I recently tried this restaurant and had a pretty average experience overall. The music was louder than I would've liked, which made it a bit difficult to fully relax and enjoy the atmosphere. The food was okay--not bad, but nothing that really stood out or wowed me. The wait staff was also just alright. They weren't rude, but they didn't go out of their way to make the experience memorable or exceed expectations. That said, I'd probably give it another shot and try something different on the menu to see if it changes my impression. Well wasn't sure what to expect. Reviews were decent but this restaurant had just been reinspected after having a bunch of discrepancies. I am glad we tried it. The inside is bright and they had Nepali music playing. They have a pool table a huge tv a full bar and those video arcade gambling slot looking machines. Our server was super nice. We got chicken biryani, butter chicken, chicken tikka and two orders of garlic naan and one order of cheese naan. The naan was thin and hot and really good. Everything was great. I would skip the chicken biryani next time and get something else. I loved the sauces. I loved the naan. I was really glad we went. They have Indian and Nepali food and it looks like a lot of things to try. I will be back. Maybe tomorrow. read more

My wife and I and our 10yr old son went for the first time this evening. It was fantastic. The service was great and everyone was super nice. Our son got the chicken wings and they even gave him fries on the house. He got the strawberry lassi as well. My wife had the chicken korma and I had the shrimp tandoori. Both were fantastic and flavorful. We both got them with medium heat which was great but if you dont like spicy order low spice. We also got the mixed naan bread basket which had 4 different types of naan in it. Wow they were all so good. The last thing we ordered was the chicken momos. I've been eating at Spice (or ordering takeout) since they first opened, and I've simply NEVER had a bad experience. Tonight, my wife and I went with three other couples and had a great time. It's so good to be able to laugh with others over great food! Since it was a Monday night, we had the place mostly to ourselves (there was one table with another couple nearby--I hope we were not too loud). From memory, our orders included Mutter Paneer, Butter Chicken, Chicken Coconut Curry, Chana Masala, Chicken Saag, a wide variety of Naan, and a few servings of Gulab Jamun to finish on a sweet note. My only regret is that we didn't pay attention to the specials board. We saw it on our way out. Had I seen it earlier, I would have ordered the Buffalo Momo. Right above that was Aloo Jeera (spelling?). Ordered it to go, and had some as soon as I got home. Had my wife not given me "the look," I would have finished the whole thing. So good! Our server was kind and engaging--she heard us talking about music and jumped right in. She then put on a great song from the artist we'd just been talking about. Before leaving, we had a great conversation with one of the owners, then he introduced is to one of the other owners. Both were very friendly, gracious, and kind. After reading the food inspection summary online today (Pennlive.com), unfortunately there's NO WAY we will eat at this restaurant anytime soon. There were just too many violations involving rodents and rodent droppings and bags of food that were gnawed through. We have eaten there twice and we had takeout once and we really liked that we found a local Indian restaurant whose food is delicious, and their food is delicious. But we just can't get past the unsafe serving/handling practices as well as improper food storage and lack of handwashing. I indicate lack of handwashing because the inspection noted that there was no soap at the sink for hand washing. And knives being put back dirty, and food surfaces not being cleaned properly. Or at all. A live rodent was found on a glue trap on a food storage shelf. I mean, come on. I do wish them well and hope that they can get their act together to be able to serve delicious, healthy, and cleanly prepared food. One or two very minor, easily correctable violations of an inspection is acceptable in my book as a patron, but any violations regarding rodents and droppings and filth is completely unacceptable! So thankful for these inspections and write ups! read more

I'm updating this to 5 stars. It is now my favorite restaurant in the city of Mechanicsburg. We have returned multiple times for dining in and for takeout. Their chicken Biriyani is my favorite dish. If you ask for a spice level of an "Indian 10" it will not disappoint and your lips will be tingling. However, the excellent flavor still permeates the heat. We have taken multiple people with us and everyone enjoys the food. Two thumbs up and I am now craving some ultra spicy Biriyani. read more

We came in for lunch one day and so glad we did! I travel in the area a lot for work, but a lot of our coworkers are picky, so we never get to go to anywhere but American food spots. It was a small group and this was thrown out there so of course I jumped on it. There weren't a lot of people there for a Monday at lunch, so service was great. We got seated immediately and didn't really wait on anything, our server was on it. There is tons of seating as well so even during busy times they're probably pretty good. I got the paneer masala, one of my standards, and loved the sauce. It was super rich and flavorful. My coworker got lamb biryani which was DELICIOUS. The lamb was cooked perfectly and it also had tons of flavor. The table also got butter chicken which is hard to do wrong, but they definitely do it right. We got a garlic naan too and they do not shy from the garlic! It was loaded and so good. Highly recommend, I'll definitely be back! read more

I really wanted to be able to give this place a five star based on the other reviews that I've read. My girlfriend and I went on a Friday night and had high hopes. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservations at 8pm, which were obviously not needed upon arrival, since there wasn't that many tables seated anymore, and there was plenty of open booths. We were sat right away, and given two glasses of water. And then the wait to began. 15 minutes went by and finally the young lady who sat us finally came back to us and apologized and said oh can I get you something to drink and we said can we just put in our order and get drinks? After she took our order, our drinks came out pretty quickly within only five minutes. At this point there was maybe three or four tables left that were still seated. During our wait, the music which adds to the atmosphere stopped playing. After 15 minutes I asked if someone could turn it back on as at least that would be a distraction from the long wait we were enduring. Our food finally arrived 45 minutes later. She ordered a vegetarian dish and I had the Chicken Tika misala. The food was outstanding and the seasoning and spice was absolutely perfect. It is only for this reason that I'm giving them a higher rating. My hopes are that they'll read this and step up their service game a lot more. People don't like to be kept waiting for their food. And if you are going to keep them waiting, give them something to snack on to keep them satisfied while they do have to wait. Downtown Mechanicsburg needs places like this but if it's going to take an extraordinary amount of time to get your food then it's not gonna last because people aren't going to want to wait. The food was out of this world good!! Very clean place and great service. This is now my new favorite.

