beans that are served. Now you have to understand one of the reasons that I go to babes is that they had the best green beans at any of the local restaurants. The taste and texture of the new green beans are just so so. Excellent home style cooking with all you can eat veggies. Corn is to die for. Also mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. Start with a simple salad with killer sweet pickle dressing. Limited entree selection but can't go wrong with any of the options. Huge servings. Always enough for a doggie bag. Oh, and I didn't mention the perfect fluffy biscuits. Seconds in everything but entree. This location a bit darker than other locations. And some have a couple more entree choices available, but the big five were available (heavy on fried, but oh so good) - fried chicken (1/2 bird) smoked chicken, chicken strips, chicken fried steak and fried catfish. Babe's Chicken Dinner House is always good!!! My family and I have been visiting Babe's together for over 15 years and it has long been a favorite gathering spot for holidays or special occasions. The food is great, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere is unique - creating a memorable dining experience. At the Arlington location, the interior is decorated as if you are in the midst of a small southern town. The facades of businesses line the walls and fake chickens are placed on any available surfaces. The lighting is dim with cozy string lights and neon signs illuminating the corners of the restaurant. The food is all served family style with large entrees and bottomless sides & appetizers. For $20 you can choose between smoked chicken, fried chicken, fried catfish, chicken tenders, or chicken fried steak (I'm not ashamed to say I've tried them all over the years). Each entree is served on a large platter and is definitely enough for more than one meal! The appetizers include an iceberg lettuce salad with a simple vinaigrette and biscuits. It may be the nostalgia talking, but I believe their biscuits are the best in the world. After getting full on salad and biscuits alone, your meal arrives with family style green beans, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and gravy. The sides are delicious and you can ask for more of whatever you like! Their fried chicken is crunchy and juicy - and tastes amazing smothered in gravy. After you've eaten so much your top button on your pants bursts, you can take home the leftovers in plastic bags lined along the walls and pay up front on your way out. The servers used to dance the hokey pokey every hour - but I fear they've stopped doing that (at least at our most recent visit they didn't). Food is good. Do. Not split a meal between two people. the up charge for one side is 1/2 the dinner price so it's better to just pay for two dinners and have leftovers the next day. I would not go back to this location. It was very, very noisy inside and the music was way too loud so between the noise of the people talking and the volume of the music we couldn't hold a conversation so we just sat there ate and left. This is standard babes food. But the music was LOUD and I like to have a conversation with the people I'm with. Our first time trying this place and we where shocked at all the food you get. Not to mention that it is all you can eat. The service was good but not the best. The ambiance was that old western saloon type of atmosphere. I ordered fried chicken and my wife ordered the fried fish. It comes with the sides of mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, gma's corn. Side salad and buttermilk biscuits served with syrup or honey. If you finish that, you can ask for more, no additional price. We had a second helping of all the sides because they bring you plenty of chicken and fish to start. The only thing i didnt like was that they warm up the dessert. However, we had family in town and came here for an early dinner and knew they could accommodate a group with no problem. There's no reservations but the dining room is huge and easily handles big parties. Their service is five ! Every single person we had contact with was nice, friendly and provided excellent service. We had a combination of chicken tenders, fried chicken and one with a fish plate. However, those side dishes are just as good as the fried chicken. Everybody raved about the green beans, mashed potatoes and the corn. Then you have to mention the biscuits. Own if the best biscuits I can remember and even better if you drizzle honey on them. We were so disappointed in the manager's handling of our order. The girl who took our order told us that the kid's tenders meal included the mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, salad, and a roll. We picked up our order but no green beans or salad. We were told that it's not included anymore. We asked to speak to the manager. He asked who we spoke to; we had no idea. He said unfortunately that's the way it is. Do what? You mean we traveled clear across town on wrong information, and this is your response? I told my husband that a good manager would have tried to resolve the problem by offering us green beans and a salad...like the employee told us. He took the meals back and left. My aunt watches a YouTube channel where a guy is on a mission to find the best chicken fried steak in the south. He mentions Babe's so we went here while in town for a wedding. Babe's veggies all seemed canned, biscuits were buttery and soft, salad too sweet, and the chicken fried steak was a bit tasteless in my opinion (needed lots of gravy). I cannot recommend this restaurant. Service was excellent but the food ranged from Okay to terrible. The salad was nothing but lettuce marinating in dressing. Corn and beans were