Abacela Winery, Winston, OR - July 28, 2025 We arrived at about 1:30 pm on a Monday. They have indoor and covered outdoor seating. We had our puppy with us, so we sat at the covered patio area. Amy was our server. We hit it off right away. She took great care of us letting us share a custom tasting that included a 2021 Viognier, 2023 Grenache Rose, and a 2022 Albariño. We loved them all. We ordered a chilled bottle of Albariño to enjoy there. We ended up buying a couple bottles of the Albariño and one bottle each of their 2023 and 2024 Rose. We later learned that blending the two vintages of Rose (the 2024 has a touch more residual sugar) yielded an even better wine than either of the two vintages alone! Went on an early Sunday afternoon and there were about 8 people there already and then got busy about 30 minutes after we got seated. A nice place to relax, visit and enjoy some beautiful views of the vineyard. There is inside and outside seating. The wine flight tastings are tasty and the expalantion of each wine was simple yet thorough allowing an individual not familiar with wine tasting to understand what the wine maker is intending the taste to reflect. A small selection of charcuterie is available. Service is welcoming but can see potential where service could be a little slow when they get a plethora of guests. Visiting Abacela Winery is a lovely way to spend a few hours. The winery has a great view of some of the vineyard. There is an indoor wine tasting area, bar and seating area, as well as, a lovely outdoor seating area next to the vines growing. We chose the Signature Flight for $20 to get an idea of the wines they have. They brought out another taste to start-a 2001 Merlot so we could compare to the younger 2009 Merlot. The Signature Flight has 5 samples of their wines, including two of their Tempranillos. The owners chose this area because the climate and soil would be perfect for the Spanish Tempranillo grapes. It ripens several weeks earlier than other grapes which is perfect for the shorter growing season in this area of Oregon. We were brought two of their ports to try, as well. A 2017 Vintage Port and a N/V 10-year Tawny Port. The Tawny Port was delicious. I would recommend Abacela Winery. This is a beautiful winery and a lovely place to enjoy wine and foods. The pours are small, as mentioned in other reviews, but the extra samples made me feel the price was worth the Flight. Our server was excellent and knowledgeable about the wines. Beautiful vineyard with some good wines! Joe started our tasting out with a "bonus pour" of the rosé that was just bottled, We were also able to try two of their ports at the end of the tasting. The 10 year tawny port was our favorite. The signature flight has 5 wines for $20, the wines were good, pour could have probably been a little bigger but some wineries do smaller pours. We decided to buy 3 bottles since 1 tasting fee is waved if you buy 3 bottles, we asked for the 10 year tawny port, Tannat and merlot, our total was $150. It wasn't till I arrived back to my home state and realized we didn't get a Merlot, instead we were got a Malbec. my fault my not checking till I was making sure the bottles made it safely in my checked bag. I know I said Merlot to Joe because I had asked to try it before we got a bottle and Joe had said they don't allow him to open anymore Merlot because they don't have a lot left but insisted it was good. I don't know if he mistakenly grabbed the wrong bottle or got confused after walking away to get the wine. He didn't give us a receipt so I don't know what we were charged for, just know the total was $150 Overall a good winery just very disappointed we didn't get the bottle we thought we were taking home and paid for something we didn't want. read more

