We have visited the Spice Cafe twice now. I'll write this separately, as we had lunch our first trip and tried dinner on our second. First experience was lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The service was great and the decor is cute. The owner was so nice and welcoming, and she certainly seemed genuine that she was glad to have us. I ordered Thai Tea--if you haven't tried it--do it!! It was delicious! A blend of southern sweet black tea and condensed milk--close your eyes, you'll love it :) We ordered Pad Thai ($2 extra for shrimp) and Red Curry w/ Chicken. It was a great serving, complete with rice and a crispy spring roll. The prices were just right for lunch and so was the serving. Wonderful experience. Second was dinner on Thursday evening. We ordered the same Pad Thai and he had Woon Sen. Delicious again and this time the serving was huge. However, my only gripe is that dinner is too expensive. You don't get rice with Pad Thai (while I got it at lunch) and they don't include the spring roll as they do at lunch. In addition, the prices are roughly $2-3 more at dinner, coupled with adding $2 for shrimp, it was way pricey for this cafe setting. All in all, the Spice Cafe is a dream come true. I am already a loyal follower, but I will limit myself to lunch visits as dinner is just too pricey. Lunch is tasty, quick, fresh, and priced very reasonably. read more

Myeh, it was just so-so. Probably won't be back. I had the Pad Thai with tofu. Not much flavor at all. I thought it would be more remarkable given the warning on the menu not to order it unless you are already familiar with Pad Thai. Weird. Lunch date had chicken in basil sauce which was definitely more flavorful however it was ordered spicy and yet it could have been fed to a 2 year old. No spice at all. Now maybe it's just me but If you call yourself "Spice Cafe" you've gotta bring the spice! Portions were pretty skimpy for the price. Service was fast and friendly though so at least it didn't waste our time or annoy me (haha). I've had the pad thai, fried rice with chicken, pad woon sen, and red curry. They now have beer, but the lunch specials up a dollar in price. The food isn't bad, but it's mediocre in my opinion. If I worked nearby I would probably eat here a few times per week, but otherwise there is no reason for me to go that. Thai Orchid down the street has much better food and a nicer dining environment. I would give this place two stars, but their service has been good, and they got beer, so up to 3. read more

This place is not very consistent but it is okay. They are very friendly and the price is right. If your food wasn't up to par they will make it right next time and this continues to be our local Thai favorite. The service is quick and convenient but I don't recommend eating in the restaurant, it is better for take out. read more

Spice Cafe's pad thai is so good!! I was bummed when thai basil in pinehurst was closed, and was skeptical about trying a new thai food place only to be disappointed, but it was amazing. Only wish they didn't close in the middle of the day from 3-5, and I wish they made their own hot sauce like thai basil. Either way, amazing!! Will definitely be back! I called and made a phone order and asked for two Tum yums with shrimp along with 2 other lunch specials which was chicken with red curry and another with chicken and Thai basil along with my Thai tea. I found it weird when she was asking me if I wanted fried rice or white rice for my Tom yum I repeated Tom yum she replied yes then I asked her for the price in which I heard $4.99 the size of a big soup so I thought she got it right. Husband came home and asked what all I had ordered because it came out to $40. I looked through our food to find out it wasn't Tum yum soups. So I called back and the lady was semi arguing with me and replied with she told me $10.99 after explaining to her that I said 2 soups finally she tells me I can return the food back and she'll give me my money back and soup. Husband said he's not driving 20 mins there and 20 mins back to get soups. Called again because I realized she didn't even give us the Thai tea and apparently she didn't charge us but on the recipe it doesn't show what she charged us for just the transaction amount. Needless to say she was not very professional. I am from California where the food is pretty darn good and have tried plenty of Thai food around the world. Their fried rice was not great nor was their food. I feel like you can get better Thai else were. If the food was great and this happened to us I'd still be back but the food isn't all what people hype the food to be about to the point where I won't be back. read more

We ate here once. While the other food might be good, their fried rice is something they just probably shouldn't even offer...that is unless you prefer undercooked grits to rice with your stir-fry. No flavor at all. +1 star because food aside the staff were polite and friendly. read more

Just had a wonderful experience at Spice Cafe in Southern Pines! Thai staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Went with recommendations of Tom Kah Shrimp Soup and Pad Kratiam (mixed vegetables). I would eat here EVERY day if I lived in Southern Pines! read more

the medium hot wasn't as spicy as i'd hoped. Its not the worst Thai, i'll go there again. the menu is small, and it is a tiny place.

Simple, clean tasting food. The dinner entrees are all 9.99 and the lunches are 6.99 which I find amusing and reasonable. I had their Ginger entree and absolutely loved it. It's fairly mild in spice as far as Thai food goes, but it does not detract from the flavor. Recommend it for an unpretentious, cheap and tasty night out. read more

Had lunch here on a Saturday at 12:30. I came here because Thai Orchid was closed. I was the only person in the place which should have been a sign to walk out. I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai and was presented a plate faster than expected and well under my expectations for an acceptable presentation. Sloppy noodles, a scoop of rice and a fast food quality spring roll. If you're just eating to stay alive, enjoy. I won't be back. read more

Spice Cafe was our first introduction to Thai. We love the curries and noodle dishes. The owner, Thim, is so sweet and her staff is always timely and effective. My wife and four year old love the yellow curry and I love the drunken noodles dish. When we order, the food arrives 7-8 mins later. The menu is reasonably priced and filled with lots of veggies. I like Pho (Vietnamese noodle bowl) and the closest place to get it is Fayetteville. On my first trip to the Spice Cafe, I asked if they could prepare Pho. The cook said that she fixes it for herself all the time. She made a bowl of Pho for me and now that is all I eat at the Spice Thai. Amazing food staff and price. A hidden gem in sopines! Been coming here for the last two years now and they never disappoint

I finally had the opportunity to take my husband to this little gem this past Saturday. The service was attentive but not overbearing, the food was better than any Thai we've had in the area (and we've tried them all) and the setting was very quaint. I do recommend that if you're not comfortable feeling the elements when the door opens that you not sit near the door, but that's kind of common sense. It certainly didn't affect the service or the quality of the food. We can't wait to go again! read more

Spice cafe has great authentic flavor, having been to Southeast Asia I know what Thai food should taste like and the wonderful ladies at spice cafe will make you what you are looking for. They also have fried tofu which is a wonderful appetizer and my kids love it. Not very good food. Ordered Medium spice and there was no spice on both entrees. The Red Curry was yellow and really sweet. The Panang curry was a weird consistency and did not taste good. Even the fried veggie egg rolls didn't taste good and I don't think I've ever had anything fried that didn't taste okay. We had turkey sandwiches instead and threw it in the trash. read more

This is the best and most authentic Thai food available in the Southern Pines/Pinehurst/Aberdeen area. Responsive management, super service, and terrific food at any heat level from mild to take the top of your head off. I noticed one other reviewer wasn't happy about the spices, but this is a place where you can always ask for what you want and receive it.