soggy and lukewarm. Chicken was okay but didn't have strong flavor (KFC and Popeyes have nothing to worry about). The only standouts were the biscuits and mashed potatoes. I wanted to find a good place for lunch and this was close. I read the reviews and the website, and for 20 bucks, you sure do get stuffed! First they brought out a salad with sweet vinaigrette. I'm not too much a vinaigrette person, but this was delicious! I ate the whole salad and the biscuit they brought as well. They had honey on the table so I put some honey on the biscuit and it was perfect. Light and fluffy and not crusty and hard. The Wife and I were in Dallas recently for a concert and I wanted a place to eat that was close to the venue. You can't get much closer than Babe's. The show was at the Arlington Music Hall, and Babe's is, well, right next door. Tossed the keys to the theater valet and didn't look back. Great courtyard seating when weather permits (it didn't this trip), and the interior is just kitchsy as hell, in a delightful way. Menu is, well, short. Our server explained we didn't really need to look at one because we had 2 choices.... chicken and catfish. Chicken was cooked in a few basic ways, fried, grilled, etc. and the catfish is of course, fried. The sides are what they are. So meal selection is as easy as it gets.... and yet, I couldn't decide, so I got fried chicken with a single order of catfish on the side. Start with an elegantly simple salad with a wonderful vinaigrette and iceberg lettuce. It's astounding sometimes how simple can be so much. Next came some remarkable biscuits and honey. Outstanding. Then the main stuff started hitting.... the chicken (4 pieces per order, basically half a chicken), great mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and fried sweet corn. For a southern boy, it was a little heaven on a table. The chicken is some of the best I've had. Cooked to perfection, with a well seasoned, crispy crust that hung on the meat for each bite, guaranteeing you meat and crust every time. The mashed potatoes were properly done, and the gravy the perfect consistency with a decent flavor... not at all bland and pasty like some places I've eaten. The green beans and corn would do any southern granny proud. Service was awesome, and in spite of sitting at a family style trestle table, we had plenty of privacy and enjoyed our meal immensely. Overall, it's not the cheapest chicken you're going to eat, but for the price we paid, I was more than happy with the taste/experience/value. Yes it's a bit pricey but it is all well worth for the pricey price because you will get what you are paying for. Sides weren't refilled till we had to ask another waitress as ours was away most the night. Drinks weren't refilled till all our food was gone and we were ready for checks. This a really delicious joint and a great location for local events going around in Arlington. Especially during the farmers market on Saturdays. The staff and servers are always kind and courteous. They make an effort to making sure customers have a great experience. Whether from taking orders, looking for a better table for your convenience, or preparing for a large gathering with friends and family. Even when dancing and singing to old country songs, even though it may come off as repetitive, the team keeps everyone lighthearted and ensures that customers are happy. The few downsides I can think of is that there isn't tap to pay but still has payment offerings with cash or card and also great discounts for veterans and other roles of service. They also unfortunately do not have outdoor lighting that comes into the building, but they make up for it by presenting an old nightlife atmosphere that's reminiscent to the Fort Worth stockyards. We were invited here for lunch by our Aunt who lives im Texas. It is located in a semi-residential area in a one story building but they do have several locations throughout Texas. When you walk in, they have a cute little courtyard with seats, benches, and stand up warmers. When we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a very kind employee who then sat us at our table. The inside was a little dark but good enough for eating. We had a larger party of 10 and we were seated at a round table against the wall to the side of the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is situated like the inside of a little town with a train running at the top with windows and doors looking out. There is a water tank near the entrance as well and sign decor in the town. The restrooms have barns style doors which match the restaurant style. The employees were on point and were so very friendly and welcoming. Our server gave many suggestions and also explained how we should order based on our group size. That was super helpful. The food came out family style and was way more than enough. We were able to try everything which was great. We ordered chicken tenders, fried chicken consisting on 3 pieces (thigh, breast, wing), and fried catfish. All main dishes were great and not too breaded which was good. The chicken was tender on thr inside, crunchy on the outside, and tasty. The fried catfish was my favorite. It was fried well and crispy on the outside, very delish. If you love catfish, you will love this! While we waited for our meals, our server brought out some salad which consisted of just lettuce which was already tossed in some kind of dressing and was a bit soggy. This was okay for me but not to my liking as I do not like soggy vegetables. Our server also brought out biscuits which was good. When out meals came out, it came with several side dishes: (corn, mashed potatoes, & green beans) All were pretty good and matched well with the chicken and catfish.
