I love spirit airline. The seats are leather. The plane was nice and new. Our flight was delayed 3 hours but considering I really didn't want to fly out at 6:30am I was super happy about that. they let us know ahead of time. Gave us 12$ for food and a 30$ flight credit. I usually like flying Spirit. But today I ran into some new employees that mistreated my wife and I. They were Araceli, Renesha and Stephanie. These lovely pieces of work gave us such a hard time over our carry-ons. I swear they seemed to enjoy trying to get us to pay for extra luggage. I've never seen anything quite like it. They were rude, disrespectful and completely unprofessional. I believe Spirit Airline would be better off, without these ladies in their employ. Renesha asked my if my last name was "Mexican" and I replied "I'm third generation American and I served honorably in the military, and to my best I do believe the roots of my surname can be traced back to Mexico and then further to Spain" She sneered derisively and announced to all around that we would have to pay $99 for our carry-on. Stephanie smile, so big, as to imply the charge was making her day! I asked Stephanie "why does charging people extra money make you so happy?" She chortled and said back "I don't know, it's just funny" Funny? Charging people $99 was funny to Stephanie, and at this point as if to help Stephanie make her point. Araceli, also began to laugh. Apparently I was not in on the joke. Also my bags were not full. And FAA approved carryons so I consolidated and this just made these girls livid. They insisted we had to pay that our bags were too big. Araceli asked me to put my bag in the carryon bin. It fit, she gasped, and then my wife was told to put her purse in the same carryon measuring bin. She did and her purse also fit. Araceli asked me to put my bag in again, but I just started to board and Ranesha begrudgingly scanned my boarding passes. Defeated. But I'm not done, I'm going to complain to Spirit Customer Service and the FAA about these children. We flew on Spirit flight 1635 out of gate C11 in the Reno airport at 10:40 am. Do not ever EVER book a trip with Spirit Airlines!!!! Turns out, my kids could have told me (must be well known in social media crowds). I'm a gen-X sucka! Cheap flight to Las Vegas (from Reno). Ok I'll pay $100 for a bag. That cheap. $280 for 2 people round trip! Ok, no assigned seat or internet. It's a 1 hour flight. God forbid you decide to change your trip to see Def Leppard! ($144 change fee). Ok, we're up to $424 for 2 people. (Should have booked with Alaska Airlines). Need to change return flight now. I thought we'd take an evening flight home to enjoy the day, but kid values school attendance and first day of lacrosse practice). I try to change return flight (if you just book it, it's $76 each = $152) but online it says $280.00. After trying all their online chat bots & such, I try to call to understand the fare difference. Forced to download WhatsApp in order to call. Did it. Signed up. Called. Waited 50 minutes. Dude could not help. I asked for supervisor. She kept giving me different info every time I asked. Basically, I'm screwed. No supervisor above her. She offered to charge me $27 per passenger for talking to an agent!!!!!! Apparently I was charged change fee $86 for the first change. $98 for this one, if I choose. What if I was slightly less techy than I am now? This company is predatory and a rip off. $704 for a round trip for 2, if I paid their fluctuating fees....plus another $50 to ask a human why!!!!???? Anyone know if I can join a class action? Or start one? Advice! I will not fly on this airline. I will drive to Las Vegas instead. Do not book a ticket with Spirit Airlines! No consistency or accountability. Actually I can't say that I really had a problem with the flights particularly but I am only used spirit for short flights. The biggest problem is their booking system online. It is terrible, frustrating and misleading. Very difficult to navigate. You better be tech savvy if you're going to make reservations online with them. It is the worst of the worst. I have traveled all over the world with different airlines and never had the problems booking that I've had on their site. Then it doesn't let you screenshot certain important. And it seems like that is on purpose so you cannot prove you saw the information on their site when you run into problems. I just think it's bad business. Why does it take 30 mins to board an aircraft? Took a flight the other day and there was a line of people boarding even 30 mins after boarding started. It takes 5 seconds to scan a boarding pass. Even if you have a full plane it should never take longer than 20 mins. Added a star because I've always arrived safely. read more

Spirit is beyond a "low cost" provider. They're also very poor communicator & unfair to all. Website says any luggage/bag costs money. Rather than pay for 2 roller bags to put in the overhead, we took one 41lb. suitcase & checked it round trip on our itinerary for $120. Boarding our flights many, many people had not only overhead compartment bags but large backpacks that they carried on for free. That's just one issue with Spirit. Many others but all I can say is DO NOT fly the banana. read more

