Not only did he get the door for us so kindly, He treated my baby so kindly ! Kept her attention and even gave her a sticker to help distract her while I was looking around. Such a cute little shop with a really nice (I am assuming) owner. I did win a little Yelp give-away over the holidays for a gift box, so I popped in to pick it up and check out the store. There are lots of little unique items for the kitchen or home, like nice looking robes and Turkish-style tea and coffee cups. For me, I was there for the spices. They have a ton of interesting spices including lots of variations on salt, either smoked or mixed with other spices. The gift box I received included several salts, including a couple of hot ones, so I decided to pick up some Truff hot sauce (I have read about it a bunch of times, but was never where it was sold - spoiler alert, very good) and some cardamom so I could fake a version of Turkish coffee at home. I also got a rub which I have now used twice to air fry some chicken thighs, so win! Thanks Yelp for the give-away and for getting me to check out a new spot. read more

We even tried a really nice fig balsamic. What sold us was the truffle salt. I have used truffle salt in the past but this one had more oomph than what I've tried. My bf is particular about his salts so when he heard it was French sea salt, he was sold. We picked it up for $24 but a little goes a long way. We've already used it on our eggs for brunch. The owners, Tarkan & Marissa, are so friendly and sweet. Since they have relocated to old town tustin, this place is perfect for them. We've been a fan of Spice and Tulips since the opening of their original store, now we're even bigger fans of the newer, larger location in Tustin. The shop owner and his wife couldn't be nicer people if they tried, they welcome you into the store like its their home. My recommendation is to head directly to the spice shelf! Handmade spice combinations using fresh ingredients are a super-easy and brainless way to transform any meal into a flavorful powerhouse. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, I'm always searching new things to try them on. A great intro spice is the Grand Bazaar mix, use it on burgers, meat, pan-fried potatoes, etc...Many of the other spices include a pinch of red pepper to add a bit of heat to the flavor, but never overbearing or too hot....just right. It's hard to make it out of the store without being enticed by something else, this trip we stocked up on some thick, sweet, tangy balsamic vinegar from Italy. So good! After working up an appetite we ventured around the corner to a local brewpub for lunch. Great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We'll be back when the spices get low.....guaranteed! read more