Convenient off-street parking. We went at 7pm on a Sunday and was not busy at all. The food was excellent. My son got the chicken fried rice which was a generous portion that we were all able to share. It was very tasty, highly recommend. My other son got the mild butter chicken which was good but I think he will order medium in the future to have at least a little spice. I had the coconut chicken curry (medium spicy) which had the perfect level of spice for me - I would not be afraid to try hot based on the medium level of spice. My wife had the mango chicken curry (mild) which was also good. A lot of choices on the menu so it will be fun to come back and try something different as each item we tried was excellent. The naan was also good for dipping in the sauce and was given in generous portions. The entree portions are not huge but satisfying. If you have big appetites at your table I would recommend getting the fried rice in addition to the naan to share at the table with your entree. read more

I have been to this restaurant 2 times for eat in and once for take out. The food is the food is delicious but the service is horrible. Both times I ate in the service was very slow, but the 2nd time took the cake. The restaurant was not busy either time I was there but it took forever to get service. The 2nd time i was there, when we finally got our food they didn't bring any plates. It took over 20 minutes and asking 2 people for plates. I think they completely forgot one of our items until we questioned them and when it came out it was not what we ordered. They tried to tell me that the meat was cabbage. We cut it open and showed them and he said oh yeah not cabbage. We canceled the item and they took it off the bill. It is a shame the service sucks so bad because the food is great. read more

The hot chai tea was not hot at all, and didn't have much spice to it. The onion salad was a half of an onion sliced with spices on top! And a slice of lemon next to it! Very strange! Not a salad you could eat... just raw onion! I'm actually still laughing about it because it was so odd. I also tried the vegetable coconut curry and vegetable chow mein which were better! Interesting little place! Very clean, deceptively so based on outside which looked like a normal Philly type pub. We had carry out , bhindi, Kashmiri and garlic naan, spicy momos and chicken korma. First the good ; service was wonderful, very friendly and surprisingly fast. Very clean and the food was not oily or greasy. Good flavor and taste. Momos were spot on. Garlic naan was perfect. Now the bad...the bhindi was burnt and I think the pods themselves were old; very chewy and thin pieces and some stems in the curry. The chicken had huge lumps of skin and fat on the pieces; which on one hand means it's fresh and not just "factory food" but on the other hand, like the bhindi, shows a lack of care and attention. This place is below average. I highly recommend you save your money. The server was slow, inexperienced and inattentive. The manager or maybe he was the owner (?), stayed in the bar area and did nothing to help. It seemed to me, that his attitude was that he was doing me a favor letting me spend my money there. If you are lucky enough to sit in one of their old booths, you will get to experience the pleasure of the person behind you pressing on the seatback and nudging you forward every few seconds. Ok so we got this new restaurant in town, something really welcomed, especially since it adds to the variety of choices we have (serving East Indian fare). Thank you for that. They still have the previous businesses sign up however. Needs to be removed ASAP to draw people in with a new bigger sign, and not confuse them (as we were as we heard about the new place but wasn't sure where it was). Also, it's clean but they need to spruce it up a bit more (seems only to have been repainted possibly) to bring more of a tasteful East Indian stylish decor to our eyes. The calm music of that culture playing overhead helped however to set the mood. Due to the staff shortage, they had limited workers which made us wait longer to be seated, order, be served, etc. However, the one waiter we saw, was busting his hump to do his best. He did well, was friendly and as quick as he could possibly be. Also, our food was delicious ( although a little cool in temperature) They did a great job too in making everything not spicy hot but very mild as we requested (thank you!). If you like spicy food you will enjoy this place , just make sure you tell them how spicy I asked if what I was getting was very spicy and then I was asked how spicy I wanted it I am glad I asked I think I got medium which I would choose mild next time although I enjoyed the food, the service was a little slow seemed to be one person kind of as the main waitress for the whole place and also cleaning the tables ,I was hoping for a little more upgrade from the old restaurant it was but a little paint and decor didn't look much different the staff was friendly though so although it was slow I appreciate no one was rude ..I would definitely go again and it's a nice place to have a family night. We got the butter chicken in mild and it was definitely mild that my 2 years old toddler ate it and really liked it! The chicken tikka masala had really good sauce and we liked the lamb curry too. The disappointment was the naan because it was soft but we ordered to go so maybe that's why since it's encased in aluminum? Overall we were really happy with the food and definitely will go back! Hidden Gem. Excellent Friday night dinner. Wasn't busy inside but lots of take outs were occurring. Waiter was very knowledgeable and Nepali which added to the experience.
