WE have been here a couple times and the food is absolutely amazing!! It's our new favorite restaurant in the area by far!!

I actually didn't love Nalan. The servers were very friendly and attentive (they kept refilling the water pitcher which had nice lemon flavoring) but the food was a little lackluster. I normally always love Indian food but something about each dish was off. We got the Kodi vopidu (chicken stir fry) based on some prior Yelp reviews. It was ok but not super flavorful or impressive. Was not really a fan of the veggie korma--it was full of spices but not as creamy as I'm used to. The texture was almost grainy? The portions were a bit small as well for the price. My husband did get a lentil dish (not sure which one) which was the best out of the tree we ordered. Overall we were disappointed as Nalan had a very high Yelp rating (probably because of its nicer interior--cute wall with a word cloud of food) but the food itself was underwhelming. There are multiple Indian and Nepali restaurants on the east shore we liked better. read more

I like the food here, but it seems every time we go back the portion sizes get smaller and smaller for the same price.

Great place for some amazing up scale Indian food! It was clean and the place was full of people dining and coming in for carry out. My husband and I ordered our food with medium spice, and let me tell you, they don't mess around with the heat! We both tolerate spice well, however I might go mild next time, which is unusual for both of us. Really good food! read more

Visited this place twice and I have only great things to share! It was a small but bustling restaurant with great service even during closing time. The owner personally greeted everyone and took orders. He recommended a few dishes and took his time understanding all his customer's preferences. I really liked that -- not all local restaurants do that. I liked their Chicken Biryani -- Tasted good with large portions. Being one of the few Indian restaurants in the area, their prices were very reasonable. Parking spots were plenty and this restaurant is a great pit stop if you're passing by Harrisburg. read more

I don't do Indian cuisine very often so I'm thrilled that I chose a great restaurant when I did. We ordered takeout and it was ready exactly when promised. We ordered the Achari chicken tikka, Kodi vepudu, chicken tikka masala. Bullet naan, and garlic naan. Everything was delicious. If you like spicy this place nails it! Nalan has incredible Indian food! I've lived in Mechanicsburg for 4 years, and I can't believe I never knew about this restaurant! The staff is very kind and helpful with the menu. I'm vegertarian and they have a big veggie section on their menu! The interior doesn't look like the pictures on Yelp; it's been redesigned and has a cute, upscale-dinner-date vibe! A real find. Strong flavors are not for less resilient stomachs. When indicating the level of spice you prefer, I recommend you ask for your food to be "mild". Real, old-school Indian ((1) the scent of my dinner lingered on my sweater and jacket when I wore them again the following day (2) I experienced the flavor of my meal for some time after the meal had ended). The kitchen certainly has some significant culinary chops; the items your correspondent ordered were well prepared. "Appetizer" portions are generous and meal-sized. AMAZING!! We got a chicken biryani and a chicken tikka massala and we are so glad we only got 1 of each because the portion is big. We asked for it spicy and it was perfection. It also comes with a yoghurt sauce to tone it down and a peanut butter sauce to kick it up (although I didn't like the latter). The naan didn't disappoint either the service was good and fast. We were extremely pleased with our Father's Day dinner here. As most Indian restaurants are accustomed to having vegetarians, our server even went above and beyond and asked the chef to remove garlic from one of the dishes we orders due to a food aversion. We are very grateful for how kind and helpful our servers were and the recommendations they gave us. We ordered several dishes and were all mouthwatering delicious. So i guess it's been so long since I've had Indian food that I can say I've never had Indian food. I started with the lintel and coconut soup. Wonderful flavors and very nice. I asked for a recommendation for dinner. The girl said the Masters Chicken was flavorful, among other ideas. So i stuck with the chicken. I'm so glad I did. It's was wonderful, plentiful, and what a taste. I also ordered the garlic naan. I was nice and full. Everything was very good. Nice place. Good service. Highly recommend See pictures. read more

A much anticipated second visit to Nalan on 6/18, party of 7. Restaurant was completely empty when we arrived for our noon reservation. Having had a good experience before, we looked forward to the food - overall very tasty grub with some misses. For appetizers we had chicken 65 and prawn 65 - both were over cooked and too dry. The gobi manchurian was great and the chili paneer seemed hard and over cooked. For entrées, we had vegetarian biryani, chicken biryani, tandoori pomfret, butter chicken, and gunpowder shrimp. All dishes were decent, with the gunpowder shrimp being the standout. Small recommendation - the shrimp appetizer should have been cooked like this entree. The Limca, Fanta, and Mango lassis were enjoyed with all. The speed of food delivery which was an issue on visit # 1 seemed to be fixed and there was soap in the bathroom this time! read more

We had high hopes for Nalan, a bright and airy restaurant in a quirky retail strip mall straight out of the 1950s. The place knocked it out of the park. Since it was mom's first experience with Indian cuisine, we started with an excellent Masala dosa, a delightfully crispy-yet-pliable chickpea pancake wrapped around what might be described as a warm potato salad. The dish came with a soup, which we dunked the dosa into, and alternately ate on its own, as well as a smoky tomato chutney and a coconut chutney. We tore into the dosa with both hands. Next came a double order of garlic naan, basmati rice, and chicken tikka masala, which was less creamy than other versions I've had, but nonetheless delicious. It also had chunks of onion and bell pepper, whereas others I've had over the years have been more puréed, perhaps simmered longer. Portions were generous, and the prices were pretty reasonable. We shared a super yummy lime soda, and finished with gulab jamun, a fried dumpling floating in sweet syrup -- lighter and less rubbery than others I've had, with a thinner syrup. Perfect. The meal was an excellent value, and the service was gracious and prompt. Outdoor seating is an option. Sure, it's under a parking lot overhang. But sometimes, on a nice day, 'ya wanna be outside right? Right. :) During our visit, they accommodated a party of 16, as well as two other tables. Mom was thrilled and we both left stuffed. We had reserved outside seating on both the occasions. The host and servers were great. The food is awesome. The food at Nalan is excellent. On a recent visit our party of three shared excellent chili paneer, a spicy Brussels sprouts appetizer, lamb saag, dal makani, and baignan bharta. I tend to shy away from ordering biryani because it often comes out dry, but the hyberbadi biryani comes with two sauces, helping it stay moist (and spicy I might add.) My wife's chicken vindaloo was almost too spicy for her taste, but the flavor was good. Samosas were also good. Points deducted for an item missing from our takeout order. Lovely and delicious food in a casual environment. The samosa chat was great. It was sweet and sour, with a subtle warm spiciness and lots of different textures. The dosa with vegetable kuruma was also very good. The dosa was a little thicker than I was used to (but really tasty) and filled with cooked red onions. The kuruma was very flavorful and filled with lots of different vegetables. Will definitely come back here next time we're driving across Pennsylvania. read more
