Stopped here on a Sunday after finishing a 10 mile hike in Lake Itasca park (Spike's is just outside the south entrance). The menu is pretty much just burgers, but man, they were great burgers. Mine had a BBQ sauce mixed with horseradish, bacon, american cheese and pepper jack cheese. Spiking the sauce with horseradish was an inspired choice. They give out $1.50 off chips every time the Vikings score a TD, too. The Vikings scored within 5 minutes of us getting there. Bonus. There are no taps, but they had 20 - 30 canned and bottle beer options. Super friendly service and very family friendly. The tables around us and high tops at the bar had three generations of families watching the game. Great place. read more

Stopped in on the way to the cabin - got dialed in perfectly with one of the best pizzas I've ever had and I've had a lot! Fabulous marinara sauce, toppings to suit, homemade! Had an ice cold beer while I waited and visited with the very kind staff. Awesome! read more

Our first visit to Spike's was in 2018 and I'm happy to report it has only gotten better since. The burgers are generously-sized and delicious--whether you want a basic burger or something more exotic--and all of the baskets of starters/sides are great (we're partial to the onion rings and fried cauliflower). The beer selection is diverse, so there's something for everyone. We've had large groups and small, and they're always friendly to us. Spike's has become a must-stop destination for our family whenever we're up north. read more

More than what you'd expect hands down. The menu is fantastic for both simple eaters and those who want to try something creative. The lady cook is super friendly and will come out to ask the customers hows the food. She is an incredible cook. The lady bartender is also super friendly. She makes anyone feel welcomed and will hold good conversation with anyone. I used to love going out there because of these two ladies and the incredible food. My personal favorite is the Olive Burger. I forget what it's called but seriously the best burger around! With all of the great things to say about this place there's a major upset that pulls the rating down for me and those who have been with me, which also has stopped me from going back :( ..... The owner is NOT welcoming at all. He is very rude to certain customers. Maybe it's a female thing or a profiling thing but he definitely picks and chooses who he is friendly with. I am not entirely sure why each time that I have been there he has treated me with total disrespect. From the eye rolling when asking a simple question to the slapping the note pad down when I wasn't ready to order because my guests weren't at the table at the time which he knew I had guests as if im suppose to know what they want to order. It's ridiculous! He will walk up and say, ready? If you say no he sighs and says something sly like uh huh of course and huff away. I have tried to have nice conversations with him but he totally ignored or would walk away. Short snappy responses. Ask for a beer and he will respond is that all you're ordering in a snarky way. I have also witnessed him yelling at the cook. Couldn't hear what he was saying but that doesn't make for a nice environment. I know that it doesn't sound major but when someone makes you feel completely unwanted and throws off horrible vibes it makes it very hard to enjoy your time out. I have often thought maybe I should just be upfront and ask him yo what's your deal but I don't think it would do anything but maybe get me kicked out... So sad. Finally drive the 4.7 miles to check out Spikes!!! Was not disappointed. Great burgers, full bar and great service!!! I'm looking forward to when the snow is gone and the back porch open!!! Look forward to watching Kirsten's dream evolve!!! read more

Stopped by on our way back from Itaska State Park and caught them in the first couple days opening up for the season. Restaurant/bar has nice woodsy rustic decor and caters to the fishing crowd. We felt completely welcome though! Owner came over and visited with our table to check on us as it appeared our server was new. Burgers were tasty and perfectly cooked. I was a little skeptical when we pulled in to the parking lot but we didn't let that stop us, and thank goodness! Never judge a book by its cover definitely falls into play here! Inside is super clean and is much larger than it looks on the outside. The staff was very friendly and so were the locals. The food, there may not be many options on the menu however that just means they know what they are good at. The burgers were amazing, you must try the "oh mommy" burger, so good! They also know how to pour a good drink. read more