Had a less than pleasant experience with this airline. It was delayed, and when I asked if I could have a seat on a flight that was leaving earlier (that had open seats per the flight attendant taking tickets) I was told it was closed and I could not board that flight. She wasn't polite in expressing this information either. This is the 2nd and last time I'll use this airline as the first experience was nearly identical. Where can I start? Oh Yeah! Let's start when you book a flight. Spirit will give you a destination without letting you know that you are going to have 15hr lay over going to your destination & a 18hr lay over coming back from your destination before booking your flight. After I had booked the flight that's when I realize that the flight was going to be a 2 day flight round trip. 2 days to get there & 2 days to get home. It did not show this until after the flight was paid for!! Now when I tried to cancel because who wants to have a lay over for that long? Customer service told me Spirit needs a 7 day advance to cancel in order to get the full refund (money) back. Well what about the people who have to fly on an emergency who try to get a flight out as soon as possible? This was the same day I booked the flight leaving in 2 days. Customer service told me they will not honor the refund of the money because of the 7 day policy & that a credit will be given, but a charge of $91.00 will apply to cancel the flight. This is not fair to the customers who has to fly out as soon as possible especially if there is an emergency & is trying to get to there live ones. Again who wants to have a lay over that long? Spirit should have a better policy on cancellation. 2nd let's talk about the luggage. The communication between customer services, Gate departure where you get on the plane & the website needs to be on the same page with prices. Customer service tried to charge me $258.00 round trip for a carry on. Website charges $64.00 to $69.00 for a carry on & that's not including your connecting flight to the other plane so you have to pay twice. When you are at the gate for departure you are being charged $99.00 for a carry on. I know I paid the $99.00. A standard backpack should not be the only carry on that should be allowed for free. You should be allowed a small suitcase that is of an equal size to carry on & not be charged. I know southwest, American & United airlines allow bigger size than a standard backpack as a carry on. These airlines only charge $50 to check in a bigger suitcase & charge nothing for a carry on. This guy who was just trying to to get home & was told just like me from customer service that if your bag fits the measurement requirement you are allowed to carry it on & you will not be charged! I watched this guy put on 5 more layers of clothing so he can make his flight because he couldn't afford what you guys charge as a carry on. Spirit charges one thing for a flight & then charges hidden fee's that goes along with the flight. I'm surprised Spirit doesn't charge for breathing air or wearing a seat belt as you're flying. This was my first time flying Spirit & The communication is horrible & not very helpful. Once you book your flight they keep you locked in with hidden fees so you don't cancel. I would have never took this flight if I would have known about the lay over & that it was going to take me 2 days to get there. DID NOT KNOW & DID NOT SHOW until after the flight was booked. Then to book a flight that is subject to change at anytime? That is for people who is on standby not for people who actually pay for a seat. Spirit cancel a lot of there flights & expect people to be ok with it! I'm sorry I do not recommend this airline to fly & I do not think I will fly Spirit again after the experience i had for a first time flyer. For starters, the employees (afternoon-evening crew) should be at work. 2 days in a row now, not a single clerk at the gate/ticket counter in sight. I didn't check in through Spirit online so I had to pay an additional $100 to have my flight changed even though I was still very much on time for my original flight and there were still available seats. Never ever again! I used Flighthub to get what I thought was a well priced round trip tix to Vegas. Spirit app would not check me in. Coming home it took more than an hour to check luggage, the female employee directing traffic into 4 different lines was incredibly rude. When I asked her a legitimate question expressing my confusion about which line I need to be in, she actually muttered something awful in Spanish, loud enough so that everyone could hear. I spent $30 more per bag due to the app not working. So for $161 leg home I spent $230 which was the price for a better and cleaner airline. They were an hour late boarding us. No explanations given. At 5:30, 5 min before our flight, they changed our gate from end of C to the end of B. They boarded us and left us sitting on the plane for another half an hour with again no communication. Finally they said this airplane was experiencing an issue with a heat sensor on one of the wings. First we'd have to wait for it to get dark to fly as the sensor would cool down then we were to wait while they found another plane. Nothing cools down in Vegas after your thermometer says 113 in the shade. If they could find a plane it would happen in the next hour. I waited then booked a flight on SW and made it home safely exhausted. Spirit was epically disappointing. Never ever again. read more

Booked a round trip flight for January back in November. Was confused with the check in message sent the day before my trip. So I called and spoke with an agent. He shared that everything was ok. Received a check in message again to return home.. urgggg. Stated depart time from first airport 12:15pm, second airport to return home 12:15pm. I called and spoke to a second agent . Only because I had to give it one star did they barely rate that. I had a flight from Reno to Las Vegas Las Vegas straight to Atlanta. When I got to Las Vegas I found out that my flight to Atlanta had been canceled and could not be rebooked until the next day. I asked about a hotel stay and they said that they would not provide it. I explained that because of unforeseen circumstances they have canceled my flight and that they owe me at least one hotel stay. They re-booked my flight the next day from Las Vegas to Detroit - Detroit to Atlanta. I had a four hour layover in Detroit. So when I got to the airport in Las Vegas they said that my flight had been delayed again. When I asked when would they be able to let me know how long it would be delayed for, there answer is "I don't know." Well I asked if they could book me on a different carrier they said no. I said well how late is the flight going to be delayed because I had a four hour layover in Detroit. They said they didn't know. So if I went to the gate. Thankfully the plane was delayed for two hours and I was able to get to Detroit giving me 1/2 hour to get to my next flight. Thankfully that was not delayed. Their excuses are lame. They're sitting there telling me that it's due to weather and when I look at the map there was no weather from where this supposed plane was supposed to come to. I guess there's only one plate in spirit airlines fleet that can fly when another one is delayed. On the return flight I was booked from Atlanta to Las Vegas where I would have a five hour layover. The flight from Atlanta to Las Vegas was excellent. No delays. I'm thinking to myself OK maybe I was wrong. Nope, I was right. My five hour layover in Las Vegas turned into a seven hour layover because again the flight from Las Vegas to Reno was delayed. Again they couldn't tell me how late it was delayed, and what their excuse was this time. I could've driven from Las Vegas to Reno in that amount of time. So all in all I will give this airline the thumbs down. Don't do it! They don't reimburse you and you practically have to demand for some compensation.
