5 Stars - A Perfect Anniversary Getaway!…read more My wife Tiffany and I stayed at the guest house at Cooper Ridge Vineyards over the 4th of July weekend for our anniversary, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The guest house was spotless, very reasonably priced, and gave us the complete run of the vineyard once the tasting room closed. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The property offers both 1- and 2-bedroom options and has gorgeous views overlooking the North Umpqua River and the vineyards perfect for morning coffee or evening wine on the patio. Steve and Paula, the owners, are wonderful, warm people who were incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home. Their wines are superb, especially the pomegranate sparkling wine, which quickly became our favorite. We also loved the complimentary charcuterie board! The guest house was well-equipped with a washer and dryer, iron, full refrigerator, coffee maker, and plenty of dishware -- everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Located in beautiful Douglas County wine country, it's conveniently just minutes away from many other wineries, making it an ideal base for exploring the Umpqua Valley. They have an extensive wine list; so my husband and I each did a tasting of 6 ($10), and then ordered the smoked salmon plate ($25). We then took a seat out on the terrace overlooking the beautiful winery and vineyard. Not long after we were seated, we were served our wine flights and salmon plate. Let me first say that the smoked salmon plate was beautifully presented and very delicious. The salmon was tender and moist, accompanied with cream cheese and a wonderful pepper jelly. Oh, so good. My wine flight was mostly whites. My favorite tastes were the sauvignon blanc (not a typical suave blanc, less acidic with a smooth finish); the chardonnay, and the rose. But I enjoyed all the wines I tasted. Also note that they have a small gift shop with some very cute items. I'm so very glad we came here. Great staff, great views, great food and great wine. The name is derived from the 2 middle names of wine makers Scott Kelly and Dyson Demara, of Hillcrest. The tasting room is located in a historic building down town Roseburg and is cozy in an industrial way. The wine varietals are so different from what you find up in the Willamette Valley, plus the prices are more reasonable. I was gifted from my friends, a bottle of the Fume Blanc, a tad bit sweet Sauv blanc and am excited to pair it with my next cheese board. I am kicking my self that I didn't pick up a bottle of GSM, a Southern Rhone blend that is readily available here and Walla Walla. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone wanting to step off the Pinot Noir train , if just for a weekend.

You have to go down the road a ways to find the gate in the fence to get in. But it's there. Trust me. Once you get there and meet Scott & Jennifer Henry, you'll want to stay a while. This is an outgoing couple that's passionate about their wines and about growing succulent house plants. They are very good at both. They have no vineyards of their own, but buy grapes from growers across Southern Oregon. They feel this arrangement allows them to get grapes from many different regional climates and greatly expands the variety they have to work with. And not tending a vineyard gives them more time to devote to wine making. Their results are impressive. For Rose, we took home a bottle of 2013 "Transparency", a white blend of 57% Muller Thurgau, 28% Muscat and 15% Riesling. Delightfully fruity, slightly sparkling, slightly sweet. For me we got the 2012 Syrah, actually a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache, a very interesting raspberry and spice experience. Great winery. While…read moreI haven't been lucky enough to visit the tasting room I have had to pleasure of enjoying wines over the years via the Ferraro family. Gerald Ferraro, Robert (the owner's) late brother, would have me sample some of their very easy drinking and easy pairing Pinot Noir and various others over the years. He wasn't the biggest wine drinker so I was always happy to taste and partake. The pinot noir is light and earthy with some fun notes of jam... Making it great for the holidays and holiday dishes among a plethora of others. I'm very grateful for being able to sample quite a bit and hope to get the tasting room in the near future. I know some select restaurants and shops carry their wine as well. They have great deals on cases online for vintage Pinot Noir and Viognier (my favorite varietal), which I'll be purchasing this year for holiday gifts for friends, family and myself. Cheers!