We visited Abacela Winery on a sunny late March weekday. Wonderful experience. SERVICE: 5.0. The woman who served us was very knowledgeable about the wines and the region, and provided prompt service with a smile. WINE: 4.5. We did a wine flight, and enjoyed the wines. Bottle purchases were a good value. The flight consisted mainly of Iberian varietals, including one from Portugal. AMBIANCE: 5.0. The service was terrible. The server came over one time the whole time we were there. We bought a bottle of wine that he poured our first glass of. But we had to pour our own after that. He did not ask if we were wine club members. Never said thank you after we paid. We got up to leave and never said a word. There was another server and only 3 other tables so, it was not that busy. This is our favorite winery in the Roseburg area. They have a fantastic selection of white and red wines, nice charcuterie plates, and they are always friendly and knowledgeable. Abacela is a solid winery. The scenery and landscape is very pretty! They have a wide variety of wines and specialize in Spanish wines. The reds were good and the whites are different. I personally didn't love the whites but the people i was with likes the reds. It wasn't our favorite place but not bad either. Staff were very friendly and nice. However, they could have a bit more knowledge. Our staff member was reading the bottle on everything. Just a little more training might be good. We've been to Abacela three times, twice for wine tasting in their small tasting room and once as guests of friends for a raucous good time event held outdoors. (Blazing hot that day, leading to increased wine consumption.) Not to mention that we've been happy consumers of Abacela wine for about the past decade, ever since we discovered their bottlings of Spanish varietals that are from estate grown grapes. My husband is a particular fan of Abacela's Temperanillo and Albarino. But our affection for Abacela wine also extends to their non Spanish varietals, in particular the wonderful Syrah and Dolcetto. Not to mention the Abacela Vintner's Blend, a heckuva good deal field blend of a dozen or better varietals offered at a "school night wine" price. All of their wines are very food friendly, which works out perfectly for us as our favorite way to drink wine is paired with food. Abacela's owners have previous career backgrounds as medical / science professionals. Medicine is a blend of art and science and so is wine making. Perhaps that focus contributes to such great wines coming out of Abacela and also to what is arguably the best of winery web sites for that wine growing region. Highly recommend that before you make your first visit to Abacela that you spend a few minutes on their web site. You'll so enjoy the ability to use what you've learned there as you taste the wonderful wines. If there has been a hiccup at Abacela to date, it is that the tasting room set up, as charmingly intimate as it is - read small - hasn't kept up with the growth and "big dog" status of the winery. That is all about to change when Abacela opens their Wine and Vine Center at the middle of this month - Saturday the 14th if all goes according to plan. You'll find details about that grand opening event - where else? - on the Abacela web site. We're hoping we can fit in a short visit to Abacela in July or August to see the new Wine and Vine center and tasting set up. Abacela was my introduction to Albariño, and now it's one of my favorites, a crisp, lively white wine. We drove up to this winery with high hopes, it was a beautiful location with beautiful views. The woman that seated us was kind and charming, and the wine and food that we had during our tasting was very good. However, I have never encountered a server as rude and dismissive as Joe. If you come prepared to be treated as an inconvenient child, and to be served small pours and dishes with no gluten free and almost no vegetarian options, then this is the place for you. So 5 stars minus one for the dietary options and minus 2 for Joes abhorrent service. read more

Absolutely fantastic. We spent hours at Wildlife Safari (just a few minutes away) and ended the outing with Pizza Friday. They have a selection of 3 different pizzas and dessert to mix and match with their fabulous wines. We sat outside in the back with a view of the vineyard. A cooling wind blew over the fields and made the 90° day doable (thanks to the umbrellas keeping off the sun). After a meal we could not say no to joining one of the wine clubs. One of my favorite wine tasting experiences. First, the space is beautiful. There's a lovely circular bar/counter in the center where you can interact with the staff as you sample their wines. It's quite a large space so you can sit off to the side on their couches or even outside. The tasting room sits above the vineyard so it's one of the prettier spots in the Umpqua Valley. They have a set wine-tasting menu but at least when we went they were extremely generous and let us and the other customers sample a few of their other wines. All the attendants were very knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up buying a few bottles of wine at the end. read more

Giving 5 stars, since this was one of my favorite wineries in this area. Wineries are far apart in the Umpqua Valley, so choose wisely which ones you visit. I love this winery, it's a great road stop when driving up i-5. I've been there in great weather, and I've been there in horrible weather and it has still been beautiful and a great experience. They allow dogs on the outside property, so thats fun to roam the grounds or get a glass of wine and a cheese plate and grab a table outside and enjoy the weather & view. Or, you can just grab a glass of wine and curl up by the fireplace. It is a very great atmosphere and their staff is really friendly. And, they have hands down the best Malbec's and Tempranillo's in Oregon. I really love their bold spanish wines, it is probably one of my favorite wineries in Oregon. read more
